00:00Oli Salop have done a little bit of early business in the window after their relegation
00:06to League Two. Tom Anderson comes in from Doncaster Rovers after turning down a new
00:11contract at the club. And they've also made a move for Sam Klukas, former Stoke man, has
00:17come in to the squad. Michael Appleton looks to rebuild ahead of the League Two season.
00:23Are Salop fans maybe right to be buoyed by this little bit of early business? Is it a
00:30potentially things to come, Oli? I must admit, the Tom Anderson one is an experienced
00:35campaigner. It seems like Shrewsbury have really gone away. Had to think about potentially
00:40some of the things that went wrong last year in terms of not having enough leaders in their
00:45side and look to address it really early on in the summer window, getting a couple of
00:51experienced heads in. Obviously, Tom Anderson, very experienced campaigner. Obviously, being
00:58around a long time, was one of the EFL's longest serving players at a particular club, I think,
01:01how long he'd been at Doncaster. Obviously, he turned down a contract to stay there after
01:06they were promoted last year. I think he made, in mid-twenties, roughly starts, didn't play
01:12all season. Obviously, he was heavily involved in a promotion winning League Two side and has,
01:20of course, been there for quite a long time. So, he's a very experienced player. And at the
01:25age of 31, he's probably just the kind of calibre of dominating, domineering centre-half that they
01:31need, having, you know, perhaps lacked that bit of something over the last couple of years.
01:37You know, not a couple of years, probably not quite got a replacement for Shea Dunkley.
01:42So, interesting that he comes in early. I think you consider that one, you know, as a pretty good
01:47acquisition from Shrewsbury. And then Sam Glukas. I mean, I choked on my tea when somebody from the
01:53club told me that we were signing Sam Glukas. I was kind of surprised because, obviously,
01:59I've seen him play for Swansea and all in the Premier League. And then, obviously, he's a veteran
02:04of Stoke and Championship at that level. So, I was a bit kind of, you know, I was taken aback by
02:12he's a real name. Obviously, he's been sold for, you know, a deal up to 16.5 million in the past. So,
02:19clearly, a talented football. I didn't quite realise at the time that he was 34, soon to
02:25be 35 when the season starts. So, obviously, the sceptics, you know, will go to that. And
02:33I can see why. Because, obviously, they're giving him a two-year deal. I would imagine they have to
02:38give him a two-year deal to convince him to stay, to enable him to buy into the project. I suppose,
02:43if he's going to play a big part this season, then they'll have to build the team around him.
02:46And if they're going to play a more possession-based style of football, then you need players
02:50with that ability on the ball. I don't believe that the reason that he didn't play too much
02:55for Lincoln last year was injury-related at all, though, to be fair. I think it was,
02:59you know, based on the fact that they had a ton of midfielders. And, yeah, he didn't quite
03:06make the appearance that he wanted. But he will be another very experienced head. The idea
03:13and the ambition for Shrewsby is that he will help those young players, the likes of Isaac England,
03:18the likes of Jack Loughran, develop after they kind of came through at the back end of last season.
03:23And they need some kind of experienced players in there to lead the way for the others in the
03:27dressing room. You heard Gareth Ainsworth talk at times about not having the generals
03:32in the changing room. So hopefully that addresses that inadequacy from the last campaign.
