00:00Previously on Yes Chef, we've gathered 12 professional chefs with one thing standing
00:11in their way. Oh, dear. I'm going to punch the fryer in a second. Themselves. Oh, my God. If
00:18something goes wrong, it gives me this tunnel vision. I feel like a failure. They may call
00:23you control freak. Do what I'm trying to do here, right? But how is it a nacho? Oh, my God. This
00:27is why I work alone. Hotheads. Don't roll your eyes at me. I was rolling my eyes because
00:32this is the third time I'm cooking again. This is a cooking competition. The way to win this
00:37game is get rid of the best chef. Chef T. I want to see Zane out of here. These are evil.
00:42Shots fired. We're going to make some enemies. Two words. Un-believe-able. That's one word.
00:49You open the **** here. This is not something I was expecting from Chef Christopher. Thank
00:53you, Chris. Here. Thank you. Go. Serving that to a **** Michelin star chef.
00:57This. If I were to go home today, I would physically just never cook again. The chef
01:01going home is Chef Peter. That kid has such a long career in front of him. It's not the
01:09last of him. Welcome to Yes Chef. Oh, man. A 23-year-old competing with us. Yeah. I mean,
01:19it's crazy how far you've made it. It's just hard. Jose Andres, he's my biggest mentor in the
01:25world. Yeah. I'm like, I'm sorry. I just went all good.
01:30Good morning, Chef. Good morning, y'all. That was a quick turnaround. We're at six. That
01:45went fast. Final six. It's a big deal. I'm going to be focused on what needs to get done,
01:50and I'm going to get it done. I know we have beef. Nobody getting in my way today. If you
01:56want to try, try it. But also, we understand each other's capability, and if we have the
02:02choice, I'd like to join up. We could be a powerful. That's what I'm saying. Just make
02:08sure we're not in cook-offs. It did not feel good. Peter going home, it's at a point where
02:12we care, which is surprising for me because I don't really care about a lot of things.
02:16I'm the only child, and everything in my life has been on my shoulders. Three years ago,
02:21my roommate found me on the floor. There's not a medical explanation of what happened. I had
02:26extreme brain swelling. Doctors thought I was not going to make it. I fell into a coma for 14
02:32days. I couldn't walk. I got a second chance. I get to push on, keep going, keep going. This has
02:38changed me into the person I am right now, so I need to get this done because we cannot be here
02:43tomorrow. Nobody knows. Let's get it. Let's do it. Hello, hello, hello. The diminished group. Only six
02:58chefs left. This must feel very good to each of you to be just five chefs away from the $250,000
03:06price. Yeah. But the truth is that we have a very big kitchen, Martha. We used to be 12. Now
03:15there's only six left. I can fix that. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Look who's here.
03:36Welcome back, chefs. Chef Peter, I see your hand. I punch the floor, chef. You're left or right?
03:46My left hand. I'm a lefty. Good Lord.
03:50To look back at it and think about how angry I was just over a piece of food, it makes you look at
03:56yourself and be like, what can I do to get better? Breaking my hand wasn't on my schedule, but it's
04:02something I definitely learned from and I'll hold with me for the rest of my life. I think we've all
04:08been there. I've been in the walk-in when I lost control of a kitchen on a Friday night and I'm like
04:13screaming at the tomatoes.
04:18Jose and I believe that everyone deserves a second chance, so these chefs have another chance to get
04:24back into the game. Wow. I'm back. Chef Petrina, here you are again. Had a lot of time to think. You
04:33only had one wig in this kitchen. I left not having my opportunity to fight in the cook-off and having
04:39another shot feels great. The worst has already happened. Now that that's out of the way, I'm
04:44feeling pretty fearless. Chris, how do you feel about your former competitors coming back? Some I'm happy
04:50about. Some on the fence. You had a hiatus to think about your grilled cheese. The chefs that are
04:57fighting day in and day out are like, what the ? We're all going to have to bring the best that we
05:03can do. Chef T, she's a beast of a chef. A lot of people deep down inside are thankful she went home
05:08early. To get the opportunity to go through someone instead of cowardly going around them, I'm going to
05:13relish every single moment of it, chef. Man, it kind of reminds me of high school a little bit.
05:19It's done. Get over it. I'm not going down this time. So today will be an opportunity for the
05:26eliminated chefs to get sweet revenge. All of your chefs will make a dish that's sweet.
05:34Sweet revenge. It can be a dessert. Can be a savory dish like sweet and sour dishes. But it must
05:40be sweet. Your food will have to speak because we're going to be tasting blind. After Jose and I have
05:50tasted each of your dishes, we're going to be ranking the eliminated chefs separately from the chefs who
05:57are still in the competition. The top two eliminated chefs will choose which of the bottom current chefs
06:05they want to face in the cook-off. If the eliminated chef wins, they will take their opponent's place
06:11in the competition. This is a big opportunity for redemption, eliminated chefs. Jesus.
