00:44Senate President Chief Escudero is not too keen on Senator Francis Tolentino's proposal to expedite Vice President Sada Duterte's impeachment trial
00:55Tolentino proposed to have the trial in 19 days, from June 11 to June 30, the last day of the 19th Congress
01:03Under his proposal, the prosecution and defense teams will only have one to two days each to present their evidence
01:10For this to be possible, Tolentino suggested that the House reduce the number of impeachment articles from seven to two
01:16I think it's very difficult to limit the presentation of evidence on both sides to one day each
01:25Simply because you want it done at the soonest possible time
01:30Hindi nakalagay na trial should be done at the soonest possible time
01:35Escudero says the trial length will ultimately be up to the impeachment court
01:40But assures the Senate will convene as one on Wednesday, June 11
01:43Asked if the impeachment articles can be carried over to the 20th Congress, Escudero says
02:01Meantime, Senator Coco Pimentel moves to commence the opening right of the trial
02:05With Senator Rizón Tivero seconding
02:08I most respectfully move
02:10Number one, that our legislative business be suspended
02:16Number two, that we already convene as the impeachment court at this very moment
02:23We had a choice every step of the way
02:27And our choice has been to delay, to drag our feet
02:32Tapos ngayon, if I might add, biglang bibilisan
02:37An impeachment trial of all of three days
02:41What insanity is this?
02:46Former Presidential Commission on Good Government Special Counsel Catalino Generilio
02:51Asked the Supreme Court to act on his petition compelling the Senate
02:54To begin Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial
02:58Generilio filed the mandamus petition on February 13, 2025
03:02Days after the Senate received the Articles of Impeachment on February 5
03:06The Senate was the respondent in the petition
03:09Senators failed to convene the impeachment court and set a timeline for the proceedings
03:14Raising questions on whether the impeachment trial would push through
03:18Generilio has asked the SC to issue a court order telling the Senate to proceed with the trial
03:23Saying, quote, the constitutional duty of the Senate to constitute itself into an impeachment court
03:29And proceed with the trial should comply therewith without further delay
03:33Senate President Chief Escudero postponed the first step of the proceedings
03:38The reading of the Articles of Impeachment from June 2 to June 11

04:00To help control a third day of protests against President Donald Trump's immigration policies
04:06Troops were placed near federal government buildings
04:09As police and protesters clashed in different demonstrations over immigration raids in the city
04:14Police declared some of their rallies to be unlawful assemblies
04:18Saying protesters threw concrete, bottles, and other objects at police
04:22Groups of protesters holding signs against U.S. immigration authorities
04:27Gathered in several areas across Los Angeles
04:29California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, said he asked the Trump administration to withdraw its order
04:36Sending 2,000 troops in Los Angeles County
04:39Newsom adds, quote, these are the acts of a dictator, not a president
04:44The White House disagrees with Newsom, saying that, quote, everyone saw the chaos, violence, and lawlessness

05:13It aims to deliver a small amount of aid to Gaza and draw global attention to the humanitarian crisis there

05:24Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz says it was a propaganda effort in support of Hamas
05:30The Israeli Foreign Ministry says, quote, the selfie yacht of the celebrities is safely making its way to the shores of Israel
05:38The passengers are expected to return to their home countries
