00:00He may have been lost after Kyle's death, but the ring still found him.
00:04Here's a look at McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse, the Red Platinum Edition, Red Lantern, Guy Gardner.
00:30Guy took across this Red Lantern ring and joined a new corps where he could channel his anger.
00:37He later returned to life as a Green Lantern.
00:40I don't know if that's plastic I'm smelling or is it napalm?
00:43Either way, though, let's take the tape measure and see how tall the Red Lantern Guy Gardner stands,
00:47which essentially is going to be using the same body as the previous Green Lantern Guy Gardner we've already had a look at.
00:52With that in mind, of course, the figure is going to still stand the same.
00:55He's seven inches in height, or the figure is going to be 18 centimeters tall.
01:00If you had hoped that they would have used a different mold, don't.
01:02Because, of course, they're only going to use the same one as the Guy Gardner we've already gotten before.
01:06Same mold, different deco.
01:08I don't have a Trostus, so he can't really be the one that gives the ring then to Guy Gardner.
01:12But I do have the closest thing that ends in Ossidis.
01:15Here's what the figure looks like with that Trostus, the only Red Lantern I think I have in my collection with his mold.
01:20The accessories stay the same.
01:21The only thing that's going to be done differently a little bit is the paint scheme that they've done, of course, to his face sculpts.
01:26And that instead of having a Green Lantern, he has a red one instead.
01:28But before we look at these things over here, we'll look at this thing over here.
01:32The figure first does come include with a display stand.
01:35Just to bring in, though, Guy Gardner's display stand, because, again, he was also a McFarlane Collector's Edition.
01:40He had a silver logo down below in DC.
01:42This one also has it as well.
01:44It's the exact same.
01:45The figure does also come include with a trading card.
01:47Now, the trading card is, though, using a different costume for Red Lantern Guy Gardner.
01:52This is something that changes a lot in the comics.
01:54Guy Gardner's actually had several different costume changes.
01:56I do hope that down the road we eventually get this version of Guy Gardner, even though, really, this one still is canon.
02:03In fact, DC Direct, years ago, released this same costume of Guy Gardner when he was the Red Lantern.
02:09So at least it's not just the case that McFarlane toys just painted over an existing mold, which, again, in some sense that they did.
02:15But at least this costume is correct.
02:17Though it's different, though, on the front, what's also different, too, is that you've also got McFarlane Collector's Edition stamped, printed down the side.
02:24And on the back, it's probably one of the shortest read-ups I've ever done here on this channel.
02:27His real name is Guy Gardner.
02:28I mean, I could even just read this again.
02:30Guy took Atrocitus Red Lantern Ring and joined a new core, where he could channel his anger.
02:35He later returned to life as a Green Lantern.
02:37Boy, that didn't take any time at all.
02:39It's a nice-looking card.
02:40I'm going to be putting it along with the rest of my trading cards and my trading card sheets.
02:45On to now the things that come and clue with Guy Gardner.
02:47Yeah, more of the same.
02:49So the figure does have, first of all, a Red Lantern.
02:51Let's just grab guys from before.
02:53Same casting, different plastic that they're casting it in.
02:56What's interesting, though, is that with the Green Lantern, they've actually got it lit up, where the Red Lantern, unfortunately, doesn't have that.
03:03I don't know if I would go back and look at the comics again just to see if that is the case.
03:07Adding, though, just a little bit of paint.
03:09I think could have just given some Lantern life.
03:12Still, as though the exact same.
03:13One thing that's kind of interesting, too, is that the Lantern for the Green Lantern release of Guy Gardner seems a little gummier.
03:19Whereas the one that we get here, maybe it's just the type of plastic that they're using, the Red Lantern seems a little bit more rigid.
03:25Still, it can be held in his hand.
03:27Right now he does have a C-clamp hand on this side.
03:29He's got a close fist on the other.
03:31That can then be swapped out, though.
03:33The figure does also have a gestured hand.
03:36And he's got a pointing hand.
03:37Now, you'll know right away, you don't even have to follow the rule of thumb.
03:41The side that has the Lantern ring will be, of course, on this side of the figure's body.
03:45Everything that doesn't have one will go on this side.
03:48So he's got a pointing hand.
03:49He's also got himself a gripping hand.
