00:00Luckily, the toy industry didn't turn Todd cruel.
00:03It would have been cruel if Bats never had his butler.
00:06Here's a look at McFarlane toys.
00:07DC Multiverse, Batman v Superman, Alfred Pennyworth.
00:30The British Special Forces veteran is more than just Bruce Wayne's butler or Batman's confidant.
00:39Alfred is a second father to Wayne and serves as a conscience when his never-ending fight against evil wears on the Caped Crusader.
00:46Pennyworth keeps the Bat family together through his compassion and leadership.
00:51Knowing what Affleck's Batman was like, I'm sure the vichyssois wasn't the only thing that was cold in the cave.
00:56Before that, we get a closer look at Alfred...
00:58I know it's not really from the same movie.
01:00Before, though, we get a closer look at the Batman v Superman, Dawn of Justice, Alfred Pennyworth.
01:05Let's take the tape measure and let's see how tall the figure stands.
01:09Then, of course, we'll bring in a couple of Affleck Batmans in a second.
01:12Bat-fleck Batmans in a second.
01:14Alfred's going to stand at seven inches in height.
01:16He is.
01:17You can see for yourself.
01:19That works out to be a figure, though.
01:20It's 18 centimeters tall.
01:22Willing to bet that Pennyworth is allowed to say the name Martha when he's around this guy.
01:25Here's what the figure looks like with Ben Affleck's Batman.
01:28Initially, though, looking at the two figures like this, I thought the scaling was off.
01:32So I did a little Google searching.
01:34And sure enough, Ben Affleck is 6'4".
01:36I think we all kind of knew that.
01:37I had no idea.
01:39No idea that Jeremy Irons was 6'2".
01:42For some reason, I actually thought he was below 6 feet.
01:45So if you look at the two figures like this, is that about a 2-inch difference?
01:49I mean, obviously, 2-inch is a little bit bigger than that.
01:51But you would have to scale the size difference down to what a 7-inch scale figures would be.
01:57I guess that is about right.
01:59I mean, obviously, the sizing is completely off.
02:01Here's someone who's not allowed to say the name Martha.
02:03That's a big bad word.
02:04He is technically shorter.
02:07One of the reasons, also, I'm using a display stand is I couldn't get Cavill to stand properly.
02:12Henry Cavill, I think, is more 6'1".
02:13Only just by the way he's standing like this.
02:16Like, if I was to take Ben Affleck and put the Batman legs together, maybe he's just a little bit taller.
02:21I think a lot of it is maybe just the lift.
02:23A lot of it may also have to do with the fact I'm using a display stand.
02:26But here's what the figures look like when they're all together.
02:28Not only is he trying to fix Bruce, but he also tries to fix stuff.
02:31So Alfred does come included with a bunch of accessories.
02:33And he also comes included with an apron right over there.
02:36Before looking at those things, though, the figure does also come included with a display stand.
02:40Couldn't help but notice that a display stand, in my case,
02:42is a little lighter in color of black.
02:44But it does have the DC logo down below.
02:46And maybe by making it light like this, it's a little easier to make out the DC logo.
02:51Walking away from that, there's also the peg that can plug into either one of Alfred's feet.
02:56The figure does also come included with a trading card.
02:59Trading card, though, does have the trench coat version of Alfred.
03:03Which would be interesting because if they ever decide to release this version of Pennyworth,
03:08you could then use this body for other figures.
03:10Like, if you had the head of Bruce Wayne, you could just pop that on top of the...
03:13I'm speaking well in advance, even though we don't even have that figure yet.
03:17But that's basically what he would look like.
03:19I think that's outside of the Wayne Monument.
03:21You know, a little tribute for his parents.
03:22Then on the back, though, his real name is N.A.
03:25Now, I said this before, I think it was when we were looking at Lex Luthor, that they put
03:31the real name as N.A.
03:33It's not applicable.
03:35Technically, one person did point out that because their name is their name, Alfred Pennyworth,
03:40there's no real need to then put the real name as Alfred Pennyworth.
03:43But even though really it is on the top, though, I feel like still efforts should be made.
03:48Non-applicable sort of means that they're in hiding or they change their names or they're
03:52hiding a bigger secret.
03:53Alfred, I have no idea.
03:55But apparently that is the reason because, again, their name's on the top already.
03:58There's a paragraph read.
04:00Feel free to, you know, do your thing and read it if you'd like.
04:03But that's the trading card.
04:05Nice little trading card.
