Transcript
00:00Thousands turned out at Graves Park as Race for Life returned to the venue, raising money for Cancer Research UK.
00:10Some donned fancy dress for the occasion.
00:14What was it like running the Race for Life as a chicken and a banana?
00:18Very hot, very tiring.
00:20It was good fun, but my knees were chafing with the last we tried knees.
00:24I was scared to laugh at dogs around Park.
00:27Did you get a good reception?
00:28Oh yeah.
00:29We do every year.
00:33Look, that's so cute! Well done!
00:42Suitably embarrassing.
00:47Well done guys, thank you so much.
00:49Many had their own personal reasons for taking part, as these runners explain.
01:01Could you tell me a little bit about why you're running today?
01:05Yeah.
01:06We've done Team Mum with Ginda.
01:07So our mum sadly passed away one year ago.
01:11So all of us have come together as a family, family and friends, to all celebrate and do something positive.
01:17So we actually, our mum used to love doing things like this.
01:21We actually didn't even remember with her ten years ago.
01:23This is our other sister.
01:24So, three girls just letting them know about mum.
01:27She believed in giving back to those who needed it, especially in their times of need.
01:31And she was a big Abbot Vanessa.
01:33So everyone's showing their support today.
01:35Not just by donating, but also by turning up.
01:37So there's over 50 of us here who have come together to do a race for life and show our support for everyone still going through that journey.
01:43This is what she loved doing.
01:44This is what she loved doing.
01:45So this used to say embrace life.
01:46This is what it's about.
01:47And this is her husband.
01:50Hello, why did you and I run the race for life today?
01:56Well, we didn't run it.
01:57We called it.
01:58We called it.
01:59We called it.
02:00It's our tenth one.
02:02We started 20 years ago when Kathleen's sister was dying from cancer and we said we would
02:09do ten, but because we've had so many injuries and illnesses it took us nearly 20 years to do it.
02:18And each year we've done it dressed up as something else.
02:22Yeah, and we've been all sorts of things for a year.
02:24And we've raised thousands for cancer research over the years.
02:28And we know so many people that are fighting cancer.
02:31And recently, Robert's brother died of cancer, brain injury, brain injury, brain cancer site.
02:38So basically, that's a lot of Beyonce's brother.
02:42But yeah, we keep on going.
02:44We probably can't walk tomorrow, but you know, I'll be back on safety for three days.