03:51So realistically, you could have a gripping hand on both his sides.
03:54And then you could just decide which side you'd like to have him holding.
03:57The Lantern.
03:58By the way, though, the Lantern does fit in his hands.
04:00These Lanterns never really sit straight.
04:02Every time I feel like I'm putting one into his hand, whether it be Guy or not, you put
04:07it in, for example.
04:08I put it in and I'm struggling why I'm doing this.
04:11And it always just kind of never really sits centered.
04:14You kind of have to just balance it just a bit.
04:17But you can see like he holds it fine.
04:19Other things, though, that come include Guy Gardner.
04:21Now, what's rather interesting, though, is he only has one hair portrait.
04:25Wait, a hair portrait?
04:26Well, if you remember, though, when we had the look of the other Guy Gardner, unless I
04:30missed something inside the tray, this one only has the brush cut.
04:33This one also had the bowl cut, but could, though, be swapped out.
04:37Basically, just pull this piece off.
04:40Pull this piece off.
04:41Maybe it'll be easier to do it on this side.
04:42Pull it off.
04:43And you could, in theory, swap it back to the way it looked when you got it first out of
04:46the packaging.
04:47I actually like this look a little bit more, especially considering that this one only has
04:51this hairstyle.
04:53Well, probably we'll end up displaying the Green Lantern with this hair.
04:56And then the Red Lantern is going to have this one.
04:59So let's just peel that off.
05:01By the way, these just plug in place.
05:03I mean, two, being that they're also using the exact same mold, it'd be safe to also
05:06make the assumption that you could just peel that off and give them the bowl hairstyle.
05:11Well, the bowl hairstyle would be over there.
05:12All the faces and all the hairs being that, again, same head.
05:16Same swappability, too.
05:18This figure does also have a couple of swappable faces.
05:21Now, with the faces that he gets, if you're looking at the one, let's find like for like
05:25here.
05:26Like for like.
05:27So we got a regular Guy Gardner face that would have had the eyes.
05:30Yeah, see, he's got the smirk.
05:31And then we've got the Red Lantern version of that.
05:34His skin is a little lighter, a little more purple in color.
05:37But most notably, he also has the red outlined white eyes.
05:40Would they be white?
05:41I guess they're a little bit closer to being pink.
05:42Same faces.
05:44And let's grab the other one here.
05:45And then you've also got these two same faces.
05:49So they're exactly the same.
05:51Kind of interesting, though, is when you look at the head that they end up packaging the
05:54figure with, it's kind of the yelling face.
05:58Yet when you start to add these monstrous things on him, like all the like red that's
06:02dripping out of his mouth, I don't suspect it's blood.
06:04It's probably just rage.
06:06Just rage.
06:07Somehow, though, you take something that seems more jovial, like he's just cracking jokes.
06:11And now it looks like he wants to rip out your soul.
06:14Of course, if you did want to change out the faces, you just go ahead and pry the face off.
06:17Take the face that you want to use.
06:19So let's just grab this one here for right now.
06:21That just plugs in place.
06:23I didn't notice, though, that the faces seem like they're looser to stay on.
06:26I mean, they still stay fine.
06:28But I feel like if I bang this, I'm not going to do it right now, just in case I drop the
06:33face.
06:33But I feel like this comes off a lot easier.
06:36Again, if you want to go with that one, there's that.
06:38Where's the other one?
06:39Where's the other one?
06:39It's also this one, too.
06:41The smirking adds a new element to his fear, just because, again, like you start to give
06:44him a smirk and then you realize there's nothing, there's not something not quite right
06:48with him, which I guess would be normally the territory we cover with Guy Gardner.
06:52It's not really always something right with this guy.
06:54I think overall, though, I think I'm going to be displaying this guy probably with the
06:58smirk, which I guess would be the face that I have right now.
07:01I think this is just a little too monstrous.
07:03Entirely up to you, though.
07:05Obviously, for the rest of the figure's body, they're going to be exactly the same.
07:08So he has that high collar jacket on.
07:10The jacket did seem like it's a little harder of a plastic than the original Guy Gardner.
07:15I felt, well, maybe they're about the same.
07:17Maybe they are about the same.
07:18Yet, while they're all clearly using just the same mold, they have at least gone in there
07:22and painted it differently.
