Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday embarked on an eight-day diplomatic tour to five countries across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The visit aims to strengthen ties with the Global South and enhance cooperation in trade, energy, technology, and multilateral affairs. From July 2 to July 9, PM Modi will visit Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata law college primary rape accused, Monojit Mishra, is once again at the centre of a storm as multiple FIRs have been filed against him at several police stations in Kolkata, including Kasba, Anandapur, Gariahat, and Kalighat. The charges range from molestation and outraging the modesty of women to physical assault and issuing death threats.
According to police records, Mishra’s alleged criminal conduct dates back to 2013, when he reportedly attacked a colleague, leaving them seriously injured. Former friend Titas Manna told India Today that the same year, Mishra was also accused of stabbing another man and subsequently went into hiding until 2016. Despite reappearing that year, his alleged pattern of violence and intimidation has reportedly continued.

00:00:30This is big news which is coming in from the Quart summit.
00:00:33A joint statement now coming out. Big diplomatic win for India.
00:00:37Quart leaders together have now condemned the Pehelgaon terror attack.
00:00:41Bring Pehelgaon butchers to justice. Punish terrorism and all those who financed terrorism.
00:00:50A sure cooperation to end cross-border terrorism.
00:00:53My colleague Rohit Sharma is now joining me on the story.
00:00:56Rohit, this is big news and actually good news for India coming in.
00:01:00Our external affairs minister S.J. Shankar has spoken at the Quart summit,
00:01:05very clearly telling the world that terrorism is something that needs to be fought unitedly.
00:01:10Quart leaders also say that time is right to punish the financers, the backers of terrorism.
00:01:16Yes, A sure. I think, you know, it is a very important statement.
00:01:22And, you know, I'd remind everybody that he started his visit in New York by unveiling an exhibition about terrorism.
00:01:29And then when he came down to Washington, D.C. today, in his opening remarks, he talked about terrorism.
00:01:35And then to get all the Quart leaders to unequivocally condemn the Pehelgaon attack.
00:01:41I think it's a big diplomatic win for India.
00:01:43Not only does it, you know, talk about enhancing the commitment to counter-terrorism cooperation,
00:01:50it also condemns cross-border terrorism.
00:01:53And that's the statement.
00:01:54And we all know where that, you know, those terrorists basically come from.
00:01:57So I think it's a very, very big diplomatic win.
00:02:00And a lot of, you know, eyes were watching this summit.
00:02:04You know, there's obviously the concern about, you know,
00:02:06is Trump administration going to invest as much as the Biden administration did, you know, during their time.
00:02:12But I think if you read the entire joint statement, I think there is renewed interest in Quart.
00:02:17And obviously, you know, making Indian side and Jai Shankar making sure that these attacks are A, included in the joint statement,
00:02:27and then also condemned in actually the way India would have wanted to, is a big win.
00:02:34Right. Thank you, Rohit.
00:02:35My colleague joining me from Washington, D.C.,
00:02:37we are now seeing a big statement coming in from the Quart summit.
00:02:40Unitedly, the world is now saying that the time is right to make sure that all those people who back terrorism, they are punished.
00:02:48It's the external affairs minister, S.J. Shankar,
00:02:50who reiterated India's right to defend itself against terrorism at the Quart summit.
00:02:55A day after Pakistani army chief tried to push fake agenda on terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,
00:03:00it was external affairs minister who issued a stern warning to Pakistan,
00:03:04saying India reserves every right to defend its people against terrorism.
00:03:08Speaking in Washington, D.C., S.J. Shankar said India will exercise the right,
00:03:13asserting that the world will display zero tolerance towards terrorism.
00:03:17With his counterparts from the United States of America, Australia and Japan listening,
00:03:22S.J. Shankar also said India expects its Quart partners to understand and appreciate its position in dealing with terrorism.
00:03:28In fact, Raksha Mantri also spoke to U.S. Defence Minister on a phone call,
00:03:34during which Rajnath Singh appreciated the United States' unwavering support to India and its fight against terrorism
00:03:39and held talks on deepening defence ties between both the nations.
00:03:43A word about terrorism in the light of our recent experience.
00:03:51The world must display zero tolerance.
00:03:55Victims and perpetrators must never be acquitted.
00:03:59And India has every right to defend its people against terrorism,
00:04:03and we will exercise that right.
00:04:06We expect our Quart partners to understand and appreciate that.
00:04:09India plans to host the next Quart Summit.
00:04:14We have some proposals on how to make that productive.
00:04:17I am sure so do our partners.
00:04:20We will discuss and I am sure we will agree.
00:04:22Once again, I thank Secretary Rubio for hosting us today,
00:04:26and I look forward to our discussions.
00:04:28Now, if you remember, it was the Pakistani army chief during an event in Karanshi
00:04:32who tried to justify terrorism as a legitimate struggle in Jammu and Kashmir.
00:04:37Listen in.
00:04:39What India tends to term as terrorism is in fact the legitimate struggle as per the international conventions.
00:04:49Those who endeavoured to subdue the will of Kashmiri people
00:04:52and sought conflict elimination instead of resolution
00:04:57have made it more relevant and pronounced through their own actions.
00:05:02News that's coming in at the moment.
00:05:10Karnataka Congress has now given out a show cause notice to a loyalist from the DKS camp.
00:05:18Iqbal claimed 100 MLAs were backing DKS to become the chief minister.
00:05:22Congress in a statement said the statement has caused confusion and embarrassment to the state government.
00:05:27The MLA has been given a show cause notice for violation of the party discipline.
00:05:33Amid all this buzz that's coming in from the state of Karnataka,
00:05:36it's the deputy chief minister, DKS, who's made it very clear that he's not eyeing the chief ministerial position.
00:05:44It's Karnataka Congress that has now given out a show cause notice to a DK ship Kumar loyalist, MLA Iqbal.
00:05:50MLA Iqbal very recently claimed that there are 100 MLAs that are backing DKS
00:05:55and they want him to become the chief minister.
00:05:58Congress said this statement has caused confusion and embarrassment.
00:06:02The MLA has now been given the show cause notice because he violated party line and party discipline.
00:06:12He is one of our the best leader, no doubt.
00:06:17He has given a good administration, good service.
00:06:21Last period also, full time he was the chief minister.
00:06:23This time also we have given opportunity, the high command has given opportunity for two and a half years.
00:06:31So, Shiv Kumar was given a wonderful contribution to the party, to build the party.
00:06:41Sky is the limit for his efforts.
00:06:44He has given such a programs.
00:06:45So, in that sense, what I mean to say is, is the right time to give him as a chief minister.
00:06:53My colleague Sagai Raj is now joining me on the story.
