00:00Newcastle United have completed their first summer signing.
00:04It's not first team signing as such, but it is a notable one.
00:09Antonio Cordero has agreed to join Newcastle United on July 1st
00:13when his contract expires at Malaga.
00:17A big coup for Newcastle United this one,
00:20beating off competition from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid
00:24and Porto to sign Cordero.
00:26He visited Tyneside earlier this year and it was due in that visit
00:30where he was convinced to join Newcastle United.
00:33Paul Mitchell is due to leave the football club at the end of the month,
00:37but he played a big part in convincing Cordero to join the football club.
00:41In the press release released by the football club,
00:44Paul Mitchell was quoted saying that Cordero was an exciting talent,
00:49confirming he would go on loan this season rather than link up with Eddie Heller.
00:53That's why it's not an immediate first team signing,
00:55but hopefully it will be a first team signing further down the line.
00:59So yeah, expect to go out on loan this season.
01:03Suggestions in Holland that Ajax are leading the race.
01:06No confirmation of that yet, but Newcastle have agreed an exciting deal.
01:11They won't see Cordero straight away, as mentioned,
01:15but certainly one for the future.
01:16Although Paul Mitchell hasn't made any major first team signings
01:24during his 12 months at the football club,
01:26he has been busy in recruiting young players with high potential players
01:31that Newcastle can develop.
01:33Cordero was one.
01:35Baron Yildiz from Turkey was on in January.
01:39Kyle Fitzgerald from Republic of Ireland.
01:41There's a few others as well.
01:43So Newcastle are future-proofing themselves, if you like,
01:46by finding these high potential players,
01:50developing them,
01:50hopefully repping the rewards of that in a few years' time.
01:54And Cordero certainly fits into that bracket.
01:56Spain under-19 is international.
01:58So a good deal for Newcastle United.
