Transcript
00:00Oh, as a mum, why didn't I? I know he needed me.
00:07And I know that he would have needed me.
00:12And I've got so much guilt.
00:17One year on, since 19-year-old Ellis Cox was killed,
00:20his grieving family are renewing their call for justice.
00:24The teenager was fatally shot on Sunday 23rd June last year
00:28at Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree.
00:31In an emotional interview,
00:33Ellis' mum has been speaking of her grief.
00:37He told me, I'm five minutes away, Mum.
00:41I said, come on, you have to be up for work.
00:43And he said, I'm five minutes away, Mum.
00:47You can start warming me tea up.
00:49And then I think, why didn't he just go the other way?
00:53Why wasn't I there?
00:57What if I heard it?
00:58And I could have held him.
01:03He was on his own.
01:06I can't think that my baby needed me.
01:13And I wasn't there to hold him.
01:16Despite a number of arrests,
01:19no-one has yet been charged with his murder.
01:22Ellis' family say they are still living with unbearable pain
01:26and they're appealing directly to the people of Liverpool
01:29to help bring those responsible to justice.
01:32We will not stop.
01:34This is what I will get out of bed for.
01:38All of the appeals we do
01:41because I haven't got Ellis to get up for.
01:44So the only thing that will drive me is doing this
01:48and we will not stop
01:49because I know somebody knows something
01:52and we will continue
01:54and we will not be going anywhere
01:55until we get justice for the people who took Ellis from us.
02:01Ellis' family described him as a gentle giant
02:05who was deeply loving and close to his family.
02:09He was so calm, Mr Soft
02:12and he was just so caring
02:17and he was, if he was around Ellis
02:21he would always feel at ease.
02:24His friends and his cousins always say
02:26if they always had worries
02:29or something they needed to talk about
02:31it would be Ellis.
02:32Detectives urge anyone with information
02:34no matter how small to come forward.
02:36Time is no barrier to justice, say police.
02:40We won't put this investigation down.
02:43We will keep on investigating it.
02:45We will react to every piece of intelligence
02:47and information that we get
02:48in order to get that successful prosecution.
02:51So this is a direct appeal to those individuals really
02:53to seek, have a look at the conscience really
02:56and try and help us to help the family of Ellis.
