00:00As we build a strong and secure and resilient economy working people must
00:06feel the benefits. That starts with the security of a proper home. Our planning
00:12reforms have opened up the opportunity to build. Now we must act to make the
00:18most of those opportunities and a plan to match the scale of the housing crisis
00:23must include social housing. Neglected for too many decades but not by this Labour
00:32Government. And so led by my right honourable friend the Deputy Prime
00:37Minister we are taking action. I am proud to announce the biggest cash
00:42injection into social and affordable housing in 50 years. A new affordable
00:51homes program in which I am investing £39 billion over the next decade. Direct
00:58government funding to support house building especially for social rent. And
01:04I am pleased to report that towns and cities including Blackpool, Preston,
01:10Sheffield and Swindon have already had plans to bring forward bids to build
01:14those homes in their communities.
