01:00So we're spending the summer riding a spectacular loop through 17 of our closest neighbours.
01:06Starting at my house in Scotland, we'll cross over to the continent, travel up through the Nordics and into the Arctic Circle,
01:13down to the Baltics before winding our way through the Alps and across France, returning home about two months later.
01:18And we're going to throw caution to the wind by doing the journey on temperamental 50-year-old bikes that have been given a new lease of life.
01:29My bike's making funny noise.
01:30Riding alongside them on the third motorcycle are cameraman Claudio and Max, and the guys will also be taking personal diary cameras.
01:40Russ and I will be following behind with a small crew and two electric trucks, only meeting up with the guys when necessary.
01:46So, this summer, Europe is our playground.
01:51Wow!
01:51And we're going to follow our noses and see what we find on the open road.
01:56I like carrying everything I need on the bike, riding bikes. I've just never tired of it. I love it so much.
02:08When else do you get the chance, day after day, to just hang and be with a friend that you like hanging out with? I love it.
02:19We've been on the road for over six weeks since we left my house in Scotland.
02:23Today, we're saying goodbye to Lithuania and riding into Poland, known as the geographical and cultural crossroads of Eastern and Western Europe.
02:34Four minutes to the Polish border.
02:36Polish border, Polish border, coming up.
02:41This is a border here.
02:43Welcome to Poland, everybody.
02:46Welcome to Poland!
02:48Hello, hello, hello. Thank you.
02:52Oh, my arse is numb!
03:00All right, ladies and gentlemen, here we are.
03:02This is the biggest city in northern Poland, it's called.
03:07How do you pronounce this town we're in?
03:09Biawi-staka.
03:10Biawi-staka.
03:11Biawi-staka.
03:12This is how it's spelled, but it's pronounced in a very different way.
03:17We know how to say the name of the town we're in, which is probably a first.
03:20It is a first, I think.
03:21You know, this could be a new leaf.
03:24Biawi-staka.
03:26It's a difficult one to pronounce and remember.
03:28Biawi-staka.
03:30Yeah, it's very nice.
03:32But it's nice to be in Poland.
03:33I've not really been here before, so it's another tick.
03:37This is the Versailles of Eastern Europe.
03:43It's that pretty, this building.
03:45Apparently the city's medical university is based here now.
03:48Oh.
03:50Look, it's a beautiful ball up here.
03:53Oh, yeah, that gold ball.
03:55That's lovely.
03:57Oh, look, it's got a moat.
04:00Oh.
04:00Do you know what this reminds me of?
04:04Oh, my God, it's like the...
04:06It's like the movie that we met each other in.
04:08Yeah.
04:09But it was sort of like this.
04:11But it was these little hedges in, like, very tight manicured style like that.
04:22I played a pretend Dutch garden designer and designed a garden just like this.
04:29I was an informant, wasn't I?
04:31At one point, I pushed Charlie up against a wall, and I had a plume in my hand.
04:34But do please keep your performance within the bounds of credibility.
04:39I am yours, X.
04:42Your master forced me into this.
04:44His motives are his alone.
04:46But the designs of this garden are mine.
04:48And it's quite hard to do that without hurting somebody.
04:50So that's where we sort of bonded, I think.
04:53Sticking things up our noses.
04:55One of our first conversations was about motorcycles.
04:58Yeah, that's right.
04:59Because then the next bike I got was the Ducati, wasn't it?
05:02You brought the Ducati, the 748.
05:04We've come full circle.
05:06Full circle.
05:10This has been amazing.
05:13Sticking things up our noses.
05:15We're just heading to Warsaw now.
05:25These long way trips we do, I always forget it's a long way.
05:34Here we go, mate.
05:35This is it.
05:37This is it, mate.
05:37Whoo.
05:43Look at the old town.
05:44It's absolutely beautiful.
05:48We made it.
05:49Can't wait to explore this place.
05:51As much as we love spending every waking moment together,
06:04sometimes it's nice to do things on your own.
