00:45New Zealand up and foiling with 25 seconds to go there at the back of the pack at the moment
00:49but that doesn't mean anything for now
00:51in the middle of the line Switzerland are well positioned
00:53Great Britain are well positioned
00:55and France needs to hold back on some timing here
00:58I like where the Kiwis are but is there going to be a gap?
01:00I don't see a gap for New Zealand
01:02here we go, timing crucial
01:03watch for the line to turn red
01:05it's going to be France at the top of the line
01:07United States at the bottom
01:08who's called it right?
01:12Great start by Rotterdam
01:14Can they get round Switzerland?
01:16They're going to have a fast angle in towards Mark 1
01:18and the Danes
01:19can they roll over Emirates Great Britain?
01:24So the race is on here at the first race of the Mubadla New York Sail Grand Prix
01:28it is Nikolaj Sejestad and Rockwell Denmark
01:31on their left hand side though you've got Giles Scott and Emirates GBR
01:34as they make the turn here at Mark 1
01:36and we are up and racing in New York
01:39Lady Liberty's got a look at the Brits on the inside there
01:42and Emirates Great Britain controlled the inside
01:44great boat speed from the British there
01:46they turn away at Mark 1 first
01:48they will control things
01:49I expect the wind to start getting light ahead of them
01:52early maneuver after Mark 1 should be a strong move
01:54here go the Australians
01:56So they'll get themselves into position
01:58and then the dance will begin
02:00remember they need to hit that line when it goes white
02:02at zero
02:03and there you see Manhattan in the distance
02:05beautiful day of racing here
02:06just off of Governor's Island
02:08Lady Liberty
02:09as they make their way now in
02:11less than a minute to go
02:12points at a premium here
02:14remember 10 points to the winner
02:15so Great Britain already has 10 points
02:18Denmark has 9
02:19Australia has 8
02:20and the Americans have 1
02:22only the top 3 teams will race in the event final
02:24that comes after 5 fleet races
02:26New Zealand have changed things up here Todd
02:28look they've turned back a bit early
02:29they've not put themselves out the back
02:31given a little bit more chance to find a way through here
02:33United States late in France
02:35they're the boat
02:36left hand side of screen
02:37they're going to try and wind it up from a long way out
02:39that didn't work too well last time
02:41but if they've got their timing right
02:43it could be a lot better
02:44New Zealand slow at the moment
02:45but well positioned
02:46United States turning late
02:48Australia up and foiling
02:4923 seconds to go
02:50Australia and Switzerland are well positioned at the moment
02:53but it's who's got the gap
02:54there you go
02:55that's our poll predicted gold star
02:57on Australia at the moment
02:58but can they execute from here
03:00New Zealand are foiling at the bottom of the line
03:02Australia at the top of the line
03:04and Switzerland hoping for a gap
03:05how's your timing in the middle of the line here
03:07Phil Robertson
03:08he turns the boat down on board Canada
03:10but it's a little too late
03:11and it's going to be Switzerland
03:12with the perfect start through the middle
03:14they should lead the fleet to Mark 1
03:16and the Roos are going to come flying in from the top
03:19but not too far past
03:21enough to clear the gas
03:22when we're here when we can come
03:23so it's Nathan Outeridge and Switzerland
03:25that has the lead
03:26will they get the whole shot
03:28France is off to their right
03:29pushing Canada also
03:30and here comes Australia and Germany
03:32those five boats way out in front
03:35let's really rip it
03:36big change here into Mark 1
03:37great news for the Swiss
03:38they should be well positioned
03:40gonna go straight
03:41but they need to maneuver quite soon after Mark 1
03:43as they've been talking about less wind
03:44New Zealand
03:45they're in the middle of the pack
03:46but it's not a great start for them again this time
03:49right
03:51and angle
03:54stay patient go straight
03:56so we are good to go here in New York City
03:59day number two of the Mubudla
04:01New York Sail Grand Prix
04:10with the Manhattan skyline in the distance
04:12the ten international teams are now in the start of the
04:14box as we are 45 seconds away from race number three
04:18remember it's ten points for the winner
04:20one point for last
04:21it's all about getting the maximum points
04:23and Stevie the dance begins
04:24where do you want to be?
04:25oh the positioning is going to be so hard on this start line
04:28it's a short leg to Mark 1
04:29so that inside position
04:31the end of the start line near the top of our screen
04:33where New Zealand are sitting now
04:34that's a pretty good place to be
04:36but United States they're up and foiling
04:38our pole predictor the yellow dot
04:40at the top of the Danish wing there
04:42they suggest they've got a great space
04:44but I don't see how they're going to thread the needle from there right now
04:46who's got their timing right?