06:19Lee's looking a little bit more gray. Maybe it's time for him to go home. Emily has that mom thing,
06:24like she's been to three soccer games in 24 hours. She's ready for a nap.
06:28There are 90 minutes on the clock. You will cook in two groups. Eliminated chefs will start first.
06:3730 minutes later, the chef remaining in the competition will start. Please, go to your station.
06:43Chef Peter, meet me in the pantry.
06:45What's up, chef?
06:50Chef Peter, who's your hand? It's all right. Stupid mistake.
06:54You're not the only one that sometimes goes through these moments.
06:57The important part is how do we come out and power.
07:01Yeah.
07:01When I began as a chef, I was your age. You have so much more to learn and to give.
07:09Things are not going to go as you plan. Use that moment of frustration.
07:15Use it as fire.
07:17Control your fire, my friend. Don't let that fire burn you from within.
07:22I don't care anymore if you win or you lose. I only want to see what you do next.
07:26After that moment.
07:28I believe in myself.
07:30Thank you, chef.
07:31Go to the moon.
07:33Go.
07:33And compare the world.
07:37We're leaving the kitchen.
07:39Eliminated chefs.
07:41Your time starts now.
07:43Good luck, chefs.
07:45Good luck.
07:45Martha, it's exciting that the chefs have an opportunity to come back.
07:53Very exciting.
07:54Especially like Katrina.
07:56She has a chance to show more skills than what she was able to show us the first week.
08:01I'm anxious to see what she makes.
08:03We have one going for the plates.
08:04Chef Petrina, awfully calm.
08:05I overthink a lot.
08:07I'm constantly in my head.
08:09Enjoying this lobster.
08:10Oh my God.
08:11So right now, I'm just trying to own throughout the whole thing.
08:15Petrina, what you working on?
08:16Fruit tart.
08:17You're like a walking zen.
08:18It's nerve wracking.
08:19You're so calm.
08:20Psychological warfare.
08:24Tia, what are you making?
08:25It's a version of shaved ice in the form of a granita with my tart.
08:30What you over there making?
08:31Ricotta cheesecake with a berry compote.
08:33Don't let that crust crack.
08:34It's graham cracker, baby.
08:35Don't worry.
08:36Are you using this boat?
08:37Can I have this?
08:38No, those are mine.
08:39This competition is mentally tough.
08:41It also drives my anger.
08:43But if I allow Michelle to continue to take up more real estate in my mind, she's actually won.
08:50Let's go.
08:51Let's go.
08:52Let's go.
08:54Cut her ass still going to be fast, even with a broken arm.
08:56Tiki regrets that right now.
08:58Probably a pretty valuable lesson.
08:59Not a good place to learn it, though.
09:01There's only two spots to get to the next round.
09:03I'm going to do everything in my power, half power, to cook my ass off.
09:07Knife cuts aren't going to be the best today, I'll tell you that.
09:10I was fired on the first year of my restaurant twice.
09:13Alejo, my Spanish restaurant.
09:15So I came back.
09:17Hulk with three fingers.
09:18See?
09:18Look at that grip.
09:20An hour and 15 left.
09:22Careful if you go into the freezer.
09:23I've got my granita propped up.
09:26Julia, what you doing?
09:27I'm going to do a stuffed berry crepe with a ricotta cream.
09:30I was eliminated because I made the wrong decision for my team.
09:34It's like, thank God I got another chance.
09:36I know I can do better.
09:38You know, once you got out already, it doesn't feel as rushed.
09:40I feel chiller on this side now.
09:42Okay.
09:42Could we wrap the butter a little bit more?
09:44It's like a Barbie doll.
09:45Let's complaining.
09:46We're here.
09:47We got another change.
09:48Could you wrap the butter?
09:49We just hear Michelle yapping and complaining.
09:52The oven sucks.
09:53I hear what you're saying.
09:54The oven's not hot enough.
09:56The blast chiller's not cold enough.
09:58And this is why I don't like working with others.
10:02You good, Michelle?
10:03It's in God's hands.
10:04Technically in Martha and Jose's hands, but, you know.
10:07To go through more challenges to just be replaced sucks.
10:12Yeah.
10:13Nauseous.
10:13Like, everything about me is, like, anxious right now.
10:16Finding out that two of them can take two of our places.
10:18It's hunting me.
10:20They deserve a second chance.
10:22Good luck, chefs.
10:23You're coming.
10:24You're working.
10:24But I don't want to go home.
10:26I feel like I'm in panic mode.
10:28Crazy.
10:36Let's go.
10:38Go, go, go.
10:39Taking all the eggs.
10:41Oh, beep, beep, beep.
10:44I want to be next to you at the end of this.
10:47Oh, yeah.
10:48What are you doing?
10:48Fig balsamic gastrique.
10:50Some pork loin.
10:51Damn.
10:52You and I definitely have similar styles.
10:53I'm doing pork loin with a gastrique.
10:55I'm making chocolate pasta.
10:57See what I mean about savory meat sweet?