00:06:57Sagai, we are seeing clarifications now coming in from DK Shif Kumar, the deputy chief minister in the state of Karnataka.
00:07:04Even though we have heard over the course of past many months, many MLAs saying they want DK Shif Kumar to become the chief minister,
00:07:10a clarification of sorts has come from none other than DK Shif Kumar.
00:07:14Absolutely, Adi, if you notice that DK Shif Kumar has categorically mentioned that he is looking forward to bring the party to power in 2028.
00:07:26And his ambition is that and nothing else than that.
00:07:29And this comes after a series of backing, the momentum which has been built behind DK Shif Kumar to be the next chief minister probably in the month of November or December.
00:07:41And then after that, there was a meeting with the MLAs from last two days by AICC General Secretary and Karnataka Inchaj Gandhi Suryawala.
00:07:50And subsequently, even Suryawala has categorically mentioned that they were not, they weren't discussing about the leadership change in the state.
00:07:56And now there is a showcast notice which has been issued against Iqbal Hussain,
00:08:02stating that he has embarrassed the party for his statement on backing DK Shif Kumar.
00:08:08Thank you, Sakai, for giving us all those details.
00:08:11It's the Congress party that has now issued a showcast notice to MLA Iqbal.
00:08:15MLA Iqbal in the state of Karnataka said that DK Shif Kumar should become the chief minister.
00:08:19It's the Karnataka political potpoiler which is now escalating with each passing day.
00:08:27After both DK Shif Kumar and Siddharamaya denied any kind of rift in the state government,
00:08:33the Deputy Chief Minister DK Shif Kumar in fact has reiterated that at the moment,
00:08:38his priority is to strengthen the party for the 2028 state elections.
00:08:43He is denied having any immediate ambitions to become the chief minister of the state.
00:08:46Backing Siddharamaya, DK Shif Kumar said Siddharamaya is his leader
00:08:50and they are working together for the state of Karnataka.
00:08:53But despite the very public show that they are together, internal camps are suggesting otherwise.
00:08:58Siddharamaya camp still wants DK Shif Kumar to give up the key portfolios that he is holding at the moment.
00:09:04They've also denied that any power-sharing deal was actually ever made.
00:09:08On the other hand, DK Shif Kumar camp is demanding a leadership change
00:09:11to fix what they are saying a damaged governance image.
00:09:14The BJP has attacked both the camps, alleging that the Congress is betraying public trust.
00:09:19BJP leaders are claiming that there are rumours that Karnataka Chief Minister Post is actually up for sale.
00:09:25They further accuse the Congress of weak leadership and say public only cares when they will end corruption.
00:09:30Corruption, price raise.
00:09:35Who will become CM, we don't know who will give money, who will give money, we don't know who will give money.
00:09:42I think that who will get more money, the CM will get more money.
00:09:47You see, no one is talking about leadership.
00:10:04There is no change of leadership, okay?
00:10:06So even D.K. Shukumar or the PCC president himself has told just now,
00:10:10there is no change in leadership.
00:10:12And also both of them working together, there is a unity in the party.
00:10:16There is no such issues in the party, in front of party.
00:10:20That depends on the high command.
00:10:22We can't insist high command to do this, not like that.
00:10:27But any D.K. should be given one opportunity to serve the state.
00:10:34Because he is a very good fighter.
00:10:36Since so many years he worked for the party, he fought for the party.
00:10:44So our opinion is to give the opportunity to D.K. Shukumar.
00:10:51In an exclusive interview with India Today's consulting editor Rajdeep Sar Desai,
00:10:56Karnataka's deputy chief minister, D.K. Shukumar has refuted all the speculation
00:11:00about any kind of leadership change in the state government.
00:11:03In fact, he went a step further and stated that it is Siddharamaya who is his leader
00:11:08and the chief minister.
00:11:10Listen in to what Karnataka's deputy chief minister has to say.
00:11:12Are we now to understand that Mr. Siddharamaya will be chief minister till 2028, till the next election,
00:11:20or is this a temporary truce between you and him?
00:11:23See, we have been working together.
00:11:30The people of Karnataka has given us opportunity to serve them.
00:11:36We have implemented whatever we have promised.
00:11:39Their entire country is looking at.
00:11:41The confidence restored by the people of this state is very much important.
00:11:46So the party has decided who has to be the chief minister and the party will take a call.
00:11:52That is what we are working together.
00:11:54Siddharamaya is our leader, he is my chief minister, I am his deputy, we all are working together.
00:11:59You are saying party?
00:12:00Now Mr. Sudjiwal has come to see the organization.
00:12:03Yes.
00:12:04See, I am telling you, Mr. Sudjiwal has come to make, see, now Mr. Malikajin Karge had announced that
00:12:14this year will be the year of organization.
00:12:17So we are changing all the organization structure.
00:12:20The DCC, the blocks who have been there for a very long time and a new setup, they want
00:12:24to give more power to the DCCs.
00:12:27That process is going on.
00:12:30So he is taking suggestions from all the legislators, who has to be, who is to lead, whether the
00:12:35DCCs should fight the election or work for the party.
00:12:38All these things have been discussed and we are just planning for 100 Congress party, Congress
00:12:44officers.
00:12:45In that, currently he is just discussing.
00:12:47Sir, sir, the reason, sir, the reason I am asking you this is because there were reports
00:12:51ever since, in fact, you all won the election two years ago that you and Mr. Siddharamaya
00:12:56will share the term.
00:12:57Two and a half years, Siddharamaya, two and a half years, DK Shiv Kumar.
00:13:00The two and a half years ends in November.
00:13:02And there has been speculation that you will take over from him.
00:13:05Now, is that spec, is this, therefore, that's why I asked you, is it a temporary truce or
00:13:10is a decision been taken that Siddharamaya ji will continue for the entire term?
00:13:15I don't want to discuss anything as that.
00:13:20Yesterday, my president, the ACC president, Mr. Malikarjin Karge has commented on the issue.
00:13:27When he has commented, I am no one to comment on that issue.
00:13:31Whatever the party takes a stand, we stand by it.
00:13:34Whether it is one year, two year, three year, five year or next five years,
00:13:39we have been going by the party high command.
00:13:41I am a disciplined soldier of the party.
00:13:43I will go by my party high command, whatever they tell.
00:13:46News that's coming in from the state of West Bengal now.
00:13:54Scratch marks found on the body of the crime accused, Manojit Mishra.
00:13:58Police sources have told India today the injuries were detected
00:14:01during the medical-legal examination of the arrested accused.
00:14:05Now, this in connection with the South Calcutta Law College gang rape case.
00:14:09Sources also told India today during the examination,
00:14:11few scratches were detected on his body, which can only be considered as resistance mark.
