00:01This season on Down Home Fab, I'm not slowing down.
00:04We have really big dreams.
00:06We want to be the destination for everything designed and construction in Sioux Falls.
00:10When was this house built?
00:1198.
00:12Definitely screaming.
00:1398.
00:14We need a little Chelsea in here.
00:15Yes, we do.
00:16That's what I like to hear.
00:18We're about to go check out a new potential client.
00:20It's different for us because it's a business.
00:23Let's show people what we got.
00:24We have to nail it.
00:25We opened up a furniture and home goods store and we're learning very quickly that nothing's easy.
00:35Oh my God.
00:35Oh my God.
00:36Oh my God.
00:36We are extremely overwhelmed.
00:39The fear is, it's like, is this too much?
00:42I'm not sure what the inspector's going to say, but this could be $4,000 or $5,000.
00:46Why did you guys take this door out already?
00:48Maybe it's time to find an extra hand.
00:51You look handsome.
00:53You look like a model.
00:54I've rolled out of bed like this.
00:56Our life is wild right now.
00:57I cannot believe our oldest is starting to drive.
01:00As a teen mom, having a baby at 18, there was no way I could have envisioned where we are now.
01:07My design is evolving.
01:09Now, more than ever, I am pushing myself.
01:12A mauve pink bathroom.
01:14This is so opposite of anything that we've done.
01:17This is unbelievable.
01:19I don't even feel like I'm cool enough to live in this house.
01:24I want to live this life that we're living forever.
01:29I love you.
01:30I love you too.
01:30Get a little bit of countryside and good life.
01:40Y'all know what I mean, because the grass is always green.
01:43Life is good.
01:44We're very busy.
01:46We have our design business here in Sioux Falls.
01:48I'm the designer, and Cole's the project manager.
01:51We have our store grand opening.
01:53We have a teenager starting to drive.
01:55We have a seven-year-old, six-year-old, three-year-old.
01:59We've got two new cats.
02:00This one is Patrick.
02:02Is that not the cutest thing you've ever seen in your life?
02:04We also got a new dog, and he's definitely Cole's dog.
02:07Goose is my boy, because he loves me.
02:10There's a lot going on, and we're trying to keep our heads above water.
02:15Down home, feel right.
02:18Come here.
02:20You're my girl, Trude.
02:22What are you doing out here?
02:23I'm trying to find peace on Earth.
02:25Are they giving this to you?
02:27No, they're stressing me out.
02:28They stress me out every day.
02:30I've rebuilt this thing like four times.
02:31Having a little hobby farm, I truly enjoy it.
02:34It's pretty therapeutic.
02:35It allows me to create a lot of memories with the kids.
02:38So when we're out there on the farm and with the animals,
02:40I cherish those moments.
02:41I love summer nights where we're out there till dark.
02:43Just working on things or being with the animals, it means so much to me.
02:46What's up?
02:46What have you been doing?
02:48I just got done bringing all the shelving and all the other things over to the store
02:51for the grand opening.
02:53It came fast, and there's a lot to do.
02:57It's been a dream of mine for a long time to have our own brick-and-mortar store.
03:02Woo!
03:02Woo!
03:03So we soft-opened the store earlier this year.
03:08Now we want to have a huge grand opening celebration.
03:12You can feel the weight of the pressure.
03:16Like now, we have employees.
03:18I think that has been a huge learning curve for us.
03:21And it's like, at the end of the day, it's our money.
03:24Okay, but also, listen, and hear me out, because you're going to think I'm insane.
03:28But someone reached out, and she wants us to her house, and it's a smaller project.
03:33Okay.
03:34Single mom.
03:35She's an entrepreneur, so she has her own business.
03:38Yeah, I'm on board.
03:40That's right.
03:41Damn straight, you are.
03:41Is that what you wanted to hear from?
03:42Yes.
03:43Okay.
03:45You're talking to them?
03:46My name is Madison, and I am a single mom with three kids.
03:52I have been living in Two Falls for about 10 years now.
03:56I own a medical marijuana cultivation and manufacturing business.
04:00For years, I've been struggling with my health.
04:03I do have a few autoimmune disorders, lupus and relapsing polychondritis, these crazy names.
04:09I have to limit my activities most of the day.
04:13It just makes life very hard.
04:15I have been living at this house for about a year now.
04:17It really is a fixer-upper.
04:18It's old.
04:19It's outdated.
04:21I've only been working in each room.
04:22I painted my cabinet, built a bench, painted my wall black after it was a bright red.
04:29I love doing these projects, but with my health, it made it completely impossible to finish them.
04:34Chelsea is perfect to design it, because she's young, like I am.
04:38She also has kids around the same age as mine, and can find the right balance of it all.
04:50Madison's just been through a lot in her life.
04:53She was a teen mom.
04:55I was two.
04:56I was a single mom for a while before I met Cole, and it just makes me want to do this project
05:01even more, because I can kind of relate with how she's feeling.
05:05How's my mustache?
05:07It's beautiful.
05:08I have this thing on point.
05:09It is.
05:10I do like it.
05:11This is the longest he's ever kept a mustache.
05:13My body has finally fully grown a good one.
05:16I've tried to have a little mustache, but it's just not there.
05:19It was just patchy.
05:20It just took 35 years to grow one.
05:24It was worth the wait.
