Ganjam Police have arrested ten youths from the Hinjilicut area in connection with the alleged gang rape of a young woman near Gopalpur Beach in Ganjam district, Odisha.The shocking incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening when the woman, accompanied by her male friend, was targeted by the accused.According to sources, the accused initially threatened the duo by clicking their pictures and extorting money through cash and UPI transactions. Despite their pleas, the woman’s friend was allegedly assaulted, while some of the attackers dragged the woman aside and raped her before fleeing the scene.Following the victim’s complaint at the Gopalpur police station, Ganjam police launched an immediate investigation. A medical examination of the survivor was conducted, and efforts to establish the sequence of events are ongoing. Two of the accused attempted to flee to another state but were intercepted and arrested by a special police team.While the police have apprehended all ten suspects, senior officials have yet to release an official statement regarding further developments in the case. The incident has sparked outrage, reigniting concerns over women’s safety in public spaces.Revenue Minister Suresh Pujhari and Gopalpur MLA and Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena said that all culprits are arrested and strict action will be taken against them as per law, so that nobody will dare to do such a crime in the future.