04:05We'll put that off to the side.
04:07Alfred does come include a whole bunch of swappable hands.
04:09Now, I wasn't really expecting him to have as many hands that he has.
04:14First of all, the figure does have a couple of close fists.
04:18You know, close fists.
04:20The figure does also have a couple of relaxed hands.
04:23They aren't even so much relaxed in the sense that the fingers are flat.
04:26They've actually got a little bit of sympathy.
04:29Those are sympathy hands.
04:31Maybe, I don't know, consoling Bruce Wayne.
04:33Bruce Wayne's talking about like, you know, obviously in between him just buying stuff because
04:37he's rich.
04:37That's a superpower.
04:38I mean, I'm sure there's downtime where Bruce is just really sad and Alfred's just kind
04:42of going up.
04:43No body attached to these.
04:45Sort of consoling, consoling his shoulder.
04:47These are consoling hands.
04:49Sympathy hands.
04:51Let's move all of those off to the side.
04:52The figure does also come in a couple of gripping hands specifically for the tools of the trade.
04:57So he has this hand here.
04:59I've already kind of taken the liberty of swapping out the hand from the end of the forearm
05:02on this side.
05:03I've already done that.
05:04I've done the leg work on that, even though we're not talking about legs.
05:06We're talking about hands and then he also comes with a father figure pointing hand.
05:11He's like, you know, Alfred, Alfred's kind of just saying that, or maybe he's kind of
05:15just gesturing Bruce in, giving him some cold soup.
05:18I know it's a completely different Alfred, but by the way, though, he also does have a
05:21pointing hand on this side.
05:22Those have already been swapped out by this guy right here.
05:26Then, of course, he comes also include with his apron.
05:29Now the apron is a real material, so not doing any plastic work here.
05:33It is tied on the back.
05:35If the knot looks a little generous, I didn't actually do this knot.
05:39This was the way it came out of the packaging, and I have yet to correct it.
05:43Just because the way it's loose like this, hey, my hand could have an apron.
05:48The way it's loose like this, it makes things a lot easier to put onto the figure.
05:51I think long-term plans, if I'm looking to put the apron onto Alfred, I might actually
05:55undo this and make it a lot tighter so it's fitted on his body.
05:59But I've just kind of left it loosey here like this, just so it'd be a lot easier to put
06:03on the figure out.
06:03I'll show you guys how that looks in a second.
06:06He does also have a pocket there on the front.
06:08And then the pocket does have, I would say, only really enough space to kind of accommodate
06:12maybe three tools, two at the most.
06:15Yeah, you could fit two.
06:16You can maybe even fit three in there.
06:19Three, I think by then it starts to get a little bit tighter in quarters.
06:21But there's at least a workable pocket.
06:24How sucky would that have been if the pocket was only there just by suggestion alone?
06:29It's there, but you can't use it.
06:31You ever do that?
06:31You ever buy something?
06:33I think I bought a jacket once and it had no working pocket.
06:36And I was kind of complaining, hey, there's no working pocket.
06:39And then until that person pointed out that was with me, he just said, well, I think there's
06:43actually a little threading or something.
06:44And they just cut the threading.
06:45And then sure enough, I had a working pocket.
06:46I can now keep my hands warm.
06:49I'm going to put this on Alfred in a second.
06:50I think what we'll kind of do though, first is look at the figure from head to toe.
06:54Then I'll put the apron on because I know that.
06:55Or do you want to look at it first?
06:57Okay, we'll look at it first.
06:59I just dropped the apron.
07:00The apron, by the way, though, you could put it over top of his head.
07:03Then you're going to have to deal with his legs.
07:04I find it's actually easier if you take the legs and put them in first.
07:08Because the knot is as loose as it is, it's easy just to slide it from the bottoms of
07:12his legs and work its way to the top.
07:14So the apron just slides up.
07:17A little bit of lint right there.
07:18And then we just drape that over his neck like that.
07:21Now that is loose.
07:22I think we can all agree that's a little loose of an apron.
07:25You could easily, and I'm sure most people don't tie a knot.
07:27It just sits below their behind.
07:29You could tie that up a little bit better, which I'm going to end up doing.
07:32And then that's basically what it's going to look like instead.
07:34I'm just leaving it loose like this as to make things a little bit easier for myself,
07:39at least, to take the apron off.
07:41So I like the look of the apron.
07:43I like the look of that.
07:43And while he maybe has got that apron on, let's look at all the accessories that he
07:47also comes included with.