05:26Let's do this.
05:28Hello.
05:28Hello.
05:29I'm Chelsea.
05:30So nice to meet you.
05:32I'm Cole.
05:33Nice meeting you.
05:34Okay.
05:34Three kids.
05:35How old are they?
05:35Seven in a week, and then five and two.
05:39Do you spend a lot of time in this space?
05:41Not as much as I want to.
05:42Okay.
05:43It's boring.
05:43Okay.
05:44What do you think you would describe your style as?
05:48I like black.
05:49Love it.
05:49Love it.
05:50I like sparkle, too, unfortunately.
05:52A little sparkle?
05:53I do.
05:54I like that.
05:55I'm going to do this room how I would do our living room.
05:58Fun, practical for children, but also a place you can come hang out and relax.
06:04So you said you did some DIY projects yourself when you moved in?
06:09I painted this back wall black.
06:11Love.
06:11I tried to put this adhesive on the counters.
06:15Love it.
06:15This is cool, though.
06:16This is just like a sticker?
06:17Yeah.
06:17It's just like it comes in a roll.
06:19And I love projects, so I even attempted to build a bench.
06:23You built that?
06:23Yeah.
06:24I'm impressed.
06:24I can't build anything.
06:26This is actually such a good idea because storage.
06:29No, this is awesome.
06:30I love that you've done everything that you've done.
06:32I'm ready to give you, like, new.
06:35Absolutely.
06:36What is behind here?
06:37Is it stairs?
06:38It is stairs.
06:39Okay.
06:39This is a high traffic door.
06:41It's very, very high traffic.
06:42When you open the fridge, no one can walk through.
06:44Mm-hmm.
06:45So we won't be able to, like, widen the kitchen because we can't move the stairs.
06:51Yeah.
06:51I definitely think it's a full overhaul in here.
06:54New flooring, new cabinets.
06:56I want to rework this layout.
06:58But I also want to give you something that's modern, a little bit moody.
07:02I want to sprinkle in some of the glam elements as well.
07:04Or dump the whole thing.
07:06Oh, okay.
07:06Or dump it out.
07:07Okay.
07:08No.
07:08Okay.
07:08Okay.
07:08Okay.
07:10This is the sunroom, office, toy room, multi-use.
07:14Okay.
07:15A little all-in-one moment in here.
07:17And you work from home.
07:18Yeah.
07:19Yeah.
07:19But it's inconvenient for the kids going outside if I'm still working on a phone call.
07:23You know, tell them to hush, hush.
07:24Yeah.
07:24You know, and they're not.
07:25But if you're so successful, being so distracted, imagine what it's going to be like when you're
07:31able to just have, like, a little bit of peace.
07:33I have a few concerns.
07:35One, I can already feel.
07:36I'm going downhill over here.
07:38Here, let's take this ball.
07:40I'll barely do anything with it.
07:41Like, it's going downhill.
07:42Right.
07:43This is an exterior wall.
07:45This is an exterior siding.
07:46This is definitely added on.
07:48Like, I can tell right now, like, it looks like it's kind of pulling away from the house.
07:51I don't think they had any permits for this room whatsoever.
07:54This is a situation where we can't just make this room look good.
07:58Like, we have to address the actual issues because this is a family.
08:02This is a family with children, and it's about safety.
08:05We need to meet with our general contractor and just have him look at it and tell us what
08:09we can do here.
08:10Let me know right away.
08:11Okay.
08:14Hello.
08:14Hey, Dan.
08:15How's it going?
08:16Good.
08:16How are you?
08:16We're at a new project here, and they have a sunroom.
08:19It was added on to the exterior of the home, and you can see that it's separating.
08:23Oh, that's not good.
08:25There's a lot of questions that need some answers.
08:27Sure.
08:27Yeah.
08:28I think we can probably discover something tomorrow and get a plan.
08:31All right.
08:31We'll see you then.
08:39She brought us in here, and she was telling us how this room is important to her.
08:43Just kind of looking from here, we're right on the property line, and that's pretty much
08:48a no-go.
08:48That might be what makes this illegal, is that we can't be a foot off the property line with
08:53the structure.
08:54Honestly, I couldn't imagine working with another general contractor.
08:57We've known him for, like, five years now.
08:59Yeah.
09:00And I'll be honest, when I first met Dan, I was like, that guy's grumpy.
09:04I love Dan now.
09:05He'll, like, call me and be like, hey, you seem like you were stressed when I saw you.
09:09Like, I just wanted to call and check in.
09:11It's like, oh my God, Dan.
09:12It's like what we're dealing with already is basically a floating slab.
09:16What?
09:16It's probably just eroded over the years.
09:18Any water and stuff that gets underneath that and washes it away, that means it just keeps
09:23going down.
09:24I don't think it's safe to leave this.
09:25You don't think having this portion of the house is good on here at all?
09:29Honestly, the best solution that we can do for Madison here is to get rid of all the bad
09:33on this project.
09:34The structure that's not legal, the roof that's pulling away, stick with what's good inside,
09:38and that would be that small old porch that's in there.
09:41Yeah.
09:42It's not a lot of square footage, but I think we can make a pretty functional space
09:44out of it.
09:45Ugh.
09:46I hate making these phone calls.
09:48Me too.
