00:00Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Deputy Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post, and here's a look at what's coming up in the week ahead.
00:07Nine years ago this week, the former Batley and Spen MP, Jo Cox, was murdered as she made her way to a constituency surgery in Batley and Spen.
00:19The Jo Cox Foundation was set up in her memory and now works to build a kind of more compassionate society.
00:25This week it will host the Great Get-Together, an annual celebration of everything that unites communities, inspired by Jo's belief that we have more in common than that which divides us.
00:36Events will be taking place across the country from June 20th to 22nd, what would have been Jo's birthday weekend.
00:44This week marks the 10th anniversary year of Sheffield's Migration Matters Festival, which is taking place from June 20th.
00:51In 2007, Sheffield became the first UK City of Sanctuary, and since 2016 it's held the Migration Matters Festival.
01:02That shines a light on the many different international communities, which call the city home, and creates a platform to champion the voices of people who organisers say are often muted, pigeonholed into labels,
01:13and rarely genuinely offered a chance to shape the cultural and artistic landscape of the cities they live in.
01:19Meanwhile, Sheffield's Dockfest returns from June 18th to the 23rd, celebrating documentaries from film and television to immersive and art style.
01:30The world premiere of Kim Hopkins' Still Pushing Pineapples will open the festival, offering audiences a look into the story of Dean Michael, the former singer of Black Lace.
01:43The film follows his journey on the road with his aging mother and his partner as he aims for a comeback.
01:51And since 1995, the seven principles of public life have set out the ethical standards expected of public office holders,
01:59which includes everyone from the prime minister and MPs to civil servants, police officers, those working in local government, health service and education.
02:07And to mark the 30th anniversary of the principles, the Institute for Government is holding a conference event this week,
02:14bringing together a series of expert panels and keynote speakers, including the former prime minister, Sir John Major,
02:21the events looking at how ethical standards can be upheld in the future.
