Transcript
00:00Where you were at last year you know coming in last year you know I switched
00:03positions from high school so I think last year was really good learning
00:07experience for me you know really learn how to play tight end and you know I
00:11think from last year this year it's been you know last year really helped me out
00:15a lot to come and work this year. How much of an impact has Chad Savage had on you in the short period of time?
00:22Yeah it's been great you know it's always hard to lose a coach especially one that
00:25recruited you but Savage has stepped in he's done a great job with blocking
00:29and receiving you know he's really helped me out a lot in all those aspects and
00:33you know I'm ready to learn learn more from him. What have you seen so far from this group as a whole
00:38kind of what each one of you kind of brings that's unique to the table and how
00:41you're all a little bit different? From the tight end room? Yeah I think it's you know it's great I've
00:47learned a lot from you know Tablin Lake being the veteran guys and they've
00:50really helped me out but you know it's good to have different different bodies
00:53different skill sets and you know I think that's really beneficial for the room in
00:57general. How hard was that process coming from high school where you started to college and you've got to learn the ropes and how to sit?
01:06Yeah I mean you know it's obviously it's obviously going to be tough but you know
01:08I really needed that last year you know just you know being kind of like in the
01:13background really working on scout team you know just learning the ropes learning
01:15how to do things the right way and that's where kind of Lake and Tabo showed me
01:19really how to do things the right way and how to be a professional and go about my day.
01:22I think you know playbook for sure you know learning just
01:30just the ropes of it you know the speed of the game the physicality you know
01:34coming from high school to college it's a really big difference so you know just
01:38learning learning the speed and how all that you know translates from high
01:41school to college it was really helpful there for sure.
01:43You know it was pretty surreal I I didn't really you know get a chance to
01:51process it coach just told me to go out there and kind of ran out you know it was
01:54it was cool to you know be out there but didn't really have any time to process.
01:58I mean everybody in the room is really great you know everybody brings a different
02:07skill set you know Lake's the real veteran of the room so I just really take a
02:13a lot of the stuff he does and learn from him and just how to be a
02:16professional how he runs routes how he blocks his physicality so I've just
02:19taken a lot from him and you know each of these guys push me every day to you
02:23know we all push each other to be better players.
02:25How are you trying to separate yourself you know just just do an extra work you
02:31know watch an extra film you know anything I can do outside of practice or
02:35you know scheduled time to you know make myself a better player.
02:38What do you enjoy more blocking or getting out a little bit?
02:41You know I love I love both but you know I'm a receiver at heart so I do love I do
02:46love to catch the ball but you know I'm I love I love doing both as long as I'm out
02:49on the field you know it's great.
02:51What have you seen from Jaden Maiava since the end of last season?
02:54You know it's been great you know I love Maiava he's a great dude great quarterback you
02:58know he's really he's really taking a leadership role quarterback and I think
03:03everybody looks to him and you know he's been doing really well in spring ball.
03:07Not as many receivers right now do you feel like the tight ends are getting a
03:11little bit more action with basketball?
03:13Yeah I'd say I'd say a little bit but I think we're just doing a lot a lot more
03:16overall right now with a few guys down but once we get those guys back you know
03:20we'll keep we'll keep it rolling.
03:22What's the overall vibe been at spring practice not not just the tight end room but
03:25as a whole as a team what's the vibe been like?
03:26I think it's I think it's been really good energy's been really high vibes been
03:30really high you know it's very competitive you know everybody everybody
03:35pushes each other each day and I think it's you know it's been really good
03:39honestly.
03:40Are you still happy that Hanson is still here though?
03:44Yeah you know it's great he's a great guy I love Miss Annie you know their
03:48little one rock right over there you know they're family they're family to me so
03:52yeah I'm happy he's still here it's good to just see him every once in a while and
03:56work with him on block and stuff for sure.