00:14:17This indicates that the victim fought to save herself when the crime was being committed.
00:14:24My colleague Rajesh Saha is now joining me on the story.
00:14:27Rajesh, this is evidence which is now being brought to the fore.
00:14:30Sources have told India today there has been scratch marks on the body of the accused.
00:14:35So, the police is saying that these point towards the fact that the victim was fighting to save herself
00:14:41when the crime was being committed.
00:14:43Absolutely, Ashwarya.
00:14:45This is another evidence, another strong evidence what police could have gathered,
00:14:51what police have gathered against the arrested accused, against the effendent accused.
00:14:56Because during the medical-legal examination, which was conducted on last Sunday,
00:15:02during the examination, the scratch marks found on the body of the prime accused,
00:15:09Manojit Mishra, was the main effendent accused.
00:15:12And as for the sources, a few scratch marks were found around his neck,
00:15:17which proves that the victim girl, victim college girl, wanted to save herself,
00:15:25and she fought during the crime committed.
00:15:28And that is the indication of resistance mark, that is also called a resistance mark,
00:15:34and that had occurred due to the nails of the victim,
00:15:40and which proves the victim tried to save herself.
00:15:44And this is another evidence regarding the crime,
00:15:48which was alleged against the crime accused, Manojit Mishra, Ashwarya.
00:15:53Right, thank you Rajesh for giving us all those details.
00:15:55The police now collecting evidence.
00:15:57The investigations in this gruesome case are underway.
00:15:59These days after women's gang rape at the South Calcutta Law College
00:16:06sent shockwaves not just across the state of West Bengal,
00:16:09but across the entire country,
00:16:11there is another student from the same institution
00:16:13who has now come forward with very serious allegation charges.
00:16:17She has accused Manojit Mishra, the prime accused in the recent case,
00:16:20of molesting and threatening her almost two years ago.
00:16:24Speaking exclusively with India Today,
00:16:26the student claimed Mishra is a Trinambul Congress Chhatru Parishad leader,
00:16:30assaulted her during a college trip.
00:16:33She further alleged,
00:16:34nearly 15 female students have been victims of his predatory behaviour.
00:16:39A political storm has erupted in the state of West Bengal.
00:16:42The Irrigation Minister and senior TMC leader Manas Bhunia
00:16:45referred to this gang rape as a small incident.
00:16:48He later issued a big clarification claiming that his statement was changed
00:16:52and saying that this is a BJP-led smear campaign against him.
00:16:56The BJP has launched a scathing attack at the TMC government saying
00:16:59that this is TMC's sponsored incident.
00:17:01The party is accusing Mamata Banerjee-led administration of shielding criminals
00:17:05and failing to protect the women across the state of West Bengal.
00:17:10We submitted that the, besides the medical evidence,
00:17:13the electronic evidence and the circumstantial evidence,
00:17:15corroborated the version of the victim that she stated in the affair.
00:17:18During the course of investigation in the last four days,
00:17:20that version of the victim was corroborated in the evidences.
00:17:24What is your version for providing Enela to the victim?
00:17:28We said that the Enela was provided so that she can regain her breath
00:17:32and thereafter she was tortured subsequently.
00:17:36It was boiled so clearly inside the human crime…
00:17:37We're going to describe a little pull over Sheraton as well.
00:17:42We have only worked out, it was unbelievable.
00:17:44You rights children and fathers and others just really did.
00:17:48Many aged evidences have been forgiven.
00:17:49And even COLKATA had been weakened.
00:17:50We felt there was a premier in Sweden.
00:17:51We are going to tak tak tak tak hindi who is taken with them.
00:17:53Sue, and our compassionate family wereencias.
00:17:55A temporary family was takenEricists.
00:17:57So, you bubbled back people if you did not get a job.
00:18:00A very beneficiary of the Jewish culture.
00:18:02Why?
00:18:03Previgation is not out of that context.
00:18:18Is it related to my statement with Cosba?
00:18:20The fact that we have to do this, we have to do this, and we have to do this.
00:18:34We have to do this, and we have to do this.
00:18:40foreign
00:18:54foreign
00:19:10Now, West Bengal Minister Manas Poonia, in fact, is not the only one who has been making these kind of comments about this gruesome crime.
00:19:34Earlier, it was TNC MP Kalyan Banerjee and MLA Madan Mitra.
00:19:38All of them have given out similar statements.
00:19:40Listen in.
00:20:10It's not the only one who has been making these kind of comments.
00:20:15It's not the only one who has been making these kind of comments.
00:20:20It's the only one who has been making these kind of comments.
00:20:54We're shifting gear and now moving to the story coming in from Mumbai.
00:21:05The investigation in the Shefali Zarivara death case has now intensified.
00:21:09Several shocking revelations have now come to light.
00:21:12The Mumbai police have told India Today that on June 27th, Shefali Zarivara was fasting the entire day for a pooja that was to be held at her house.
00:21:20At around 8.30 p.m., she reportedly consumed stale fried rice.
00:21:24Soon after this, she began feeling very uneasy.
00:21:27There were symptoms of acidity also.
00:21:29She said to have self-medicated, she took a couple of medicines without consulting a doctor.
00:21:34Earlier the same day, she had also taken an anti-aging shot at home from a medical professional.
00:21:39At about 10.15 p.m., the condition worsened and she began experiencing intense uneasiness.
00:21:45At 10.30 p.m., she collapsed.
00:21:47That's when the house staff immediately alerted her husband.
00:21:50Parag then checked Shefali's pulse and took her to the hospital.
00:21:53However, on reaching the hospital at about 10.45 p.m., Shefali was declared brought dead at the hospital.
00:21:59The police were informed at about 11.30 p.m.
00:22:02The police have now retrieved all the CCTV footages from inside the house.
00:22:06They've also recovered two boxes full of a lot of medicines including vitamin C tablets, injections and other drugs.
00:22:12Many of these medicines are not part of the recent prescription that was given to Shefali.
00:22:17The initial reports from doctors and police suggest a major sudden drop in blood pressure
00:22:21and this could have triggered a cardiac arrest.
00:22:25In fact, my colleague Akshita Dhan Gopal very recently spoke with Dr. Mukesh about Shefali Zariwala's death.
00:22:32The doctor is also stressing on the dangers when you take medicine without consulting a doctor.
00:22:37Listen in.
00:22:37She had multiple medications in some cases also to kind of clear the uneasiness she felt after eating,
00:22:46perhaps without realizing that the two could have a deadly impact on her body.
00:22:52So, first of all, I agree with you that we should avoid self-medication.
00:22:58I am not aware about glutathione and vitamin C because both are considered generally harmless and over-the-counter.