09:49If we don't fix this sunroom, something's going to happen in the future, whether it's
09:52separating from the house completely, or she's just going to have to start over, and that's
09:56going to cost a lot of money.
09:57Yeah.
09:57Hi, Madison.
09:59Hello.
09:59So Cole and I brought our guy over here to look at that sunroom.
10:03It's got to come down.
10:05Oh, that sucks.
10:06So either we rebuild it up, and we're talking tens of thousands.
10:09Another option that we can do is there is a slab in an area that is actually good.
10:16We just build you an office in there.
10:18Yeah, keep what you can, but we must have to keep the costs low.
10:22Absolutely.
10:22I promise you I'm going to make it so cool, and it's going to be everything that you're
10:26hoping for.
10:28It's going to be so bomb.
10:29I know you guys will do a great job.
10:31I feel like I'm finding my true personal style, like cowboy contemporary.
10:37Madison likes kind of a dark, moody space.
10:41She likes those glam moments, and so I want to go a little cowboy here.
10:45Leather, super smoky woods.
10:48Still doing my cow hides, you know.
10:51I want it to feel like rich and warm, but also rugged and edgy.
10:56Not anything that's like over the top, but just little cowboy sprinkles.
11:00We are moving out of here, and we are so excited.
11:14Chelsea and Cole, the house is all yours.
11:18All right, I know these guys are ready to get in here and start ripping things out.
11:25I just wanted to make sure that we're on the same page.
11:28I sent Madison the plans.
11:29She's super pumped.
11:31This room's not giving anything.
11:32It's just a blank rectangle.
11:34I want this room to be sleek and welcoming, a little moody.
11:40The flooring's going to be replaced.
11:41I want to do floor-to-ceiling, flat wall.
11:43And then I think I'm going to add a floating fireplace to add some coziness.
11:48Kitchen.
11:49She's like trying to make this cute, so we're just going to make it epic.
11:53She likes, like, dark.
11:55Like, she painted that wall black.
11:56I want to take it where she is trying to take it.
11:59Literally, we're ripping everything out and starting from scratch.
12:03Move the fridge from here to there.
12:05Cabinets on this wall again.
12:06Tons of storage.
12:08A black-stained, fully overlaid cabinet.
12:11And then do a really cool, dark countertop.
12:14I would love to give her bench seating.
12:16Maybe, like, cushions on it.
12:18Finish it up and make it look, like, super clean and comfy.
12:21And really make it a space where the kids are going to want to sit and eat their food there.
12:25So they're not running around with food all over the house.
12:27We're obviously not making this space any bigger.
12:30It's just going to be clean lines.
12:32Very functional.
12:33Get to work.
12:34You too.
12:35Okay.
12:35Getting amazing, sweetie.
12:44Look at that ace.
12:47You like that?
12:48Yeah, I do.
12:49Watching you demo.
12:51I'm like, oh, my God, honey.
12:53And then when I see you design, I'm like, damn.
12:56We need to get out one.
13:00Got a bunch of particle board up there.
13:03This is what not to do.
13:04This is insane.
13:05Yeah.
13:06This crack is literally right where her desk was.
13:09Yeah, this thing's sinking.
13:11It's going down.
13:13Who's calling you?
13:14Hello?
13:15Chelsea, a car just drove through the front of the store.
13:17What?
13:18I just got off the phone with the police.
13:20They're on their way.
13:21Is everybody okay?
13:23The glass, there's glass everywhere.
13:24No.
13:25Paul.
13:26Paul.
13:27Come here.
13:28Someone just crashed into the store.
13:29What?
13:30I'm not joking.
13:31We have to go.
13:31Like a car?
13:32Yes.
13:33I have to go get the kids.
13:34Paul's coming immediately.
13:35Yeah.
13:35He'll be right there.
13:36Okay.
13:36Oh, my God.
13:37Oh, my God.
13:37Oh, my God.
13:38Dan, I'll call you later.
13:47When you start a business, you think about a lot of things.
13:51But getting a phone call and hearing that a car crashed into your store is not one of those things.
13:58Oh, my God.
14:02Oh, my God.
14:05Immediately, my mind is going to worst-case scenario and thinking, are any customers hurt?
14:11Are our employees hurt?
14:13Or our store is destroyed?
14:14When I find out that nobody was hurt, it was such a sense of relief.
14:23She seems to be okay.
14:25Yeah.
14:26Yes.
14:26She's outside of her vehicle.
14:28The driver, she felt absolutely horrible.
14:31She was blowing in my arms.
14:32The fact that they hit the brick was incredible because it stopped the car.
14:38Had it just been window?
14:40It could have been really bad.
14:41We got the window boarded up.
14:44There was glass that hit everything in this vicinity.
14:49And so we're having to clear out quite a bit, even more, I think, than I was expecting.
14:54We have a grand opening in a couple weeks.
14:57How are we going to fix that in time?
14:59They're going to have to fix the structure of the building because literally, it's like a U.
15:03We officially lost a room.
15:20Okay, so all, this is all.
15:22All of it's gone.
15:23Yeah, to here.
15:23Just here.
15:24That's the office.
15:25This is our office.
15:25Yep.
15:26Just small.
15:27As you look at it now, it might seem small because of the space that's leaving, but at
15:31least now it will be safe and secure.
15:34Yes, I know.
15:35It will be done the right way.
