00:02:13He's probably the best he's ever been in his career.
00:02:16Look at the numbers.
00:02:17I mean, he's compared to Jet Lawrence.
00:02:18The kid's just on a different level,
00:02:20and it might continue here today at Hangtown.
00:02:22Yeah, being better than Jet Lawrence
00:02:23in the first full two seasons in pro motocross is impressive.
00:02:28But this Jet guy has done pretty well
00:02:30since moving to the 450 class.
00:02:32He won the title as a rookie in 2023,
00:02:34missed last year with injury,
00:02:36and bouncing back in a big way at the opener last weekend.
00:02:39Yes, he did.
00:02:40I mean, he came to a place where he's won every moto.
00:02:42Actually, he led every lap at that place,
00:02:45and it continued last weekend.
00:02:46And we were looking forward to Chase Sexton, Eli Tomac,
00:02:49his brother coming back, Jorge Prada.
00:02:51But Jet was just like Hayden Deegan on a different level,
00:02:55made it look pretty easy, worked on the bike.
00:02:58Kid's just different.
00:02:59He's different, and his mindset is just like Hayden Deegan,
00:03:01and he was able to come out with another 1-1.
00:03:04And one note, last year's 250, or sorry, 450 champ
00:03:07and winner here at Hangtown, Chase Sexton crashed out
00:03:10around 1, and is not going to be racing at Hangtown.
00:03:14Here's how it started last week.
00:03:15Goggle problem early in the race.
00:03:17Pulls the goggles off.
00:03:18You almost never see that early.
00:03:20And then this crash ended his day
00:03:24and then would also keep him out for this weekend.
00:03:26Nothing broken, says Chase, but he's banged up,
00:03:29hopefully, the 2024 champion.
00:03:31And the star at Hangtown a year ago
00:03:33is back on the track soon.
00:03:35So that's the news in the 450 class.
00:03:36We switch back to the 250s and introduce Haley Chandler to the show.
00:03:41Haley, who you got?
00:03:42I got Juju, Julian Beaumere, Julian from Leading Labs.
00:03:45That was a solid opening round,
00:03:47but the mindset today is to take it up a notch, you said.
00:03:49So what have you been doing to prepare to do just that?
00:03:52Yeah, we worked on the bike a little bit this week.
00:03:53I wasn't too happy with our setup last week,
00:03:55and I think we're in a lot better spot today.
00:03:58Tracks are going to be fast.
00:03:59It's going to be warm, so I think we're ready,
00:04:01and I'm ready to turn it up.
00:04:03Setup improvements for Julian Beaumere.
00:04:05Follow me down here.
00:04:06We're going to see if we can catch another rider at the line.
00:04:09I've got Joe Shimoda down here.
00:04:12Joe, last weekend, 2-2, that was fantastic.
00:04:15How much has that set the tone for your week
00:04:17and coming into race day today?
00:04:20I don't know.
00:04:20I think I trade it every weekend the same,
00:04:24just each session by each session, you know,
00:04:28trying to do my best.
00:04:30And today it's going to be hot,
00:04:31so I think it's going to be more like physical demanding
00:04:34and, yeah, ready to do it.
00:04:36He's ready.
00:04:36It sounds like a bit of a reset for Joe Shimoda.
00:04:40Thank you, Haley.
00:04:41You hear these riders mentioning the temperature.
00:04:42It's not so bad in the morning,
00:04:44but by the race time, it's going to get hot,
00:04:46and that's not the only thing to deal with.
00:04:48Of course, the Hangtown track is a factor.
00:04:50Here's the Omaha track map.
00:04:51James?
00:04:51Well, they made a lot of changes last year with this change.
00:04:54They changed a few sections on these guys,
00:04:56but right here off the start,
00:04:57it's going to be important for all of them,
00:04:59as we mentioned, every weekend to get off the gate.
00:05:01And this first section, a lot of up and downhills,
00:05:04like this really fast kind of bottle X up in here.
00:05:07You come back up towards the step up,
00:05:08and then you start heading down where we saw the crash
00:05:10with Jet Lawrence in this third sector.
00:05:13Head back up through the rollers right here.
00:05:15These guys are going to be, especially with the heat,
00:05:17it's going to be hard on that body.
00:05:19Then you head back down towards the middle part of the field,
00:05:22get a couple 90s, 180s up in here,
00:05:25right before you get up into this big old finish line
00:05:28or tabletop jump.
00:05:29Then you head back up towards the highest point of the track
00:05:32right before you head down towards the mechanics area.
00:05:34So it's going to be a long track.
00:05:36They brought some of the soil,
00:05:38different soil in the track this weekend.
00:05:40And for more on that, we go down to JT.
00:05:43Well, thank you, James.
00:05:44And I'm standing in the section right before the mechanics area
00:05:47and true to form, Jet Lawrence is trying to innovate today
00:05:51because with the heat, a really rough racetrack,
00:05:53he's going to try to avoid all of the bumps that he can.
00:05:57Now, I believe we have some footage of Jet
00:05:59trying to execute this.
00:06:00And you're going to see him.
00:06:01He's setting up.
00:06:02He's going to drop down the hill now.
00:06:04He's got some rollers in here.
00:06:05You're going to see him try to jump.
00:06:06He sets up, tries to hop and hop.
00:06:09Now, he didn't execute it very cleanly there.
00:06:11But what he's trying to do is just avoid
00:06:13all of the bumps they're going to set in.
00:06:14If he can hop across the bumps,
00:06:16there's one final bump right here.
00:06:18This is what he's trying to jump over.
00:06:20So watch for that.
00:06:21As the track gets rougher and rougher throughout the day,
00:06:23Jet's going to try to avoid all of that.
00:06:25And it's what he does so well, guys.
00:06:27That's really interesting to see as, thanks, JT,
00:06:30we transition back to the 250 class.
00:06:33It's funny, though.
00:06:33I had a conversation with RJ Hemshire,
00:06:35who has now moved to the 450s after racing 250s for a decade.
00:06:39And he said, until I got to the 450 class last weekend,
00:06:42I never had time to even think about lines
00:06:44and hopping things like Jet does.
00:06:46Yeah, I mean, in the 450, compared to the 250,
00:06:49there's just so much power.
00:06:50So I can understand what RJ's saying.
00:06:52And, you know, a lot of this comes down to is,
00:06:55you know, it's not like you can just come out here
00:06:56and just hold the bikes wide open.
00:06:58Well, in 250s, you can get away with that.
00:07:00The 450, you have to be patient.
00:07:02You have to think about it.
00:07:03And Jet Lawrence is clearly one of those guys.
00:07:05And RJ's taking notes as well.