00:23:09And regarding pentoprizole and domperidome, they are over-the-counter drugs, very, very safe.
00:23:16But I am looking at the sequence which you have just narrated and even Mumbai police has done.
00:23:23This looks like a classic case of acute heart attack.
00:23:26This is what happens in an acute heart attack.
00:23:30And if you don't pay attention to it, say in two, three hours, you are likely to have a fatal arrhythmia and die.
00:23:36And most of the time, the first time, especially in younger people, the heart attack can be confused with gas or acidity.
00:23:46And the people, they tend to keep taking pentoprizole and they don't seek medical help.
00:23:51So, what I just heard, it is a very classic tale how acute heart attack presents.
00:23:58So, my take is, if you have some discomfort, whether it is in the tummy or whether it is in the chest,
00:24:05and if you think that it is a gas-only acidity because you have been fasting or you have been exerting,
00:24:11and if you take any medicine like pentoprizole and domperitone like that,
00:24:15and if in 15-20 minutes you don't get relief, please rush to a medical center, call for help,
00:24:23because it can be very, very possible that it is a major heart attack which has started
00:24:29and it is going a heart attack which can turn fatal anytime.
00:24:36Top story we are following here on India Today coming in from the state of West Bengal.
00:24:41Shockering depravity in the Kolkata campus rape case.
00:24:44Inhaler used to revive the survivor, prolonged the rape.
00:24:48TMC Neta sickening rape perversion.
00:24:51Survivor fainted, was revived and then raped again.
00:24:55The video, which is a technical proof, affirms what the victim has been saying so far.
00:25:00This is a rape that has shook the entire nation.
00:25:06My colleague Rajesh Saha is now joining me on the story.
00:25:09Rajesh, this is shocking and sickening revelation that has now come to the fore.
00:25:14The survivor had fainted, she was revived and then raped once again.
00:25:17Absolutely, the chief public prosecutor Saurin Ghoshal has said to the court that she was provided
00:25:26inhaler by the accused.
00:25:28Because if we look at the letter of complaint submitted by the victim, she wrote that she
00:25:36was provided inhaler when she felt unwell.
00:25:40And she asked for inhaler because she has that disease.
00:25:43And then one of the accused went outside of the college and brought an inhaler and provided
00:25:49the same to her.
00:25:51And then it was used by the inhaler.
00:25:54It was used by the victim.
00:25:57And during the questioning, during the questioning inside the court, one of the lawyers also raised
00:26:02that question that if the accused had the intention to rape her, then why he provided that inhaler
00:26:10to her and while replying to this question, the chief public prosecutor on behalf of Kolkata
00:26:15police, Mr. Saurin Ghoshal, has said to the court that she was provided inhaler by the accused
00:26:21so that she can survive and so that they can torture her more.
00:26:26This is the reason why the accused provided inhaler to the victim.
00:26:32Back to you.
00:26:34Rajesh, please stay on with me.
00:26:35We've got some more news which is coming in.
00:26:36But before that, listen in to reactions coming in from the city of Kolkata with regards
00:26:40to this heinous rape case.
00:26:42This is the result, and in launching of the individuals in English that рamblin
00:26:50will be subjected to is taken to hablaha.
00:26:52The doctor said that you all check the records of local affairs and intellectuals.
00:26:56And then it felt like medicine will Hallo into medical.
00:26:58And it щes be closed so that they cannot record the Then her see professionals
00:27:01at the first time the circumstances are necessary and as there are electronic evidence.
00:27:04These kids were just supposed to get on them.
00:27:06No news coming in from the city of Kolkata.
00:27:15Scratch marks were found on the body of the prime accused, Monujit Mishra.
00:27:20Police sources have told India today the injuries were detected
00:27:23during the medical legal examination of the arrested accused.
00:27:27Now this in connection with the South Calcutta Law College gang rape case.
00:27:31Sources have also told India today during the examination
00:27:33few scratches were detected on his body which only can be considered as resistance mark
00:27:39which indicate that the victim was fighting to save herself when the crime was committed.
00:27:46My colleague Rajesh Saha still with me on this story.
00:27:49Rajesh, shocking news every 24 hours.
00:27:52Shocking piece of evidence coming to the fore.
00:27:54From what we are understanding the police now is also pointing towards
00:27:57the scratch marks on the body of the main accused.
00:27:59Exactly. Several scratch marks were found around the neck of the prime accused,
00:28:07Monujit Mishra, and that scratch marks were found during the medical legal examination
00:28:12of the arrested accused which was conducted on last Sunday at Kolkata Medical College.
00:28:18And as for the sources in Kolkata police, that injury marks were detected during the examination
00:28:23around the neck of the prime accused only and which indicates towards the resistance
00:28:29towards the resistance by the victim college girl.
00:28:33And that proves that victim girl tried to save herself.
00:28:38She tried to fight with the accused when the alleged crime committed inside the South Calcutta Law College.
00:28:44And that resistance marks, that injury marks towards, that resistance marks indicates towards the resistance
00:28:52and how the victim fought with the accused during the crime committed inside the Kolkata Law College.
00:28:59Back to you.
00:29:00Rajesh, if you could also throw some light, what exactly is happening, how far the investigations have gone.
00:29:05We understand statements have been taken.
00:29:07What's even more shocking is that other students have also come out now.
00:29:11And they have pointed fingers at the main accused, Monujit Mishra.
00:29:16Yes, we spoke to another victim yesterday.
00:29:20She is claiming that she was also molested by that prime accused, Monujit Mishra.
00:29:25And she spoke to India Today exclusively and said that she was badly molested
00:29:32and an attempt to rape also took place by that prime, Monujit Mishra, in a college trip
00:29:40when they went outside of Kolkata for a college picnic.
00:29:45And she was molested by that same accused.
00:29:48And not only that, the victim, another victim, she claims that that happened two years back.
00:29:53And when she tried to lodge a police complaint, Monujit Mishra, she was threatened.
00:29:57Her parent was threatened to be killed.
00:30:00Her sister was threatened to be kidnapped and killed by that prime accused.
00:30:04And she also claiming that not only she, at least 10 to 15 people are there in the college,
00:30:13including the ex-students and current students who have been molested and raped by that prime accused.
00:30:18But no one could gather brave to file a police complaint against that person
00:30:24because he was so much powerful, he was so influential politically due to his political color
00:30:31because that Monujit Mishra was close to few TMC leaders, including the TMC MLA, Ashok Dev.
00:30:37Back to you.
00:30:39Rajesh, please stay on with me.
00:30:40We've got some more news coming in from the state of West Bengal now.
00:30:44Shocking depravity in the Kolkata campus rape case.
