Pune, Maharashtra — A 59-year-old man, Amol Arun Kulkarni, was detained by Pune Police after he was caught on video urinating on a signboard of Shivsrushti — a historical theme park dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj — at Ambegaon Budruk. The shocking act, recorded by students of Sinhgad College around 3 AM on Saturday, has triggered widespread outrage.
The video shows Kulkarni desecrating the memorial’s entrance signage while a woman, believed to be his wife Sneha Amol Kulkarni (57), stood nearby filming on her phone. The footage was shared with members of the Maratha Seva Sangh, who immediately alerted Bharti Vidyapeeth Police.
Senior Inspector Savalaram Salgaonkar confirmed that Kulkarni was taken into custody for questioning. “We are investigating his motive, especially since this happened at such an odd hour,” he said.
According to the complainant, Nayanath Tukaram Amrale (23), two vehicles were parked near the entrance when the act occurred. When confronted, Kulkarni allegedly said arrogantly, “Do whatever you want,” further provoking locals who demanded strict legal action.
An FIR has been registered against both Amol and Sneha Kulkarni under sections related to hurting religious sentiments. Assistant Police Inspector Mithun Pardeshi is leading the investigation.
The act has drawn fierce condemnation from across Maharashtra, with many viewing it as a grave insult to the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the pride of the Maratha community.