06:07So this morning, we're exploring the city separately.
06:10So, here we are.
06:12I've never been to this place.
06:13I've always wanted to be here.
06:15Warsaw.
06:16It's an amazing history.
06:17But they nicknamed this place the city of the Phoenix
06:19because it keeps being destroyed
06:21and keeps rising from the ashes.
06:30This is dedicated to all the fallen Polish soldiers.
06:37It's very respectful, isn't it,
06:38to have the flames, the guards, to remember.
06:46We all know the history of Poland
06:50and the history of Warsaw is a devastating one.
06:55So, so many of these buildings were rebuilt
06:58after the Germans flattened everything.
07:00They did incredible jobs of rebuilding.
07:05Extraordinary.
07:11I've been here once before.
07:13Years ago, I shot a film here.
07:15We made this sort of Polish gangster-y type movie
07:19where I was a sort of James Bond-y character, I guess.
07:22But it was wintertime, you know, it was just before Christmas.
07:24And there was this whole area was all winter markets.
07:28So we stayed down that way.
07:30But anyway, that was the last time I was here,
07:31being James Bond in a gangster movie.
07:38Look at that, Winnie the Pooh in Polish.
07:39I played Christopher Robin, yeah?
07:45I like playing Christopher Robin a lot.
07:50One of the biggest things that they do here is food.
07:53Food is really important to the Polish,
07:56and then they have these dumplings, which are super famous.
07:59So I'm going to do a little bit of dumpling cooking.
08:01I love cooking, so this should be fun.
08:04I love cooking, so this should be fun.
08:05I love cooking, so this should be fun.
08:06Hello.
08:07The plan for today is really simple.
08:09You will try yourself and make the best, best pierogi
08:12you can find in Ho-Warsha, right?
08:14That's pierogi.
08:15I like the word pierogi.
08:16How does it sound?
08:17Pierogi sounds great.
08:18Sounds good.
08:18My stomach is saying, yes, please.
08:20Yes, it is.
08:21So pierogi is the most popular Polish dish, right?
08:25Okay, the recipe for a dough is really simple.
08:28You have eggs, some flour, oil, water, and salt.
08:33Let's cook it, okay.
08:35Oh, a lot of salt.
08:37Oh, my God, yeah.
08:37I suppose that makes sense.
08:39She knows what she's doing.
08:41She, like, made thousands and thousands of pierogi.
08:47How many pierogi will you make a day?
08:50800 for one person, and we have, like, two or three usually.
08:54Doing it.
08:55That's a lot of pierogi.
08:56The secret to our success lies love in manual craftsmanship
09:01and only best ingredients, right?
09:03Today we have potatoes and quark cheese.
09:07And you need to make sure you put it right inside of the dough, right?
09:11In the middle.
09:12Yeah, yeah.
09:13This is like a mini Cornish pasty.
09:18You make this worse because there is filling at the border.
09:23Damn it.
09:23Unbelievable.
09:26You can have sweet or savory.
09:28That's the dessert one.
09:30It's blueberries and some sugar.
09:32That's mine.
09:33And look, this is her plump one.
09:37Should we cook some of these then?
09:39See if these survive?
09:41The typical way to cook pierogi is to boil them in salted water, right?
09:45So these ones are the ones that we made.
09:49I think this one is mine.
09:50You need to choose the ugliest.
09:52It should be yours.
09:52The ugliest is mine.
09:56Here we go.
09:56Well, it's delicious.
10:00The potato with the dumpling.
10:01It's very good.
10:03I'm going to go and feed the whole crew now.
10:06Got dumplings for Ewan?
10:12Beautiful.
10:12God, look at this.
10:16You can imagine it in a movie, you know, all grey.
10:21People coming in on their raincoats in the rain, their briefcases.
10:24You know, everyone's getting stamped in and stamped out.
10:26Oh, it's nice, that breeze.
10:28It was quite hot today.
10:31Ah, I really enjoyed this morning.
10:33It's good to be off the bike for a bit.