00:30:47Inhaler was used to revive the survivor and to prolong the rape.
00:30:51TMC Nethas have been making sickening comments with regards to this gang rape.
00:30:56The survivor, in fact, had fainted, but she was revived and raped again.
00:31:00The video, which is the technical proof, is now affirming everything that the victim has said in this version.
00:31:21My colleague Rajesh Saha is still with me on the story.
00:31:35Rajesh, piece by piece, the evidence which is now coming to the fore from what we are understanding,
00:31:39the police is also trying to piece together the puzzle to understand what exactly has happened.
00:31:43Rajesh, many questions are being asked, not just of the TMC, but also of the college and the administration.
00:31:52Absolutely.
00:31:53Many questions are being raised.
00:31:55That is the college administration.
00:31:57That is the reason why the vice-principal of the same college has been questioned two times by Kolkata police.
00:32:03The vice-principal was summoned by Kolkata police to be questioned,
00:32:06and she appeared before the special investment team yesterday, and she has been questioned by the agency.
00:32:12Because Manojit Mishra was too much close to the authority, he was too much close to the ruling part of the criminal congress,
00:32:20and he was appointed as a contractual staff of the same college after passing out from South Kolkata Law College.
00:32:28And why he was appointed in the college as a contractual staff, despite having several criminal records.
00:32:35That was a serious question.
00:32:38And to find the answers, the vice-principal was summoned by Kolkata police.
00:32:42And there is another reason behind the summon, because Manojit Mishra called the vice-principal in the morning on Thursday,
00:32:54and the crime was committed on Wednesday night.
00:32:57So, she was summoned for questioning, and the vice-principal has been questioned by Kolkata police.
00:33:03Back to you.
00:33:07Right, Rajesh, if you can also tell us, you know, politically, it's the BJP which has started to raise fingers at the TMC,
00:33:13but sickening remarks are coming in.
00:33:15In fact, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was the first one to speak out.
00:33:18He is now saying that his remarks were twisted, but they are all saying that this is just a small incident.
00:33:23That is quite natural.
00:33:27BJP is raising question on TMC, and TMC is also attacking BJP.
00:33:32And political blame game has already started since beginning after this incident,
00:33:38because this is the second incident within a year after the RGIC or rape and murder incident.
00:33:42So, BJP is claiming that nothing has been changed in Kolkata, and the Kolkata police is inactive.
00:33:49Kolkata police has failed to prevent any kind of crime, especially crime against women.
00:33:56So, BJP as a political party, as an opposition party of West Bengal is continuously blaming the state government
00:34:02and also Kolkata police, and they are raising finger at the Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee.
00:34:09But TMC has clearly stated that they are also demanding strong punishment against all the arrested accused.
00:34:22TMC has created distance from Manajit minister saying that he was not a big leader.
00:34:27What post he was holding is a very small post in Trimul Chhatra Purishad.
00:34:30Back to you.
00:34:33Rajesh, please stay on with me. We've got some more news which is coming in day by day.
00:34:37The puzzle is now getting simplified. The investigations are now taking place.
00:34:41Days after the women's gang rape, which took place at the South Kolkata Law Student College,
00:34:46this has sent shockwaves not just across the state of West Bengal, but across the entire country.
00:34:51And now there's another student from the same institute.
00:34:54She has come forward and there are serious allegations that she is now levelling.
00:34:57Speaking exclusively to India today,
00:34:59the student has now claimed that Mishra, a Trimulamul Congress,
00:35:03Shathur Parishad leader, assaulted her during a college trip two years ago.
00:35:14News that's coming in.
00:35:15The visuals that you can see.
00:35:16Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking.
00:35:19He's now on a visit to Ghana.
00:35:20Prime Minister Modi is on a five-day tour.
00:35:23These are the visuals that are coming in at the moment.
00:35:26Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarking on a five-day tour.
00:35:30He's going to Ghana now.
00:35:35Prime Minister Modi, after Operation Sindhu, has embarked on several such tours.
00:35:42Prime Minister Modi is now leaving for the five-nation tour.
00:35:45Prime Minister Modi will be back on the 10th of July.
00:35:51My colleague Pranay Upadhyay is now joining me on the story.
00:35:54Pranay, Prime Minister Modi leaving for the five-nation tour.
00:35:57Very, very critical.
00:35:58Very, very crucial.
00:35:58We have seen how India over the past many years has been making this aggressive diplomatic outreach to all the nations.
00:36:05You're absolutely right, Ashwarya.
00:36:08Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be leaving for this five-nation tour.
00:36:11And this is a very significant tour.
00:36:13It discovers two continents, five nations.
00:36:16His first stop will be Ghana.
00:36:18And this will be, you know, after many years, any Indian Prime Minister would be visiting Ghana.
00:36:23And Ghana is an important destination in Africa because this is the first democracy of Western Africa.
00:36:33It is a mineral-rich country where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be holding delegation-level talks with the leadership.
00:36:39And there will be partnerships as far as the mineral and the mining sector is concerned, defense cooperation is concerned.
00:36:46Thereafter, Prime Minister will be going to Trinidad and Tobago.
00:36:49And Trinidad and Tobago has a large number of Indian diaspora historic relation in the Caribbean.
00:36:57And after that, Prime Minister will be going to Latin America.
00:37:00His first stop will be Argentina.
00:37:01And in Argentina, a lot of defense cooperation agreements are on table during his talks with the Argentinian leadership.
00:37:10And thereafter, Prime Minister will be going to Brazil as well.
00:37:13And the visit to Brazil is interesting because in Brazil, he will be participating in the BRICS summit.
00:37:21And also, he will be, you know, he'll be the state guest for Brazil.
00:37:26So he'll be in Rio de Janeiro.
00:37:28And after that, he'll be coming to Brasilia as well.
00:37:30And thereafter, while coming back, he'll have a stopover and an important bilateral visit to Namibia.
00:37:36So you see that, you know, it's an eight-day, seven-day, eight-day tour, you know, two continents, five countries,
00:37:44and very important key partnership in terms of India's defense partnerships, India's security, you know, partnership,
00:37:51India's business alliances and, you know, making prospects for the Indian investment, you know, across the continent.
00:37:59And so this is a very important tour.
00:38:01And after long, Prime Minister is embarking on such a long trip, probably after a decade.
00:38:08He'll be away for, like, almost eight, nine days.
00:38:11And so this comes at a very important time when India is reaching to various countries as becoming the important voice of Global South.
00:38:21So you see, all these countries are part of the Global South process, which India, you know, took upon and became an important voice of Global South.
00:38:29You would recall, Aishwarya, that, you know, ahead of G20 summit hosted by India in September 2023, Prime Minister held a Global South summit with over 100 countries.
