00:00Hello there from Hull City where Sunderland have just lost 2-1 in their latest pre-season friendly as ever with these games.
00:07A little bit hard to assess it because the game basically did in two batches.
00:10Regist and Breeze's stronger, more experienced side if you like, playing the first 70 minutes.
00:14And then a kind of changed team play in the last 20 minutes.
00:17I thought Hull were really good opponents to be honest. They built the ball up well.
00:20They had some threat in the wide areas. A really good physical test for Sunderland at this stage of pre-season.
00:25Definite improvement from the Hearts game, albeit still probably not their most fluid and their most convincing.
00:30Took the lead through. A really nice finish from Simon Odingre.
00:33Hull equalised a bit of a bizarre goal where Janssen Seale played the ball and Enzo Lefeuille under a bit of pressure.
00:39His sort of clearance was sort of deflected into the path of Nathan Thindale who took his volley really well for Hull.
00:45And I thought there were times where Sunderland really took control. The midfield looked good. They looked a real threat.
00:50Hull, to be fair, also had some chances. Casey Palmer had a big chance that he stuck wide the far post as well.
00:56So it was a game that felt like it kind of could go either way.
00:59The changes made a big difference. Sunderland brought a lot of energy and were very aggressive in their pressing with a much younger side.
01:04But it did leave their back line really exposed when Hull City counted.
01:07And ultimately they had a real sort of surge, if you like, for 10 minutes before they made their own changes.
01:12Where they scored a good goal on the break, just a really good strength from Cal Joseph to hold the young defence off and Tia Paget-Kamra who scored.
01:19And then Jolan Darla, who's just signed for Hull today I believe from Manchester City, was excellent really and caused a lot of threat on the break.
01:25So ultimately Hull were deserved winners but it's not too much to be concerned about from a Sunderland perspective.
01:31You can see them building certainly physically from where they were on Saturday against Hearts.
01:35And on another day I think they could have scored some more goals, albeit as I say I was impressed with Hull.
01:40Big positives for me were obviously Addingwood getting his first goal.
01:43But also a shout out to James Dean Talby, who took a big step forward from his recent performances here.
01:48He was a threat throughout, both in terms of his passing, his crossing and also his first touch was really good at times to open up the pitch.
01:53So I'm really excited by that. I think you can see the team slowly starting to come together, albeit there's an awful lot of work still to be done.
02:00So some positives, some negatives, but obviously not one when you worry about the result too much.
02:04So yeah, on to Real Betts at Stanley Blount on Saturday.
