00:00At 22 overall, the Brooklyn Nets have sent that pick in to Commissioner Adam Silver
00:06with the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
00:10The Nets, with their third first-round selection of the night,
00:13take Drake Powell, the 6'6 wing, at $1.95 out of North Carolina.
00:20The first first-round pick for UNC here tonight, JY,
00:24after seeing three guys go from their bitter rivals in the top 10 from the Duke Blue Devils.
00:30So Drake Powell, in his only year in Chapel Hill, certainly has some upside,
00:34but still averaged just a little bit better than seven points per game.
00:38So not an international guard-slash-wing,
00:42but one who played his college ball for a year in Chapel Hill at UNC.
00:46Is this a better pick that Sean Marks in the Nets just made?
00:50I mean, it's better in the fact that it's not a point guard.
00:52I mean, I still wouldn't look at front-court help, but if you look at Powell,
00:57this is the guy who's a catch-and-shoot shooter, hustles, plays solid defense.
01:01So if he plays solid defense and he hustles, that means he's the exact opposite of Cam Thomas.
01:08So to me, yeah, if you look at the fact that you've got a way better defender on the wing
01:12that can help you defensively, offensive game needs to grow.
01:16But, you know, I'm looking at Brooklyn, and they're like,
01:18if you're moving on from Cam Johnson, if you're moving on from, obviously,
01:22you know, Nick Claxton in the offseason, you know,
01:25it would be my thought that the next pick or picks you have coming up,
01:29you've got to address the frontcourt, either at the power forward position,
01:34as well, like Asa Newell, or I would look at someone like a Ryan Kaufbrenner
01:38as a pivot right there for Brooklyn.
01:39Rather surprising me, perhaps, Kev, the first first-round pick that North Carolina
01:44as a program has had since Walker Kessler back in 2022, who also went 22nd overall.
01:53So as, okay, that was a little bit spicy.
01:55So, Kev and Tom, as you guys alluded to in breaking down what we expected the Nets to do,
02:00they take Drake Powell at 22nd.
02:03They have still utilized, at least at this moment,
02:05all three of their first-round picks out of five in total.
02:09Tonight, Kev, you didn't like Yeager or Dimmon?
02:12Eh, a little bit more, I guess you could say, mediocre on Nolan Traore.
02:16How do you feel about Drake Powell now on VK?
02:19The most unbiased man in the history of sports media is not going to step up and tell a lie.
02:24Easily the best pick they've made all night.
02:26I think Drake Powell is in the same tier of prospect as Carter Bryan.
02:31I'm sure people won't agree.
02:32I'm fine with that.
02:33Drake Powell maybe did the best job any player did on Cooper Flag this season,
02:39which is saying a lot.
02:41And I thought he showed a lot more versatility on offense than Carter Bryan.
02:49Did not have a high usage rate.
02:51I would, though, use Ben's point about the lack of first-rounders to justify that.
02:57Whatever Hubert Davis is doing in Chapel Hill, not good.
03:01Ask Ian Jackson, who had to go to St. John's.
03:04Caleb Wilson, I don't know what you're doing, pal.
03:07I'm not sure I like that move.
03:09Hubert Davis was nearly fired, and then a week later got a contract extension.
03:13I'm giving Drake Powell a pass, Ben.
03:15I really, truly believe this is by far Brooklyn's best decision here tonight.