00:38:42Pranay, also, you know, an engagement, active engagement with the entire Global South, that's also something that the experts are looking at.
00:38:51And we have seen how there is a push by India, making sure that the world understands what's happening.
00:38:57We can also, Pranay, expect Prime Minister Modi that when he's speaking with the dignitaries there,
00:39:02he will touch upon terrorism and how terrorism is a global menace.
00:39:05You're absolutely right, Aishwarya. Terrorism remains an important key point for India's engagement.
00:39:12And this is not about India alone.
00:39:14Terrorism is a global menace.
00:39:16You would recall that India is the only country which pushed forth, you know, the competence of Convention on International Terrorism.
00:39:23And much before 9-11, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihar-e-Vachmur, you know,
00:39:27and he advocated having an international convention against international terrorism, you know, from UN much before 9-11 happened.
00:39:38And the world perspective changed there after even the U.S. perspective changed when they launched the war on terror.
00:39:44So, while, you know, embarking on this important visit, Prime Minister's key agenda will be to sensitize the world community to have a considered and a unified approach to deal with the menace of terrorism.
00:39:57Because, you know, India has been saying that this is a global menace, this is a collective response needs to be there for this problem of terrorism.
00:40:08And for that, we need to have one approach because this is also important for the economic development, for the economic partnership, for having, you know, trust among countries.
00:40:19Because cross-border terrorism is a thing which is a problem which hampers the international cooperation, the success of the regional cooperation processes.
00:40:27And that's why, you know, terrorism becomes a key point and key agent for Prime Minister's engagement.
00:40:32But besides that, you see the defense cooperation agreement, you know, is with Argentina.
00:40:38A lot of defense deals are on cards, be it the offshore patrol vessels, be it the, you know, missile defense programs.
00:40:46You know, India's Akash missile system, Argentina has expressed interest in Akash missile defense systems.
00:40:52So, a lot of defense deals are also on cards.
00:40:55Thank you, Pranay, for giving us all those details.
00:40:57My colleague also pointing out a lot of defense deals is also something that's on cards.
00:41:01This is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's almost 10-day two to five nations.
00:41:06This is an outreach which is being done by India in the entire global south.
00:41:15We're shifting here and now moving to a story coming in from West Bengal,
00:41:18where days after the woman's gang rape at the South Calcutta Law College, now the entire country is in shock.
00:41:24There's another student from the same institute who has now come forward.
00:41:27Serious allegations are being leveled by her.
00:41:29She spoke exclusively to India today.
00:41:33We're also seeing how not just these allegations coming in, on the other hand, a big political storm also erupting in the state of West Bengal.
00:41:40The West Bengal Irrigation Minister and senior TMC leader, Manas Bhunia, referred to this gang rape as a small incident.
00:41:47He later issued a clarification, claiming that his statement was twisted and saying that this is a BJP-led smear campaign.
00:41:53But he's not the only one who's making these kind of comments.
00:41:57Earlier, it was TMC MP Kalyan Banerji and MLA Madan Mitra.
00:42:01They all have made similar comments.
00:42:03Take a look.
00:42:23Is it related to my statement with Kasbah?
00:42:35Is it related to my statement with Kasbah?
00:42:36Is it related to my statement with Kasbah?
00:42:48Is it related to my statement with Kasbah?
00:42:49Is it related to my statement with Kasbah?
00:43:03Is it related to my statement with Kasbah?
00:43:33Is it related to my statement?
00:43:38He's related to herk link in the description with Kasbah.
00:43:48Okay, we'll try and challenge me.
00:43:51We'll try and kill.
00:43:52The damages that we can kill all the best are.
00:43:53We can't kill each other.
00:43:54We'll try and kill each other.
00:43:55As a iエk message came from ourstock.
00:43:58There is a message that your students and students who would like to see if you get into knowledge in a bit,
00:44:10then you go to college, then you turn something that will build unit,
00:44:15then don't go to it, you will not be the best.
00:44:21If the girl gets a girl, then you don't get a jumping.
00:44:25If someone told someone to go to a girl, he had taken advantage of the situation.
00:44:55These are big statements being asked by the opposition party in the state of Tamil Nadu.
00:45:15So far, 25 custodial deaths, that's the figure that has come out.
00:45:20AIADMK said that this is breach of human rights.
00:45:23EPS calls out the police atrocities under M.K. Stalin government's rule.
00:45:29Opposition training the guns on M.K. Stalin over custodial deaths that are taking place.
00:45:34AIADMK says that these are not deaths, these are murders that are being committed by the Tamil Nadu police.
00:45:43EPS also saying, how did the police pass it off as epilepsy?
00:45:47This is big news which is coming in from the state of Tamil Nadu.
00:45:53Opposition training guns.
00:45:56M.K. Stalin government over the custodial murders that are taking place.
00:46:00A figure has been given out by the main opposition party, that is the AIADMK.
00:46:04They are now saying that police atrocity has increased many folds under the M.K. Stalin government.
00:46:09The Tamil Nadu elections will take place next year and we are seeing the politics now heating up.
00:46:16AIADMK has an alliance with BGP.
00:46:18The two will fight elections together.
00:46:21And now we are seeing the AIADMK's top leaders asking questions of the government, of the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
00:46:28So far, 25 custodial deaths have taken place in the state of Tamil Nadu.
00:46:37AIADMK now asking questions.
00:46:41In fact, the police had said that this is a case of seizure and after the seizure, the death took place.
00:46:46AIADMK now saying that this is something that has increased many folds.
00:46:55Police atrocities have increased many folds in the state of Tamil Nadu.
00:47:06Now, this has been a shocking case of custodial death in Tamil Nadu.
00:47:09A 27-year-old man, Ajit Kumar, was picked up by the police and he was later killed.
00:47:15The police is claiming that he died because he suffered a seizure.
00:47:18But there is a shocking video which says otherwise.
00:47:21The Madras High Court has ordered a judicial inquiry.
00:47:23The Stalin government, however, is seeking a CBI investigation in this case.
00:47:27Watch this report coming in from the state of Tamil Nadu.
00:47:30Another young life, allegedly crushed by the very people who have sworn to protect us.
00:47:4527-year-old Ajit Kumar, a temple security guard in Shivaganga,
00:47:50was picked up by a special police team over a complaint about missing gold jewelry.
00:47:55What followed is a horrifying tale of torture and cover-up.
00:48:02The police claimed Ajit died of an epileptic seizure,
00:48:05saying that he collapsed while trying to escape during a search at a cow shelter.
00:48:10But a video shot by a temple worker showed Ajit being mercilessly beaten with lattes.
