00:00Charlie on Aston Villa and obviously the main headline surrounding them is the PSR
00:05and unfortunately they're a club that despite all this success they've had on the pitch
00:11and Emery's sort of revival, they do fall into that PSR sort of situation
00:16they obviously had to sell last summer as well
00:18in terms of players they should sell
00:21there's obviously some candidates, Martinez one of them
00:24Rodgers is a huge asset that they've got
00:27Jacob Ramsey as well
00:29I mean it's a difficult situation they're in
00:32but if they did have to sell anyone
00:33who would they sell and also just break down the PSR situation
00:38because it is quite a bit of a handful
00:40and then maybe you look at the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City
00:43and you think why is it not also affecting them
00:46but it is Aston Villa
00:47Yeah it's crazy really that Villa are the team in the Premier League
00:51affected most players considering they're about to head into their third consecutive season
00:54in European football
00:55which brings in such an incredible income for the football club
00:58in terms of fan base, the attendance has been higher, the merchandise sales have been better since they switched to Adidas
01:05and the sponsorships as well have been increasing
01:07so how on earth are they still struggling?
01:09and you can also include in that that they sold Diaby for 50 million, they sold John Duran for 70, Douglas Louise for 45, how are they still in a situation?
01:18well their wage bill is incredibly high compared to a lot of teams in and around them
01:24not in terms of total wage bill but in terms of revenue to wages and that's really been a struggle for them
01:29of course they've been bringing in players to replace those that have gone
01:33Amador Inanna costing 50 million pounds was a big outlay
01:36and see Jadon Filagin coming back and they're being sold again
01:40there have been players brought in Mautzen as well as another one, 37 and a half million
01:44so it's not quite been just sales and then no incomings
01:48it has been quite expensive as well
01:49Premier League clubs are only allowed to lose 105 million pounds over a three-year period
01:55I say only, that sounds a bit crazy in itself doesn't it?
01:57but that is the rule and Villa are about 50 million short at the moment
02:01with that deadline approaching quickly on June 30 if they need to sort out their business
02:06Emi Martinez was one name you mentioned, I think he's probably the favourite to leave
02:11he could probably fetch between 40 and 50 million for him
02:14given he's still got quite a few years left in his contract
02:17he's a World Cup winner, two-time Yashin Award winner as well
02:22I think maybe that could be a decent sale for them
02:25but of course you've then got to replace him
02:26that probably has to be done after the deadline
02:28and Leon Bailey is potentially another one
02:30he's not quite as valuable as he once was
02:33but maybe 25 million pounds for him
02:35and then as you mentioned the likes of Morgan Rodgers and Jacob Ramsey
02:38Villa really don't want to sell either of those players
02:41if they are going to sell one it will be Ramsey I feel
02:44but how much are you realistically going to get for him?
02:47it's a really complex one and Villa fans rightfully frustrated
02:50given how many years they've been in Europe now
02:52yeah and then I mean in terms of those players to sell
02:57but you know the back end of the season
02:59obviously missing out on the Champions League the way they did as well
03:01does that have a big factor?
03:04would have that affected them quite a lot
03:05you know going from the Champions League
03:07and that being in the very very elite of European competition
03:11I mean obviously you know Emre would have wanted to be in there as well
03:14so it does affect them on the pitch as well
03:16but off the pitch that Champions League revenue not coming in
03:19is surely another big factor in this case
03:21absolutely is
03:23it wouldn't have had an impact on this year's PSR numbers
03:26because the revenue won't come until next season
03:28but what it does mean is Villa could lose about 75 to 100 million
03:32potentially depending on how far they were to get into the Champions League
03:36that's what they're losing for their revenue next season
03:38so we'll be in a situation once again where Villa will have to sell players
03:43otherwise they'll be getting a potential points deduction or a hefty fine
03:46so yeah it's really tricky
03:48and then there's the UEFA squad cost rules as well
03:50where you can spend 70% of your revenue on player costs
03:54which is effectively salaries and bonuses
03:57Villa are in the 80s of the percents at the moment
04:00so you'd have to get rid of Martinez
04:01you'd have to get rid of a Bailey maybe
04:03Luca Dean's a high earner but they want to keep him ideally
04:06of course talks of Rash were coming back
04:08completely out the window because he's on £300,000 a week
04:12it's a really crazy situation
04:14so Villa they want the squad depth
04:16Emery wants to have two good players in every single position
04:19but they simply can't afford it unless they bring in youngsters do you feel
04:22Yeah and just on Unai Emery
04:25obviously his goals for Aston Villa are going to be incredible
04:27he'll surpass his 150th game in charge for Aston Villa
04:31we've mentioned the turnaround, the revival under Unai Emery
04:35but surely the situation off the pitch is actually going to affect him on it
04:39at the end of the day with less squad depth, less world-class talent
04:43obviously they went big in January and it almost worked out incredibly for them
04:48but they are still short of that bit of silverware that could mark this era
04:52under Emery and he might not be long until he starts to maybe fall a bit frustrated
04:57with the sort of ongoings off the pitch
05:00I think he's pretty committed to be fair to Aston Villa
05:04which is difficult to see because as a manager you want to be able to invest in what you want
05:08you don't want to have so many restrictions
05:10you don't want to develop a player and then you're told you have to get rid of him
05:14and you've got no choice
05:15that's the kind of situation he's finding himself in
05:18but he seems to like the challenge
05:19he loves living in this area
05:21he loves the football club
05:22he loves having so much control at the top of the club
05:25alongside Monchi and alongside Damian Vidigani as well
05:28so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control elsewhere
05:32and if he does I just I don't see him
05:35after creating such a connection with the fan base and with the club as well
05:39I don't see him leaving
05:40but obviously I could be proven wrong with that
05:42but at the moment Emery seems very happy
05:45and any talk of him going elsewhere is rubbed out immediately by the club
05:48so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:49so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:50so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:51so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:52so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:53so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:55so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:57so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:58so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
05:59so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
06:00so I don't think he'll be able to find that kind of level of control