10:59Very Libra of you.
11:00I need to make sure if this reads Christopher Morales all over this dish.
11:04Ravioli's fresh in their head.
11:05From me, might as well go ravioli.
11:08All right, big dog, you got this.
11:09Work with me, baby.
11:10Martha, do you study medicine?
11:14I would have been a doctor if I weren't me.
11:16I see.
11:16You are ready to go in the operation room.
11:19I am my mise en place for tasting.
11:21My sister.
11:22I thought I was going to make a dessert with no chili.
11:25Come on, baby cakes.
11:26Come on.
11:27Chef T, be an interesting comeback.
11:30I'm worried about that one, too.
11:32I'm worried about all them bitches.
11:33Oh, my hands are shaky.
11:37Freeze, chef, breathe.
11:38What are you making?
11:39I'm making a fudgy chocolate cake with strawberries.
11:43I don't know what to do.
11:46My stomach's just anxious.
11:49Pastry is precise measurements, and recipes are not as forgiving.
11:53I've worked for three-star Michelins, but I can feel all those ugly insecurities coming out.
11:59Please, for the love of God, don't burn.
12:01Hashtag not a baker.
12:02I think that's for most of us other than Ronnie-esque.
12:04Ronnie seems very mellow.
12:06The professor, baby.
12:07Zen master right here.
12:09I love sweet desserts.
12:11I have succeeded with two desserts.
12:14I feel more confident now than I have during this entire competition.
12:18Ronnie making popcorn.
12:19I'm surprised that Ronnie's still here.
12:21Why would you do popcorn?
12:22I don't know.
12:24Nothing against those chefs, but we sweat it out.
12:27We battle week in, week out.
12:29I agree with Chris for once.
12:32The six chefs that have been here since day one, we bust our ass working on ourselves
12:37and working as a team.
12:39A hot.
12:40Well, I mean.
12:41But it's fire.
12:42I've shown growth by letting my ego down, tasting other chefs' dishes instead of sabotaging,
12:47and I'm proud of that.
12:48We never went home.
12:50We're not going to go home this week.
12:51He just mic dropped out of that.
12:53How much time we got, Blue?
12:55Nine minutes, guys.
12:56Coming out in two seconds.
12:59Easy, easy.
12:59My granita is in there.
13:02I've got to get this mixture cooled down to create that granita-like texture.
13:07Get out the freezer.
13:08I am guarding this freezer with my freaking life.
13:11I was given a raw deal by the way that I was eliminated, and I just had this burning desire.
13:17Someone's working on a crumble.
13:19Graham crackers.
13:20That was mine.
13:21That was you?
13:21Stop.
13:22That ain't working.
13:24Peter, how's your tart?
13:25Uh-uh.
13:27Guys, we have five minutes.
13:28Just have to go regular graham cracker.
13:30That was my graham crackers from before.
13:32You okay?
13:32Yeah.
13:32Okay.
13:33I don't need them.
13:33I would have been pissed off before, but everyone's not perfect.
13:37They've got to take a step back and just take a breath.
13:39I've been safe in time all day.
13:41I only got to watch one hand.
13:42Peter has a big smile on his face.
13:44I want to just kind of like rub his back.
13:47The mom in me is so proud.
13:48What?
13:49That's dope.
13:52Come on out.
13:52Come on out.
13:57Come on out.
13:58Come on.
14:00Okay.
14:00My pastry tart is very delicate, and they all start.
14:03Falling apart.
14:04It feels like day one all over again.
14:06How you doing, Petrina?
14:07I will not let this kitchen defeat me.
14:10All right, guys.
14:11We have two minutes.
14:12Two minutes.
14:13Down to the wire.
14:15I have to get more juice into this granita without it overflowing.
14:20Come on.
14:21I remember the syringes.
14:23I've never plated anything in a syringe before.
14:26You got it, Tawita.
14:27One minute.
14:30Nice.
14:31Fish.
14:32I can work with this.
14:34These twills, they're not perfect.
14:35They're falling apart.
14:36But I do find small pieces that I like, so I add those parts to my plate.
14:41I hope the judges don't notice that these are broken pieces.
14:45It's a whimsical fruit tart.
14:48Time's up.
14:49That's how we go in.
14:50My OCD is, like, off the chart right now.
14:53Chef Lee, cook your ass off.
14:55Thanks, bud.
14:56Oh, my God.
14:58Martha, take a look what we're getting here.
15:01We have to choose our two favorites, and we don't know who made what.
15:06I mean, take a look at the whimsical pastry tart.
15:08With creme anglaise, raspberries, gooseberries, and strawberries.
15:12The presentation is very beautiful.
15:14The pastry is not very tender.
15:17This, to me, is whimsy.
15:19This is a pastry tart that you are eating like a soup.
15:22Deconstructed.
15:24This is called lemon-strawberry-bourbon tart.
15:27There's no pastry.
15:29It's a nice tart.
15:30Lemon flavor.
