00:00For the New York Mets, Clay Holmes has two pivotal starts.
00:04One is against Freddie Peralta and the Milwaukee Brewers,
00:07and the other is against Max Freed and the New York Yankees.
00:10Now both are at home at Citi Field.
00:13Joe, what are you doing here?
00:17You know, Clay Holmes is one, too, that you start to worry about.
00:20Are we hitting that innings wall with him where he is just not looking quite as sharp?
00:25If you look at Clay Holmes' stats here in the last couple games,
00:28a good start against Atlanta where he got the W, went five innings,
00:33but he did walk four guys in that start.
00:35He walked six guys in the start before that against Atlanta,
00:38so he's got 12 walks in his last three outings.
00:40That does not make me feel good.
00:42I know the Yankee offense has been a little underwhelming recently,
00:44but considering you're going up against Freed and Peralta,
00:47I know the Mets are a really good team.
00:49They're a first-place caliber team, great theoretical offense.
00:52I can't do it.
00:53To me, I'm sitting him, and I'm also looking ahead
00:56and trying to see where we're at with the innings for this guy, too,
00:59because he is already, this season, at 88 innings pitched.
01:05Now, he hasn't gone over 70 innings in a season since 2021,
01:09so that's a long time.
01:11Last two years, actually, last three years,
01:13he capped out at 63 regular season innings,
01:16and then obviously some post-season innings for the Yankees.
01:20But Clay Holmes could be at a point where maybe you skip him in a turn here.
01:24I don't know what their plan is around the all-star break with Clay Holmes
01:27because maybe he does go to the bullpen at some point, too,
01:31depending on what you acquire here or what your rotation looks like.
01:34Mania, Montas, you know, those guys returning.
01:37You get Senga back.
01:38That's three spots.
01:39I don't think David Peterson comes out.
01:41So who is that final starter for the Mets?
01:43So when everything is healthy and everything is right,
01:46and this is without another addition of a big-time arm,
01:48which I still think is coming,
01:50you could be in a scenario where this is the peak value of Clay Holmes.
01:53You might want to look to ship him off,
01:54especially if you can't start him in a two-start week this week.
01:57When are you going to feel good again?
01:58Again, I don't like the walks.
02:00It's a sign of fatigue to me, and maybe you're seeing that.
02:02Maybe he gets a little bump in the all-star break, and he's better,
02:05maybe a little breather, and that's cool.
02:07But I don't know, Matt.
02:08Again, we're asking a guy to go from 60 innings to 160 innings,
02:12and I think that's a lot to ask.