15:37In terms of resale of Madison's home, this sunroom is actually illegal because it's not
15:41up to code.
15:42So honestly, if we gave her a smaller office, it actually benefits her in the long run.
15:47It's going to add value to her home because it's legal and it's up to code.
15:50Door to the outside.
15:51Outside.
15:51Door to the office.
15:53Correct.
15:53And it's just this little office and then built-ins or built-ins or giving her what she
16:00needs, you know, getting rid of like a major issue.
16:02For sure.
16:03And we'll make it cute.
16:16Honestly, Madison's built-in bench, it was not bad.
16:20It had storage.
16:21It had storage, a little DIY action.
16:23Yeah.
16:23It was good.
16:24I'm going to just upgrade that bench.
16:27Oh, this looks cute.
16:28You like?
16:29Yeah, it's adorable.
16:31Built-in storage.
16:32Amazing.
16:33And then I still have to pick out fabric because we're going to do a big backing to this and
16:37it's going to look really nice and provide like a cushion.
16:40Originally, if you remember this wall that this is going to be on, she painted black.
16:44Yeah.
16:45So I want to make sure we're putting something back that's almost like a statement, but
16:49I want to make sure it goes perfectly with everything else.
16:51For sure.
16:52I'm excited to see it in her space.
16:53I think she's going to appreciate it.
16:54I'll get to working on the drawer, but first I'm going to start wrapping this thing.
16:58Do you want to help?
16:58Hold something for a minute.
17:00I can definitely help.
17:02It'll cool my glasses.
17:04You look great.
17:05Bring it on over.
17:06Right down to the bottom first.
17:08Okay, great.
17:09Hold it just like that.
17:12Move your finger.
17:13It's scaring me.
17:13Look at that curve.
17:16Look at that curve.
17:26All right.
17:27So I just arrived at a upholstery shop.
17:30I'm going to pick out a fabric for Madison's little banquette.
17:33We're going to do something upholstered to the back of it, just to make it a little cushy
17:39and comfortable.
17:40It's hard to choose when there's so many good options.
17:44The little cowgirl inside of me wants to go with like leather, something that feels a
17:49little rugged.
17:50It's going to be durable.
17:52It is going to look good.
17:53And it's going to be easy to clean.
17:55Okay, so I'm committing to this.
17:58I think it's going to look nice with her black kitchen.
18:00And we're going to stop there.
18:01Oh, my gosh.
18:06Hey, guys.
18:07Looks like you guys got quite a bit done.
18:09Got all the walls down.
18:10What's this?
18:11So...
18:12Holy s***.
18:13Yeah, there's a hole in there.
18:14We're almost a quarter of the way through this project.
18:16We really can't afford any delays.
18:19Like, we need to get Madison and her kids back in their house.
18:22So I had to dig this hole out to find out if we were frost protected for this column to
18:26be able to add all this weight to it.
18:28What does frost protected mean?
18:30So in South Dakota, we have to be 42 inches in the ground with our footings when they
18:34carry load, like a deck or a roof, because our ground freezes that deep.
18:39Last thing you want to do is build a new structure and then have it kind of all get pulled apart
18:42by the frost in the ground.
18:43Right.
18:44I'm not sure what the inspector's going to say, but if we don't have the right depth on
18:47our column, this could be $4,000 or $5,000 to remedy.
18:51Oh, my God.
18:52The budget is already tight?
18:54When will you find out?
18:56Tomorrow.
18:56The building inspector's coming to take a look at it.
18:58I have to laugh almost because this was supposed to be a smaller project.
19:03And even when we're, like, working on something for Madison, we're still thinking of all the
19:08things that we need to get ready and do for the grand opening.
19:11I honestly don't know how we're going to make everything come together.
19:15The sunroom is literally one problem after another.
19:20Yeah.
19:24The window is finally getting fixed from the accident.
19:29Look at our gorgeous flat wall.
19:32Doesn't it be cool?
19:33And this was a crisis.
19:35It wasn't as bad as it could have been.
19:37It's been a very big hassle and pain, but thank God it was just the car in the glass.
19:42Nobody was injured.
19:43Now we just need to get up and truck forward and get things back in order.
19:48Look at it.
19:49Woo-hoo!
19:49Hey, guys.
19:57I just got word from the building inspector that the footing is up to code, so we're good
20:01to start building that side of the house back up.
20:03And we should have that done by the end of the week.
20:06Drive tonight!
20:07Oh, look at it!
20:12This looks good.
20:14It honestly is better than I thought.
20:17It's way bigger than...
20:18I thought it was going to be like touch, touch.
20:21Madison is a single mom and she is a business owner.
20:25I definitely can relate to Madison needing to have a space where she can work and shut the
20:30door and just really focus.
20:32All right.
20:32I have a few different layout options.
20:34We're going to tape them up and vote.
20:37This one has like a built-in desk and then built-ins here as well, so she would have
20:42pretty much desk-desk situation.
20:44It's already a confined space, so like this really makes you feel claustrophobic.
20:49I almost feel like this one's better.
20:51This one has built-ins on this wall, but then is it weird to walk in from the kitchen and
20:57see wall?
20:58I think we flip them to the side just so that when you walk in, that's what you see
21:01instead of just a blank wall.
21:03Right, right.
21:03Desk here.
