00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:15Only Christ is King. War, peace, and the heart that reigns.
00:22My dear brothers and sisters, we stand at the edge of a trembling world.
00:28The winds of war are gathering once more in the Middle East.
00:32Tensions rising between Iran and Israel.
00:36Gods are bleeding yet again, and the world looks on with clenched fists or folded arms.
00:43In the distance, China quietly maneuvers not only across geopolitical borders,
00:49but within the heart of the church herself.
00:52In Nigeria, our brothers and sisters suffer violent persecution.
00:56In Europe, confusion reigns.
01:00Cultural, moral, spiritual.
01:03And here at home, the streets echo with protests.
01:07Some chanting, no king.
01:09And yet, as a shepherd of souls, I tell you, there is a king.
01:16There is only one.
01:19He does not shout.
01:20He does not swagger.
01:22He reigns from a cross.
01:24And his name is Jesus Christ.
01:28Let us begin with what looms.
01:30As of this week, world leaders edge even closer to open conflict in the Middle East.
01:38Iran's aggression, Israel's retaliation, Gaza's cries, and the looming question,
01:45will there be war?
01:46The church has long taught the doctrine of just war,
01:51a measured, grave discernment on when war is morally permissible.
01:58The doctrine is not convenient.
02:00It is not political.
02:02It is profoundly Catholic.
02:04Listen to the Catechism.
02:07The strict conditions for legitimate defense by military force require rigorous consideration.
02:15That's from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 2309.
02:22A preemptive war, a war launched not in defense but in anticipation, is not a just war.
02:30As Pope St. John Paul II said before the 2003 invasion of Iraq,
02:38War is not always inevitable.
02:41It is always a defeat for humanity.
02:44From his address to the diplomatic corps, January 13, 2003.
02:51And Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Ratzinger, with clarity,
02:57warned that the concept of a preemptive war does not appear in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
03:06So, while we must pray for peace, we must also speak clearly.
03:13A nation does not have the moral right to wage war simply because it suspects it might be attacked.
03:20The Catechism of the Catholic Church, number 2309, outlines four strict conditions
03:30that must be met simultaneously for a war to be considered just.
03:36First, the damage inflicted by the aggressor on the nation or communities of nations
03:42must be lasting, grave, and certain.
03:45Second, all other means of putting an end to it must have been shown to be impractical or ineffective.
03:55Third, there must be serious prospects of success.
04:01And lastly, the use of arms must not produce evils and disorders
04:06graver than the evil to be eliminated.
04:09The power of modern means of destruction weighs very heavily in evaluating this condition.
04:17Additionally, the authority to declare war must be legitimate,
04:23typically a properly constituted government.
04:27These principles form the backbone of Catholic just war teaching,
04:32rooted in Scripture, and developed by saints like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas.
04:40We must measure our support or opposition to global conflict,
04:46not by flags or alliances, but by the eternal law of God.
04:52As wars loom in the open, another war unfolds behind the veil,
04:58a silent struggle within the Church herself.
05:02Under the last pontificate, a secret agreement was made with the Communist government of China,
05:10ceding authority over Episcopal appointments.
05:14Bishops once imprisoned for their fidelity to Rome have been sidelined,
05:19while state-appointed puppets take their place.
05:24Let us not be naive.
05:25The regime that persecutes Catholics, bulldozes churches,
05:31imprisons bishops,
05:33and rewrites sacred Scripture
05:35has been handed the keys to a part of the vineyard.
05:40In allowing the atheist state to oversee the appointment of bishops,
05:45the Church has allowed Caesar to enter the sanctuary.
05:48We must weep, we must pray, but we must not be silent.
05:56While China's influence spreads quietly,
05:59blood runs openly in places like Nigeria.
06:03Dozens of priests murdered,
06:06entire parishes raped,
06:08children abducted,
06:10catechists tortured.
06:11These are not statistics.
06:15These are our brothers and sisters.
06:17And yet,
06:19the world says nothing.