00:07:07So for him, maybe some of the crashes won't come out
00:07:09because he's thinking a little bit more.
00:07:11But we'll find out today.
00:07:13250 riders, this is start practice.
00:07:16It'll be a few minutes of this
00:07:17before they start on corking laps.
00:07:18They did ride earlier in the first qualifying session.
00:07:22There's Deacon locking in for a practice start.
00:07:25Yeah, these guys.
00:07:26A little pair up right next to them.
00:07:27Go ahead.
00:07:27Yeah, they're just trying to figure out,
00:07:28you know, a good angle.
00:07:29You know, they don't get,
00:07:31most of the teams, they have these great starts,
00:07:33you know, so they can practice on or do it in a week.
00:07:35But just making sure to see how the bike reacts.
00:07:37It's all the difference, clutches, and all these things.
00:07:39So not too much going on.
00:07:41And I remember when it's hot days like this,
00:07:44you got probably 90% of these guys,
00:07:46they're not even really paying attention to the start.
00:07:48You know, they're just like,
00:07:49all right, we'll just go through the process
00:07:50because it's going to be so long,
00:07:52because it's going to be a grueling day.
00:07:55It's going to be tough for these guys as they go.
00:07:59So you're saying you're thinking about the end of the moto,
00:08:01right off the bat.
00:08:03Yeah, we're thinking about,
00:08:05I mean, again, you got Hayden and the top guys.
00:08:08They're, you know, they're thinking about getting off the gate.
00:08:10But most of these guys are just trying to make sure
00:08:12they finish this today.
00:08:13So you're definitely thinking about the end of the day
00:08:15and getting out of here in one piece and healthy.
00:08:19We asked Hayden Deegan himself
00:08:20about these weather conditions yesterday.
00:08:25Yeah, I'm excited.
00:08:26I'm like, bring on the weather.
00:08:27I want it to be 100 out here.
00:08:28We train in Florida.
00:08:30I feel like I have the best fitness in the 250 class.
00:08:33So I'm excited.
00:08:34Bring on the heat.
00:08:35I'm ready for anything that comes my way.
00:08:36I am not surprised by that answer.
00:08:40Are you?
00:08:41No, not.
00:08:43But when there's these type of conditions,
00:08:45you got to treat it almost like guys who love the mud.
00:08:48When you hear the attitude like Justin Barsher,
00:08:50Aaron Plesscher, guys, it's like, man, I let it rain.
00:08:53You got to have that same mindset when it's hot like that
00:08:56because everybody's going to be suffering.
00:08:58Hayden's going to be suffering.
00:08:59He's going to be tired.
00:09:00But if you can talk yourself into just like, look,
00:09:03it's going to be great.
00:09:03Just like the mud,
00:09:05you're going to have a good chance of getting out of here
00:09:06with a W today.
00:09:08So Deegan, certainly the target with the number one plate
00:09:10from last year and then winning the opener.
00:09:12There are still so many questions in this 250 class.
00:09:16We saw some signs from some riders, the Honda riders.
00:09:19We talked to Joe Shimoda earlier with Haley.
00:09:21Chad Simon showed some speed.
00:09:23I'm thinking of some of those pro circuit Kawasaki riders
00:09:26maybe looking to bounce back this weekend.
00:09:28And a real wild card there with Jeremy Martin,
00:09:30the multi-time champion of this series
00:09:31who we pretty much thought was retired,
00:09:34has decided to race in what he's calling the cherry on the Sunday
00:09:37of his career.
00:09:39I don't know what we're going to get out of the number six
00:09:41and why he decided to come back.
00:09:44Well, we actually asked him about that yesterday.
00:09:45Yeah, I think the decision to come back was,
00:09:49well, first off, if there's any teams that were ever going to pull me back,
00:09:53it was probably going to be possibly a Star Yamaha situation.
00:09:57I was pretty content at that point.
00:09:58I was the VIP host.
00:10:00And then I was in the process of learning the family business.
00:10:02My parents have owned Spring Creek Motocross Park for over 30 years.
00:10:05And it's been my mom and dad's kind of life's work.
00:10:08And then, you know, that's kind of the next step for Alex and I,
00:10:12once professional racers,
00:10:13now possibly in the future a promoter of, you know, a racetrack.
00:10:18So, but I think last year I was a little bit kind of bummed
00:10:21on how things went.
00:10:22And, you know, I think I'd like to have the cherry on top.
00:10:26And if the opportunity was there and Star,
00:10:30they needed a fill-in rider and I rode the bike.
00:10:33I was decent that day.
00:10:34And they said, hey, we'd like you to do the first three rounds.
00:10:37And here I am.
00:10:38I'm talking with you guys.
00:10:40I got a goal this coming Saturday, a.k.a. tomorrow.
00:10:43And we're looking to improve on last weekend at Paula.
00:10:47Really fun to have him back.
00:10:49I did talk to him yesterday as well.
00:10:51I don't think this is the 2014 Jeremy Martin
00:10:54where the goal is 1-1 every weekend.
00:10:56I think he's enjoying it.
00:10:57And we'll see.
00:10:58Last week the results are only around 20th.
00:11:00Should be better this week.
00:11:01We'll find out.
00:11:02And we can show you a little more from qualifying earlier today.
00:11:07This is just about 8 o'clock local time.
00:11:10Here's who's going fast.
00:11:11Ty Masterpool, who is under the weather this weekend.
00:11:13But he can always go fast for a bit.
00:11:16Yeah, Ty showed some speed in the early part of the motos last weekend.
00:11:19And we know how his season went.
00:11:21He was able to secure this pro second rod for this year,
00:11:25how good he rode.
00:11:25So came out.
00:11:26He was third fastest at a 57.3.
00:11:30A little over a second off of Hayden Deegan.
00:11:32But overall, Ty looks good.
00:11:36Unfortunately, he's going to be under the weather.
00:11:37So that's going to be tough.
00:11:38And then you had Chance Hymas.
00:11:39Actually had to pass his lap for a long time.
00:11:41That first one, you know, at a 57th flat.
00:11:44Pretty close to Hayden, I think, for him.
00:11:47He's got to get that mindset.
00:11:49As you hear Hayden, just happy.
00:11:51Look, let it be 100 degrees, you know.
00:11:53I think if he gets that mindset,
00:11:55he's got to speed clearly to run with those guys.
00:11:57And that's second.
00:12:00And here's the fastest qualifier from earlier today, and that's Deegan.
00:12:03Yeah, just Hayden.
00:12:05I mean, once you get that ball rolling, you know,
00:12:07whether it's rolling uphill, downhill, whatever it is,
00:12:10you get that right momentum.
00:12:11Hayden has it, and that confidence is just showing it.
