00:00I wonder if Todd spent the budget and made that mace out of real nth metal.
00:04Here's a look at the brand of McFarlane toys.
00:05DC Multiverse, McFarlane's Collector's Edition, Justice League of America, Hawkgirl.
00:30Using the power of nth metal, Kendra Saunders is Hawkgirl, one of the Justice League's newest recruits.
00:35Having no trouble standing shoulder to shoulder with giants, Hawkgirl's fighting spirit and determination has made her feared throughout the galaxy.
00:43Despite having this weight on the back of her body, Saunders still stands okay.
00:47In fact, she actually does come in clear with the display stand, but before we look at all the things that come in clear with the figure,
00:51let's take, of course, the tape measure and see how tall the brand new Justice League of America Hawkgirl stands.
00:56One that I've definitely been looking forward to getting.
00:58I actually found this on the Facebook selling group from, yeah, you would guess it, Popeye the Toyman.
01:04If we don't count the wings and only count her head, Hawkgirl's going to stand at 7 inches in height, or roughly 18 centimeters tall.
01:12One of my big regrets was the fact I never got myself the variant edition of Hawkman.
01:16Now, this is the Hawkman that was part of the McFarlane Collector's Edition,
01:20but of course the colors don't really jive if you like the classic look of the characters.
01:24One thing I really do like about the new look of Hawkgirl is she keeps kind of the classic looking colors of the yellow and the green.
01:30Same, though, couldn't be said for the regular version, like I said, of this Hawkman.
01:34I do hope that down the road we get ourselves a new release of him,
01:37because if we're going to get a new Hawkgirl, you'd like to think we're going to get a new Hawkman.
01:40Bring in some other figures as well.
01:42I know what quarters are getting kind of tight just because, again, you've got capes, you've got wings.
01:46Here's what the figure looks like, not only with Batman.
01:48Let's bring in Deadman.
01:49And just recently, we also looked at Wildcat.
01:52As for Hawkgirl's accessories, yeah, the figure first does come clear with a display stand,
01:57because, of course, this is also the McFarlane Collector's Edition.
01:59I'm having such a hard time getting that out.
02:01Frills get afforded.
02:02We now get a DC logo done in silver instead of just a black.
02:06To the far corner from that, in walking distance,
02:08there's also a peg that can plug into either one of Hawkgirl's boots.
02:11You can't plug them into both.
02:13You have two boots.
02:14You have one peg.
02:15Two minus one gives us then one left behind boots.
02:18Let's move that off to the side.
02:19Boy, that is simple math.
02:20Then we get, of course, ourselves a trading card.
02:23Now, the trading card is McFarlane Collector's Edition, branded down the side.
02:27Actually, you know what?
02:27Let's bring in Hawkgirls, or Hawkmans, as well.
02:30I guess I could really technically put these together in my sheet protectors, my trading card sheets.
02:36Unfortunately, though, truth be told, I've actually had this one sitting inside of a bag.
02:39That's basically where Hawkman's been relegated this whole time.
02:42I don't know if even he's been able to breathe.
02:44He's been probably suffocating this whole time.
02:47But yeah, I'm probably now going to be, well, now that I've got the reminder to put this probably in a proper trading card sheet,
02:52hopefully this isn't going to be the end result of what we're going to be getting in Hawkgirl.
02:55Hopefully both the cards will be flat.
02:57This is not going to be flat.
02:58This one at least is.
02:59He's talking too much about trading cards.
03:01On the back, by the way, of the trading card, the real name is Kendra Saunders.
03:06I guess similar to Colonel Saunders.
03:07I don't think she's dealing in chicken, though.
03:09Her debut, though, is Justice Society of America's Secret Files and Origins, number one, August 1999.
03:16Just the cusp before we get to the year 2000.
03:19So I guess right around there would have been, you know, Y2K.
03:22Everybody was, like, dreading about, well, I guess August.
03:23We still would have had time to kind of worry and panic.
03:26Is it going to be the end of the world when we get to New Year's Eve?
03:29And, of course, you've got yourself a paragraph read.
03:31Basically just telling us, though, that she's the newest member.
03:33She's more the rookie.
03:34But nice little card.
03:35And, you know, again, I always appreciate when, again, 2, also, that we use source material.
03:39We don't use figure photography, which doesn't seem to be the case, but they haven't done that for a while.
03:44Then on to Hermes.
