00:00people don't become successful just by accident why do you want to work out what is your goal
00:15the most important thing is that you have a vision that you have a goal because without that vision
00:35and without that core again you're drifting around and you're never going to end up anywhere
00:45so you got to really have a specific order to me to have that vision that i want to be
00:58mr universe that i want to be the greatest bodybuilder of all time
01:15that was a great vision and that specifically to look like reg park and to be up there on that
01:23stage and to lift the trophy overhead and to win the championship over and over and over again
01:29so that was a great goal you have to have a goal now it doesn't have to be that specific goal but
01:43it has to have some goal this is why i always recommend to people sit down take your time
01:51instead thinking about why do you want to work out
01:54what is your goal and that can't be as crazy as it is
02:12it could be you know i want to impress girls if that's your goal so be it but it motivates you
02:19it could be that you're emulating a certain uh you know bodybuilder
02:22have those pictures put all over the wall like i did when i was a kid i put pictures of rich park and of sunny liston of boxers and of ali and of
02:37powerlifters and weightlifters and of powerlifters and weightlifters all over my bedroom uh you know wall

03:15so that every day when i go to sleep every day when i wake up and look at those pictures and
03:34they motivate you you need that motivation and then therefore you have this kind of
03:38imprint in front of you all the time and you know exactly what you're chasing

03:53people always come up to this is why are you smiling you're working at five hours a day
04:19you're doing the same as the other guys
04:21but the other guys have a sour face they're pissed off that they have to do another rep
04:24for another set or something i look forward to i look forward to another thousand reps

04:51i looked forward to another 500 pounds of of of a leg press or squat i looked forward to more and
05:15more curls until my arms fall off why because i knew that every rep that i did in every set that
05:21i did and more weights that i lifted i get one step closer to turning that vision into reality
05:27so i was turned on by that i was excited i couldn't wait to get to the gym
05:37i remember that when i weighed 245 pounds
05:49i'm bob rafelsten the director of stay hungry
05:53He said to me that I'm interested in having you come into a reading and work on your acting
06:22in orders because I'm interested in having you in a movie to star with the Jeff Bridges
06:26and with Sally Fields.
06:28I was delighted about it.
06:29I was excited and I started pumping up more and more.
06:31And then he said, but I don't want you to weigh more than 210 pounds.
06:52You want me to be in a movie, but I'm weighing 245 to 46.
07:18I just won the Olympia, which was 1974, and I was really at my biggest.
07:48And, but he demanded that.
07:55And he says, look, it's very simple.
07:57On the day we start shooting, he says, I'm going to put you on the scale.
08:03And if you don't make the 210, you're out because I have someone else in mind.
08:08And I've worked on it as a visualizing myself very clearly as a lean athlete.
08:38And there was no room for any kind of like, well, I can't get my act together or anything
08:54like this because there's only a certain amount of time.
08:56But the key thing again is have the clear vision.