00:48:17The autopsy confirmed wounds on the victim's hands, forehead, shoulders, dried blood and a swollen ankle.
00:48:25This doesn't look like a medical episode, but a killing in uniform.
00:48:31Five police personnel have been arrested.
00:48:34The SP transferred.
00:48:35The CBCID is now probing the case.
00:48:40Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, under fire over the custodial death,
00:48:45claims his government has taken action.
00:48:46But Stalin's claim has found no takers from the opposition.
00:49:00BJP has moved the Human Rights Commission,
00:49:03while AIA-DMK's Palani Sami denounced the alleged police excesses,
00:49:08calling it murder by police under DMK.
00:49:10TVK chief Vijay also demanded a SIT probe,
00:49:15calling the police actions immoral and inhuman.
00:49:19But the most scathing remarks came from the Madras High Court,
00:49:22which has ordered a judicial inquiry into the horror.
00:49:25The High Court came down heavily on Tamil Nadu police,
00:49:28calling the incident a brutal act
00:49:30and stating bluntly that the state has killed its own citizen.
00:49:33Ajit's death brings back haunting memories of Jaya Raj and Benix in 2020,
00:49:41who were beaten with lattes, stripped and severely injured,
00:49:45leading to their death.
00:49:48The question remains,
00:49:49how many more Ajits before custodial violence ends in India?
00:49:54Bureau Report, India Today.
00:49:58It's a big major diplomatic win for India at the court summit.
00:50:02Court leaders have condemned the attack
00:50:04and urged to bring the butchers back of the Pehlgaon terror attack.
00:50:08External Affairs Minister S.J. Shankar
00:50:10has reiterated India's right to defend itself against terrorism at the court summit.
00:50:15This just today after Pakistani army chief
00:50:17tried to push a fake agenda on terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
00:50:21It's External Affairs Minister who has issued a very stern warning to Pakistan,
00:50:25saying that India reserves every right to defend the people against terrorism.
00:50:30Speaking in Washington, D.C.,
00:50:31S.J. Shankar said India will exercise that right,
00:50:33asserting that the world must now display zero tolerance towards terrorism.
00:50:38His counterparts from United States, Australia and Japan,
00:50:41all of them were listening when S.J. Shankar was speaking about India
00:50:44and its right to defend itself.
00:50:47S.J. Shankar also said India expects its court partners
00:50:49to understand and appreciate the position in dealing with terrorism.
00:50:53Rajnath Singh also spoke with the U.S. Defense Secretary and said that it is United States of America
00:51:01that has given unwavering support to India in its fights against terrorism
00:51:04and said that at the moment, the talks are on for deepening defense ties between U.S. and India.
00:51:09a word about terrorism in the light of our recent experience the world must display zero tolerance
00:51:20victims and perpetrators must never be equated and india has every right to defend its people
00:51:28against terrorism and we will exercise that right we expect our court partners to understand and
00:51:35appreciate that india plans to host the next quad summit we have some proposals on how to make that
00:51:43productive i'm sure so do our partners we will discuss and i'm sure we will agree once again i
00:51:50thank secretary rubio for hosting us today and i look forward to our discussions now it was the
00:51:56pakistani army chief who during an event in karachi tried to justify terrorism as legitimate struggle
00:52:02in jammu in kashmir listen in what india tends to term as terrorism is in fact the legitimate struggle
00:52:11as per the international conventions those who endeavored to subdue the will of kashmiri people
00:52:17and sought conflict elimination instead of resolution have made it more relevant and pronounced
00:52:25through their own actions my colleague pranay upadhyay is now joining me on the story pranay big
00:52:31statements are being made at the court summit by external affairs minister jai shankar he's told
00:52:36the world that india has every right to defend itself and to protect the citizens against terrorism
00:52:42absolutely ashwarya and uh excellent affairs minister dr jai shankar started his visit with
00:52:48inauguration of uh of an exhibition in un headquarter hosted by the permanent mission of india against
00:52:54terrorism and uh even you know subsequently when he met uh secretary marco rubio uh bilaterally as
00:53:00well as uh for the quads uh foreign ministers meeting he clearly mentioned he you know put for india's
00:53:06stance as far as the zero tolerance policy against terrorism is concerned and uh you know quad partners
00:53:12have also agreed because the same issue has been reflected uh in the joint statement issued by the
00:53:17foreign by the foreign ministers and this clearly mentions that that those who are perpetrators of
00:53:22uh this uh terror attack palgam terror attack uh the statement mentioned about the palgam terror attack
00:53:28and also clearly mentioned that those who have perpetrated those who have promoted those who have
00:53:32financed uh you know such terror outfits need to be called out and then there should be an action
00:53:37against those who are who are harboring these terrorists and you know protecting these terrorists
00:53:43so clearly a strong statement from the quad partners from the quad countries and also uh this this
00:53:49clearly a reflection of india's stand uh as far as the quad is concerned but definitely from the u.s soil
00:53:54this message becomes very important because this has come at a time when op sindoor is still on
00:53:59and this was the first bilateral contact between the quad ministers and also india's
00:54:04foreign minister level talk uh with the united states uh at a time when president donald trump hosted uh
00:54:11asemoneer we know that uh how the pakistani army chief was hosted by uh by the u.s administration
00:54:17so clearly uh the statement that perpetrators and victims cannot be equated this is the very
00:54:23strong message and now the same thing the same sentiments have been reflected in the joint
00:54:27statement as well thank you pranay giving us those details my colleague also putting things in
00:54:32perspective and saying that we have now seen uh the u.s has been standing firmly behind india when it
00:54:38comes to terrorism at the quad summit also external affairs minister ashish shankar make a big statement
00:54:42news which is coming in from the united states of america it's donald trump versus elon musk and
00:54:48this face of is escalating once again after head back to south africa jibe which was given by u.s
00:54:55president donald trump donald trump says looking into deporting elon musk might have to put dodge on
00:55:01elon musk donald trump said must gets more subsidies than anyone else across the united states of america
00:55:08my colleague pranay upadhyaya is with me
00:55:37on the story pranay we are now seeing the bromance everyone thought that this is a marriage which
00:55:43was doomed to fail when was the big question but now we are seeing this bitter battle being fought
00:55:48after the marriage is over you are absolutely right uh the big bromance which was much doubted
00:55:55which was much talked about in u.s has turned into uh an ugly fight and that to be that that fight is
00:56:01being like you know uh being uh you know fought uh through social media statements and in the media
00:56:07statement both donald trump and elon musk are hitting at each other and uh as we say in hindi
00:56:12so in the same spirit uh like you know the way this is being fought uh even the republican scamp is
00:56:20is like you know bit jittery about this thing that how it will pan out and uh president donald trump the
00:56:25way he indicated that he can also consider i don't know we do not know that whether it is actually a
00:56:30serious attempt to actually look and into the the musk corporation and uh you know his affairs and
00:56:36his uh you know his companies or or actually he was just just making an off-the-cuff remark but
00:56:42if he talks about deporting and looking into the subsidies being given to the musk companies this is
00:56:48going to be a big thing because you know it's a fight between the most the richest man and and the
00:56:53most powerful politician so clearly uh this is this is going to be a very dirty fight if it pans out
00:56:58because elon musk is also digging his heel and he is also saying that he is going to float a new
00:57:04party he has also indicated previously aishwarya that he is going to fund the opponents of elon of
00:57:10president donald trump because you know and after a few months there will be a there will be a midterm
00:57:15election uh in in u.s and that that is going to be a troublesome thing if if milon uh elon musk try and
00:57:21invest into into donald trump's uh opponent so clearly uh this shows that uh you know uh that there is a
00:57:28serious thing which is going on between uh elon musk and donald trump and if this fight continues
00:57:33it is going to hurt even u.s interests right thank you for giving us those details and my
00:57:39colleague rightly pointed out that if we see this fight taking on it will hurt the united states of
00:57:44america also listen in to what u.s president donald trump has said with regards to elon musk
00:57:49you have to take a look we might have to put doge on elon you know you know doge is doge is the monster
00:57:58that has that might have to go back and eat elon wouldn't that be terrible he gets a lot of subsidies
00:58:03feeder you have to take a look we might have to put doge on elon you know you know doge is doge is the
00:58:12monster that has that might have to go back and eat elon wouldn't that be terrible he gets a lot of
00:58:18subsidies, Frida. Now, US President Donald Trump's big and beautiful bill has actually
00:58:23passed the test in the Senate. Take a look. There was a brief lull. And then came Tesla
00:58:37CEO and former Doge head Elon Musk barrage of tweets attacking the Trump administration.