15:31Lemon curd is usually smoother and much more pungent with lemon.
15:36Ricotta cheesecake with berry compote and graham cracker crust.
15:40It's a little large.
15:42Nobody's going to be hungry.
15:43The crust doesn't seem to be holding together.
15:46And to me, when a cheesecake becomes its own sauce, it's undercooked.
15:50Taste the crepe.
15:51A stuffed berry crepe with ricotta cream.
15:54A little bit too thick.
15:55But it's tender, so you don't feel like you're chewing through a big, thick pancake.
15:59I like the sugary strawberry powder.
16:01You can do so much with the dehydrated fruits.
16:05Big and blue cheese hand pie with granita.
16:09For a granita, the ice is too icy.
16:13Let me tell you, I love this syringe.
16:15Which I find very disturbing.
16:16They don't know.
16:17Oh, God.
16:18Oh, my God.
16:19You are attacking me.
16:20I don't like a syringe on the table.
16:26Well, I think we have our two favorites out of the five.
16:31Oh, so much sugar.
16:32It's like my heart is racing now.
16:34I apologize for all the sugar.
16:36Someone has to clean up.
16:37Martha has commented a few times on balance of dishes.
16:40It can't just be sweet on sweet.
16:42It definitely needs some acid.
16:43Tartness from the apple is going to counterbalance the sweetness that I have going on right now.
16:48I like it, but I like it, too.
16:50Try this.
16:52Oh, God.
16:53I'm not trying to on you.
16:54No, no.
16:54My cake is dry.
16:55Let's hope this milk works.
16:57Are you smoking milk?
16:58Yeah.
16:58Suck up.
16:59You know?
16:59Yeah.
16:59Good idea.
17:00Smart.
17:01Five minutes, chef.
17:02Five minutes.
17:04Pastry is also art.
17:05Let's make it beautiful.
17:06Heard.
17:06Final six for a reason.
17:08Let's remember that.
17:09Yes, chef.
17:0920 seconds.
17:10Let's go.
17:1120 seconds first.
17:12Behind, behind, behind, behind.
17:14Good job, y'all.
17:16Good job.
17:20Oh, my God.
17:22My first impression, the chefs in the competition are in the competition for a reason.
17:28First, a maple bacon pork tenderloin with sweet pepper and corn puree.
17:34And what I really like is the gastrique.
17:38Very flavorful.
17:39The only thing I wish is that the tenderloin is sliced thinner.
17:43You're right.
17:44Here's sweet and spicy glazed pork loin with pumpkin spice delicata.
17:50Mmm.
17:50The meat is pinker.
17:52It makes it more enjoyable once you have it in the mouth.
17:56Chocolate cappelletti.
17:57Peanut butter creme anglaise.
17:59If you give me peanut butter creme anglaise, my God.
18:03Weird but good.
18:04But the juice overcomes the main part of this dish.
18:08It's almost like the cappelletti is the one that doesn't belong.
18:12Sweet corn custard, brown butter cake, crispy sweet chilies.
18:17There's a lot going on in this dish.
18:19It's my type of dessert.
18:21It's very playful.
18:22It's not over sweet for a dessert.
18:25The miso chocolate brownie with a strawberry white chocolate ganache.
18:29I love white chocolate.
18:31It is the fat of the cocoa beans.
18:33But it's overly sweet.
18:35Yeah, it is very sweet.
18:36If you eat a tiny bit, I don't know.
18:39Now here's a cute dessert.
18:41Honey marshmallow with caramel corn.
18:44The presentation is beautiful.
18:45This is sort of kitschy, fun, but it's so sweet.
18:50I think the honey also brought in a flavor that isn't so good with this dessert.
18:55Oh my God, this is so difficult.
18:57How'd you do, babe?
18:58I'm happy.
18:59If you guys did better than me, I'll see you at the cook-off.
19:02Do I believe that everyone deserves a second chance?
19:04Yes, but in this game, no.
19:07We have been here.
19:09We deserve to stay.
19:10How do you feel?
19:11Like I'm going to vomit.
19:12Yeah.
19:12I don't want to see anyone come back.
19:14There's the door.
19:14He's it.
19:17You confident?
19:25I don't know.
19:25I feel good about the dish.
19:27I'm confident.
19:28I might not be MVC, but I'm confident I'm up there.
19:32Hello, chefs.
19:33Hello, chefs.
19:35So many of you, we have some results to share with you.
19:40We still don't have a clue who made what.
19:44He ate so much of every dessert.
19:49We're going to start with the current chefs.
19:52So the top three chefs will be safe and the bottom three will be at risk.
19:57Martha and I, we would like to know who made the sweet corn custard.
20:02I'm whipped cream.
20:04Zane.
20:05Zane.
20:06Zane.
20:06The brown sugar and brown butter cake play very well with the sweet corn custard.
20:13But I keep digging and digging and digging.
20:16Can I explain he's having a sugar high?
20:22Chef Zane.
20:25You're safe.