07:24Some in the comics, though, sometimes when you see in the comics, this would actually
07:27be just on fire.
07:28Like you'd have these flames coming out from this cymbal section here.
07:32Unfortunately, they wouldn't be able to pull that off.
07:34So what they've done only instead is just painted the lines in.
07:37You've got the red lantern cymbal then in the middle, which is, again, a little bit different
07:41than the green lantern cymbal.
07:42And it's also a little bit larger, too.
07:45I couldn't help but notice, though, it's not a perfect circle.
07:47It seems like it's a little more of an oval shape.
07:49It seems like it's even more stretched.
07:52But I think the paint's okay.
07:53I mean, the paint's pretty close to what they've done here for the legs.
07:56While the legs, though, being molded in the red plastic, they've matched it somewhat okay.
08:01I think it's pretty close.
08:02Got some cymbals there on the side as well.
08:04They're a little bit darker in red.
08:05I wish they were just as bright as they were on the front of his torso.
08:08He also has some decent paint handled here on the back and along his belt there as well.
08:13Now, some really, I mean, look at a figure like this and think to themselves, well, I really
08:16have really a guy gardener.
08:17Or do I really need to get my hands on a red lantern?
08:19It really depends how much you like the lore.
08:21If you like red lanterns, I think Guy Gardner is a good suitable choice for that.
08:25Being, again, that he's also a McFarlane Collector's Edition means that he also gets a few extra
08:29faces there, too.
08:30So it's not just the case that you're buying.
08:32I mean, I guess, too, you could also use the face on the more creepier looking faces.
08:35Or you can even just use a regular human face, like from Guy from before.
08:39The articulation on this guy, obviously, is going to be the exact same, too.
08:42Head's going to be on a ball joint.
08:43Allows the head to, of course, rotate all the way around.
08:46This makes a little bit more sense, the fact that he's now a red lantern.
08:50And, of course, you can rotate that.
08:51You can move the head up and down, and you can also rock it back and forth.
08:55Upper torso is going to be on a good ball joint.
08:57This whole section is all hard.
08:59I said softer plastic.
09:00It's a little softer than your, like, hard plastic for the arms.
09:03But there's enough, though, obviously, to give.
09:06You can rotate the torso all the way around.
09:08As for his arms, they rotate easily enough.
09:10You can bring those arms out at T-pose, 90-degree angle bend for those.
09:14You can also swivel at the elbow, or swivel at the elbow.
09:16Swivel at the bicep right there.
09:19This arm I didn't notice as loose.
09:21This arm, I don't know why, is super loose.
09:23It's not going to cause any problems, really.
09:25It's not like he has to hold himself up a bag of flour.
09:28But it's a little loose in the bicep.
09:29Double hinge on the elbow.
09:30Doesn't seem to be loose there.
09:31Swivel in the hands, those rotate all the way around.
09:34Hinge them back and forth.
09:36As for his legs, the legs, once again, are on ratcheted joints.
09:39They split out a far, very far splits.
09:42Just put him down here for a second.
09:43Guy Gardner also had that before.
09:44Why do we keep doing this?
09:45Torturing the poor guy.
09:47The legs go, obviously, forward.
09:49You can bring them back, too.
09:50There's a nice swivel there at the top of the thigh.
09:52Double hinge on the knee.
09:54His boot, actually, doesn't have any swiveling.
09:58Now that I think about it, though, actually,
09:59I don't think the original Guy Gardner had that either, no.
10:01Just that they've painted the boots.
10:03Probably molded the calf as one piece from here to here,
10:06and then gone in there and painted the boots.
10:09Same thing here with the red lantern.
10:10There's no swiveling there.
10:12There is some nice additional decos on the fronts of the boots,
10:14and also there on the tops of his feet as well.
10:17His feet do move up and down.
10:19There's a nice little ankle rocker.
10:21And Guy Gardner, like before, does have pegles,
10:23or does have hinges, I should say,
10:26on the ends of his toes.
10:27Ends of his toes.
10:29Yeah, you know, I like the look of this Guy Gardner.
10:30I mean, obviously, in the end,
10:31it's just the same Guy Gardner,
10:33just with a different paint scheme.
