00:00I usually wing it, but I felt like this one I better not, so forgive me, I'm reading.
00:07If I go off, we'll be here all night.
00:10Ben Vaughn represented the best of Nashville in the music community.
00:15He loved songwriters, and we loved him.
00:18Ben and I began working together in 2013, shortly after he started at Warner Chapel,
00:25and I signed a worldwide deal with him.
00:27I loved Ben.
00:28We all loved Ben.
00:30I call him, he was my guy, and every songwriter I know says, but he was my guy.
00:38Ben wasn't interested in only my songs.
00:41He valued my desire to work with the next generation of songwriting talent
00:45and partnered with me on Liz Rose Music, and we've had some nice success.
00:53Little Big Town shares that same passion for songwriters with Ben.
00:57Over the last 20 years, they have worked with an amazing array of songwriters, lifting them
01:02up, recording their songs, and just pulling off the magic that only a little big town can do.
01:12Well, y'all, I've screwed it up.
01:17So, in doing that, they cut our beautiful song, Girl Crush, that I wrote with my love junkies,
01:26Hilary Lindsay and Lori McKenna.
01:28And one of my best memories is writing Three Whiskies and the Truth with Karen and Kimberly
01:33over chicken salad and wine.
01:36What a night.
01:38So, as writers themselves, they understand and respect the creative process,
01:43and as performers, they elevate any song they sing with their incredible four-part harmonies.
01:48It is my honor to present the Ben Vaughn Song Champion Award to my dear friends, Little Big Town.
02:04Oh, my God.
02:05I love you so much.
02:06You love me so much.
02:11Wow.
02:12I don't know.
02:18We've been here for a long dang time.
02:24We grew old in this town.
02:27That's right.
02:28We played this venue when it was the Wild Horse.
02:30Yeah.
02:31And I just, I don't know, through the years, it's just been incredible just to be in this room
02:37and to be in this community.
02:39And Ben, we met when probably 23 years ago, I think.
02:46Am I right, Ruby?
02:47Like, I'm not sure.
02:48You weren't born.
02:48But a long time ago, and Ben was a brand-new song plugger and just excited.
02:57And when you, anybody that knew Ben, all I can think about is joy and legacy.
03:06And when we think about all these awards tonight, power player, groundbreaker, champion, all those
03:18things are what I think about and friend for Ben.
03:23And I miss him.
03:26He fixed what we thought was the unfixable.
03:29Yes, he did.
03:30Um, because he loved songs and he loved us.
03:34And he, he said, let me, I'm going to be at Warner Chapel.
03:39Let me, let me fix, let me fix the situation.
03:42And, um, I don't know.
03:45I'm so grateful to him.
03:47It was life-changing.
03:48And he always believed, and, um, we always believed in him and his joy, his legacy, his
03:57love of songs, the songwriting community.
04:00I mean, just speak his name.
04:04He has left an indelible mark on our hearts.
04:07Um, Ruby and your family, I'm so glad you're here tonight.
04:13And I don't feel at all worthy to talk about your dad, um, other than to just say that
04:20we miss him.
04:21And I know you do.
04:22And we're here for you.
04:23You have a community of people here that will stand by you forever.
04:27All you do is just reach out and you tell us what you need, because that's what your
04:32dad always did for us.
04:34And, um, so we're here to honor him and celebrate his life and the life that he's given you and
04:42your family.
04:43And, um, so Ben, you're like our little song angel up in heaven.
04:47Just keep them coming, buddy.
04:49We love you so much.
