The first day of July struck the Southeast with widespread thunderstorms that piled rain on top of rain from the day before, creating a serious flooding risk.
Transcript
00:00This cold front that's sweeping its way across the southeast is as you can see kicking off
00:03multiple severe thunderstorm warnings here across the region. So let's take a closer look here first
00:08at Virginia and North Carolina. That's where we had a few isolated severe thunderstorm warnings.
00:13All the warnings have since been allowed to expire but the yellow boxes you see on this map
00:17those are severe thunderstorm warnings but whenever you look at those little green and
00:21teal boxes that pop up those are for flood warnings. So we're going to start to see more
00:25flood warnings populating this map here going forward. On down the line here for the state of
00:30Georgia we have had some severe thunderstorm warnings to the south of the Atlanta metro.
00:34You can see right there in Atlanta here earlier today the ball game out there they had to cover
00:38up the not the dugout what's that called the infield they had to cover up the infield because
00:43of the rainfall moving in. So yeah we're going to see some widespread showers across this region
00:47but as of right now the severe thunderstorm warnings have expired in the state of Georgia so that's
00:52some good news. Zooming out here and going over towards Alabama you can see the strongest storms
00:57right now continuing into Montgomery. Right now so Montgomery's about to see some very strong storms
01:02pushing their way into town right now. We're going to see blinding rainfall flooding rainfall moving in
01:07so heads up for that and you're seeing that video right there on the right hand side of your screen
01:11that was from the flooding rainfall from yesterday's storm so we're going to see more flooding
01:16pushing its way into Montgomery here as we have throughout this afternoon and this evening
01:19and then as we go to Mississippi Jackson has had a pretty rough go at it as well. We've seen some
01:25strong storms working the way through Jackson. Now as these storms continue to work their way off
01:28to the south they are slowly losing some intensity but we'll be continuing to track that trend here
01:33as we head into this evening and then along the Gulf Coast we had a severe thunderstorm warning there
01:37for Gulfport along the I-10 corridor but once again the severe thunderstorm warnings have been replaced
01:42by flood warnings so that's going to be the trend we are tracking as we head into tonight.
