01:29All right, before we get to this next point, I want to say that Brazil and Martini Grail were fantastic, so gracious in victory and defeat, and she was so quick, Martini Grail was to give credit to the rest of the team and not play too big. It's just another race. We're moving on to the next race. So I think that just showed her poise.
01:45Now, the reason why they didn't make the final was the Spanish, and Stevie, they had a shocker in an earlier race where they finished 11th. It looks like they'd done themselves in, and here they come in that last race at a way to get them the points they needed to get in the top three.
01:56Yeah, and I don't want to say luck, because you don't know what it was looking like out on the water. Ultimately, Brazil turned left, which had been good most of the day. Spain turned right, and it was a 250-metre swing in the leaderboard, a wind shift.
02:11I mean, that's the game we play. That's what's so great about sailing, but so hard about sailing. It's very, very hard to control the people around you. You've got to sail the wind and sail what you're in.
02:21But one thing I saw, the decision I was most impressed with with the Spanish was in the final. They had New Zealand right behind them. They had a tough call to make.
02:30Now, the easy call, if you're not at all decisive, is to just save a manoeuvre, because you know you're not going to lose a set amount of distance.
02:36But Diego was punchy. He said, there's more breeze right. Him and Nicole had clearly made that decision early. We're going to do the extra manoeuvre. We're going to put ourselves in more breeze.
02:44And that was a big, big call. So, you know, that's why I'm loathe to say it was luck. They turned right at the bottom when Brazil turned left, made a massive difference.
02:52But they're too consistent in making good, big decisions for it to be luck. They're just really in a good place with their sailing right now.
03:00Hannah, do you agree with Esteban?
03:02I do. I mean, I think we look at a lot of the other teams when they come under pressure, when they're in the pack, you can hear the tempo of the communication rises on board.
03:11The manoeuvres start to drop in consistency. We don't see that with the Spanish. They are at the same level all the time.
03:17So it doesn't matter if they're leading. It doesn't matter if they're last. They are still executing to the same level.
03:22And I think that makes a huge difference. And it gives them so much confidence when they go into the final, especially now winning two finals back to back.
03:28They now can stand with their shoulders really, really proud and take that forwards. And that's a really powerful thing.
03:34I think it's interesting. We talk about Tom Slingsby, obviously one of the champions of the league. He's won it three times over.
03:40But he made a comment in a press conference a while ago, Steve. It may have been in New York last year where he said someone needs to start stepping up.
03:45These young guys need to step up. I think Diego Boutin has certainly done that.
03:48As you look at the final, Hannah, now, what stood out to you? Because as we talk about momentum as a sailing team,
03:54I don't think Spain came into this final with a lot of momentum. They scratched their way into it.
03:58I would say France had the momentum. They were smiling and feeling pretty good about it.
04:01How did they pull this off? How did Diego Boutin find it just off the line?
04:05Yeah, and it's interesting because, you know, quite often, actually, we see the boat that just scrapes into the final end up winning it.
04:12And I think when you've been on the back foot earlier in the day, you've really had to analyze what's put you in the final.
04:17What are the decisions that you've made around the course strategically and how you've been sailing the boat that have made the difference,
04:22that have just got you into that third spot and knocked someone else out of the final?
04:25And I do think that that's quite a powerful feeling within the team going into the final.
04:30But the way they executed that start, it looked like there was no stress on board.
04:34They just owned it from the first moment.
04:36All right. So, Stevie, we take a look at the leaderboard now after six events.
04:39Spain now on top with 46 points.
04:41The Australians, also known as the Bonds Flying Roos, now are in second with 45.
04:45The Kiwis in 44.
04:47GBR, Emirates GBR, 41 in fourth place.
04:49Canada, 38 in fifth.
04:50And France in 36.
04:51That is six boats that any day can beat one another.
04:55Yeah, I mean, it's so tight.
04:56And I think that's where we're at now.
04:57It's about that delivering.
04:59It's a bit like Hannah said.
04:59How can you execute?
05:00How can you execute?
05:01How can you execute at that consistent level?
05:03I think, you know, GBR strikes me as an interesting one there.
05:07Hannah talks about momentum and they're way down on momentum.
05:10They looked untouchable early season.
05:12Sam Fran and here have not been up to their standards.
05:16You know, they set very high standards.
05:17And so I think I can then criticise or comment on the fact that they're not up to those standards.
05:23But they're coming to a home event.
05:26We go to Portsmouth next.
05:28They've got a little bit of time to reset.
05:30You know, it's six weeks.
05:31Unfortunately, we've got to get the boats the whole way to Portsmouth.
05:33So we can't do it, you know, instantly.
05:34It takes a minute.
05:35But we're going to get over there.
05:36And then they're going to get that one chance to reset.
05:39We're only halfway through the season, but we're also halfway through the season.
05:42So it starts to matter.
05:43They're going to get a chance to reset on home turf.
05:45So I think Portsmouth becomes an even bigger event for Dylan Fletcher and for Hannah Mills and that whole crew.
05:52And they've got to take that whole, what's going to be a massive support for them.
05:55There's going to be a lot of people they know.
05:56It's a support.
05:57It's a pressure.
05:58You've got to turn that pressure positivity.
06:00All right, Hannah, you have sailed in Portsmouth before.
06:02That's where we're heading next.
06:04What can we anticipate?
06:05I know Stevie wants to know the best place to get some fish and chips.
06:07But what can you anticipate?
06:08What should we expect when we go there?
06:10Well, I mean, firstly, the UK crowds, the fans are going to be so excited.
06:14Especially after not having a UK event in the last season.
06:18So really looking forward to seeing people come out and supporting the event as well as the British team.
06:23But another tidal venue, as we've seen from the weather in New York, you know, we can't guarantee sunshine.
06:31But I think it's also one of those venues, you know, you get some typical sort of sea breeze venues where you know what to expect.
06:36Portsmouth is not necessarily going to be like that.
06:38You're going to have to be watching the forecast just in the days running up to the event because it could really be anything.
06:44We might get a lovely sea breeze, warm temperatures.
06:47The tides definitely are given.
06:48But we could also see conditions like this weekend, really puffy, cloud-driven conditions, which can be really hard to read on the water.
06:54So the teams are going to have to be really on their toes, doing their research, but ultimately waiting to see what happens on the day.
07:01Todd, you don't need to worry about me.
07:02I know where all the fish and chip shops are.
07:03As I say, I don't know exactly what the weather's like out there.
07:06But what I do know, it's going to be right off the shore.
07:09It's going to be pretty spectacular for all the fans.
07:11They're really close into the beach.
07:12And the Solent has always been one of the hardest, most exciting places to race.
07:17It's going to be that.
07:18But now we've got these 12 boats we've seen that basically anyone can win a race now.
07:24I believe everyone can win a race if it comes to it.
07:27But the standard's only getting closer.
07:28Now suddenly Brazil are a team we're talking about getting to event finals.
07:32Well, that's another team in the list, you know.
07:33So it's just awesome.
07:35But the crew's got six weeks to go away and work how to get it done.
07:37All right, coming up, it's event number seven, the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix from Portsmouth.
07:43We will be there.
07:44We're so excited for it.
07:45Will it be the return of the T-foils?
07:47Do we stay with the L-foils?
07:48What wing comes out?
07:49All kinds of configurations that play into it.
07:51And so we hope to see you there.
07:52We will have full coverage for you, obviously, on day one and two leading up to Super Sunday and the event final.
07:57So on behalf of Stevie Morrison, Hannah Diamond, our entire crew, I'm Todd Harris.