20:26Thank you, chefs.
20:28Who made the maple bacon wrapped pork tenderloin?
20:32That dish was colorful and the topping was delicious.
20:37You're safe from elimination.
20:40The miso chocolate brownie and roasted marcona almond.
20:44I would pee me.
20:45I really love brownies.
20:47I did not love your brownie.
20:50I only wish it was not so dry.
20:52It's so dry.
20:53It hurt.
20:54Unfortunately, you are going to be a great chef.
20:58Martha hates my brownie.
20:59It takes me right back to being insecure of my cooking abilities.
21:03I'm embarrassed.
21:05The honey marshmallow with caramel corn.
21:07Yes, chef.
21:08Chef Ronnie.
21:09Wow.
21:09Thank you, chef.
21:09The plate was beautiful.
21:11It was just too sweet, a little bit difficult on the teeth, and you are at risk.
21:19I disagree with the assessment.
21:22You know, I can sit here and be like, oh, you know, I don't, I'm not believing in myself.
21:25No, it's not that.
21:26I'm honestly like, what the, huh?
21:29You thought my sweet dessert was too sweet.
21:32So I'm, I'm a little mad.
21:36Who made the sweet and spicy glazed pork?
21:39And obviously the chocolate cappelletti pasta was yours, chef Christopher.
21:45One of you is at risk, and one of you is safe.
21:49Of the two dishes, we decided that, Jake, we liked your dish better.
21:57So you are safe.
21:59Chef Christopher.
22:00When the sauce is tastier than the main dish, there's some problems with that.
22:05You are at risk.
22:06So now, the eliminated chefs who have returned, there are five of you now, and two of you will
22:13have the chance to cook your way back into the competition.
22:17The lemon strawberry bourbon tart.
22:19St. Peter.
22:20Considering your injury today, it was amazing that you got a nice dessert out.
22:25It was a pretty little plate, but your lemon curd just didn't have enough lemon in it.
22:31It was not one of our favorites.
22:38Peter, we spoke, you and I, before.
22:41That's not the end.
22:43That's the beginning.
22:44Yes, chef.
22:45Thank you, chef.
22:47Who made the whimsical pastry tart?
22:50The pastry was not so flaky as it should have been, but Jose ate every single bit of that
22:59cream.
23:00So, chef, Katrina, we have some news to give you.
23:04Her dish.
23:06It was one of our two favorites.
23:11You have earned a spot in the cook-off.
23:13How does that feel?
23:14I was able to overcome all the issues with my dish.
23:23I'm definitely feeling more confident than the last time I was here.
23:26Next, ricotta.
23:27Cheesecake with berry compote.
23:30Chef Michel.
23:31That was a good cheesecake, but that one needed more crust, no less.
23:36And it was in a curved dish, so it cracked.
23:40It didn't make it through.
23:42I understand.
23:43So, that leaves chef Julia and chef T.
23:47One of you will have a chance to cook in the cook-off.
23:52We made the stuffed berry crepe with ricotta cream.
23:55The crepe was tender.
23:56I wish that crepe was thinner, but my God, that was tasty.
24:01The fig and blue cheese hand pie.
24:03The pastry was flaky and a beautiful color.
24:07I love that syringe.
24:09You took a chance with the syringe.
24:11It kind of turned me off.
24:12When I was growing up, you would finish it with the condensed milk.
24:16Did you put condensed milk on the ice?
24:18Yeah.
24:19I didn't taste that.
24:21One of you is one step closer to getting back into the competition.
24:26The final spot in the cook-off goes to...
24:31Chef Julia.
24:34That was one of my favorites.
24:38Chef T, I'm so sorry.
24:40It's okay.
24:43I've never plated anything in a syringe before.
24:45Why would I do this?
24:47But at least I'm not going home because someone's threatened by me.
24:51I'm ready to move on.
24:52Cut.
24:52Chef T.
24:54Chef Julia, Chef Katrina, congratulations.
24:56You've made it into the cook-off.
24:57When we return to the kitchen, you will choose who you want to compete against.
25:03Between Emily, Ronnie, and Chris.
25:06Chef T, Chef Peter, Chef Michelle, if you want to say your goodbyes.
25:12It's good to see you again.
25:13Okay, I saw.
25:13I may not have won my way back into the competition today, but I'm just really proud of myself.
25:20Definitely not going to let my old habits get my way.
25:22I love you, Mama.
25:23I love you too, baby.
25:24I did the best I could.
25:26I was just true to myself and I put it all out there.
25:28Take care.
25:29But...
25:29Because I wanted to win.
25:35I wanted to win so bad.
25:37You got this.
25:38Get outside of your head.
25:40Guys, we got to go.
25:41Chef Lee, Jake.
25:42Bye.
25:43Jake.
25:44Bye, guys.
25:44I got that one.
25:46Congratulations.
25:47Congratulations.
25:48To everyone.
25:49I have a tough choice right now.
25:50It's kind of hard to make a choice on who to cook against when you don't really know anything
25:54about them.
