Doncaster Free Press Daily Bulletin with Stephanie Bateman - Thursday June 19, 2025
Transcript
00:00Good morning, it's Steph at the Doncaster Free Press and it's Thursday, June the 19th.
00:04Just bringing you some of our top headlines today.
00:06First up, we have one that's been doing really well over, well, since yesterday morning actually.
00:12Food hygiene rating of previously condemned restaurants, which has received a three following an inspection,
00:18which means standards are generally satisfactory.
00:21It's a far cry from when the inspectors visited in 2023, late 2023.
00:27And it was infested with rats, so they had to close the premises down.
00:34But now it's open, it's running, and it's doing really, really well.
00:38So you can read all about that this morning.
00:41Then another one that's been doing really well for us, police officers from South Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire
00:49joined forces on two and four wheels to double their effort in spreading the message about road safety.
00:57There was a number of people involved in that operation.
01:03They were chasing somebody on a motorbike who reached speeds up to 100 miles an hour.
01:09They had to abandon that pursuit when the speeds got too fast.
01:15The person eventually crashed into a wall.
01:18There's a lot on there about the operation itself, so you can read all about that on the website today as well.
01:25And then finally, something we've asked South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue about,
01:31people reporting what they call a toxic smog and a burning smell across large parts of Doncaster overnight.
01:39You may well have smelt it and seen it yourself.
01:42A burning smell.
01:45They were woken in the early hours.
01:47Obviously, people have got the windows open with it being so warm.
01:49And they woke up this morning when it looked quite foggy and smoggy outside.
01:56We don't know what it is.
01:57Like I say, we've asked the question.
01:59Hopefully, we'll get some answers.
02:01The best thing we can say, really, is, even though it's unpleasant, is to close your windows if it affects you at all.
02:08But as soon as we find out, if we can, what it is, we'll let you know.
02:14So for those three stories and for anything else, just visit www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk
02:19And, of course, we'll keep you updated with everything on Facebook and X.
02:23And have a sunny Thursday.
02:25There.
