00:06The Ombudsman orders Vice President Saru Duterte to respond to complaints about her allegedly
00:17anomalous confidential fund spending. The Justice Department is set to verify claims the remains
00:23of missing sabongeros were dumped in Taal Lake. The Transportation Department increases the fair
00:29discount for students riding the LRT1, LRT2, and MRT3 to 50%. The U.S. FDA approves a twice-a-year
00:37injection for preventing HIV infection. And former NCT member Moon Taill admits to taking part in a
00:44gang rape that involved a female Chinese tourist. The Office of the Ombudsman orders Vice President
00:52Saru Duterte and others to respond to the complaints backed by the House of Representatives stemming
00:57from her allegedly anomalous confidential fund spending. Ombudsman Samuel Martírez confirms to
01:02Rappler the issuance of the order for the Vice President to file her counter-affidavits to the
01:07complaints. Apart from Duterte, nine other officials from the Office of the Vice President and Department
01:12of Education were also ordered to file their affidavits. Based on the Ombudsman document
01:18published by GMA News, Duterte and other officials are facing the following complaints.
01:22A House panel pushed to recommend filing of complaints against Duterte after it was able
01:28to establish that the confidential funds were misused based on questionable and fabricated
01:32acknowledgement receipts found in the OVP and DepEd documents. Meantime, House officials insist
01:38on Thursday, June 19, the lower chamber did not intentionally refuse to accept the entry of
01:43appearance filed by V.P. Saru Duterte's lawyers for her impeachment trial.
01:47Senate impeachment court spokesperson Reggie Tongol previously said the copy furnished to the House
01:53had a note and her copy refused to receive. House spokesperson Princess Abante clarifies the
01:59document sent to the House last June 16 was not accepted due to its vagueness and anonymity.
02:05She explains the House only wanted the letter to be properly identified and there wasn't any bad
02:09intention behind it. Justice Secretary Boing Yermulya says authorities will verify the information
02:17saying that the remains of missing sabongeros were allegedly, quote, buried in Taal Lake.
02:27GMA News reports that one of the accused in the case had come forward and said the victims were
02:32already dead and the remains dumped in Taal Lake. The accused claims the victims were strangled to death
02:38after being caught cheating. Remulya adds they will need tactical divers because it is not easy to go
02:52into a lake bed to look for human remains. Manila's Justice Department has been investigating the
02:57mysterious disappearance of the sabongeros for years now. As of December 2022, 34 sabongeros were
03:03reported missing while only a few cases have been filed. In January, the Court of Appeals invalidated
03:09the lower court's decision allowing the suspects to post bail. It also denied a new request for bail
03:14so the suspects were ordered rearrested. The Transportation Department announces an increased
03:21fair discount for students riding the LRT1, LRT2, and MRT3. Starting Friday, June 20, all students,
03:29including those studying at the postgraduate level, can enjoy a 50% discount on their train
03:34fairs even on weekends and holidays. The discount will only apply to single journey tickets for now.
03:40But Transport Secretary Vince Dizon says they are working to program the fair discount into beep
03:45cards and stored-valued tickets in the next few months. Students must present a valid school ID for
03:51the current school year or certificate of registration or enrollment to avail of the discount.

04:01In related news, Dizon ordered the relief of five airport police involved in an alleged extortion
04:07scheme with taxi drivers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, or NAIA. A taxi driver whose
04:13excessive charging went viral on social media told Transport Secretary Vince Dizon that airport police
04:19at the NAIA squeezed 40% of their earnings. The US Food and Drug Administration approves Wednesday,
04:27June 18, Gilead Sciences' lenacapavir, a twice-yearly injection, for preventing HIV infection. It will be
04:34sold under the brand name Yez2Go in the US at a list price of $28,218 a year. Lenacapavir, part of a
04:43class of drugs known as capsid inhibitors, proved nearly 100% effective at preventing HIV in large
04:49trials in 2024. Kevin Robert Frost, CEO of the Foundation for AIDS Research, says Yez2Go will
04:56quote, only be as effective as it is accessible and affordable. He calls on Gilead and the US
05:02government to make sure people who want lenacapavir can get it. Gilead says it is working to secure
05:08health insurer coverage and it will provide copay assistance for eligible insured people. It adds,
05:14the drug may be available free of charge for some under its program for the uninsured.
05:20Former NCT member Moon Taeil admits to rape charges in a quasi-rape case along with two others.
05:27Quasi-rape applies when two or more assailants are involved and the victim is in a state of
05:32unconsciousness or unable to resist. The Straits Times reports, Taeil helped escort a Chinese
05:37female tourist he and his friends met in a bar and helped her into a taxi with one of the co-defendants
05:42identified as Lee. Taeil and another friend, Hong, followed in a separate vehicle. The alleged assault
05:48occurred at Lee's residence. On June 19, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District
05:54Court held the first trial against the three for allegedly gang-raping an intoxicated Chinese
05:58female tourist on June 13, 2024. The male business newspaper reports, the prosecutor
06:05recommended a seven-year sentence each, disclose their personal information, enroll in a sexual
06:10violence treatment program, and a 10-year employment ban. This comes almost a year after Taeil was
06:15removed from NCT after his sexual misconduct charge became public. And that's today's wrap.