00:12:14And like I said, it almost becomes easy, you know,
00:12:16when you get to that point where Hayden is right now.
00:12:18You just know you're going to feel good.
00:12:20The bike's great.
00:12:21So it's showing, and he was your fastest qualifier,
00:12:23about half a second, JT.
00:12:25Yeah, James, it's funny.
00:12:26It was a little role reversal this week,
00:12:28and we'll see how this second session turns out.
00:12:30But Chantimus had the fastest time
00:12:32all the way through the second half of that qualifying session.
00:12:34Then Deegan one-upped him on the last lap.
00:12:36So if you remember, at Fox Raceway,
00:12:38it was exactly the opposite,
00:12:39where Chantimus was able to get Hayden Deegan
00:12:43as he was sitting on the podium ready to talk to me, actually.
00:12:47So I think the track's a little slower this time.
00:12:49It's a little bit too rough.
00:12:50I don't think we're going to get a better time.
00:12:51So just funny to see the tit-for-tat between those two.
00:12:54Thanks, JT.
00:12:55And here are the times that we're referencing.
00:12:58It's about a half-second quicker, Deegan, at the very end.
00:13:01Or a master pull.
00:13:03Third, March Banks riding well again.
00:13:05Fourth, Casey Cochran making his return to racing
00:13:07after a big leg injury.
00:13:09Finally was back last weekend.
00:13:10He's fifth.
00:13:11Hamaker, Boland, Moseman, Bomer, Vial, the top ten.
00:13:16And this is a quick reminder of how deep the 250 deal is.
00:13:19Yeah, it definitely is.
00:13:22And with this track, normally, as JT mentioned,
00:13:25it's usually the fastest lap times come from the beginning.
00:13:28It slows down.
00:13:29It gets a little bit rougher.
00:13:30And I don't know why compared to other tracks,
00:13:32but most guys' emphasis to be fast in the first practice here.
00:13:36So we'll see if that plays out today in the second one.
00:13:40So this is Hymas on the ten.
00:13:43Was quick early in the day, as mentioned last week.
00:13:46Hole shot the first moto.
00:13:47I thought, well, wait a minute.
00:13:48Maybe he's just going to check out here.
00:13:50But he wasn't actually that happy with the motorcycle.
00:13:52And he told me after the race he kind of knew it was going to come undone,
00:13:56and it did.
00:13:56He eventually crashed while leading.
00:13:58And then a bad start in moto too.
00:14:00So speed definitely there.
00:14:02See if he can do it all day today.
00:14:03Yeah, and you're probably wondering, like, I mean, why is he thinking negative?
00:14:08But the crazy part is, as a rider, you know when you're playing with false money
00:14:12and false sense of hope.
00:14:14And sometimes, like, you know, when I wasn't feeling good, I got a hole shot.
00:14:18I'm like, I know this ain't going to last.
00:14:19Like, I'm out here running.
00:14:21I'm pulling away, but I can't keep this thing going.
00:14:23And that's what Chance was referencing.
00:14:25Like, he knew he had the pace, and it was good to see,
00:14:28but he probably had a good feeling that he was on the edge to do it.
00:14:31So good for him to admit it.
00:14:32Hopefully this weekend's better.
00:14:34This track view is showing where the riders actually are
00:14:36with the track map live here at Hangtown.
00:14:39Now, what Chance has said is that he realized quickly the bike was too soft,
00:14:43the suspension was too soft, and he was going to have a tough time holding on.
00:14:46And then, James, I must have talked to half a dozen riders this morning saying,
00:14:50yep, my bike was too soft last week.
00:14:52Is that a normal round one thing, or is that odd when you hear that?
00:14:56Well, when you're asking me, I had one of the stiffest motorcycles in business.
00:14:59So my motocross suspension was literally supercross for most of these guys,
00:15:03but, yeah, I just think it's the difference between, you know,
00:15:07when you go from supercross to motocross, it's just a speed change,
00:15:10and it's hard to adjust to that when you're practicing.
00:15:13And so when you show up at the first race, you know, you're out testing,
00:15:16you have a setup, and then you show up at the first race,
00:15:19and you guys are just going so much faster.
00:15:20So, yeah, it is typical to be a little bit softer on the motocross.
00:15:26Ironically, when you go to supercross, it's the opposite.
00:15:28You show up with a lot stiffer.
00:15:30You're too stiff normally for the first race.
00:15:32So just the difference in, you know, styles and track conditions
00:15:36and where you are in the season.
00:15:37So it's a little bit just you ride harder in the race
00:15:40compared to when you were testing to prepare,
00:15:42and then suddenly what felt right is too soft?
00:15:45Yeah, so in motocross, you know, when you're –
00:15:48since you only have a week, essentially, in the supercross and motocross,
00:15:52like it's just a huge speed difference.
00:15:54So you can't really imitate that speed that quickly.
00:15:57Right.
00:15:57Where supercross, you have months to prepare for.
00:16:00So I think it just comes down to it's not that you're riding harder.
00:16:02It's just the tracks are a lot faster once you get to the motocross.
00:16:05They're more set up to go faster where when you're doing it on the testing,
00:16:09the tracks aren't deep like this, so it wasn't allowed to guys.
00:16:12So it's typical.
00:16:13So watching Juju, Beaumere there at the bottom box,
00:16:18currently ninth quickest.
00:16:21No mistake at the top of the hill.
00:16:23Yeah, Juju had a pretty good opening ride.
00:16:25I mean, he got caught by Hayden on both motos, but he was up front.
00:16:28So, you know, normally this track is a little bit harder, you know, hard base,
00:16:33and that's where the KTMs and Juju rides really good when that track gets hard now.
00:16:36So we'll see how that plays out.
00:16:38If it drives out a lot today, it might be pretty solid.
00:16:41And then Deegan in that top box letting it hang right now.
00:16:45The experts here, though, James and JT, think that the fastest times that are already listed on the left,
00:16:51that's from session one, might hold up.
00:16:54Deegan just threw in a heater, but again, it doesn't change the actual qualifying board.
00:16:59Yeah, because normally with Hangtown, it doesn't get those gnarly big breaking bumps as you would see at like a red bud.
00:17:07So the track just gets really choppy.
00:17:10So when you come out here in that first practice, it just takes a long time.
00:17:13By the motos, they get choppy, but the bumps are, like I mentioned, they're different.
00:17:17So you can go really fast.
00:17:19It's like showing up at your local track in the beginning part of the day.
00:17:22Just go wide open, something like a Southwick.
00:17:24So I think that's why the tracks are always here, particularly here.
00:17:28It's always pretty quick in the beginning.
00:17:32And JT.
00:17:33Yeah, just to add a little bit to what James is saying there, I think also it's the soil composition.
