00:00Maddie Healy makes a subtle reference to ex-Taylor Swift.

00:03While performing at the Glastonbury Festival in England on June 27th,

00:07the frontman for the 1975 caused the ears of Taylor Swift fans to perk up

00:11when he made what seemed to be a sarcastic reference to the singer,

00:14whom he briefly dated in early 2023.

00:17Maddie said in footage captured by Variety,

00:20I want to be sincere for a second with everybody.

00:22What this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best.

00:25I'm probably the best songwriter of my generation.

00:28Dropping a potential reference to Taylor's The Tortured Poet's Department album,

00:31he continued,

00:32The best, what do we say? A poet, ladies and gentlemen, is what I am.

00:36The musician also referred to himself as a generational wordsmith

00:40while teething up his band's next performance.

00:43Maddie shared while drinking from a pint glass,

00:45I just want to remind you for the next couple of minutes,

00:48these lyrics, this poetry I bleed for you.

00:50While the singer didn't reference Taylor by name while on stage,

00:53his self-identification as a poet certainly seemed like a callback

00:56to her 2024 song inspired by their relationship.

00:59But that wasn't the only reason Maddie's Glastonbury show

01:02raised eyebrows for Swifties.

01:04Fans also noticed he was wearing a pin featuring Peter Pan,

01:07a character he has used in the past to describe himself,

01:10as well as one that Taylor used to reference her lover

01:12in the Tortured Poets Department track, Peter,

01:15which fans believe is about Maddie.

01:17Eight months before The Rocker's poet comments,

01:19he again prompted fans to wonder if he took a dig at the singer

01:22during an interview about the inspirations for his music.

01:25Maddie said on an October episode of the Doomscroll podcast,

01:28I would just be lying if I made a record about all the stuff

01:31that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons,

01:34or whatever it may be that I've become known for,

01:36just because I was famous.

01:37He continued,

01:38I think that a lot of artists become very interested in their lore,

01:42or they become interested in the things that have happened

01:44outside of their art that people know about,

01:46and they want to address that, and fair enough.

01:48However, as Maddie concluded,

01:50I think that that's an obvious thing to draw from.

01:52I'm just not interested in it.

01:53While fans believe a few of Taylor's songs are inspired by Maddie,

01:57they also feel the same is true about her other ex,

01:59Joe Owen.