10:34But being that he at least has this look in the comics,
10:37even though he's changed his costume a couple of times,
10:40and that, you know, even go back further,
10:43from even before McFarlane had this license,
10:45at one point there was also a DC Direct
10:47that had this exact same costume.
10:49I think the only thing that was a little bit different
10:50is that the symbol, I think,
10:51was a little further to the side.
10:53But same look, same jacket,
10:55same bright, kind of pinkish red pants.
10:58I like the look of this Guy Gardner.
11:00I'm kind of glad that I had the chance to pick him up,
11:01because up to that point,
11:03my Red Lanterns were really outnumbered.
11:04I had, like, Bat Trostis,
11:06just, I think I was probably the only Red Lantern figure
11:08that I had in my collection.
11:09I hope that that does change.
11:11And what a better suitable character candidate
11:14for being a Red Lantern, like Guy Gardner.
11:16Guy Gardner is also, as a Red Lantern,
11:18one of the only few that still maintained his intelligence.
11:21While most of the time they have been just filled with rage
11:24and had the ring consume them,
11:25Guy Gardner still really was able to maintain his intellect,
11:29his ability to still think things out.
11:31Didn't mean he was a threat.
11:34He certainly still was a threat,
11:36but he knew what he was doing
11:37the whole time he was doing it.
11:38Add yet another figure to my list of,
11:40I can't find these figures in local stores.
11:42Though as a Canadian collector,
11:43my list of places I can go to is very small.
11:47I have a GameStop.
11:48GameStops tend to not have a whole lot in their stores.
11:50They have a whole lot more, it seems, online.
11:53Then I've got my Walmarts.
11:54They have next to nothing.
11:55And then Toys R Us.
11:56You know, we could have always said, as a Canadian,
11:58we could brag that we had Toys R Us stores
12:00when maybe the U.S. Toys R Uses were shut down.
12:03I don't even know if Toys R Uses are back in the U.S.
12:05I can tell you, though,
12:07Canadian Toys R Us stores are now starting to close down.
12:10Bad news for us.
12:11Even though, like, I have four stores somewhat in my area.
12:15Two of those four have closed.
12:17I think one store is currently in the process of closing.
12:19And then the one that still remains open
12:21has next to nothing.
12:22Nothing at all when it comes to current stuff.
12:25So, like, at least I can fall back to my go-to,
12:28it seems, as of late, the Facebook selling groups.
12:30And luckily, again, Popeye the Toy Man
12:32seems to be the guy I'm always going now to
12:34for a lot of my DC Multiverse figures.
12:36He did have at least the Red Lantern Guy Gardener,
12:38one that I did want to add to my current collection.
12:41And he was selling for a decent price.
12:42So, here we...
12:43This is what brought us to the dance right now.
12:45Guy Gardener, though, I can understand
12:47why some would look at this as simply just a repaint.
12:49And, you know, it is.
12:50I mean, we're not going to dodge around the truth,
12:52the fact that this figure is just a variant repaint
12:55of the original Guy Gardener.
12:56The thing I like, though, at least about this,
12:58is that with these figures having now,
13:00in this case, swappable hairs,
13:02even though, surprisingly enough,
13:02like the Red Lantern Guy Gardener doesn't have it,
13:05but with swappable hairs and swappable faces,
13:07even though, again, like from the top to the bottom,
13:09they are using the same mold.
13:11There's enough at least you can change to the figure
13:13that they look different from one another.
13:15I'm just looking now at the side of Guy Gardener's face.
13:18I don't think his face is completely on there.
13:20I do like the color scheme.
13:21I think the colors work quite well.
13:23And that he also comes with the Red Lantern,
13:25which is using, again, like the same mold
13:27as the Green Lantern Guy Gardener,
13:28though the plastic seems a little harder
13:31on that Lantern instead.
13:32Yeah, all in all, I'm happy that I finally had the chance
13:34to add this one to my collection.
13:36If you guys did want to check out
13:38what Popeye the Toyman has currently now for his listings,
13:41I can provide the link down below in the video description.
13:43What do you guys think of Red Lantern Guy Gardener?
13:45Overlooking, obviously, that this guy is just a repaint.
13:48Do you think at least it's a repaint
13:50that's justifying picking him up,
13:52adding him to your collection?
13:53Or do you just think it's a pass?
13:54If you guys also did enjoy this video,