21:04Make it so that an office chair could tuck under.
21:07I'd want to include some open shelving so it's not so heavy.
21:11It can be up away from the kids and she has stuff that's actually safe.
21:14And I'm glad we're able to save the ceiling.
21:16I'll be able to like paint it or do something cool in here.
21:18We're going to have really pretty glass double doors.
21:21This is going to be really nice.
21:22And I know that Madison was a little bit nervous when we had to get rid of this whole addition,
21:26but I want to make sure that this looks so, so good.
21:30Yeah.
21:30We don't even need to vote against you because we just, we agree.
21:33This might be the first time we ever agree on anything.
21:36Or it's just the first time you did something good.
21:38Oh, yeah.
21:40It's, I hate you all.
21:42It's like 8.30 a.m. and we've already been a thousand places.
21:52Chelsea's running the kids' school.
21:54I had to run to Madison's because the cabinets were being delivered.
21:57Thank God we are partners in this because I just couldn't imagine if it was just one of us.
22:03There'd be no way.
22:04That's why we divide and conquer.
22:06Hello.
22:07The cabs are here?
22:09The cabs are here.
22:12We went dark on dark here.
22:14They are dark.
22:15Madison said so many times she's like sneak.
22:17Oh, look at all the wood grain.
22:18I love it.
22:19These deeper tone, moodier colors, it almost feels a little bit rugged and lived in.
22:24So you remember how Madison had a full wall of cabinets over here?
22:28Yeah.
22:28I want to obviously give her back that storage, but I want to have it upgraded.
22:34I kind of wanted it to be her mom hub, her coffee, and whatever she wants to put over here.
22:39We're not doing backsplash anywhere else in the kitchen, but I thought it would be fun
22:43because Madison said she likes glam.
22:46Mm-hmm.
22:46So just like a little boop of glam for a backsplash.
22:51Okay.
22:51Glam it up in the mom hub.
22:53Where's my mom hub at home?
22:55I don't have one.
22:56Your bed.
22:57I thought you were going to stay at the bar downstairs, but it's okay.
23:00We can definitely relate to the stage of life Madison's in.
23:03We know what it's like to be in a tighter space with young kids.
23:07The chaos never stops, but you could open your space to kind of let the chaos flow.
23:12In Madison's space, I think we really need to just maximize the room as much as we can.
23:22I am looking for countertopic Madison.
23:25It's no secret that I love countertops, and I'm dying over all the slabs.
23:30There's green.
23:32Gorgeous.
23:33Look at this one.
23:36Oh, I love it here.
23:37So she had done kind of a DIY peel and stick, and it was white with black painting, and it was really awesome.
23:45I think she did a great job on it, so I'm trying to take inspo from that.
23:50I like this one.
23:51I just feel like this isn't doing it for me.
23:55I feel like we go darker, like almost the black on black.
23:59Like, I like this.
24:00It's pretty.
24:01I don't know.
24:01I just feel like maybe this is too busy.
24:04I just want very clean-looking, very elegant and chic.
24:08This is reminding me of the white countertop with black veining that she had, but flip-flopped.
24:15I love the leathered black with the white veining.
24:19Madison likes black, which so do I, so I love that.
24:22I feel like this is going to look so good with those black stained cabinets.
24:25So Walker's sick, but I finally got her down for a nap.
24:36I am sitting down, trying to get some work done.
24:39My goal is to order plumbing fixtures for Madison's house.
24:44I just have to keep things rolling, even if I can't be on site today.
24:49Look at that.
24:50Woo!
24:51Would you look at that?
24:53So today, one part of the team is down.
24:55So I just got to leave the charge.
24:57No.
24:57Look.
24:58Call me.
24:59Just because I'm not there doesn't mean you just go ahead and make decisions without me.
25:04That is terrifying.
25:05That is the risk you take.
25:11Hey.
25:12Excited to see these.
25:15Ooh, these are fun.
25:17Those are kind of different.
25:17It's like an upgraded shiplap.
25:20I don't know exactly what Chelsea wants done with these,
25:22because our youngest is home sick today, throwing up.
25:26Hello.
25:27Hi.
25:28Hi.
25:29How are things going?
25:30Okay.
25:31We're working on these, like, slats.
25:33I know you wanted them by the fireplace.
25:34Okay.
25:35Looks great.
25:36Okay, yeah.
25:37Beautiful.
25:37She said she likes sleek and modern, so I kind of thought it'd be cool if it was just the whole wall.
25:43So, you know, in her old office, she had all that wood paneling, so it's like a new modern version.
25:48Do you have any idea what color you want to paint these slats?
25:51I was hoping to be able to see a person to make that decision, but obviously I can't today.
25:55What if you just trust me on the color?
25:58No, absolutely not.
25:59I don't blame that.
26:00No offense in us.
26:01Whatever.
26:02I want the room to feel as big and tall as possible.
26:10Before, it was literally just a rectangle with no character at all, so I think adding this in is going to add some texture,
26:16it's going to add some interest, and then the fireplace is going to give that cozy vibe.
26:19I'll show you the office coming together.
26:22Cute.
26:23The desk is going in.
26:24There's one more piece.
26:24How's it feel in there?
26:25Honestly, it feels great.
26:27It's a good size.
26:28Feels like a really good space.