10:34But now it's time to go back and meet up with Charlie.
10:41Sometimes I'm not in control of it.
10:44It just comes to me.
10:45After exploring the city, our afternoon is going to be spent visiting our friends from
11:08UNICEF.
11:09We've been UNICEF ambassadors for all these years, for 20 years.
11:12It's a big part of our lives, Charlie and I.
11:15I'm looking forward to another UNICEF project.
11:17It's very much to do with what's happening in Ukraine at the moment.
11:22Poland and Ukraine share both a border and a long, close relationship.
11:27At the peak of the war, Poland took in over 3.5 million refugees from its neighbour.
11:35They're trying to make a temporary new life in Poland.
11:45Oh, wow.
11:45Hello, hello, hi.
11:46Hiya, how are you?
11:49This centre is a safe place where children of all ages can play, while their parents access
11:54advice and support about education or healthcare so they can better integrate into life in Poland.
12:00I'm a little three-year-old boy, so this is going to make me feel really homesick today.
12:06Would you like to play?
12:07Yeah, I'd like to play.
12:08Can I join in?
12:09Okay, let's go.
12:12Okay, little red riding hood.
12:14Since opening in 2022, over 28,000 Ukrainian refugees have got help from this centre.
12:21Your mummy here?
12:22In Poland?
12:23Mama.
12:23Yeah, okay, that's good.
12:25Bye-bye.
12:25Nice to meet you both.
12:27Hello.
12:29Hello, can we come in?
12:30Hi, guys, hi.
12:31Hiya, hello.
12:32The art therapy session, we actually get to know each other better and also create this
12:38safe space for sharing.
12:40My name is Fetia, I am 16 years old.
12:43It's a lot of space in Ukraine since the war started.
12:47As you can see, everything is burning.
12:49The zone is in the middle.
12:53You can imagine the disruption to their education and to their lives.
13:04It's massive.
13:06It's quite powerful, isn't it?
13:09Yeah, for sure.
13:14Two strong emotions.
13:17One is the terrible sadness of what they've gone through.
13:20And the other side of it is the kids are always really fun and resilient and uplifting,
13:26you know?
13:27You were happy with this?
13:28Okay.
13:29Lovely.
13:29Hello, Valeria.
13:31You love fluffy clouds.
13:33Okay, it's good.
13:34It's okay.
13:35Let's try.
13:37Oh, very good.
13:38Oh, dude, do you want to have a look?
13:40Look here.
13:40Yeah.
13:42It's okay?
13:43Thank you very much.
13:45Here, you can do one on your end now.
13:47Okay.
13:50Uh-oh.
13:53What is it?
13:54What is it?
13:54What is it?
13:56What is it?
13:56What is it?
13:56What is it?
13:56What is it?
13:57What is it?
13:57Sparkles.
13:58Sparkles.
13:58Sparkles.
13:59Sparkles.
13:59Oh, very nice.
14:02Very good.
14:04Could you tell us what it was like when you had to leave?
14:07It must have been unbelievable not to know where to go or what to do.
14:21This center has a huge importance and impact in our lives because actually here we feel safe and it gives me some hope for the future.
14:30That's wonderful.
14:31Wonderful.
14:31Thank you so much.
14:32Yeah, cheers.
14:34Thank you very much.
14:35It's lovely to meet you.
14:36Thank you very much.
14:37Yeah.
14:42It was quite an inspiring place, just terrible to think of kids who are away from their home, but they don't want to be away from home.
14:50But what UNICEF does is give these children a place where they're allowed to be kids again, and that's so important.
15:01Leaving Warsaw, we're headed to Krakow. For 500 years, it was Poland's capital. It's a three and a half hour ride, and we've decided to visit Hencini Royal Castle on the way.
15:13This place was built as a fortress in the 1300s, and was once a home to Polish royalty.
15:26Oh, look. Lights of the realm.
15:27Now, what you have on these carvings are some spectacular moustaches.
15:32I mean, he's got a funny sort of shocked-looking face.
