00:00There's some positive news for Liverpool's NHS services, with urgent and emergency care of two of the city's major hospitals showing significant improvements following recent inspections by health watchdogs.
00:13I've just been in hospital and it was horrendous.
00:20Thankfully I'm fairly healthy, touch was, and I think our hospitals and the NHS, what an amazing service it is.
00:29And yeah, I'd feel safe and comfortable if I did have to go in.
00:33Based on what I know about the past, I wouldn't have been very happy with Aintree, but I do hear that it has improved, so if I had to go, obviously I would.
00:43The Care Quality Commission, or CQC, carried out unannounced visits to University Hospital Aintree and the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital in October and December last year.
00:54Their findings show a clear step forward.
00:56At Aintree, urgent and emergency care, previously rated inadequate, is now classed as good overall and well-led.
01:05Safe and effective practices have also been upgraded to good and caring remains strong.
01:09However, the hospital's overall rating remains that requires improvement, with some concerns still around how responsive the service is.
01:16Where I went after Aintree, this lady fell, hit my door, my door burst open, hit my knee, that was the first thing.
01:25Then I was moved eventually to another ward, which didn't, had a bed, but it was like a curtained off area next to a toilet that didn't flush.
01:37And I've had some dealings recently, and it's been exceptionally good, yeah.
01:43People complain about the waiting time, but my scare, it was like something that I needed to get checked.
01:49And I was in and attended to her in the week, you know, so it was great, you know, absolutely fantastic.
01:55And it gives you that peace of mind, you know, and they say, oh yeah, everything's fine, like, you know, so again, what a great service at NHS is, you know, and long may it survive.
02:05Over at the Royal, medical care, including services for older people, has seen its overall rating rise from requires improvement to good.
02:13The same goes for how responsive and well-led the hospital is, with effective and caring also marked as good.
02:19Safety does, however, remain an area for improvement.
02:24The CQC praised staff across both sites, saying patients reported compassionate care and clear communication from their doctors and nurses.
02:33But there are still some concerns, including long waits for beds and delays transferring patients from ambulances.
02:40You know, on the NHS, they still, even though there's so much pressure under them, the online staff offer you such care, such good treatment, you know.
02:48And I don't think it can be better anyway.
02:51There's a lot that can be improved, but then that's not down to the workers on the ground, the nurses and the cleaners.
02:57They're doing their best, you know.