07:49So he gets a pair of pliers.
07:50Now, I thought initially, getting this out of the packaging, that the pliers could move.
07:54I think what I was only really doing, though, was probably bending the plastic.
07:57It does look, doesn't it, like there's a little bit of give.
08:01But I think the give that I'm giving it right now is probably just the part that's going
08:04to be breaking the plastic.
08:06I can't think, though, that for something small like this, they would have gone in there
08:09and molded it.
08:10Even though there really is technically a line right there, it does sort of give the
08:14suggestion that you could be able to open it.
08:16Don't do really what I'm doing, because I think it's only going to...
08:19You're only going to break it.
08:22You're only going to get sad.
08:23I figure it does also come in clear with a wrench.
08:25All of these accessories, by the way, have to really commend McFarlane's team.
08:29Not only have they molded it in black plastic, but they have also painted it in silver.
08:33I mean, they didn't have to do that at all, but adding a little wear like this gives some
08:38attention to detail.
08:39I'm all for attention to detail.
08:41The figure does also come in clear with a screwdriver.
08:44Is that a Phillips?
08:45It's hard to really make it out.
08:47It's also going to get a little bit of silver on there.
08:49You get a smaller pair of...
08:51Now, these don't move at all.
08:52I'm not even going to try them.
08:53But a little pair of like pliers, you know, wire clippers, maybe.
08:57Maybe actually even something similar to what I've got.
08:59Now, I use these for clipping my twist ties when I'm taking the figure out of the plastic
09:03prisons.
09:04You already know that.
09:05You already know that.
09:05Some people don't really like that.
09:07I think it adds a little bit of something, a little flavor of flavor to this channel.
09:11But there's a little smaller version of that.
09:13And then lastly, he also comes in clear with a file.
09:16Now, I don't know if this is maybe to bust Bruce out or maybe he's behind bars.
09:20He's slipping inside of a bat cake.
09:23Bruce is kind of taking out the nail file.
09:25And I don't really know how the nail files really work to get you out of prison.
09:28You just basically keep sanding away at the metal.
09:30I mean, you would be there forever.
09:32But that's apparently what they did back in the day.
09:34So you got yourself a little nail file, an emery board.
09:37Maybe that's just for Alfred cleaning his nails.
09:39Bruce, you know, he kind of lives in a depressing life.
09:43But in the end, he kind of really does want proper hygiene for all his...
09:46I wouldn't say all his staff.
09:49He really only just has Alfred.
09:50So he's got a little emery board.
09:52Yeah, and then, of course, if you have the proper hands in his place,
09:56you can tape some of the accessories and fit them in his hands.
09:59Some work a little bit better than others.
10:00Like these almost even look like they want to be yanking out teeth.
10:04These pliers probably work the best.
10:06You can also fit, of course, the nail file.
10:08Why are these so small?
10:09Some work a little bit better than others.
10:11Some actually work a little better if you have them on an angle.
10:13Kind of more like that.
10:15I was actually kind of surprised that with all these options for hands,
10:19they didn't include a hand that was just like a C-clamp hand, a C-gripping hand.
10:23Because then you could then so easily take, like, the wrench or, like, the screwdriver,
10:28and you just basically fit them in that way.
10:30So those are all his accessories.
10:32Let's move those out of the way.
10:33I think we've kind of got a good enough time spent with the apron.
10:35Can we take that off now?
10:37Okay, let's take that off.
10:38So up over the head it goes.
10:41If only dressing toddlers were this simple.
10:43Simple.
10:44And then we're just going to go slide off the apron.
10:46Getting now a good gander at Alfred's head.
10:49Does it look like Jeremy Irons, who, again, I had no idea was six foot one?
10:53No, six foot two.
10:54Six foot two.
10:55Yeah, I would say so.
10:56I would say so.
10:57I mean, the glasses do lose some of the illusion.
10:59The glasses, though, if you look at them, they're a little larger,
11:03and I feel like they almost feel like they're too close to his nose.
11:07Like, they need to be wider.
11:10I don't know.
11:10Not Anya wide.
11:12I mean, that's way too wide.
11:14And Taylor Joy, you don't want glasses that wide.
11:16I mean, obviously, that would have to accommodate her eyes.
11:19But yeah, I think the glasses are a little on the smaller side.
11:22I mean, maybe that's one of the things that kind of throwing off the figure's face.
11:25I think the face is really good, though.
11:28He's got a little bit of a five o'clock shadow developing in there.