15:34Yeah. Good Lord!
15:35Good Lord. Run for your lives, for God's sake.
15:38We've got to go all the way up there, man.
15:40Oh, God.
15:41Isn't there a lift?
15:42He's going to get up there, and they're going to say,
15:43We're closed.
15:44Shut up, 5.30.
15:45Can you imagine bringing all this stone to the top of this hill when you're building it?
15:50Yeah.
15:51And then the guy goes,
15:53Actually, I want a third turret.
15:55And they're all going,
15:57What?
15:58The third one?
15:59Well, that's a change of order, mate.
16:00That's going to be...
16:01That's going to cost you, mate.
16:02That's going to cost you, yeah.
16:03Free turrets.
16:04Oh.
16:05Well, let me just...
16:07Oh, look at the view, though.
16:08Wow.
16:09That's nice.
16:10Wow.
16:11It's just worth it just for that, isn't it?
16:15I do believe we can get up to the top of the turret.
16:19Oh, God.
16:20I'm sorry.
16:21Let's do it.
16:23You'll have to go up the tower on your own, though, I'm afraid.
16:26On my own?
16:27Okay.
16:28All right.
16:29Because obviously I'd come with you, but I'm all tied up right now, so...
16:30Okay.
16:31I won't be able to.
16:32It's all tied up.
16:33All right.
16:34I'll be good, mate.
16:35See you, mate.
16:36Okay.
16:37Bye.
16:38Let me know when you get to the top.
16:39Okay.
16:40Oh.
16:41Oh.
16:42I'm coming.
16:43Let's do it.
16:44Feel the burn.
16:45Feel the burn, man.
16:46Ah.
16:47Oh, my gosh.
16:48Wow.
16:49Oh.
16:50Oh.
16:51My legs are feeling so good at the moment.
16:53Well done, Charlie.
16:54That was fast.
16:55Yeah.
16:56I mean, I was tired and felt the burn, but I could do it.
16:59I've not been able to do that since 2016.
17:01Wow.
17:02Which direction are we going here?
17:03Oh, my gosh.
17:04Oh, my gosh.
17:05Wow.
17:06Oh, my gosh.
17:07Wow.
17:08Oh.
17:09Oh.
17:10Oh.
17:11Oh.
17:12Oh.
17:13Oh.
17:14Oh.
17:15Oh.
17:16Oh.
17:17Oh.
17:18Oh.
17:19Oh.
17:20Well, there's the motorway.
17:21I think we're going...
17:22I feel like we're going that way.
17:24But we might be going that way.
17:26If you're ready.
17:27Yeah, let's get out of here.
17:28Go down to, um, Krakow.
17:29Krakow.
17:36Now, we've got 92 miles.
17:38It's one hour 35.
17:39Let's...
17:40Let's...
17:41Make it beautiful.
17:42Make a beautiful man, okay?
17:45We've been in the saddle for 48 days, and we've got 10 more days of our journey to go.
17:51We're on our way to Krakow, known for its beautiful architecture, and for being one of the more creative cities in Poland.
17:58I've been planning to get this bit of my tattoo. I got a new tattoo recently in Atlanta, but I think I might get it done here.
18:05We've got to get to Krakow, see what's going down. Get out of the country and get into town.
18:18All right, boys.
18:20Yeah, I'm almost there.
18:22Whew.
18:26Krakow.
18:27Krakow.
18:28War cracker.
18:33Oh.
18:34I think it's here.
18:35We're here.
18:44It's a beautiful day. It's a beautiful city, full of Baroque and Gothic architecture.
18:49You know, it feels like the whole place is a museum.
18:55Look where I am at the moment. Look how beautiful this square is.
19:00Good morning.
19:02We're in Krakow, and I thought, oh, go ahead and get my tattoo. So I texted Charlie and said, I'm going to get my tattoo finished.
19:12And Charlie said, I'm going to have one.
19:14I don't know if it's the right thing to do, and her wife was saying she doesn't pay much of the idea at all.
19:22Do I really want to do it?
