Shrewsbury deadline day update: Ollie Westbury on Oliver and other Salop targets

Ollie Westbury brings you the latest on transfer deadline day. Salop are working on a deal for Vadaine Oliver from Bradford City - as Gareth Ainsworth looks to bolster his front line. He also discusses possible other target areas and whether there will be any outgoings by the deadline.

00:14I'm here with Oli Westby for a quick update on the state of play at the Crowd Meadow.

00:19Oli, first bit of business, first item on the agenda. Verdane, Oliver, Bradford City

00:24striker undergoing a medical at Salop. Gareth Andrews said he wanted striking reinforcements

00:31and it looks like he's going to get one.

00:33Yeah, it does. We reported yesterday the interest from Shrewsbury in Verdane, Oliver. There

00:39have been some rumours circulating online and obviously we saw those yesterday and it

00:47was reported, I think first by the Sun, Nixon by the Sun. So yes, Shrewsbury interested

00:54in him. And then obviously the updated story this morning is that he's in Shropshire. He's

00:57at the Slumdawn Castle training ground and he's undergoing a medical ahead of securing

01:02a switch to Shrewsbury. Still a little bit of waiting for some clarity. I'm expecting

01:08it to be a loan, but I'm not 100% sure because I believe that he is out of contract at the

01:12end of the season at Bradford. So yeah, I want to keep an eye on as and when. My understanding

01:20now is it's just the formalities. Obviously, I'm sure that the media team are probably

01:24working on perhaps some form of unveiling. But yeah, as long as the medical goes through

01:29with no particular hiccups, then we'll understand that Verdane, Oliver will be a Shrewsbury

01:35Town player by the end of the day. Well, I would have thought that it would probably

01:38be at some point early afternoon, early evening. I would have thought at some stage we're going

01:43to get someone else on him.

01:46In terms of other moves, obviously Gareth Ainsworth in an ideal world will want to bring

01:50in a few sign-ins, but what's the realistic possibility today? He talked about attacking

01:54reinforcements. Is that another one on top of Oliver or is there other areas that he's

02:01targeting or do you expect Salah to strengthen before the 11 o'clock deadline tonight?

02:06I think he's... Yeah, it's an interesting one, isn't it? Obviously, you don't really

02:12need my input on it. You can read the story on the Shropshire Star website, his exact

02:16words of what kind of him detailing what it is that he wants on deadline day this time

02:23out. So yeah, he kind of explained it himself, didn't he? You know that forwards... So that

02:29suggests that Shrewsbury are going to be in the market for forwards this month. But it's

02:36also open to interpretation, isn't it? Because obviously, Town have not done a great deal

02:41of business so far this month and they are kind of relying on the end of the window and

02:46today to get their deal. So it could be done with a little bit of panic in mind as they

02:51try to kind of get the signatures and get the line at the end. So I would expect, and

02:58this is an opinion more than a fact, but they'll be working on a deal for another forward and

03:03I think we'll see two players come in for sure. The second one to be a forward and then

03:09we'll have to see if there's enough money left in the pot to make another addition.

03:13You know, there's been plenty going out the door already this window, you know, loans

03:18recalled. Is it any expectation on that? Could they lose anyone or, you know, they can't

03:23really afford to lose anyone at the moment is the cut and thrust of it. But is there

03:27going to be anything going that way or do you expect that to be quiet?

03:30Yeah, I would be amazed if there'd be any outgoings. That would be my take on outgoings.

03:39I don't see how Shrewsbury have been trying to actually bolster their squad for the last

03:42two weeks to no avail really. Almost borderline criminal to let people then go out on the

03:49final day of the window. There was a few fans tweeting me about some rumours regarding some

03:54players this morning, but ultimately Shrewsbury's players, you know, at the moment are under

03:57contract and if they're under contract, then the only way they go out is with the club's

04:00permission. So I would be very surprised to see anybody really notably going out the door

04:06before the window closes at 11pm tonight.