00:17:38You think about tracks like Red Bud, sometimes Spring Creek.
00:17:41They'll start out so deep because the dirt will hold so much moisture.
00:17:45In that first practice, you're almost riding through mud in so many sections.
00:17:49The second track, it works in a little bit, and especially on these 250s that are down on power compared to the 450s.
00:17:55The track's more compact.
00:17:56They can actually drive out of the corners and start to lower that lap time as the track starts to dry out.
00:18:00And to that end, Deegan fastest on track right now, but it's still over a second slower than what he had earlier today.
00:18:07That's his master pull going down a moment ago.
00:18:10Yeah, one of those tighter corners.
00:18:12I don't know if he caught his front brake on one of those edge or maybe hit neutral, but definitely the weight of his feet was going over his head.
00:18:20He came to a sudden stop momentum.
00:18:22So a little tip over, no harm, no foul.
00:18:27Yeah, you mentioned that Beaumere here on the 23 was quick early in the motos.
00:18:31It ends up getting bumped off the podium.
00:18:33But to me, I would still say that's a positive sign.
00:18:36Still one of the better runs he's had.
00:18:38It is only race one full season last year is a rookie up 450 riders getting ready.
00:18:43There's Hunter Lawrence about to head over to his Honda and we'll have their qualifying session soon.
00:18:51Yeah, Hunter rode pretty good that first one.
00:18:53But yeah, when you look overall, I mean, if it wasn't just for Hayden just being on such a different level, I mean, all these guys rode really good.
00:19:01I think Chance had a good opening ride.
00:19:03You know, again, all these guys did, but it's going to be definitely tough and we'll see what happens.
00:19:11But we're going to go down to Haley.
00:19:12What are you down there with Hunter Lawrence?
00:19:15That's right.
00:19:15Hunter Lawrence.
00:19:16Hunter, I know you and the team spent the week testing in California.
00:19:19You mentioned last weekend how you still want to make improvements to this bike.
00:19:22So how much closer are you?
00:19:24Yeah, another step closer, which is good.
00:19:26You know, hopefully it reflects in a result.
00:19:28A lot of the time you can test it a lot and it doesn't always translate.
00:19:33So hopefully we've hit the nail on the head and you guys see it translate well.
00:19:37Can you describe the feeling that you're trying to achieve when you're doing this testing?
00:19:41Is it a certain part of the bike?
00:19:43Is it a feeling?
00:19:44What exactly are you chasing?
00:19:46I could probably tell you my feedback towards the team and stuff, but no one would really understand except the rider, I guess.
00:19:53We have a pretty unique way of explaining things.
00:19:55I'm sure the moto language, everyone knows what I'm talking about, can understand.
00:19:59It's sometimes pretty disjointed and we try our best to communicate it to the team.
00:20:04But ideally, comfort, something predictable that you can just trust, take different lines that you haven't raced in that moto yet
00:20:13and trust that the bike's going to look after you and ultimately not, you know, put you on your head.
00:20:17So that's a shorter, simpler version of what every rider's out there looking for.
00:20:22Thank you for the description and good luck in qualifying.
00:20:24Hunter Lawrence.
00:20:26Yeah, that was good, actually.
00:20:28Yeah.
00:20:28Putting it in layman's terms.
00:20:30Yeah, what he's talking about, when he's talking about trust and comfort, when a guy is uncomfortable,
00:20:35they'll just take the same line over and over and over.
00:20:38And the reason they do that is because they're trying to find, they just want no predictability.
00:20:42And so if you have that, if you're unsure, you're not going to, you know, wander out to different lines.
00:20:48You're going to just take a line that you just know, hey, it's bad, but I know it's going to be bad.
00:20:53So what he's trying to do is search for that, to be able to open up some of the track, and then he's going to be able to be relaxed.
00:20:59Unfortunately for him, as he gets better, his brother's going to get better as well.
00:21:04So it's going to be tough for him to improve that much.
00:21:08Hey, here's Nate Thrasher on the 41, crashed out of the race last weekend.
00:21:12So here's an update on his condition.
00:21:17Yeah, a little bruise, banged up.
00:21:19But, yeah, went down there on the first lap of that first moto there and got run over a couple times and did all I could to finish.
00:21:27But then after that, I went and got checked out, just make sure nothing was up.
00:21:31And then they felt the stomach around, and they wanted to go get me checked out.
00:21:35So, yeah, it was just a precaution kind of thing and just make sure there was no internal bleeding.
00:21:39But they're all good, just some bruised ribs, bruised, not lungs, but, you know, bruise down there in the kidney area and all that, too.
00:21:48So, yeah, it's going to be a tough weekend for me.
00:21:50But, yeah, we'll get through it.
00:21:53Well, good to hear that was only precautionary for Thrasher.
00:21:56Saw him roll past a crash.
00:21:58I think this is it right here.
00:22:03That's Hunter Yoder.
00:22:06Uh-oh, bad spot.
00:22:07Oh.
00:22:07Oh.
00:22:09Oh.
00:22:10Oh.
00:22:12Yeah, that kid did actually a really good job at trying to bend his head down so he can do a complete flip.
00:22:19That's the last thing you want to do.
00:22:20But that's a tough section because they were going so fast.
00:22:23It was right after the finish line, and Hunter lost the front.
00:22:26He slid all the way through, and his bike was just sitting there.
00:22:28So they're going to red flag it because of that situation.
00:22:31That was Trevor Collum, by the way, on that 89 that went for that ride.
00:22:36Had to do the downhill, so that only led to more time airborne.
00:22:41So that red flag, I would presume because of that crash we just showed you.
00:22:46And Masterpool gets a chance to download with his team.
00:22:55There's Dave, the suspension guy, on the right side of the screen.
00:23:00Okay, so hopefully nothing too bad out there with that qualifying crash.
00:23:05We'll take a break on RDL, and we'll be right back from Hangtown.
00:23:09We'll be right back.

00:25:04Welcome back.
00:25:15Race Day Live.
00:25:16SMX World Championship from Hangtown in Northern California.
00:25:19We had a red flag situation after a big crash in qualifying a moment ago.
00:25:24We'll try to get you some info from the track when we can get it.
00:25:28We have some other things to discuss here, though.
00:25:30We welcome back Dr. Joe McGinley from the McGinley Clinic.
00:25:33I say welcome back because this guy was busy trying to climb Mount Everest.
00:25:38I don't even mean that in a figurative sense.
00:25:40I mean it literally.
00:25:41We're going to save that convo to next week when you join us in the relatively low for you elevation of Colorado.
00:25:48The other big feat here is Jet Lawrence.
00:25:50You saw it last week.
00:25:51Returned just over three months off of ACL surgery.