19:24Ooh la la. Ooh la la.
19:27I'm a little, a little nervous.
19:30But I'm really glad that Ewan is going to be there with me.
19:34Oh, yes, it does it. It does it.
19:36Okay.
19:41Please pass.
19:44Hey guys. Morning.
19:46How are you? Nice to see you.
19:47Morning, morning, morning.
19:49Hi guys.
19:50How are you? Nice to see you. Hi.
19:51Charlie. Hi.
19:52I'm Peter. How are you?
19:53I wanted the words safe and home.
19:55In here safe, and in here home.
19:58And then Charlie's never had a tattoo, and he suddenly thought he wanted a tattoo.
20:02But I wanted to do a spark plug.
20:04I wanted to have the initials of my wife and my two children, so...
20:09My wife is not so keen, but my kids love the idea.
20:11Oh, they'll certainly love it.
20:12I love it.
20:14It's going to stay for the rest of your life, but don't think too much about it.
20:17It's a little nice.
20:19What happened?
20:21I love that.
20:22You look like this all the time.
20:24I did it. No, I'm joking.
20:26I'm not surprised.
20:28That'd be great.
20:29That's beautiful, man.
20:30That's lovely.
20:31That's it.
20:32Oh, Charlie.
20:33That looks great.
20:34I'd kind of like the spark to sit slightly in the scar.
20:36Oh, it's dark.
20:37What's this?
20:38Oh, I cut my crap.
20:39Look.
20:40My forearm was snapped backwards, and the bones came out.
20:42Oh, it's one of many.
20:43If he starts to show you, we'll be here for a long time.
20:45Oh, okay.
20:46Yeah.
20:47Perfect.
20:48So, who's going first?
20:49I'll go first.
20:55It's getting closer for my turn now.
20:57Woo-hoo!
21:05You nailed it.
21:06Thank you very much.
21:07Yeah.
21:08You've made it fit really beautifully.
21:10That's it, guys, isn't it?
21:11That's great.
21:12Because it's just...
21:13It's slightly its own thing, and it's still part of the...
21:15It's great.
21:18I love it.
21:21It's good.
21:22That's the process.
21:23That's the process.
21:24It's only on there for the rest of your life, so...
21:26Yeah.
21:27Don't tell me about loving it.
21:28Don't tell me about loving it.
21:29Yeah, don't tell me about loving it.
21:30Good.
21:31All right, Charlie.
21:32All right.
21:33Trust me.
21:36OK, Charlie.
21:37There you go.
21:38Yeah.
21:39OK, there's no...
21:41No going back now.
21:42No, that's it.
21:43I've always imagined having my wife and my children on my arm.
21:48It doesn't hurt that much.
21:50It's not so bad.
21:51No.
21:52It's all right, isn't it?
21:56No, it hurts more.
21:57It's just...
21:59It's just...
22:00Oh!
22:01Oh!
22:02Wow.
22:07I'm happy.
22:08I'm really happy with it.
22:09Wow.
22:10Wow.
22:11Holy moly.
22:12Look at that.
22:14Jeez.
22:15That's incredible.
22:16Like it?
22:17Yeah.
22:18By this time next year, Charlie's going to be covered in tattoos, I think.
22:21You know?
22:22Wow.
22:23Oui.
22:24That's outrageous.
22:25Wow.
22:27I think this trip for me has been a real eye-opener.
22:30I just suddenly thought, you know what?
22:32This is probably the time to do it.
22:34Brilliant.
22:35Thank you, brother.
22:36Thank you so much.
22:37We'll keep in touch and we'll see you all again.
22:38Yeah, we'll keep in touch and we'll see you all again.
22:39Thanks, mate.
22:40Thanks a lot.
22:44I've definitely come back here with Ollie and the girls, actually.
22:48What about me?
22:49What about me?
22:50Well, we're all going to come back together.
22:53That's right.
22:54And we're going to do it.
22:55And then if you just twist this tattoo here, if you just twist it round, it says Ewan.