03:45Now, Hermes is made of nth metal.
03:47I can tell you, though, just by the weight alone, it's not made of nth metal.
03:50It's made of plastic.
03:51Bringing in a Hawkman's here.
03:52Not that size makes much of a difference, but you can clearly see, though, that Kendra's definitely has a much longer mace.
03:58I do actually like the color of the blue that they've used here as well.
04:01The handles, though, I'm not going to compare one to the other because, clearly, they're not using the exact same mold.
04:06Hawkman's, though, is a little bit more prickler.
04:07Hers is just for good for bashing in people's faces.
04:10I hope that she's not bashing in people's faces.
04:12But I love the color on that.
04:14Now, of course, she does have the means to hold that in her hand.
04:16Right now, if you get her out of the packaging, as it is right now, just kind of kind of the twist ties, not doing really much of anything.
04:21She already has a means on this side to hold the mace.
04:25However, though, if you want to do it on the flip side, the flip side, the figure does also come in clue with another gripping hand that's good for then over here, over here.
04:33The figure does also have a mirror flip to the closed fist.
04:36So if you want to have punching Hawkgirl, then you can easily then swap the hand on this side for a closed fist instead.
04:41If you like also a couple of gestured hands, she does also have those as well.
04:46I mean, it's fine and good for the person behind the camera just to be talking about these things.
04:49I'm sure you guys would actually want to see what they look like on her hands.
04:51So let's go and remove those hands.
04:54We're going to go ahead and just kind of pop this one off the peg.
04:58Find one of the gestured hands.
04:59That's the way I'm going to be going with this.
05:01That's how I'm going to be rolling.
05:02We're going to plug that onto the peg.
05:04Kind of twist it just to ensure that's in place.
05:06And now she's got herself a gestured hand and now she can have the mace hand on the other side.
05:11That's pretty cool.
05:13That's pretty much all the accessories that come in clue with Hawkgirl.
05:16With the one big exception is obviously the figure does also have these large wings.
05:20Now I've got her currently displayed with the wings, probably not best advised, on the back of her body, kind of folded in.
05:26If you wanted to really have her displayed with the wings kind of tucked back, like she's just walking around.
05:31I can't imagine she'd be able to fit through the hallways if the wings are fanned out like this.
05:35But you can't kind of tuck them back, like a seal.
05:39You basically just fold them back.
05:41They're on hinges, after all.
05:42So if you want to have them flat like that, that's fine.
05:45I prefer, again, if I'm going to have Hawkgirl not in flight pose, kind of want to really just arch these back as far as I can get them.
05:51Now granted, doing all that is going to add some unnecessary back weight.
05:55You're going to have a harder time to stand the figure.
05:57It's almost like she really does need a display stand.
06:01The wings do have pose ability, so again, you can move them forward and back this way.
06:05You can hinge them out if you want to have them fanned out like this.
06:09But also that these are separated pieces.
06:11Unlike, though, Hawkman, that unfortunately got relegated to only just single hinges.
06:15Now, with his wings, you could still move them forward.
06:18You can move them out.
06:19You can bend them back, too, if you wanted to.
06:20But there was no more that you could really do with the wings themselves.
06:23Hawkgirl, I shouldn't say unfortunately, Hawkgirl benefits from having actually a hinge.
06:28There's a peg right here.
06:30So you can take the wings and you can also fan them out.
06:33So obviously, that's going to take up a whole lot more space.
06:36People are probably going to feel a little more claustrophobic just because Hawkgirl's got her wings all surrounding them.
06:41But you can also go that route as well.
06:43I feel like we've seen these wings before.
06:45Anti-spawn, perhaps even the Joker, the Batman who laughs, may have also had very similar wings to this.
06:51I do like those.
06:52I think the wings are nice little touches.
06:54And I do think that they've added the nice frills of having these as poseable wings.
06:58Not just the single wings that Hawkman had over there.
07:01For the head sculpt, though, for Hawkgirl, classic look.
07:04Even though this is really a newer incarnation of Hawkgirl, she's had many different characters portray this role.
07:10I mean, I guess it would be the other way around.
07:11Other characters have taken up the mantle of being Hawkgirl.
07:15This is the newest one, or one of the newest ones.
07:17One thing I do really like is the way they've sculpted the cowl piece.
07:21Adding nice dark colors on the bottom here that kind of mimic that of feathers.
07:24I love that they've added gold eyes as well.