00:58:43While a voter-arma continued in the Senate over Trump's big, beautiful bill.
00:58:50The public feud between Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump reached its height when Musk described
00:58:56Trump's massive tax and domestic policy bill as a disgusting abomination. But the Senate
00:59:04worked tirelessly to meet the July 4 deadline when Trump's big, beautiful bill is finally
00:59:09signed by the President. Musk warned that the lawmakers backing the bill will lose the
00:59:14next primary. Musk further said the country needs an alternative to the Democratic and Republican
00:59:21parties and suggested launching his own America Party after the bill is passed.
00:59:28Calling the bill utterly insane and destructive, Musk says the bill will result in job loss.
00:59:34Meanwhile, Trump also said he would take a look at the possibility of deporting Elon Musk.
00:59:43Trump's comment came shortly after he launched a scathing attack on Musk over government subsidies
00:59:48and the electric vehicle mandate.
00:59:50I think what's going to happen is Doge is going to look at Musk. And if Doge looks at Musk,
00:59:56we're going to save a fortune. Thank you very much, everybody.
00:59:59I don't think you should be playing that game with me.
01:00:03The bill, which is an extension of Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, seeks to make the cuts permanent.
01:00:11It serves Trump's egos from financing his deportation crackdown to slashing green energy projects.
01:00:18It also exemplifies the growing power of a president who aims to dominate the geopolitics of the era.
01:00:25I think so. I think it's going to be the greatest bill ever passed, even for you as an example.
01:00:33Tremendous amount of Homeland Security money. Tremendous amount.
01:00:38It's going to keep the border secure because, you know, we have secure now, but we need to build more wall.
01:00:43I built almost 600 miles of wall. We need more wall. And all of that's covered in this bill.
01:00:49This bill is amazing for everybody. It's an amazing bill for Florida, too. Really great for Florida.
01:00:54Some of the key bills that the Senate adopted were that the bill bars federal funds from being used for unemployment benefits
01:01:05for individuals whose wages are at least $1 million. Another amendment that passed strikes language from the bill
01:01:12that would have blocked state and local governments from enforcing their own artificial intelligence regulations for 10 years.
01:01:19The other amendment adopted was to move up the eligibility verification requirement
01:01:24for Medicaid by one year. The bill running to nearly 1,000 pages included increased spending for border security,
01:01:34defense and energy production offset to a degree by cuts to health care and food support programs.
01:01:40The process involves Senate approval followed by the House and then reaching the president for his signature to become a law.
01:01:49The news that's coming in at the moment. It's U.S. President Donald Trump and Zoran Mamdani who are now locking horns in an explosive war of words.
01:02:11Mamdani is resisting the immigration rates. Donald Trump is now bristling.
01:02:16Donald Trump's arrest threats to NYC Democrat mayoral candidate pick.
01:02:20Mamdani hits back, says he's not intimidated by what U.S. President Donald Trump is trying to do.
01:02:26Now there is an arrest threat that has been given out by U.S. President Donald Trump.
01:02:34In his nomination speech said he will defy ICE and will not allow ICE to arrest criminal aliens in New York City.
01:02:42Your message to communist Zoran Mamdani?
01:02:44Well then we'll have to arrest him. Look, we don't need a communist in this country but if we have one I'm going to be
01:02:50watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation. We send him money, we send him all the things that he needs to run a government.
01:03:00My colleague Pranay is with me on this story. Pranay, New York City's mayoral Democratic nominee Zoran Mamdani's rise has actually shaken many in the United States including the U.S. President Donald Trump.
01:03:13Ashwarya, this has a lot to do with the New York politics as well because Zoran Mamdani who is slated to become the new mayor of New York and also Donald Trump who hails from that city.
01:03:24So that's why they are locking on the ICE policies because if you see the previous references of Donald Trump, he mentioned many times about the New York City, how New York has become.
01:03:34But this is going to be serious if President Donald Trump uses his executive power and takes action against.
01:03:40Because New York City and New York as a state as well, it has been traditionally a blue state and that's why there's a lot of base for Zoran Mamdani and the Democratic Party.
01:03:50President Donald Trump is taking on the left and the liberal leadership and Democratic Party and this is going to pan out in an ugly fight if this continues.
01:04:00But we have to see how Zoran Mamdani can execute what he is saying that he is going to obstruct the ICE actions because we have seen how things spanned out in California, in L.A.
01:04:13There were recently the cases of riots as well. So, you know, there has to be, administration needs to handle it very carefully because it involves life, it involves like, you know, the government procedures as well as far as the crackdown on the immigrants, illegal immigrants are concerned.
01:04:30Thank you for giving us those details. It is the U.S. President Donald Trump also who hails from New York. We are seeing this battle now playing out in front of our eyes from the United States of America.
01:04:41We are seeing this battle now.