00:25:53Wins the race.
00:25:54What are these athletes doing to speed up the process, Joe?
00:25:58Well, first, it's incredible to see Jeff back doing as well as he's doing.
00:26:02We talked about it a little bit on the SMX Insider podcast.
00:26:05I fully expected him to be back for the Nationals.
00:26:07What we're seeing with a lot of the riders, they're really pushing that time limit.
00:26:11It's not necessarily the surgeries that are getting him back.
00:26:14It's all the post-treatment care that they're receiving.
00:26:16There's all type of new technologies out there.
00:26:18There's cell therapies.
00:26:19There's cold therapy, laser therapy, ultrasound therapies.
00:26:22It's all of that that's helping to accelerate the healing beyond what is typically expected.
00:26:28Now, is that ACL knee fully healed?
00:26:30I doubt it.
00:26:31You know, it still is just going to take some physical time.
00:26:34But he obviously is out there, is performing at an incredible level.
00:26:38We're seeing that limit get pushed much more frequently with the riders.
00:26:42But you don't think he's at risk then, even though it's not maybe fully healed?
00:26:45No.
00:26:46Obviously, if he's going to be in a crash, that's going to be a little bit weaker than normal.
00:26:50So there's always a chance that he can re-tear it in that situation.
00:26:53But if all goes well, he's out there riding.
00:26:55He's at no increased risk compared to other riders out there.
00:26:59So, yeah, with an injury, yes, it's a little bit weaker.
00:27:02It has a higher chance of tearing.
00:27:03But, yeah, I don't expect that to impact him while he's out there racing.
00:27:07Now, is it the ligament or is it the muscles around that the weaker part is the risk?
00:27:13Yeah, typically with the ligament, they do a reconstruction.
00:27:17They do anchors into the bone.
00:27:18So you need that physical healing of the anchors into the bone to stabilize that ligament.
00:27:23Yes, you do have healing in the muscle and tissue as they go through it.
00:27:26But it's more that physical healing.
00:27:28It just takes time for the bone to heal and for that graft to stabilize inside there.
00:27:32I got you.
00:27:33Got you.
00:27:33And I would say the biggest difference between motocross, supercross, compared to, you know,
00:27:38football is just to stop and go, you know.
00:27:40So, you know, we don't have that instant stop on knees.
00:27:42That's why we were able to get back so quickly.
00:27:45That's absolutely correct.
00:27:46They would never have an NFL player out there at three to four months.
00:27:49It's just the ACL wouldn't hold up.
00:27:51On average, they're seven to eight months before they even think about getting them back out there.
00:27:55A little bit different sport, a little bit different stresses on there.
00:27:58With the NFL running backs, they're running at a high speed and cutting.
00:28:01That's an extreme amount of force on that ACL and ACL graft.
00:28:04It's unlikely to hold up in that situation.
00:28:06Whereas with motocross, if all is going well, you're more in a straight line.
00:28:09And, yes, you're using the knee, but you're not putting those extreme forces on like you see with the NFL players.
00:28:14Now, the question I'm holding up today is going to be dealing with the heat.
00:28:17It is projected to go into the triple digits.
00:28:20So what's some advice you would give to an athlete for a race like this?
00:28:23Well, I'm coming from the other extreme of temperature.
00:28:25Climbing in ice?
00:28:26We're in about negative 30 temperatures.
00:28:30So coming out here, man, I'm struggling with the temperature.
00:28:33I can't imagine what the riders are doing.
00:28:34But, yes, there's a lot you can do.
00:28:36One is preparation.
00:28:37You know, the top pros, they're training in areas where they're dealing with heat and humidity.
00:28:40That's going to be your best bet.
00:28:42Once you're here at the races, trying to maintain that body temperature.
00:28:45Make sure you're keeping that body temperature down.
00:28:47So in between motos, you're going to see riders in ice baths.
00:28:49You're going to see ice towels, things like that.
00:28:51One of the things you have to worry about is dehydration.
00:28:54They're going to be sweating a lot.
00:28:55The heat's miserable, really, out there.
00:28:57So making sure that they're not losing too much body weight.
00:29:00Making sure they're keeping those electrolytes on them and keeping that body temperature cool.
00:29:03That's really the number one thing.
00:29:05You can get heat exhaustion.
00:29:06It's more likely with the fans than the riders, believe it or not.
00:29:09But, you know, you can start getting dizziness, imbalance, confusion even with heat exhaustion.
00:29:14And that is a risk out there.
00:29:15But, again, these are all top pros.
00:29:16They have great trainers.
00:29:17They have great teams.
00:29:19It's not going to be fun for a lot of them.
00:29:20But, hey, they're going to manage it.
00:29:21They're going to do well out there.
00:29:23Yeah, maybe the fans are not quite preparing the same way.
00:29:26James, did you do certain things the week leading to an extra hot race to try to prepare?
00:29:31Just more fluids or anything like that?
00:29:33Yeah, more pickle juice, really.
00:29:35Pickle juice?
00:29:35Yeah, no, we had some backwards.
00:29:38We were from the south.
00:29:39Okay.
00:29:39So, you know, you need some energy, some sugar water.
00:29:41You know, my dad's old school.
00:29:42But, yeah, you know, I did notice, like, if you showed up at the race and you're trying to hydrate, it's too late.
00:29:48You know, it's too late.
00:29:49And so I just always tried to make sure I paid attention to the signs, you know, dry lips, dry skin, you know, just trying to, as doctors say, just keep your body, you know, hydrated before you get here and just, you know, keep it topped off.
00:30:02So, you know, I was old school.
00:30:03I didn't have the ice baths.
00:30:05I didn't do any of that stuff.
00:30:06But, you know, technology is a lot different these days.
00:30:09Well, going even further back, Dr. Joe, I think the riders used to say, like, oh, don't turn the air conditioning on at the hotel to acclimate yourself.
00:30:17It's come a long way from that theory.
00:30:18Yeah.
00:30:19Yeah.
00:30:19I mean, as James said, I mean, if you're at that point, it's a little bit too late.
00:30:22Yeah.
00:30:23You know, if you're doing that at the hotel before the races, listen, it might mentally help you, but it's not going to help with the heat.
00:30:29There's a lot of preparation.
00:30:30Just like you can acclimatize the high altitude of mountains, you can acclimatize the heat.
00:30:34And making sure that the fluids are set, making sure the nutrients are set, your electrolytes, and then coolings is a big deal to make sure that you're prepared to go out there and race and race strong for the entire day today.
00:30:47It's going to be a long day.
00:30:48It's only getting hotter.
00:30:49We may see some of the guys fade, but listen, this is the elite of riders, so they have great trainers.
00:30:55They're really pushing the edge on heat preparation.