26:29And the doors I got are going to be perfect because I feel like Madison needs privacy, obviously,
26:36but she has to be able to kind of like see out.
26:38She's a single mom and has to be able to see her kids.
26:40For sure.
26:41So the door I got is like this pretty glass door.
26:45Ooh.
26:46So she'll be able to shut out some noise, but she can see if her kids are trying to like escape or something.
26:52And it's super cute because it's two French doors.
26:55Ooh, I love that.
26:56So it's going to look really elevated too.
26:58Moment of truth.
26:59Moment of truth.
27:00Boom.
27:15Goose, do not judge me.
27:17Oh, hi.
27:18She seems to be feeling better.
27:20Would you like some wine?
27:21Please.
27:24Walker, honey, do you want a snack?
27:26No.
27:26All right, did you grab those samples?
27:28Well, yeah.
27:30So this is going to go on the paneling on the wall and then also on the fireplace surround.
27:36Can I paint you?
27:38You can use this paint.
27:39Put a paper towel under it.
27:41The only paint that's in the cap.
27:42Her kitchen is very black.
27:45I want to go with a nice off-white for the living room just to keep it really bright and family friendly.
27:50That's pretty.
27:50Like, all of these colors are pretty, but what if we just paint the panels just the wall color, just that kind of off-white?
27:58And then also maybe painting the fireplace the same color as that and just have it one whole cohesive look.
28:04It's a texture accent wall.
28:07It's not, like, a color accent wall.
28:08I absolutely like that idea.
28:09Look at that.
28:10It's probably going to be way easier for the painters, too.
28:13Oh, yeah, for sure.
28:14Yeah.
28:15Remember when tonight was supposed to be date night?
28:17These are date nights.
28:19Hovering over chaos.
28:20Cheers.
28:22Cheers.
28:23Cheers.
28:23Cheers, guys.
28:24I am practicing driving with Aubrey.
28:34She's driving my truck right now.
28:36I feel like anyone could drive out in the country, so she's got to learn how to drive in town on a real street.
28:42So, Aubrey's almost 15.
28:44She's about to get her driver's license.
28:46Crazy.
28:47Watch out for that car.
28:49Yep, there you go.
28:50I'm happy for her to get her license.
28:52I'm excited for her, but it's also terrifying.
28:55She doesn't keep her room clean.
28:56She can barely microwave chicken nuggets.
28:59First off, she can go drive around town.
29:01If there's a stop sign, what do you do?
29:03Oh, you can't stop.
29:06To be a good parent, you have to release control a little bit.
29:10Yeah.
29:11And that is so, so terrifying.
29:15And I don't like it.
29:18Don't look when you're driving.
29:20Come on.
29:22Why don't you know her?
29:26Yeah.
29:27Oh, my gosh.
29:28Can you get out?
29:29I can squeeze, I think.
29:30Oh, shoot.
29:31It's tight quarters.
29:34Jeez.
29:36This is a very cold fall day.
29:38There's an old saying.
29:39It's like, if you don't like the weather, wait 20 minutes.
29:42Two days ago, it was like 35.
29:44Today, it's like, what, nine?
29:45All right.
29:46We got lights.
29:46I got to return whichever one of these we don't use tomorrow.
29:49Okay.
29:50I just want to make sure that the dining table light just matches the rest of the vibe.
29:55I want it to be cool, modern, but have, like, a little hint of glam that's going to really
30:00fit into the space.
30:01Dang, that one's so cool.
30:03I think it's way too big.
30:05It's too small.
30:06That's actually way too small, honey.
30:09I think this one's too big and that one's too small.
30:11I think you have to return both and get one right in the middle.
30:14I really don't have time to get a whole new light.
30:18Can you hold this up one more time?
30:21I just feel like it extends too far this way.
30:24Move the arms so it's like almost a linear light.
30:27And this lady goes back a little.
30:29There.
30:31That is cool.
30:32You like this?
30:32Then I think it's going to be over the table.
30:34It's not butting out into the kitchen area.
30:36Right.
30:37Then there's no panic.
30:39No, I was panicking.
30:40Don't panic.
30:40But then, solutions nonstop.
30:43Cool.
30:44Somehow, I feel $500 richer just because I was able to return it.
30:48Now I have $500 extra to spend on myself.
30:51So that's not how it works.
30:52Yes, it is.
30:53It's like girl math.
30:53All right, our store event is in one day.
31:02We're in full rental mode up in here.
31:05This incident kind of made us stronger as business owners
31:07because your first year of opening a store is absolute chaos anyway,
31:12including having a car go through your building now
31:15and you having to deal with that within the first three months of being open
31:19is kind of a hurdle that I'm proud of us being able to jump over.
31:23Oh my gosh, I love it.
31:34I'm so glad I went with the white and just did the wall color.
31:37It's awesome.
31:38I think it looks so like clean and modern and so nice.
31:41I have been obsessed with this wall.
31:43I'm kind of inspired by it.
31:44So you know my bench that I'm building for the kitchen.
31:47Yes.
31:48I kind of wanted to wrap the bench in something.
31:50Okay.
31:52So.
31:52Did you have that in your pocket those times?
31:54Yeah, I did.
31:55You want to wrap the bench in that?
31:57I love that.
31:58I kind of go with this wall.
31:59I think that looks good.
32:01Look at you having great ideas.