25:55This will decide whether or not I make it back into this competition.
25:58Do you guys have any idea on who you want to go against?
26:01I don't know what to expect, to be honest.
26:03I don't know Petrina at all.
26:05The one dish that she did, the lobster thing, was like a spur-of-the-moment first-day jitters.
26:10And Julia's blint was gorgeous.
26:12Yeah.
26:13She nailed it.
26:14How do you feel?
26:15Terrible.
26:16Who would you choose out of the three?
26:17Chris and Emily have Michelin experience.
26:20I don't want to say that Ronnie's the weakest link because he keeps surpassing even when
26:26I doubt him.
26:26It's probably Chris, Emily, Ronnie.
26:29As far as skill.
26:30Chris, Emily.
26:31Mm-hmm.
26:31I want back into this game.
26:33It just takes one chef to get back in.
26:35Just outcook him.
26:36Yeah.
26:37That's all you gotta do.
26:38I'm gonna pick the weakest link that I think I can eat.
26:40Welcome back to the kitchen, chefs.
26:56Once again, it's time for the cook-off.
27:00Chef Julia and Chef Petrina will be choosing who they want to compete against in the cook-off.
27:06The winner stays.
27:08The loser goes.
27:10We'll start with Petrina.
27:12I was the first eliminated, so I didn't get to see any of the talented chefs, and I know
27:17they're all talented.
27:17That being said, I choose Chris.
27:22Chris, you are to cook-off against Petrina.
27:27Let's do it.
27:28The pick from Petrina was a big surprise to me.
27:30I'm one of the best chefs.
27:32I mean, what the did I ever do to you?
27:35So, Petrina, did you ask anybody in the lounge about these three?
27:38I did.
27:39They gave their input.
27:40There was nothing.
27:41It was just I had to pick a name.
27:43Julia mentions the skills of Chris, so I'm thinking the best thing to do.
27:47Way to kind of prove myself is just beat out the best.
27:51So, Julia.
27:53So, this is hard because I love all of you.
27:57I choose Chef Ronnie.
27:59Last time we went against each other, you beat me, so now let's go again.
28:04Battle of the sexes.
28:06I wouldn't say I'm ready to go to my third cook-off, but I have to be.
28:08I'm definitely feeling more confident today, and it almost feels like this is where I live
28:12now, competing in every cook-off to save my own hide.
28:15So, chefs, one of the first lessons my father ever told me was to control my fire.
28:24And in tonight's cook-off, we are going to be asking you to control the fire.
28:30You have 30 minutes to use one of three fire techniques.
28:35The first technique is grill.
28:38Next, flambe.
28:41Flambe.
28:42And now my retinas are burned.
28:47And third, torch.
28:51Okay.
28:55Hold on.
28:58I made two dishes, and I ain't got a glass.
29:00So, the current chefs, Christopher, Ronnie, you get to choose the technique that you are
29:08going to compete with.
29:10Christopher, you get to choose first.
29:13I'm going to choose grill.
29:14I'm excited for grill.
29:15I come from a steak background, and I know I'm going to nail it.
29:19Chef Ronnie?
29:21Flambe.
29:21The only thing that I flambe or know how to flambe is crepes Suzette.
29:26And I'm like, I can't make crepes again.
29:29I literally just made them.
29:31Well, chefs, redemption is on the line.
29:34You have 30 minutes.
29:35It's starting now.
29:38Let's go, chef.
29:39You guys got this.
29:40And she's just as cool as a cucumber.
29:43I know, Pascal.
29:46Oh, look at that.
29:48All right.
29:48Me.
29:49And meat in hand.
29:50Burned my receding hairline.
29:52All right.
29:53What do we think of Julia?
29:54Are you going crepe Suzette?
29:55Crepe Suzette.
29:56Already made a crepe.
29:57Let's do it again.
29:58They liked your crepes.
29:59Nail it.
30:00She can't do a crepe again.
30:01Why revisit the same place you've been?
30:04I'm trying to beef super zen.
30:06I'm in front of Jose and Martha, but I'm terrified.
30:10Crepes got you here.
30:11That's true.
30:12Will these crepes keep you here?
30:14Let's hope.
30:15You have 25 minutes to find out.
30:17What are we thinking, bud?
30:18What are you doing, Ronnie?
30:19Salsa matcha and ribeye.
30:21And then flambe it with a little bit of mezcal.
30:24Oh, nice.
30:25All right.
30:25There we go.
30:26Beautiful.
30:27I've done okay with some desserts, but I want to show that I'm more than just sweet.
30:31I think I have a good shot of winning against her again.
30:34How often have you done flambe, chef Ronnie?
30:37On purpose or not on purpose?
30:40He's going flambe in this savory way.
30:42He's going to be using mezcal.
30:45I don't like the smoky flavor.
30:47So remember that when you make me a margarita.
30:49All right.
30:5122 minutes.
30:52All right, thanks.
30:53And chef Petrino, what are you doing?