00:30:58Yeah.
00:30:58You were not.
00:30:59You were doing the exact opposite, like you said.
00:31:01We will ask you about the Everest trip next week, and we're going to get back in here when we're in Colorado.
00:31:06Thanks for stopping by, and we'll talk to you also on SMX Insider, our show that airs every Thursday on the Super Motocross YouTube.
00:31:13Thanks, Dr. Joe.
00:31:14Thanks, guys.
00:31:15Hoping to get some riders back on the track here in a moment after that red flag situation.
00:31:22Yeah, there we go.
00:31:23Watch myself and JT on SMX Insider, and Dr. Joe stops by every week as well, and our statistician, Clinton Fowler.
00:31:31So this situation here, James, these riders end up sitting out here a little longer than they probably expected.
00:31:37Again, this is not the hottest part of the day.
00:31:40We're just going to throw the program off just a little bit, send it back down to Jason Thomas.
00:31:45JT?
00:31:46Thanks, Mitch.
00:31:46I was just watching Hayden Deegan right before we unfortunately got the red flag, and he started jumping that section that I opened this RDL show on Jet Lawrence doing.
00:31:56Yeah.
00:31:56So it's just funny, you know, like whether it was his dad, Brian, filling him in or Hayden watching himself, the learning mechanisms for Hayden never stop.
00:32:04Because we all know he wants to go to that 450 class eventually.
00:32:07He wants to go battle the Eli Tomacs, Chase Sexton's, Jet Lawrence's.
00:32:11So I just love watching him learn from someone who's a little bit older than him, has taken that next step in trying to incorporate it into his game.
00:32:19So I think it just says a lot about the process that Hayden Deegan is in.
00:32:22Is that the same corner where he crashed here last year?
00:32:26It's exactly the same section, yes.
00:32:28Shrugging that off.
00:32:29Yeah, I mean, it is.
00:32:31And just as you listen to Hunter talk about, you know, find some comfort in a motorcycle, you got to be comfortable to build it, to make that change.
00:32:39And it also just shows you how much confidence that he has to be able to do that when he's already fast.
00:32:46You know, he's already fast.
00:32:47So always wants to get better because there's a different level.
00:32:50But, yeah, last year we saw in his feet flying, he was doing the getting ready for the Olympics.
00:32:55Now he's switching it up and really cool to see that.
00:32:58Did hop that a little bit.
00:33:01Yeah, it's going to change quite a bit.
00:33:02Maybe that bump, it gets bigger so they can start doubling.
00:33:05But it also is going to save energy if you're able to do it.
00:33:07JT.
00:33:07Yeah, it's funny.
00:33:09I'm watching Hayden there.
00:33:10So that was the first attempt out of the second attempt.
00:33:12He tried what Jett did, which is jump off of the tabletop part, like slow up, step off the tabletop, and then try to single off that bump.
00:33:19So it's the ins and outs of this.
00:33:21It's trial and error.
00:33:22And I think a part of that is being in the second session when you know the track's not faster.
00:33:26That allows you to try different lines and try to put sections together like that as well.
00:33:30I want to ask you this part about it, James.
00:33:33Do you actually need to slow down somewhat earlier to set up to do that?
00:33:37Maybe you'll gain time in the end.
00:33:39But there's a bit of patience to do that?
00:33:41Yeah, it is.
00:33:42Because it really just comes down to timing, not speed.
00:33:45It's a timing thing.
00:33:46So when you have the bumps like that, the key is to get your bike to compress.
00:33:50And if you go back to last year when Jett Lawrence came up short on the double downhill, his bike wasn't able to compress.
00:33:57He got into it with too much speed.
00:33:58The bike was up in the stroke, and he didn't get the pop.
00:34:01So what you got to do is slow down, get the bike to compress so you can bunny hop just like on the BMX bike or a skateboard.
00:34:08And the difference is what Hayden, he looks at Jett Lawrence.
00:34:13He's on a 250.
00:34:14When you crack that throttle in a 450, you have a lot more power burst.
00:34:17So he's going to have to attack a little bit different.
00:34:20But, yeah, as you mentioned, you have to slow down for sure to be able to do it.
00:34:23We have now heard that Trevor Collum, who is the rider that crashed, and that is what caused the red flag, has been taken off by the Alpine Stars medic.
00:34:32So he is in good hands.
00:34:33Not sure what the situation beyond that is for him.
00:34:37But always great to have the Alpine Stars mobile medic team with us.
00:34:41They even showed at the riders' meeting this morning.
00:34:43They have an all-new x-ray machine, an upgrade for inside that truck to get even better imaging, especially some of the smaller.
00:34:51Sometimes if there's a shoulder problem, it's really hard to get the x-ray to show it.
00:34:55So they've upgraded their service over there for that.
00:34:58So hopefully Trevor is going to be okay.
00:35:01And it would look to me like they're about to get the riders back on track for qualifying.
00:35:05Yeah, you know, a rider, when you go visit Doc and Alpine Star, you get the x-ray machine.
00:35:12You'll be like, it ain't broken?
00:35:13All right, cool.
00:35:13I'm going to the gate now.
00:35:15So they upgrade it so they can at least get these guys better news.
00:35:18Like, hey, there's no borderline out here.
00:35:21True.
00:35:21Yeah, because we have seen riders go in there and just tough it out anyway.
00:35:28So watch Tom Vial here, the now two-time 250 Supercross champion, cut up to him for a little review of how last week went.
00:35:38Yeah, I think it's always good to be on the podium.
00:35:41That's what everyone wants, I think, for the round one.
00:35:44Bike was good.
00:35:45I felt pretty good.
00:35:45Just missing a little bit of, I would say, the first few laps of each moto was kind of struggling to get in the rhythm.
00:35:52But both moto, the end of the moto was really good.
00:35:56The speed was good.
00:35:57So we're going to rock this weekend on being a little bit quicker at the beginning of the moto and then fight for the win.
00:36:03Last weekend, I said I was on the podium, so that's good.
00:36:06But I want that win really soon.
00:36:09So I'm going to try everything tomorrow to make it happen.
00:36:12Yeah, Vail getting on the podium, to me, even from my own perspective, I almost overlooked it because it's so typical for him to be there.
00:36:22He saw a lot of ups and a lot of downs, and then here he was just doing what he does, staying right in the middle of it.
00:36:28Yeah, and I think the reason we probably overlooked it is because of what Hayden was able to do.
00:36:32You know, Hayden was able to get around him.
00:36:34And, you know, I think with all these guys, they're going to have to go on the attack this year.
00:36:39You know, I think they're going to have to take the chance of possibly hitting the ground because I just don't think you're going to be able to just outrun Hayden just one speed-wise all the time.