23:01On the back.
23:02On the back, it says Ewan.
23:03I suppose to do that.
23:06Wow.
23:07Look at this.
23:08Holy moly.
23:09Well, listen.
23:11Those statues are stunning.
23:12God, it's spectacular, isn't it?
23:13Beautiful.
23:15Just beautiful.
23:17Goodness me, I've never seen those instruments before.
23:19What are those?
23:22Interesting that they're playing the chords on the...
23:25That's just the bass notes.
23:26On the ones on the left.
23:28But they're not...
23:30Yeah, what does that do?
23:31They're not playing them.
23:32I don't know what that does.
23:33Don't know either.
23:35Oh, beautiful.
23:39Very nice.
23:40Ukrainian instruments.
23:41Ukrainian?
23:42Yeah, from Ukraine.
23:43Are you from Ukraine?
23:44Yes.
23:45Oh, nice to see you.
23:46Yeah, lovely.
23:47It's beautiful music.
23:49Yeah.
23:50We're so sorry what's happening in Ukraine.
23:51I'm so sorry.
23:53Yeah.
23:54Yeah, exactly.
23:55Oh, beautiful.
23:56Well, we'll let you play.
23:57It's beautiful.
23:58Nice to meet you.
24:02It's an amazing town, Krakow.
24:04It's really a nice walking around town.
24:06There's a really nice vibe everywhere.
24:08You're going to love this next place I've found.
24:11It's just here on the right.
24:12I just love the idea of a pinball museum.
24:15It's all here.
24:16Yeah.
24:17Yeah.
24:18Our generation.
24:19It was a bigger thing, really, for us, wasn't it?
24:20Right.
24:21It was in a pub or...
24:22Yeah.
24:23Yeah.
24:24But now...
24:25Pinball.
24:26Well, your student played it.
24:27Your student played it, yeah.
24:28Maybe you sit because of your legs.
24:29You probably do sit down to play pinball.
24:33Wow!
24:35That was below the belt.
24:36Literally.
24:37Oh, my God.
24:38Let's have a look.
24:39This is huge.
24:40I love it.
24:41Oh, it's been a while since I've played.
24:44Ooh!
24:45Ooh!
24:46Ooh!
24:47Ooh!
24:48Ooh!
24:49Ooh!
24:50Ooh!
24:51Ooh!
24:52Ooh!
24:53Ooh!
24:54Ooh!
24:55Ooh!
24:56Ah!
24:57Oh, yeah.
24:58Oh, you've got to play this one, Charlie.
25:00Oh, lost that one.
25:03I'm not very good at this.
25:04That was good.
25:05I actually forgot how much I like pinball machines.
25:08It's fun, isn't it?
25:09Oh, oh, oh, oh!
25:10That's me.
25:11Oh, yeah.
25:12Look.
25:13There's Ewan.
25:15Here you go.
25:16Ready?
25:20Oh, you've got to have a go in it, Ewan.
25:24You're immortalized, Ewan, in a pinball game.
25:28God, does it feel weird?
25:29It just brings back my...
25:30It's funny, because it brings back my...
25:32...love of stuff.
25:34Like, when I was a kid.
25:35Yeah.
25:36Then music and, you know, listening to R2-D2 and 3PO and whatever.
25:40I loved it.
25:41It was such an important part of my childhood.
25:43Okay.
25:44You have a go, Charlie.
25:45Oh.
25:46Do you remember when they re-released the movie?
25:48The original?
25:49Yeah.
25:50Oh, yeah.
25:51We went to see it.
25:52We went to see it together.
25:53And you already knew that you were going to be in it.
25:57But you couldn't tell anyone.
25:59Here we go.
26:00See that music?
26:01Yeah, that music.
26:02That makes me, like, feel like I'm seven again, you know?
26:06I could have stayed in there, I think, all day.
26:09It brought out the child in me, for sure.
26:11Now we're going to get on the road and head south.
26:17Well, I shall always remember Krakow for my little tattoo.
26:20Yeah, that's right.