30:55Grilled chicken curry, Martha.
30:56I grew up eating curry.
30:58My mom makes the best curry.
31:00I want to give the judges a dish to get to know me better.
31:03So now here I am finally getting what I was robbed of in the first round, which is cooking
31:09for my life.
31:10Chef Christopher, what are you going to make?
31:12Roasted vegetable risotto and some grilled filets.
31:16Interesting.
31:17Is that risotto?
31:18It's a kiss of death.
31:19Risotto?
31:19Yeah.
31:20Making risotto in 30 minutes I think is a horrible idea.
31:23You need to stand over it and stir constantly.
31:26This is not the time to try to do something that you can't walk away from.
31:31Guys, come back.
31:31Don't burn your rice.
31:32Don't burn your rice.
31:33Going risotto is definitely a bold choice.
31:36If I can pull risotto off in 30 minutes, that's going to wow the judges.
31:39Let's get some more water in that risotto.
31:41It's getting dry.
31:42Because if I can do that, I'm untouchable.
31:44If he's able to pull these, wow.
31:47Do not burn your rice.
31:48I'm going to make it.
31:49I'm going to make it.
31:49Don't burn the rice.
31:50Don't burn the rice.
31:50You guys got 15.
31:59Heard.
32:01Flambe.
32:02Flambe moment.
32:04Oh!
32:06So the flambe is the moment that you burn the alcohol.
32:09You let the alcohol reduce.
32:12So it's bringing the aroma of the liquor.
32:15Mezcal in this case.
32:16Tilt it.
32:17There you go.
32:18Fire.
32:19Woo!
32:19Julia is now starting to flambe.
32:22Both got the flambe we were looking for.
32:25Risotto, come check.
32:27Thank you, chef.
32:27That was nice, chef.
32:28You're playing fair.
32:29Right now, I feel like my biggest competition is myself.
32:32Even though there is a cook-off happening, on the inside, there's an internal battle that
32:38I have to face alone.
32:39There's just no way of telling from the outside.
32:41You're just never going to know, because it's the same face.
32:47I've never made risotto on a pan like that.
32:49Did you add cream to it?
32:50Yeah.
32:51Oh.
32:51Going on a whim here.
32:53Every Italian just rolled over in their grave.
32:55Yeah.
32:55It's sacrilegious to add cream to a risotto.
32:58The creaminess of a risotto comes from the rice itself, and he's got me nervous right now,
33:03for sure.
33:06Oh, no.
33:07You okay, chef?
33:08Friendly fire.
33:09Into the face.
33:10Ronnie, how you feeling?
33:11I'm feeling wonderful.
33:12Where are you at with your matcha?
33:13It's almost done.
33:14Love that.
33:15We have five minutes.
33:16Five minutes.
33:17Just make sure those are hot.
33:19Everything needs to go out hot.
33:20How's it look, chef?
33:22Whoa!
33:2230 seconds, chef.
33:2930 seconds.
33:30Hit it on the plate.
33:32Make it look beautiful.
33:33Five, four, three, two, one.
33:37Good job, chef.
33:38Time's up.
33:38Good job, chef.
33:39Good job.
33:42It's been very exciting finish.
33:49You're not going to flambe at the table?
33:50I didn't want any hair to go missing, you know?
33:54Hey, Ronnie.
33:55Yes.
33:55What did you make for us tonight?
33:56Cancer ribeye with a salsa matcha, cauliflower puree, and I flambeed the steak and the salsa
34:04matcha with mezcal.
34:05It's a lot of things going on in the matcha sauce.
34:10So, chef Yulia, you already made us a crepe.
34:12Yes.
34:13Are you doubling down on crepes?
34:15I am.
34:16Why not double down on the crepe?
34:17If you guys liked it, and this was my 30-minute take on a crepe Suzette with orange liqueur,
34:23blood orange, and I flambeed the syrup with the oranges inside.
34:27Mm-hmm.
34:28It would be super embarrassing to be eliminated again this quickly.
34:33Like, I just did a cook-off and got eliminated.
34:35Do I have to make an ass of myself again on national television?
34:38Well, thank you very much.
34:40Another set of dishes to taste.
34:42Yes, chef.
34:44Thank you, chef.
34:46A little hot, chef.
34:47Thank you very much.
34:48Be careful.
34:49Chef Petrina, what did you make?
34:51So, I decided if I'm going to go out, it's going to go something that is a part of my heart,
34:55so I wanted to do a curry.
34:56So, it's a grilled curry chicken dish.
34:58You describe curry like very personal to you.
35:01So, I was actually born in Jamaica.
35:03I lived there until I was nine, and I grew up eating curry, so I went with that.
35:07Now, Christopher, tell us what you did.
35:10Today, I presented to you a grilled technique three different ways.
35:13So, first, you're going to have, obviously, your grilled steak.
35:15In your risotto, you have grilled vegetables.
35:17And then, for the sauce, I did a roasted red pepper, coulis, if you want to call it.
