00:00Good morning, it's Steph at the Doncaster Free Press on a rather wet and miserable Tuesday, June the 3rd.
00:07Just bringing you some of our top headlines this morning.
00:11My colleague Darren put out a piece yesterday regarding a former police officer from Doncaster who has gone on trial accused of sexually assaulting a woman.
00:20Lee Meadows, who was a former firearms officer from Bessica, has denied a single charge of sexual assault and his trial began yesterday at Bradford Crown Court.
00:33We will try to keep you updated on that as the trial goes on, well at least bring you a verdict at some point.
00:42Then next up for you, some good news came out over the weekend from the government for Doncaster.
00:49The Doncaster Royal Infirmary is to receive over £3 million funding from the government for improvements there.
00:59This is alongside a couple of Doncaster schools which have been given also some cash to help with the improvements.
01:08The money has come from a fund for things like leaky pipes, fire prevention.
01:14So all the information is on the website today so you can have a read of that.
01:22And then finally an unpleasant one that I put out yesterday that's doing really well.
01:28A burglar who entered a property climbing through an en-suite bathroom entering a couple's bedroom as they were asleep in search for their car keys.
01:41They then stole their car.
01:42Thankfully the couple didn't wake up and they didn't come to any harm but obviously very, very shaken up by the fact that someone was in their property.
01:51The police went on to him straight away.
01:56He abandoned the car eventually but he is still wanted as far as I'm aware but I will check that today.
02:02There was a bike left at the scene.
02:06There was also a samurai sword found in the garden but the police have no indication that the man is responsible for owning that samurai sword.
02:15Or in fact if he had it in the house.
02:17Obviously investigations are ongoing and if we can give you an update we will do.