26:22It's going to be a forever reminder.
26:25Yeah.
26:26Yeah.
26:39The mountains on the right are amazing.
26:43Rumbly clouds ahead of us.
26:46We're heading to Witów in southern Poland,
26:49known as the Polish Highlands,
26:51in the foothills of the Tatra Mountains.
26:53This is sheep country.
26:56Tonight we're being hosted by a family of musicians
26:58who are going to treat us to some local folk tunes.
27:04Well, this is the place.
27:08Hello.
27:09Hi.
27:10Wow.
27:11Wow, you look amazing.
27:12What is this national costume, or regional costume?
27:14Regional.
27:15Regional.
27:16Well, it's so beautiful, kind of, isn't it?
27:18Yeah.
27:19Is it made of felt?
27:20Can I touch your leg?
27:21Yeah, yeah.
27:22Oh, wow, it's really warm.
27:23It's warm.
27:24It's warm.
27:25Because we're up high now.
27:26Okay, so would you like to come inside?
27:27Sure.
27:28Yes.
27:29It's a beautiful house, my gosh.
27:33Wow.
27:34Wow, what a place.
27:38I'm in, like, panic mode.
27:40One of the things that makes me panic is when people dress up.
27:44I'm feeling it.
27:45I'm feeling it.
27:46You haven't done that.
27:47You used to always do that.
27:48I haven't done that, yeah.
27:49Charlie used to always, when he was talking, he would always touch his own breasts.
27:53But he doesn't do it anymore.
27:55Did you do a good course?
27:56I did a course, yeah.
27:57I did a course.
27:58To stop it.
27:59To stop.
28:00Yeah, to stop breasting.
28:01OK, it's going to be OK.
28:02Don't panic.
28:03We are here with you.
28:04Don't have to panic.
28:05Do we keep going down, down?
28:06I can't remember.
28:07Um...
28:08Woo-hoo!
28:09Oh, sorry.
28:10Shepherds try to, like, communicate, like, throughout the...
28:11Oh, through the mountains.
28:12The mountains, yes.
28:13Can I have a go?
28:14Can I try?
28:15Yeah.
28:16OK, OK.
28:17OK.
28:18OK.
28:19.
28:20.
28:21Oh, sorry.
28:22Shepherds try to, like, communicate, like, throughout the mountains.
28:25Right.
28:26Can I have a go?
28:27Can I try?
28:28Yeah?
28:30OK.
28:31OK.
28:32.
28:36ORCHESTRAL MUSIC PLAYS
29:06That's amazing. That's great. That is funny. Wow.
29:10OK, there is a bagpipe. Is it a goat or a sheep?
29:15Goat. Goat. Goat. It was a goat.
29:18It was a goat. Yeah.
29:19It still is. It's a fact.
29:21Like, you know, the goat's soul is stirring here.
29:24OK. Oh.
29:25It's family tradition that we all play together.
29:27Is that how you met? Did you meet through playing music?
29:30Yes. Did you? Yeah.
29:31Through, like, a full group.
29:33That's romantic. Yeah.
29:34I'd love to hear them.
29:36The harmonies are, like, really unique.
30:06Yeah.
30:08They're very animal-shaped still.
30:11Aren't they?
30:12I did the leg.
30:13Oh!
30:13Wow. Wow.
30:15Wow. That's amazing.
30:17That is incredible. I've never heard anything like that.
30:19Oh, I didn't expect that at all. That's lovely.
30:21My last cup of Polish coffee in Poland.
30:35I'm going to head to Slovakia today and rediscover a place that we were 20 years ago on Long Way Round.
30:45We crossed into Slovakia from the Czech Republic, and we crossed into Slovakia from the Czech Republic, and we went from west to east.
30:52That's what was our want to do on that trip.
30:54Oh, yeah. We're going to go back to this castle that we visited, then.
31:03Okay, here we go. Okay?
31:05Let's wake everybody up on a Monday morning.
31:11I am just now enjoying this beautiful sunny morning.
