00:07Canada's top stock index saw a modest gain on Thursday as U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum took effect,

00:13prompting Canada to consider retaliation if negotiations fail.

00:17Meanwhile, U.S. markets lost ground despite a strong tech performance in earnings

00:22as concerns remain over the impact of ongoing trade tensions.

00:27The TSX rose marginally higher by the end of the day while the venture lost some weight.

00:32On Wall Street, the Dow saw a drop as did the NASDAQ closing lower.

00:41The highest gain in TSX stocks of the day was Talon Metals up 39.5%,

00:48Silver Elephant Mining and St. Augustine Gold and Copper were both up 15%.

00:57The stocks seeing the steepest drop were Vertical Studios and Aberdeen International both losing

01:0325% while Flintcorp fell 16%.