06:22Europe drifts further into apostasy.
06:25The faith that once gave rise to cathedrals
06:28now bows before the idols of relativism and technocracy.
06:34Laws multiply,
06:36but virtues fade.
06:38And in America,
06:41the political climate churns.
06:43Catholics often feel torn.
06:47This administration has supported policies
06:49that protect the unborn
06:50and the dignity of life.
06:53And for that,
06:53we give thanks.
06:55And yet,
06:56alongside all the good,
06:57there has arisen a pride,
07:00a self-deification of political power.
07:03And we hear chants like,
07:05no king,
07:06a cry of rebellion,
07:08and let us be clear.
07:11No earthly ruler is truly king.
07:15No party saves.
07:17No flag redeems.
07:20As Pope Pius XI declared in Quas Primus,
07:25Oh,
07:25what happiness would be ours
07:27if all men,
07:28individuals,
07:29families,
07:29and nations
07:30would but let themselves be governed
07:33by Christ.
07:35And,
07:36when one's men recognize,
07:38both in private and in public life,
07:42that Christ is king,
07:44society will at last receive the great blessings of real liberty,
07:49well-ordered discipline,
07:51peace,
07:51and harmony.
07:52So what are we to do?
07:55How do we live when the world unravels?
08:00We hold fast to the words of St. Paul.
08:02And the peace of God,
08:06which surpasseth all understanding.
08:11Keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
08:16Philippians chapter 4, verse 7.
08:19The peace is not worldly comfort.
08:26It is not passivity.
08:28It is the supernatural stillness of the soul anchored in Christ,
08:33even when the storm howls.
08:35St.
08:37Teresa of Avila said it best.
08:41Let nothing disturb you.
08:43Let nothing frighten you.
08:46All things pass away.
08:48God never changes.
08:51Patience obtains all things.
08:54They who have God lack nothing.
08:57God alone is enough.
08:59We are not called to be indifferent.
09:04We are not called to hide.
09:06We are called to watch,
09:08to pray,
09:09and to speak the truth with a fire of love
09:12and the clarity of faith.
09:15So I speak now to you,
09:19shepherd to the flock.
09:21Number one,
09:23pray for peace.
09:25Not the peace of silence or appeasement,
09:28but true peace,
09:30born of justice.
09:33Reject unjust war.
09:35Do not be seduced by propaganda.
09:39Measure all things by the gospel,
09:42not the news.
09:44Number three,
09:46stand with the persecuted.
09:49Speak their names.
09:50Offer masses for them.
09:52Tell their stories.
09:55Number four,
09:56resist the dragon's deception.
10:00The church is not China's to rule.
10:03Christ alone is head.
10:06Reject false kings.
10:09Whether it is an emperor in Beijing
10:11or a politician in Washington,
10:15Christ alone is king.
10:19Entrust your heart to Christ.
10:21Keep his peace.
10:23Guard your soul.
10:24And above all,
10:26remember,
10:27we were born for this time.
10:30God chose you in this hour.
10:33Not for comfort,
10:35but for witness.
10:37So take up your rosary.
10:40Kneel before the Eucharist.
10:43Speak the name of Jesus
10:44without fear.
10:46Let your life proclaim,
10:49no king but Christ.
10:51We are not orphans in the storm.
10:54We are the children of the crucified king.
10:58And he reigns.
11:00Not in theory,
11:01not in symbol,
11:03but in truth.
11:05And he shall rule from sea to sea
11:07and from the river
11:09unto the ends of the earth.
11:11Psalm 71 verse 8.
11:14Let us kneel before him.
11:17Let us rise for him.
11:19And let us never forget.
11:22His kingdom shall have no end.
11:26Until next week,
11:28stay faithful and watchful.
11:30I am your shepherd
11:33and I walk with you
11:34in Christ the King.
11:37Amen.
11:38In the name of the Father
11:39and of the Son
11:41and of the Holy Spirit.
11:43Amen.
11:43Amen.