00:36:49But I don't think you're just going to be able to – you've got to make him not ride like he did last weekend.
00:36:54And what I mean by that, you've got to make him take those chances in the beginning because Chance Hyman or Tom Vial is getting away in the beginning.
00:37:01So he's got to push it because if he rides like he did last weekend, he's just going to get the Yamaha warmed up, have his coffee.
00:37:09You have a bagel, and then he's going to decide to go around 15 minutes, and then we know how strong he is.
00:37:13So I think all these guys, it's important, as Tom just mentioned, to be quicker in the beginning part of the race, be comfortable instantly,
00:37:20so you can put the attack to Hayden, make him ride in his uncomfortable zone.
00:37:27See the clock there, about three minutes left in this session.
00:37:30And if anyone is going to send it in this qualifying session and go faster than the riders did in the first session,
00:37:36it's going to have to start right around now.
00:37:38Although, again, JT and JS here are saying it's probably not going to happen in this session.
00:37:44We'll find out.
00:37:45There's Mikkel Harrop, the Danish rider, jumping into American Racing this summer for Triumph.
00:37:51He's around the outside of the 107.
00:37:55And now we go with Max Voland, who was pretty strong in the first qualifying session, 7th.
00:38:01And he is a local product, NorCal born and raised, now lives in South Carolina as part of the Muckoff FXR Club MX Yamaha team at their facility.
00:38:11But he knows his way around Hangtown.
00:38:13Yeah, no, he knows it.
00:38:14I mean, like I mentioned last year, they had a big change in the track.
00:38:17And all this sand brought in here, he doesn't even really recognize this track.
00:38:22And where those guys went down, part of the reason they went down is because of that sand on that start.
00:38:28Now you're throwing sand on top of concrete, essentially.
00:38:31It's going to get slippery.
00:38:32So a lot of change on there.
00:38:33But it's good to see Max.
00:38:34I think he's gotten better, getting used to that bike, the handbrake, which is a pretty gnarly situation.
00:38:41But it should help him outdoors.
00:38:43It should be a little bit easier to rod for him.
00:38:44And I just love seeing this kid rod.
00:38:46He's one of the kids that, unfortunately, with injuries, hasn't been able to show his potential.
00:38:51But Max is one of the young stars coming up, just like Hayden Deegan.
00:38:54He's supposed to take it to the next level.
00:38:56So hopefully he can continue to get better.
00:38:58Yeah, I had a hip injury that led to some nerve damage and doesn't have all the feeling in his foot.
00:39:04So that's why he has the break with his hand instead of his leg, JT.
00:39:08Yeah, I'm still blown away at how well he has adapted to that.
00:39:12Because you think about the literally decade or more of muscle memory that he had developed with, you know, his rear foot.
00:39:18Now he's got to transition to all that.
00:39:19Now one thing I'd love to ask him sometime, and I guess that's part of my job, is if he's made that transition to like a mountain bike.
00:39:25Because you think about the front and rear brake, it's all with your hands.
00:39:28So maybe if you spend enough time on the mountain bike as well as practicing throughout the week, that would help speed up that process.
00:39:34And also there, it's been a moving target because they've changed that rear brake setup several times.
00:39:40They've been working on it, working on it, working on it.
00:39:42At one point we saw the beginning of Supercross, they even had an auto clutch in the bike.
00:39:47So we wouldn't have to do the clutch and brake together.
00:39:50They've gone back to a traditional clutch.
00:39:52And so they've been changing the parts.
00:39:55Now they've been pretty, yeah, there's not a brake lever on that right side you just saw.
00:39:59Now they've been consistent week to week, but it was several months before they were there.
00:40:03Yeah, and one of the places that they just showed Max in the middle part of his corner, he was going and he actually stood up the motorcycle.
00:40:09That's where actually the foot brake comes into handy because now he's not able to react so quickly and hit the foot brake.
00:40:16Now he has to move his hands and change, so I would say his biggest struggle is about right where Chance is in the middle part of the corner
00:40:22is when he gets thrown off, it's a little bit harder for him to recover compared to everybody else.
00:40:27But this guy's been looking good all day long.
00:40:30Last weekend, as JT mentioned, he was able to get that fastest qualifier.
00:40:34It's not going to happen this weekend because it is going to be a little bit slower this second practice.
00:40:38But overall, you know, Chance knows he has the speed, says he has to work on the motorcycle,
00:40:43and he's got to put that fight to the guy right in front of him right now.
00:40:46And then Chance didn't get all the testing time he wanted as it looks like a battle between he and Deegan right here,
00:40:51but this is just qualifying.
00:40:53Actually got food poisoning on Sunday, wasn't able to ride on Tuesday.
00:40:56A lot of the teams rented Fox Raceway to test.
00:40:59He wasn't able to participate.
00:41:01Said he rode a little bit on Wednesday, so he's not sure really if the bike changes are where he wants them to be.
00:41:08Probably finding out right now.
00:41:10Let the games begin.
00:41:11What happened there?
00:41:12Oh, wait a minute.
00:41:13We got a crash at Beaumare.
00:41:14Yeah, but Julian got a little wide and found out that there's a little drop-off on that side over there.
00:41:22Yeah.
00:41:22But, yeah.
00:41:23What happened with the one on the 10th?
00:41:25You know, he's on his slow lap, and he just happens to wonder.
00:41:29He said he's checking out different lines.
00:41:31He knows exactly what he's doing.
00:41:32Yeah, and that means Thomas slows down, too, so no chance of a fast lap time from him.
00:41:40Deegan, yeah, you summed it up.
00:41:42He knows exactly what he's doing.
00:41:43He never misses a chance to poke.
00:41:45No, no, I mean, I have no problem with it.
00:41:49I love it.
00:41:49I mean, it's, you know, you use all the tools in the toolbox, you know, whether it's your suspension tools, you know, different setup.
00:41:58Yeah, there he is.
00:41:59I mean, he knows.
00:41:59I mean, at that point, he already knew Chance was behind him, so he's going to just go to the inside.
00:42:04Probably won't even look back.
00:42:06Like, he's not even there.
00:42:08Chance going.
00:42:08He's just going to funnel back across the track again, so, yeah, as a rider, you know exactly what's going on, and no harm, no foul.
00:42:18Chance's got to get around him, so.
00:42:21See how it goes in the motos, because the clock has expired for 250A group qualifying, and as our experts predicted, the qualifying times from the first session have held up,
00:42:33and it will be Hayden Deegan on top.
00:42:35Over Hymas and Masterpool, Marchbanks and Cochran, and that's, again, all times from the first session.
00:42:46And now the recovery process begins because of the heat we're expecting.