32:03Cole has about a 60% success rate on his ideas.
32:09Wow.
32:09That was generous.
32:11I was going to say about 90% of them never landed.
32:20Seeing Madison's Kitchen come together, I think it's looking amazing.
32:24We went really modern on the cabinet fronts.
32:28Doing a backsplash in that little mom hub area is going to add that little va-va-voom that
32:33we needed in that space.
32:34I found this one.
32:36It's kind of hard to see in the video, but it's really cool.
32:38It's like an antiqued mirror.
32:40What up?
32:41It's going to look so good in that little nook we're going to put it.
32:45And I think it's the perfect little addition to that spot.
32:53Oh my God, I got so much crap.
32:54It's not even funny.
32:55We did our best here.
32:57Created something that we love and we created it with our vision.
33:00Put a bunch of money, time, and everything into it.
33:04I want this to do well.
33:06I'm freaking out.
33:08I don't want you to be stressed.
33:09I am.
33:11This is a big deal.
33:12It's a huge deal.
33:13I think we just embrace the crazy now and just let the day happen.
33:16I know.
33:17I try to live in these moments and this is something that we work hard for.
33:21Yeah.
33:21And it's here.
33:23And so I'm trying to tell myself to enjoy being in the moment.
33:26Absolutely.
33:27You know?
33:28That's all you can do.
33:29People will come.
33:30Okay.
33:31All right?
33:32Yes.
33:33Now let's go enjoy the day.
33:37Hi, guys.
33:38How's everyone feeling?
33:39Are we stressed?
33:40I am not.
33:42I was a teen mom.
33:44There was a sense of feeling like when you are a teen mom, that's what you are.
33:50From that moment, I wanted to be a better mom than what people expected me to be.
33:55And then I also wanted to be something and do something with my life.
33:58I just want to kick ass.
34:01Opening a business, I feel like people in Sioux Falls are taking us more seriously.
34:05The connections that we're making, it's just like a really cool feeling that I maybe didn't
34:10believe that I would ever be able to do.
34:12Ready?
34:12Okay.
34:14All right.
34:17Great.
34:17Let's do this.
34:18Woo!
34:19Woo!
34:19Everything changes, everything changes when you're far enough, when you're far enough.
34:27We came from Chicago.
34:31We did get wiped out.
34:33I mean, we stole a lot of things.
34:34It was crazy.
34:35Is there anyone we have that can start restocking?
34:38Yes.
34:39Like, I didn't think I would get emotional.
34:41I don't get emotional very often.
34:44Hi!
34:45Oh!
34:45Stop.
34:46I love you.
34:47It just felt really cool to feel supported and feel like people wanted to come check out
34:53what we have built.
34:54I would have never, ever in my entire life expected this.
34:59I would have never dreamed of today turning out how it has.
35:02No.
35:03This is your vision that came to life, and we're just trying to make it happen.
35:07I love you.
35:08I love you, too.
35:12We can start over.
35:15We'll get it right.
35:17We've been really focused on the store, but now we have to deliver a beautiful space back
35:22to Madison.
35:23Sofa here.
35:25Okay.
35:26It looks good.
35:27I love the velvet sofa in here.
35:29And then two chairs here.
35:31Did you see all the mustaches happening in this house right now?
35:34Should have let mine go a little bit.
35:36Oh, my gosh.
35:37There's just thick old mustaches all around.
35:39Let's just say mustaches are trending.
35:41It is a mustache party.
35:43Let's go!
35:43All these trees are here, and I see them.
35:49Running circles when you're now with me.
35:52It is move-in day for Madison.
35:54It is freezing.
35:55I mean, out of nowhere, it starts snowing.
35:58Just a light dusting, but I'm feeling excited.
36:02Oh, yeah.
36:02A little nervous.
36:03I always get nervous.
36:04I'm so proud of how Madison's house turned out.
36:07She likes taking on projects herself.
36:09She's a DIYer.
36:10But having three kids, being a single mom, and dealing with the health issues that Madison
36:15has, like, she doesn't have the time or energy to get these done.
36:18So it really means a lot for us to come in and just take that off her plate.
36:22I'm sure she is more than ready to get back to her house.
36:28Hi, Madison.
36:29Hi.
36:30How are you?
36:31Both.
36:32How are you?
36:33Hug me.
36:33Warm me up.
36:34So excited.
36:35Are you nervous?
36:36Are you happy?
36:37I feel like my stomach's in my throat.
36:38Okay.
36:39It's been a challenge.
36:41Has it?
36:41Yeah.
36:42Three kids moving out into a home that's not their home.
36:45Yeah.
36:45For sure.
36:46And then my health on top of it just makes it a little, actually, a lot harder.
36:50We're just ready to get back inside our house.
36:52All right.
36:53We could not be happier to be here now.
36:55Yes.
36:56Giving you your space back.
36:57So if you're ready, we can head on in.
37:00Let's go.
37:01Okay.
37:01Let's go inside.
37:02Let's do it.
37:02Let's go.
37:09This is my home.
37:13Yes.
37:16Go, go, go, go, go.
37:18Go in.
37:18Go in.
37:25Wow.
37:27I'm speechless, actually.
37:30It feels like brand new, like a brand new house.
37:32My kids are going to freak out.
37:34We just wanted to keep this room feeling very light and bright.