11:31I mean, he's got too much time piloting bat wings, fixing batmobiles.
11:35He's got no time to really stop the shave.
11:38He also does have some nice paint done to his hair.
11:40So I really like Jeremy Irons, honestly, as Alfred.
11:44Would I say it's my favorite Alfred from all the Bat films?
11:48I don't know.
11:49I mean, I like the original 89 Batman Alfred, but I think Alfred's pretty high on my list.
11:54He's an Alfred that you know is going to get things done.
11:56If somebody happens to break in the Batcave, I think you'd have a bigger, harder time with Alfred dealing with you from,
12:01you know, the newer Affleck, well, I shouldn't say the newer, but obviously, you know, the Batman v Superman universe.
12:09I think you'd have a bigger time dealing with this Alfred than probably what you would with the 89 Alfred.
12:14I think that Alfred probably just throws soup at you and just run out of the Batcave.
12:19Oh, what are we talking about here?
12:20The head sculpt, yeah, it looks pretty good.
12:22I do like that they've added the lighter coloring of the silver in there as well.
12:26Overall, like a pretty good looking face.
12:27For his outfit, he's got a vest.
12:30We'll say one thing about the vest, though, is it's soft plastic up here.
12:33I couldn't help but, and I apologize in advance, I couldn't help but draw everyone's attention to the fact that
12:39Alfred seems to be packing something.
12:42I mean, it wasn't as noticeable when you see it from the front.
12:44When you kind of turn it from the side, it does look like Alfred's got, maybe it's a pants tent.
12:51Anybody remember that episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm?
12:53It does look like he's a little overly sculpted from the front of his pants.
12:57Let's move on, shall we?
12:59He's not as sculpted on the back.
13:01His behind is a bit flat.
13:02I feel like these pants we have seen before.
13:05I don't think they're necessarily like jokers.
13:08Maybe they were maybe used, maybe this is the first time we've gotten these pants.
13:11Nice sculpted shoes.
13:12I think those are done well, too.
13:13I mean, there's not really any paint on them.
13:15They're all basically just in black.
13:17I think Alfred as a whole looks really good.
13:19Could they use this mold again for a trench coat, Alfred?
13:22I think yes, and I think then you could use that Alfred trench coat for maybe, again,
13:26swapping it out with a Bruce Wayne head sculpt, just sort of throwing it out there.
13:30For the figure's articulation, though, Alfred pretty much falls the same territory as what we normally do with DC Multiverse figures,
13:36in that his head is on a ball joint.
13:39Yes, indeed, it does allow the head to rotate all the way around.
13:41I'm sure somebody probably is going to be asking me, too.
13:43Can you take the glasses off?
13:45I suppose you could.
13:47The way that they're attached, it looks like there's glue on one side and there's glue on the other.
13:51Just to lift that up, though, and not to break the glasses,
13:54you can see that there's a fully sculpted face and eyes underneath.
13:57I don't know if I'm going to take these off.
14:00You know, I really think of Alfred more with the glasses.
14:03I would rather, even though the glasses are very small and close to his nose,
14:08I would rather just choose to keep them glasses on myself.
14:11But it's there.
14:12If you wanted to, you could pry them off.
14:14I'm not recommending.
14:15I'm not saying do or do not.
14:16You do whatever you want with your figure.
14:18The figure does, like I said, have a head ball joint.
14:21Moves up and down.
14:21No problems there.
14:22You can rotate it all the way around.
14:24For his arms, now they rotate all the way around.
14:27You can also hinge them out.
14:28There's nothing really at all holding those arms back.
14:31There's also, in addition to that, a swivel in his bicep.
14:34Double hinge on the elbow.
14:35Yeah, of course.
14:36And the hands rotate all the way around with a hinge back and forth.
14:39Alfred's upper torso is on a ball joint.
14:42And it does actually do the ball joint motion quite easily, in fact.
14:46The legs split out.
14:47They're on ratcheted joints.
14:48Everybody get a good hand.
14:50Oh, man.
14:51Legs go forward.
14:52They go back.
14:53Obviously, not only is the vest a soft plastic, but his lower trunks, kind of doing it from
15:00the sides.
15:00The trunks are very soft.
15:02I mean, if you look at the top of the pants, that's how much I can actually squeeze them
15:05together.
15:06So there really isn't a lot going on, package-wise, down below.
15:10I mean, there's a lot of sculpting, but it translates to a pretty soft top torso, top
15:15of his legs.