35:21You make risotto often?
35:23Yes, chef.
35:25Very tough decision to make.
35:27Thank you very much.
35:28I swung for the fences week after week, you know, making fresh pasta, making risotto.
35:34I went on a whim here, and I cannot go home tonight.
35:36In the flambe challenge between Julia and Ronnie.
35:40One dessert against a savory dish.
35:43The quality of the crepes now were better than a few hours ago.
35:48They were.
35:48It was simple and delicious.
35:51But I wish was more sauce.
35:53Chef Ronnie got the explosion of the day.
35:57The meat was well cooked.
35:59But you know what I wish?
36:01That out of that flambe was enough remaining mezcal to right there make a sauce.
36:08And now for the grilling challenge, chef Petrina.
36:11The chicken curry with those beautifully grilled vegetables.
36:15The sauce is flavorful.
36:18I only wish she waited longer to slice her chicken because it will be slightly more juicy.
36:27On the other hand, chef Christopher, he cooked a beautiful piece of meat.
36:33But the risotto falls a little bit short.
36:36A little bit underdone.
36:37I hope my game plan worked.
36:39I am 100% confident in this.
36:41I do steak every day at my restaurant.
36:43And it's very easy to overseen a curry chicken.
36:46How'd your risotto come on?
36:47Good.
36:48I'm happy with the cream.
36:49Petrina, you're the weakest link.
36:51Goodbye.
36:51If I go home on that today, you outcook me.
36:54Chefs, kudos to you.
37:03You are so hard.
37:04Thank you, chef.
37:05Tonight, chef Martha and I had a tough decision to make.
37:11And two of you are going to be eliminated.
37:15In the flambe challenge between Julia and Ronnie, we have our winner.
37:24Chef Julia.
37:36You will rejoin the competition.
37:39Thank you, chefs.
37:40Chef Ronnie, you chose mezcal.
37:43That flavor almost felt like it was a mismatch.
37:46The cauliflower, the meat, the sauce.
37:49The ingredients were not talking to each other.
37:51Chef Ronnie, unfortunately, this means that you are out from yes, chef.
37:59Yeah.
38:02I definitely didn't fully believe myself.
38:07But these chefs did.
38:14Still do.
38:15Still do.
38:16Still do.
38:17I love you, too.
38:21That's enough for me.
38:23Chef Ronnie, you came to this show not fully secure of who you are as a chef.
38:29But slowly, week after week, your fellow chefs here, they end calling you the professor.
38:36They listen to your wisdom.
38:38We are so proud of you for that.
38:40Thank you, Ronnie.
38:42And now for the grilling challenge between Chef Petrina and Chef Christopher.
38:48The winner is...
38:51Chef Petrina.
38:58Two of our group just got wiped out, and this competition has definitely just changed.
39:10Congratulations, Chef Petrina.
39:12Not what I was expecting.
39:14But at the end of the day, everybody's going home, except for one.
39:18You might be looking at her.
39:19And I'm sorry, Chris, but you are also out of the competition.
39:23The risotto was a little underdone and inconsistent.
39:30The sauce, I know you know you can make it better.
39:33The different components were not won.
39:36They were not showing the Chef Christopher we know.
39:39Well, I won.
39:45I didn't win the grand prize.
39:47But I won something that you can't put a price tag on.
39:51I won family.
39:53Between me and these chefs, we have a bond.
39:56And my chapter here might be done.
39:59And my story has just begun.
40:03I'm leaving here with my head held high.
40:05I learned that I can take constructive criticism from another chef.
40:10Taking orders from a chef that's half my age, without my ego getting in the way.
40:16Moving forward, I'm going to be a better person in the kitchen and in life.
40:20Only as good as the last dish we make.
40:24But the great news is that every day, we have the chance to cook again.
40:28Yeah.
40:29I'm just going to remind myself every single day of the things that are being spoken to me by other chefs.
40:37I will be trusting in myself more.
40:41Good night, guys.
40:42Good night, Chef.
40:44Good night, Chef.
40:45Oh.
40:47There you go.
40:48So, chefs, the kitchen is now closed.
40:53Yes, sir.
40:55Thank you, Chef.
40:56I made it through winning two dishes back to back.
41:00I can't.
41:01I can barely make it.
41:02I can't.
41:03Redemption feels amazing.
41:07Sorry, y'all.
41:08We're excited for you.
41:09But this was a very difficult one for us.
41:12We're all going through motions.
41:14We've just been through so much together.
41:16It's very strange to have somebody who's been through none of it come into our world.
41:22Do you want to go in the room?
41:23Sure.
41:24Right now, I feel as if everyone's shocked.
41:27And I'm a little worried on what that's going to mean for me.
41:32They did not expect to lose two people.
41:34No.
41:34Where do we go from here?
41:35Final four sitting at this table.
41:37Yep.
41:37Yep.
41:38Us four, we've been here since day one.
41:41We've put in the work it takes to stay here.