31:21So, Slovakia border in, like, 15 kilometres.
31:35Last time we were here on our first Long Way adventure two decades ago, we rode into Slovakia heading east from Czechia, but today we're riding south from Poland, and we'll intercept our old route at Bonica Castle.
31:49I'm sure it's going to be an emotional moment.
31:54A day of memories today, really.
31:57Really excited to meet Russ and David.
32:03We're trying to catch the boys up because we're trying to recreate this moment.
32:08Over Long Way Round in 2004, the 20-year younger selves of ours hammered along that road, full of vim and vigour.
32:19This is a crazy, crazy memory for me.
32:22We've all stayed close friends, so we've baked something.
32:26So it's going to be a fun little moment.
32:29Oh, look, there's Dave and Russ.
32:30Oh, yeah.
32:31There it is.
32:32Wow.
32:33Can you believe we're back here together after all these years?
32:43It's an incredibly important part of my life.
32:47I wouldn't have known when we did Long Way Round how much of a part of my life it would be.
32:54I mean, it completely changed my life, so I have a lot to thank Ewan for a lot.
32:59Do you remember that?
33:00Yeah.
33:01Yeah.
33:02Our friendships are unique because of what we've been through.
33:05I don't know that anyone knows me as well as these guys do.
33:1120 years.
33:16Do you remember which way you went in?
33:17We must have walked up here.
33:18Yeah, we walked up here.
33:19Okay, Charlie, come on, let's see if we can remember this place.
33:22I don't think any of this...
33:23Oh, oh, oh, oh.
33:25Okay, the well's in here.
33:28Where were the little stairs?
33:30Yeah.
33:31Here they are.
33:32Yes.
33:33I remember we walked up here.
33:34And they were sort of like frustratingly...
33:35Small.
33:37Yes, look.
33:38Must have been quite lazy to say he'd had these small steps made.
33:41He's very tired of that.
33:42So he didn't spill his wine.
33:49He must have come up here.
33:50Go down.
33:51There it is.
33:53Okay.
33:54Let's do it again.
33:55Yeah.
33:56Let's do it again.
33:57Oh, my God.
33:5920 years ago, we looked down this hole, Charlie, and here we are again.
34:04None the wiser.
34:05Was this the one?
34:07Oh, my God.
34:09This is going to be the cruel cut back and forth between us 20 years ago and now.
34:15Oh, I dropped it.
34:16It's very good luck there.
34:17Suck in a bit.
34:18Hardly changed at all.
34:19Well, well, well.
34:20Three holes in the ground.
34:21I'm still glad.
34:2220 years.
34:23Oh, well done.
34:24Knocking around to the world on bikes.
34:26See you in another 20 years.
34:27Hopefully.
34:28What would I be?
34:2977.
34:30I'll be.
34:31Yeah.
34:32You'll be 73.
34:33That's all right.
34:34That's all right.
34:35We could do it.
34:36Yeah.
34:37Lovely.
34:38I really are on the last leg now.
34:39It is such a beautiful part of the world.
34:40Oh.
34:41Those are testicles.
34:42Woo, Charlie.
34:43I thought I'd just drop in.
34:44This is it.
34:45This is the last day.
34:46You've done a huge amount.
34:47And I've loved every minute of it.
34:48Well, that was a hell of a long way around to get to your house, Charlie.
34:49That's for sure.
34:50Ha, ha, ha, ha.
34:51Ha, ha.
34:52Ha, ha, ha.
34:53Yeah.
34:54That's all right.
34:55That's all right.
34:56We could do it.
34:57Yeah.
34:58Lovely.
34:59I really are on the last leg now.
35:00It is such a beautiful part of the world.
35:01Oh.
35:02Those are testicles.
35:03Woo, Charlie!
35:04I thought I'd just drop in.
35:05This is it.
35:06This is the last day.
35:07You've done a huge amount.
35:08And I've loved every minute of it.
35:11Well, that was a hell of a long way around to get to your house Charlie, that's for sure.
35:15Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