15:16There's a little bit of a swivel there to the top of his thigh.
15:19Double hinge on the knee.
15:20Yes, it does.
15:21And he has the standard levered articulation, up and down on the ankle, ankle rocker, and
15:26the toes also have toe articulation as well.
15:28Alfred's a good figure.
15:29I like the Alfred quite a lot.
15:31I'm glad that finally, even though really we've moved on to James Gunn's universe of
15:35the DC films, I'm glad that Todd and his team are still, you know, still releasing figures
15:40from like, you know, I like the Batman v Superman universe.
15:44I know it makes for a much moodier Batman and a much moodier Superman.
15:48But you know, it did give us one thing.
15:50It gave us an armored Batman battling Superman, which I know I didn't bring in earlier, but
15:54just to kind of show you guys.
15:55You know, for a Zack Snyder release of Alfred, I was having a hard time getting that out.
16:02For Alfred, he fits the party.
16:04One thing that can be at least said for him is the fact he does have quite a lot of accessories.
16:08To have an apron, which I really wasn't going to be expecting, to have then all these extra
16:12tools.
16:13Now, some of the tools only just fit on the front of the pocket.
16:15If anything, again, you probably can only get like two or three of them in there.
16:18But at least it's a removable apron.
16:21It's not something that's molded to his body.
16:22If you don't like that look, just, you know, again, just do it without it altogether.
16:26Yeah, I'm happy now that we have ourselves in Alfred.
16:29I mean, the likelihood that I don't think we've gotten ourselves yet a Batmobile from
16:33Zack Snyder's universe of DC films.
16:36I mean, I would love certainly to get that, you know, to have that on display with Alfred
16:40working away at the motor or just fixing it up after he's tussled with Superman.
16:44If you get the chance and you are a big fan of Zack Snyder's take on the
16:48DC world, I know obviously we've kind of moved away with that now to something else
16:52with James Gunn.
16:53But yeah, if you like that world that Snyder developed and all the characters in it, likelihood
16:57if you've already been collecting these figures, you're also going to be collecting Alfred
17:00because he's a well-welcomed addition to your collection.
17:03Unlike Alan Napier's Alfred, who spent most of his day answering red flashing Batphones,
17:08Jeremy Irons' portrayal, though, of Pennyworth more depicted a hands-on Alfred.
17:12Not only that one could be fixing the Bat gadgets, but if a moment ever arose, if somebody
17:16happened to break into the Batcave, I would imagine him the most to be the Alfred that
17:20would take charge of the situation.
17:23I also really liked Michael Caine's Alfred.
17:25Although Michael Caine more came across as a father figure to Bruce, and not while Jeremy
17:30Irons certainly did that as well, this would be the Alfred you wouldn't want to mess with.
17:34When it comes to certainly the sculpting and looking like Jeremy Irons, I think it certainly
17:38does.
17:39It does lose a little bit because he has the large framed glasses over top of his face.
17:43The glasses are removable, I think though you'd have a harder time putting them back
17:47on because it looks like they're only adhered by glue on the sides.
17:50He does have a good amount of accessories, even though we kind of started to review him
17:53wearing the apron.
17:54The apron does one thing at least, it hides the package that Alfred Pennyworth is packing.
18:00Not to draw much attention to that though, but it does seem like there's a lot of sculpting
18:03that went to the front of his body, and maybe not as much in the back.
18:07What do you guys think of Jeremy Irons' portrayal of Pennyworth?
18:10And do you think the figure does a pretty good job of landing the likeness?
18:14Let me also know down below in the comments section who your favorite movie Alfred is.
18:18Is it Jeremy Irons?
18:19Is it Michael Goh from the original 89 and Batman Returns?
18:23Maybe you're also a big fan of Michael Caine.
18:25Maybe you even like Andy Serkis' portrayal of Batman.
18:28I think the most closest resembling Alfreds would probably be Andy Serkis and Jeremy Irons.
18:33Those both seem like Alfreds again.
18:35You really wouldn't want to mess with.
18:36Sean Pertry, also from Gotham, even though I never really liked Gotham, I thought he
18:41was a pretty good Alfred too.
18:43What is your favorite actor who has ever played the role of Alfred?
18:46Maybe some of you might even say, I like Alan Napier.
18:49Alan Napier was also, I think, the only Alfred to ever dress as the Caped Crusader.
18:53That's a hilarious episode if you ever get the chance to watch it.
18:56If you guys did enjoy, by the way, watching this review, you can do it as solid and throw