37:38Wanted to make sure it still felt welcoming and homey.
37:41We didn't obviously change a wall or take out any walls.
37:45It really was just paint this accent wall, the fireplace, and floors, which is very welcoming.
37:51Even the green.
37:52Yeah.
37:52You know, I didn't even think about a deep green and I just, it just fits.
37:55Yay.
37:56I thought you are luxurious.
37:58Yes.
37:59We should do some green velvet.
38:00And the fireplace, I got to check it out.
38:02Yeah, yeah.
38:02Come check out the fireplace.
38:04It adds such a homey.
38:05Oh, for sure.
38:06Feeling.
38:06I also feel like it anchors a room.
38:10Yeah.
38:10I love flats.
38:12I've been seeing mostly wood, but the white was a very good choice.
38:15Also, there's no more carpet.
38:17Thank goodness.
38:18Yeah.
38:19Okay.
38:19Well, there's a lot more house.
38:21Oh, yeah.
38:23Wow.
38:25You're lying.
38:26One, two, three, and all is all right.
38:30And I hope, but I hope, but I hope that it's life.
38:33Have a seat.
38:34Yeah.
38:35Have a seat.
38:35I'm going to have to.
38:38This is beautiful.
38:39Do you love?
38:41Yes.
38:41Oh, my goodness.
38:43There's even this bench.
38:44You did so good on your bench.
38:46Yeah.
38:46Okay.
38:47I just took your bench idea and just put my pin on it and created you a different one.
38:52Ten, actually, a hundred times better.
38:54I was like, I picked leather because I thought easy wipe down, easy clean with the kiddos.
38:58And a bench just makes sense for the space.
39:00It really does.
39:00Yeah.
39:01It fits the best.
39:02I was feeling inspired by the slat wall out there.
39:05That's why I put this reeded front on.
39:06But I did try and keep some storage for you.
39:09So there's a drawer on the end and there's one underneath.
39:12Wow.
39:13It doesn't feel like the same room.
39:14No.
39:14It feels bigger.
39:15It's not any bigger.
39:16Just getting rid of the peninsula that was here, it widened up a lot.
39:20Oh, for sure.
39:21There's no fridge there, so, you know, it just flows.
39:27Okay, okay, okay, yes.
39:28Oh, yes.
39:29This is your mom hub.
39:31You can put your drinks, your snacks, kind of fun that it lifts up.
39:35And then also make a spot for the kids to keep their snacks.
39:39Easy grab.
39:40Oh, my goodness.
39:41I love this tile.
39:42Do you?
39:43I do.
39:43I don't know if I would have picked it myself.
39:45So thank you for doing it for me.
39:47Yes, of course.
39:48Even the lighting.
39:49You are a little glam.
39:50It was the perfect glam moment for your kitchen.
39:53Like, it's not overpowering.
39:54Yeah.
39:55You have such a vibe to you.
39:57And so we wanted to bring that vibe into the kitchen and just do, like, very sleek,
40:01very minimal, but really luxe and really elegant.
40:06I love it.
40:06You do?
40:07I do.
40:07I do love it.
40:09That's amazing.
40:09Yay!
40:10That is the best.
40:12So let's take a little journey back in time, thinking about what was your office.
40:16It was falling off the house.
40:18Right.
40:19And I'm really excited about what we were able to create with the space that we had.
40:24Mm-hmm.
40:25So if you're ready, we can go see your office.
40:28Oh, man.
40:36It's perfect.
40:37Yeah.
40:38This is super cute.
40:39And built-in-ed-ed-ed-ed.
40:41Built-ins.
40:42It's kind of wild.
40:43We're all in this slab that was, like, original to this house.
40:46Mm-hmm.
40:46Yeah.
40:46Not the one that was added on, sinking.
40:48There you go.
40:49Soak it in.
40:50I'll keep this here forever, too.
40:51Okay, good.
40:52Yeah.
40:53It really turned out to be a great functional space.
40:55Yeah.
40:55That was also hard to imagine.
40:57Same.
40:58I mean, it was hard to lose that square footage, but it would have been a lot of problems in
41:02the years to come if you continued on in this house.
41:05Yeah.
41:05So I'm glad we got rid of it.
41:10Of course.
41:10Yeah.
41:11I...
41:12Oh, gosh.
41:16You're welcome.
41:16You deserve it so much.
41:19I think that's something that, you know, you try to take into, like, yes, I do.
41:23You do.
41:24And, oh, there's so much more going to come.
41:26A hundred percent.
41:27You know?
41:27Yeah.
41:27This is the beginning of so much more.
41:30Yeah.
41:31Really?
41:31Yeah.
41:31Yeah.
41:31Yeah.
41:31Yeah.
41:33Giving Madison her house back is also putting closure on a lot of things that we went through
41:37personally during this project.
41:40Mm-hmm.
41:40Like we always say, we thrive in the chaos.
41:43This was a little more chaotic than expected, but we were thriving.
41:47No, not every day.
41:49But who's thriving every day, okay?
41:51Nobody.
41:52He is.
41:53He's just happy all the time.
41:55He's just happy to be here.
41:56We're here.
41:57No.
41:57No.
41:57No.
41:57No.
41:57No.
41:58No.
41:59No.
41:59No.
42:00No.
42:00No.
42:01No.