07:26Now, there is also a platinum, I think it's a platinum edition, or it was a gold platinum edition.
07:31I can't even keep track anymore.
07:32But there's one of Hawkgirl that looks like this, just in darker, more modern colors.
07:37I didn't get that one yet.
07:38I still probably have plans to pick that one up.
07:40I think I like more the green and the yellow, just because, again, for me,
07:44it evokes the classic look of the old days of Justice League, especially even like the cartoon of Hawkgirl,
07:49where she certainly took care of business.
07:52Now, again, the green works really well.
07:53Again, you've got that classic look of Hawkgirl where you've got the stripes down the front in the yellow.
07:58I think, though, it's a really nice touch that he went in there to actually sculpt the boots.
08:01Now, they could have so easily just made these completely smooth,
08:04but texturing it adds a little bit of extra love.
08:07Of course, she does also have the belt there on the front.
08:09There's a little tiny hawk symbol.
08:11For a second, it looks like the Thundercat symbol.
08:13No, she's not part of the Thundercat.
08:14She probably, if anything, would be attacked by the Thundercats,
08:17because cats love birds.
08:20They've also added nice silver in their gauntlets, on the bicep gauntlets there as well,
08:24sculpting some really nice brown there on her gauntlets on her hands,
08:27which actually is pretty close and brown to what she has on her belt.
08:30Like, as a whole, it's a really nice-looking Hawkgirl.
08:33The only thing I have issue-wise when it comes to the figure
08:36isn't so much the fact that she's back-heavy,
08:37because, you know, that goes with the territory of,
08:39if you get any figure that has a cape, that has wings,
08:42you know to expect that when you're going to be putting them on the shelf,
08:44they're not going to have an easy time to stand.
08:46They're not going to be as easy like as,
08:48or even like, like as Black, not Black Cat, as Wildcat.
08:52Wildcat didn't have any wings.
08:53I mean, not that we're drawing attention.
08:55I probably even shouldn't have these two together anyways,
08:57because that's, again, a cat, a bird.
08:59I can't imagine the two mix all that well.
09:02But with Hawkgirl,
09:03it isn't so much the issue that she has the wings.
09:05My big issue really comes when it comes to the articulation of the figure.
09:09So if we look at, like, her head, for example,
09:11this isn't, by the way, the issue.
09:13She has a ball joint,
09:13and yeah, you couldn't rotate her head all the way around.
09:17The head can look down quite low,
09:19and it can also look up high too.
09:21So if you want to get yourself a flight stand for the figure,
09:23even though one doesn't come included with her,
09:25you can get her in a pretty high pose.
09:27You can also arch her torso back as well.
09:29No, that's not the issue.
09:31That's not the issue at all.
09:31So there's a bit of a rock there too.
09:33My concern, though, comes really with the arms.
09:35It isn't so much the fact that they don't move,
09:37but what unfortunately is the case,
09:39because they've added this cup socket,
09:42so basically what it is,
09:43is this peg plugs into her torso,
09:45and then to separate that,
09:47so you're not looking at a big,
09:48very obvious gap where the peg is going to be plugged in,
09:51they put these little cup pieces.
09:53The cup is supposed to conceal the joint.
09:55Unfortunately, though,
09:56sometimes when you are moving the joint out,
09:57and it's not doing it right now,
09:59but sometimes what ends up resulting is
10:01it leaves this big gap space right there.
10:04These are loose too.
10:05I mean, I keep kind of pushing them back in,
10:09and when I do feel like they're all the way in,
10:11the moment I go to start to move the arm again,
10:13yeah, again, like you kind of see the way that they,
10:16not, no, there we go.
10:17See, right there.
10:18I mean, this is something where you might find yourself
10:20moving the arms for Hawkgirl,
10:21then taking these and just plugging them back in place.
10:25This is a small thing.
10:26It's a small criticism.
10:28Not that it ruins the figure,
10:29but it's certainly something that you find yourself
10:30constantly aware that this is happening.
10:33Again, the arms move forward and back.
10:35If the wings were out of the way,
10:36technically the arms would be able to rotate
10:37all the way around.
10:38You get a T-pose easily enough.
10:40There's also a swivel in the bicep,
10:42double hinge on the elbow,
10:43and the hands rotate all the way around.
10:45Let's bring that arm down.
10:47Upper torso is going to be, yes, on a ball joint.
