00:00We're brothers Osborne for those who do not know I'm reading from my iPhone and I have reached an age where I sadly
00:06I hate to admit it. I do need reading glasses, but I fucking refuse to wear them in front of my peers
00:12So here we go
00:14Kick it off John Osborne. Wait, you're brother A. Well, that was me. Hello, we're brothers. Oh, wait, that was you just riffed. Yeah, exactly. Okay. Hey, I'm John
00:23It's a privilege to be here tonight to help billboard bestow its inaugural impact award on a true Nashville superstar
00:34Someone we know well and adore someone who personifies the awards description of and this is true a leader in the music industry whose actions have lifted up the community
00:45supported artists and
00:47Affected positive change
00:49So yeah, we're gonna there's a couple things in here that I thought you know, it seems very
00:53Serious or whatever when we read these but I thought the facts were pretty good especially for people in the room that do not know Tatum
00:59But as a founder of the music health Alliance or MHA, which is a nonprofit organization that provides
01:07Advocacy and access to health care health insurance and mental health resources for the music industry and thanks to the MHA and
01:13Just 12 short years more than 32,000 members of the music community have gained access to everything from life-saving
01:20Transplants and medicine mental health resources emergency dental care that sounds like a bitch into life care and
01:28It's saving over a hundred and forty five million dollars in health care calls for our industry and that's awesome by the way
01:34Come on you didn't clap for that and I think as it goes to John
01:38You know, we're gonna just ship off script
01:40As if we wanted to be a part of this because early in our career we'd sign a record deal and as John jokingly said in the interview over there
01:46I don't think you're more broke in your life than when you get your first record
01:49You somehow will have less money
01:51I sign my name and I'm broker than I was the day before I know it's our our business managers told us to turn in our credit cards
01:58And I was like if I don't if I do that I got no money
02:00MHA's services are available free of charge to anyone who has made a living in the music industry for three or more years
02:08And these services are available to their spouses partners and children as well
02:13Most recently MHA once again partnered with our labels parent universal music group and launching the music industry's mental health fund
02:21The fund provides a wide range of mental health services including personalized recommendations for mental health counselors and psychiatrists
02:29Including grants to help offset the costs to anyone in the music industry that is huge by the way. We all could use that
02:37Yeah, we said yeah
02:38And you know, and so today
02:43We were probably not so we were making a ten thousand dollar contribution to the MHA for
02:48Because now we do have money
02:52And uh, and you know for for MHA mental health fund in honor of our very dear friend, uh, nashville's very own mother teresa
03:01Give it up. Tatum all step. Tatum all step y'all. Yeah
03:05Love you darling
03:08Y'all can do better than that. Come on
03:11I love y'all
03:15Well, uh, oh
03:17You get that
03:18That's yours
03:19This is so
03:21It's a blunt object
03:22You can kill someone
03:23You got health insurance
03:25So you're good
03:25Wow
03:27Um
03:28So y'all
03:31TJ and John
03:33Thank you
03:34I mean
03:35Oh yeah

03:38You're killing it
03:39Um
03:40Thank you for a commitment to the music mind
03:44But thanks for being my friend since day one
03:47Um

03:50To Hannah, Melinda, Christina
03:52To all the writers
03:54To freaking Jim Asker
03:55Yeah, I love that guy
03:57Um
03:58Music Health Alliance started in my bedroom in the middle of the night about 15 years ago
04:05When I woke up that guy my husband and said hey I got this idea and he's like oh god not again
04:11Um
04:12But
04:13The next morning he was like hey that was a good one
04:16Like we need to unpack that a little bit
04:19And we did and there were so many naysayers
04:22And um
04:25We didn't listen
04:26And Melinda Newman was one of the people who gave ten dollars when we were just getting started
04:32And that was like the affirmation I needed to keep going
04:36Um
04:37It is such an honor to stand here with the people who shaped the sound of our freaking culture
04:45And
04:46For the impact of this little engine that could Music Health Alliance to be recognized
04:52Is just so meaningful
04:54So thank you
04:54Um
04:55To all of you who have walked with us over the years
04:58So many of you are in this room
05:00Our board of directors
05:01Donors
05:02Partners
05:02My precious family
05:04One of my kiddos is here who's our summer intern
05:07If anybody needs anything
05:08Rex also has got your back
05:11Um
05:12You've kept this mission alive
05:15And enabled us to grow from one person on the coffee shop tour in Nashville
05:19To a team of 15
05:21Who've served 32,000 music people
05:24And saved 145 million dollars
05:27And that's not monopoly money y'all
05:29That's real dollars
05:30To the Music Health Alliance team
05:33Some of them are here
05:34And some of them aren't
05:35You put boxing gloves on every day
05:39And you get in that ring
05:41And you hear the impossible stories
05:43You fight the broken systems
05:45You wrestle and cut the red tape
05:48And still you approach every single music person
05:52Who calls so openly with open arms
05:56And the most powerful medicine that exists on this planet
06:01And that's hope
06:02And that is something we've got
06:04You are the reason that our mission has an impact
06:08And this award
06:09This blunt object
06:11That could take down anybody here for fanfare
06:14This 1,000% belongs to you too
06:18I want to thank UMG
06:21Susan Mazzo
06:22If y'all don't know her
06:24She's a fucking saint
06:25She called right after COVID
06:29And said
06:30We gotta do something
06:31We have unsupported mental health struggles
06:39So many of them
06:40And Susan said with her cohort Markey
06:43Uh-uh
06:44This didn't happen in our watch
06:45I mean
06:46That's not a usual thing for a label to say
06:50But they are my friends
06:53Together we built the Music Industry Mental Health Fund
06:56That's provided over 8,000 therapy sessions
07:00And now the Brothers Osborne
07:04Thank you
07:05You've come a long way since those early days

07:15The mental health struggles of our music minds too
07:18And this is how we shift the paradigm
07:21So I need everybody to listen
07:23This is so important
07:25If you hear one thing this next week
07:27Please hear this

07:34If you're in this room
07:36You know it
07:37You probably have it
07:39You've seen its brilliance
07:41And you know how much it needs to be nurtured
07:44The music mind is filled with so much uninvited noise
07:49Y'all
07:49We know this
07:50It's historical
07:52It's the noise of pressure
07:54Of income instability
07:56Of isolation
07:57It is costing our industry big time
08:01I mean look around
08:02Everybody knows somebody that this has affected
08:04It is costing us creatively
08:07Humanly
08:08Corporately
08:09In the last few months
08:12MHA has seen a 250% increase
08:16In requests for mental health support
08:17Y'all that's not a statistic
08:19That's a screaming flare
08:23It is a fucking SOS call
08:25And we have got to do better
08:28And I am so serious when I say
08:30That Music Health Alliance is equipped with the tools
08:34And the knowledge
08:34And the partners
08:35To help every artist
08:39Every songwriter
08:41Every crew member
08:42Everybody in our industry
08:44Have access to the mental health
08:46That they deserve
08:48But not just in a crisis
08:50Y'all
08:51We've got to have a plan
08:53For the long haul
08:54We know that music heals
08:57But even the healers need healing
09:00So here's the ask
09:02To every label
09:05To every publisher
09:07To every platform
09:08To every artist
09:09To everybody who makes a living
09:11In this industry
09:12Please
09:13Don't just admire the mission
09:15And the impact
09:16Feel it
09:17Fuel it
09:21Fund it
09:23We so desperately need you
09:26To stand with us
09:27To nurture the noise
09:29And then we can truly heal the music
