00:00This was a piece to rip Breslow and the Red Sox dysfunction.
00:05It's just one sentence. I wish June Lee elaborated more on it, but it got tucked into the story.
00:11According to multiple sources, Devers was upset when rookie Christian Campbell volunteered to play first base this season.
00:18Devers interpreted it a slight at his own stature.
00:21This is wild. Devers is such a bad teammate that he's annoyed by other guys being good teammates.
00:28A guy that is willing to change positions, which he already did. He already proved he was literally playing games at second base and the outfield this season.
00:35Tristan Costas goes down. They're rotating guys over there. And Christian Campbell volunteers.
00:40He's like, hey, I could try to play first if need be. And Devers is like, how dare you?
00:46How dare he? He's trying to do something. He's trying to free up a spot.
00:49Maybe at that point, that was when Bregman was still healthy and he's thinking maybe this is the way to get Meyer up here or who knows?
00:54Exactly. So that's an example of how Devers hurt the team.
00:57Yeah. Campbell is willing to go to first to make room for one of these prospects and make the team.
01:01And I was giving him crap for it.
01:02To line up more functional and fit together better, which is one of my chief complaints about this the whole time.
01:06Not just that he's a bad teammate, but he's getting in the way of an optimal lineup because he won't move.
01:11That's the next level. Because it's one thing for him, whatever, in his head to be like, I'm not playing first and stamp his feet.
01:16And you're like, all right, that's very individual, very selfish.
01:18But then to also take it out on somebody that is willing to change positions, that's like diabolical.
01:24Okay. And not just anybody. One of the kids who just got here.
01:27Yeah.
01:27So this does go back to what they were saying over and over again about the development climate for these young kids.
01:32They thought Devers was going to destroy these guys.
01:34A 22-year-old kid, and this is the best example of it, as far as we know.
01:37Maybe there's more to the story.
01:38Yeah.
01:39But as far as we know, a 22-year-old kid comes up and he's willing to move around.
01:43And he has his contract too.
01:44Yeah.
01:45He has his contract, $80 million to play second base.
01:47That's what you gave me. I don't have to move.
01:48That's what I heard about Devers.
01:50And he gets mad at the kid for not moving.
01:53That's how he's actively hurting the team.
01:55It hurt the lineup.
01:56Yeah.
01:56It hurt the overall roster.
01:59And specifically, it made Campbell uncomfortable, I'd imagine.
02:02I'm sure Devers loved hearing all the praise for Marcelo Myers' play at third base too.
02:07Myers was making great plays over there.
02:09Yeah. Devers moved.
02:09They automatically have two better third basemen than him.
02:12Maybe more.
02:12Toro might be better over there.
02:13They have at least two better third basemen.
02:14And the guy wouldn't move. He was wrong.
02:16He was wrong to not want to move about third.
02:18He was wrong about this as well.
02:19Right.
02:19Here we go.