10:49Further from that,
10:50there's also a ball joint in the abdomen area.
10:52Does the exact same thing,
10:53just a little bit lower down.
10:55Legs do split out.
10:56No problems there.
10:57You can take the legs and move forward,
10:58move them back.
11:00There's a swivel,
11:00a very good swivel at the top of the thigh.
11:02There's also a double hinge on the knee.
11:04There is no articulation.
11:06I was actually kind of expecting this
11:08to have some articulation down below for the boots,
11:10but it doesn't seem to be the case.
11:12You can sure enough rock the ankle up and down.
11:14You can move it also back and forth this way.
11:16And Hawkgirl does also have toe articulation as well.
11:19As mentioned already,
11:20there is also a,
11:21I think it's a gold,
11:22gold label collection.
11:23No,
11:23no,
11:24I think it's a red platinum edition.
11:25I can't even keep track of these things anymore.
11:27There's a red platinum edition of Hawkgirl
11:28that is essentially this same mold.
11:31What it is though differently
11:32is that she also has more of the darker colors.
11:34So if you don't really like this look of Hawkgirl,
11:36I'm not even going to fight with this.
11:37I'm going to get her on a display stand.
11:39If you don't like necessarily the classic look of the colors,
11:41you can always go the route of the darker colors instead.
11:45If I might find myself still getting that Hawkgirl,
11:47it does remind me though,
11:49I do really want to get myself another version of Hawkman.
11:52I mean,
11:52not that he's really high on my list,
11:54but I mean,
11:54if we're kind of building now the classic league,
11:57I kind of would like to get like more of the colors,
11:59kind of mimicking that of Hawkgirl here for Hawkman.
12:02I mean,
12:02this Hawkman was fine.
12:03There was also a variant of him as well,
12:04but he was going for such stupid money.
12:08I didn't want to pay that price online.
12:09So what I ended up doing was I just really got the one I was able to find
12:12and then the one I found really wasn't the Hawkman that I really wanted in my collection.
12:17Still though,
12:17it's going to be a stand-in until eventually we get ourselves a new Hawkman.
12:21I'd like to hope though that as we got ourselves a new Hawkgirl,
12:24not that far from that,
12:25we will eventually get ourselves a Hawkman,
12:27maybe better looking wings,
12:28more poseable wings,
12:29and more of the classic colors,
12:31more of the familiar colors that I'm used to
12:33when I think of either character.
12:34Actually,
12:34if I could correct myself,
12:35it's really the platinum edition of Hawkgirl that has more of the Silver Age roots.
12:39It's going to be the same mold and the same figure,
12:41but instead of having kind of the sandier brown cowl that we get with this release,
12:45she has more of the traditional orange cowl.
12:48Instead of having the gray wings that we see here,
12:50she's going to have more brown wings,
12:52and she's going to have an all yellow top.
12:54See,
12:54this one has green on the sides of the top of her torso.
12:57The other one is actually going to have a yellow top that goes all the way down to a yellow belt,
13:01red trunks,
13:03and it's going to have the same green legs.
13:04The legs seem to be exactly the same.
13:06Maybe they might even have a slightly lighter green,
13:09but I think really looking at this one and looking at the platinum edition,
13:12I'm happy that I got the regular version a little bit more.
13:15While,
13:15yes,
13:15I do like Silver Age characters,
13:17especially now that we're kind of getting a lot more of them with the multiverse releases,
13:21but looking at this Hawkgirl,
13:22I think it's the better use of the mold.
13:24And while again,
13:25like the mold is exactly the same,
13:26I think the pain is handled better on this release.
13:29It's not to say though,
13:30I'm still not going to probably track down that Hawkgirl
13:31with only again,
13:33the fingers crossed that eventually we get ourselves a Justice League of America Hawkman.
13:37I would imagine it's probably going to be using a completely different mold.
13:39That other Hawkman was fine.
13:41It's still a good looking figure,
13:42but I think it's really a prime time that we get ourselves a better looking Hawkman
13:45to be displayed with a much superior looking Hawkgirl.
13:49What do you guys think of Hawkgirl?
13:50Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:51Have you had the chance to pick up this one or did you end up getting the Platinum Edition
13:55that has again,
13:56like the more traditional look of Hawkgirl,
13:58maybe from like the older days of the cartoons and the comics.
14:01If also you guys want to maybe pick this one up for yourself
14:04or check out some of the other things that are available right now,