04:48Australia are foiling in the middle of the line
04:50Switzerland towards the top of the line
04:52but it's all about hitting the line when it turns wide at speed
04:54France could have timed this perfect
04:56they're coming through on the slingshot
04:58the French look good
04:59oh what a blanket start
05:03this is the umpire's early start penalty
05:05USA and Australia
05:07oh they need to drop to the back of the fleet
05:09and with just a four race series
05:11to get to the final pressure on Australia
05:13but France, Delapierre needed a start
05:16and he slingshots out of the gun
05:18so chief umpire Craig Mitchell
05:20delivers the news to the Americans and the Australians
05:22they'll have to drop back as they approach mark number one
05:24this is race number three here in New York City
05:27and you gotta like the position of both the French and the British
05:30oh the French are going to be able to hold on the inside there
05:33and it's no distance to the first turn
05:35New Zealand are on the inside
05:37expect them to split first
05:38they'll be the first boat back out into clear wind
05:41and it's all about the execution of the manoeuvre
05:43brilliant foiling jibe by the French
05:45the first three teams have all managed to execute that foiling jibe
05:49which we know is critical at this first boundary
05:51where it is lighter under the shoreline
05:54hearing that the tech issues have been cleared up
05:56thankfully our tech team's a bit better than me
05:58I think I'd have just had control alt delete
06:00as my one option for the fix
06:02but it seems to have the boats going well
06:04and let's hope things work out
06:06so less than a minute to go
06:09Emily final thoughts
06:10where do you want to be on the start line
06:12I think as we saw with the French
06:14that top end of the line paid well
06:16but only if you hit the line with speed
06:19right now it's not looking prime for the US team
06:22still off the foils
06:24Here we go, 41 seconds to go
06:26and now we can see the fleet lining up out the back
06:28Rockwell, Denmark
06:30they're trying to find space
06:31they're nearly foiling
06:32New Zealand are controlling things
06:33they want that inside position
06:35the downwind end of the line
06:37to try and hope that they can be on the inside at Mark 1
06:39Switzerland
06:40here comes Nathan Alderidge
06:41he's winding it up from range
06:43tight battle with France
06:44he's clear ahead at the moment
06:45looks like he's going to have the proper positioning here
06:48it's all about timing though here
06:50who's got it right
06:51New Zealand still off the foils at the bottom
06:53Switzerland too early
06:54Nathan worried about being locked out
06:56it's going to be Australia in the middle of the line
06:58USA in the middle of the line
06:59pole predictor sits on Canada
07:01all about timing
07:02Delapierre with 4 seconds to go
07:04threads the needle one more time
07:06oh the French are fast at the gun as well
07:09I love the positioning
07:10Delapierre
07:11oh he's absolutely nailing it today
07:14finding a way to weave through the crowd
07:16and as they all race away from Lady Liberty
07:18it's going to be a sprint to Mark 1
07:20but France looked good
07:21great start for Taylor Canfield
07:23and the Americans
07:24Canada are getting high Todd
07:25little loose
07:28they've got to back it down
07:29oh just avoid being last
07:31that's what they said
07:32here we go
07:33Mark number 1
07:34the French controlling the whole shot
07:36they get in the circle first
07:37then it is
07:38Australia, New Zealand and the Danes
07:40oh it's almost a repeat of the first race
07:44New Zealand are going to be the first to manoeuvre away
07:46hoping to follow the French
07:47but Canada
07:48they put themselves in the pack at the back there
07:50they flew too high
07:51got too aggressive
07:52and Canada have got a lot of work to do here
07:57chop on the waters
07:58definitely making how high you fly the boat
08:00be hard to judge
08:01and as you change through the tide lines
08:03that will be having an effect
08:04we can see this tide line
08:05right down the middle of our course
08:06here
08:07slight difference in colour
08:08slight white line
08:09and either side of that
08:10there's advantage to be found
08:12Bill Robertson
08:13well he said he's behind enemy lines
08:14but he seems to know his way around
08:16Bill Robertson on his third team
08:17in his foray here
08:18in SailGP
08:19was with China
08:20was with Spain
08:21and here he is
08:22he's found a home in Canada
08:23Emily it's a pretty strong team
08:24he's got put together
08:25with Annie Hager and CJ
08:26yeah it's a really solid team
08:28and we have seen them
08:29make multiple finals this season
08:31but
08:32every single time
08:33they come third
08:35here we are
08:3640 seconds to go
08:37Todd until the final start
08:38the blue marks on the screen
08:39moving from top of our screen
08:40to the bottom
08:41that's the current on the water
08:42that's the treadmill
08:43that's lifting the boats
08:44all up this way
08:45Giles Scott on Great Britain
08:46he'll like the space
08:47he has right now
08:48but all the boats
08:49are well spread out
08:50I think I'd rather be starting
08:51at the top end of the line
08:53on our screen
08:54it's the more downwind end
08:55but it's near the top of our screen
08:56Canada and Great Britain
08:57they're in a fight
08:58it's all about winding it up now
09:00poll predictor has the Canadians
09:01in the optimum position
09:02at the minute
09:03but Giles Scott
09:04shuts the door
09:05here we go
09:0610 seconds to go
09:07New Zealand show us the favourites
09:08can they execute from here
09:09it's all about timing now
09:11line's going to turn white
09:12how's your timing Phil Robertson
09:14beautiful from the Canadians
09:17but they put the bow in
09:18how costly will that slow down be
09:20on the inside it's New Zealand
09:22tactically they have
09:23the right of way
09:24but Canada and Great Britain
09:26can they wind it up
09:27can they get enough speed
09:28to roll over
09:29I think New Zealand
09:30are going to lead at mark one
09:31as they approach
09:33mark number one
09:34they go three wide
09:35here in the event final
09:36at the Mubudlin New York
09:37Sail Grand Prix
09:38it's New Zealand
09:39it's Canada
09:40and it's Emirates GBR
09:41look at that
09:42New Zealand
09:43had the right of way
09:44and they forced the Canadians
09:45and the British
09:46high and wide here
09:47New Zealand
09:48are going to be
09:49comfortably in the lead
09:50first manoeuvre for Canada
09:51can New Zealand
09:52stick this manoeuvre
09:53pressure on
09:54great move by Canada
09:55New Zealand match
09:56perfectly executed
09:57and right now
09:58big advantage to New Zealand
10:00they hold the trump card
10:01and they hold the trump card