00:42:49It's getting hot, but it's going to be much hotter by the time their first moto takes place 1 o'clock local time.
00:42:56Hey, shout out, Michael Moseman is actually second quickest in this session behind Deegan, Marchbanks third.
00:43:02But this is the overall times with Deegan over Hymas and Masterpool.
00:43:09So, Marchbanks fourth in the first session, third in the second session.
00:43:13He could be one to watch out here.
00:43:14He was pretty quick last weekend as well.
00:43:17Cochran Hamaker, Voland rounding out.
00:43:20We'll show you just outside the top 10 is Shimoda.
00:43:23Towers 14th, George Smith 15th, Drew Adams 20th, Martin 19th.
00:43:26And we'll send it down to Jason Thomas.
00:43:31Thanks, Jason.
00:43:31Well, Hayden Deegan, really strong start last weekend on the same form so far here today.
00:43:37It's going to be a hot one this afternoon.
00:43:39Does that change your approach at all, just thinking about what the temperatures are going to be like?
00:43:42Yeah, I mean, it'll be hot.
00:43:43Everyone's got to deal with it.
00:43:44And I'm pretty fit, so I ain't worried about it.
00:43:47I usually don't really care to pop out in qualifying like this,
00:43:50but I had to do this week after the rider last week shoot me off the podium.
00:43:53So, yeah, we had to send it today, P1 in qualifying, and two hot motors today.
00:43:58I'm stoked.
00:43:59Great job.
00:43:59Good luck.
00:44:01Never misses a chance.
00:44:02Never misses a chance.
00:44:04I mean, that's what makes that kid so dominant.
00:44:07As being on top, you've got to find some kind of reason to want to beat these guys even more.
00:44:12So, there you have it.
00:44:13The rider he's referencing is Hymus, who took that fast qualifying spot away from him last week.
00:44:19Yesterday, WMX in action.
00:44:21That's the Women's Motocross Championship for the second time this year.
00:44:24Give me the highlights.
00:44:26Stallings here on the 21, going to grab the whole shot on the Kawasaki.
00:44:29Not a great start for Lachlan Lala Turner, but the number one,
00:44:34she starts moving through traffic in a hurry on that Yamaha.
00:44:36Yeah, she was on a different level.
00:44:38She had some competition last weekend, but this weekend,
00:44:42she was able to move through the field.
00:44:44This is for the lead right here, and it was hot yesterday.
00:44:48As you can see, they put down all this sand, and Lachlan, number one.
00:44:52No problem.
00:44:53No.
00:44:54Had to get around Michaela Nielsen, who actually won the overall last weekend,
00:44:57go to Moto2, an even worse start for Turner.
00:45:00See her all the way on the left.
00:45:01That's like third from last, and then she just blows through the whole field.
00:45:04Yeah, this ain't laps deep.
00:45:08This is the first lap that she got through and made the pass,
00:45:10actually in the same part that she did the first moto, and she just took off.
00:45:14Yep.
00:45:14And then you've got Stallings and Nielsen battling it out,
00:45:19and also shout out to Charlie Cannon, the Australian women's champ,
00:45:22riding just now about a little over a week out of finger surgery.
00:45:26She would recover to get up on the podium,
00:45:27but this time it's a 1-1 for Lala Turner.
00:45:31There's a riding down at Club MX.
00:45:33There is Cannon on the right and Nielsen on the left.
00:45:37I think Cannon's going to get better and better as she recovers from that injury.
00:45:40That was some of the bench racing.
00:45:42Cannon and Turner battle for this title.
00:45:45Nielsen doing a good job staying up there in points.
00:45:47Stallings and Astadio round out the top five.
00:45:51Let's talk to Lachlan Turner.
00:45:52She is with Haley.
00:45:55That's right.
00:45:55Standing next to the champ, Lachlan Turner.
00:45:58Lachlan, last week you didn't really look like yourself,
00:46:00but yesterday is a different story.
00:46:02What changed?
00:46:03Yeah, I worked on suspension setup all this past week
00:46:06to get it locked in for this coming week,
00:46:09and I just feel really comfortable on the bike.
00:46:12And I love the confidence we're seeing back in you today.
00:46:16What message does this win send?
00:46:18Oh, yeah, I had to show that I deserve to be up front.
00:46:21Last week I wasn't riding like myself,
00:46:23and I had to show them that I'm supposed to be up front.
00:46:26Point proven.
00:46:27The champ, Lachlan Turner.
00:46:29And stay tuned later on in our broadcast,
00:46:31a feature interview on the family that goes racing together,
00:46:34Lala and her brother, Lux Turner.
00:46:37That's right, Haley, because Lux is out here in the 250 class.
00:46:40So three out of the first four moto wins for the champ.
00:46:42And, man, she seems to be enjoying that.
00:46:45450 class about to go on track.
00:46:47Let's show you the first qualifying session for them.
00:46:50And Eli Tomek, no surprise, he's fast.
00:46:52No, Eli is fast, and he comes at this racetrack with some good vibes for sure.
00:46:58And that track was a little difficult for him.
00:47:00It looks like he was maybe having some of the same issues he had last weekend.
00:47:04But Eli, just like the movement on his bike,
00:47:07and he was throwing in a lot of laps.
00:47:08So always a good sign to see that ET3 out there.
00:47:12Yeah, at Hangtown where he's had great history,
00:47:14and we'll talk about that throughout the afternoon.
00:47:18Also quick, Justin Cooper, a master of qualifying,
00:47:22second quickest in the first session.
00:47:24Yeah, very smooth out there.
00:47:26I mean, you can see the sole, and this track's going to change quite a bit.
00:47:29It's already drawn out a lot, and I think that's going to help Justin Cooper.
00:47:33He's going to be very smooth around the bike, easy on the throttle.
00:47:36And just like last weekend, he has some speed, especially that first moto.
00:47:39So let's see if he can carry that over as the day goes on.
00:47:44Second of the first moto last week.
00:47:45So he has been going quick in the races too.
00:47:47But again, no one quite as quick as Jet Lawrence.
00:47:50Yeah, and you've got to wonder, like, what's this Montek coming into this race?
00:47:54You know, what happened last year, the only place that he's ever lost on the 450 was here.
00:47:58And so, you know, most riders would be nervous about that.
00:48:01But I don't think this kid cares.
00:48:03I think he just chalks it up as it was a mistake.
00:48:06Mistake that I made on my own, and I'm about to correct that today, but giving these boys a business.
00:48:12He did in that first session.
00:48:14He was about six-tenths quicker than Justin Cooper.
00:48:18And Tomac, Tomac was right behind.
00:48:21Look how close it was between the two Yamahas there.
00:48:23He's down to the hundredth of a second.
00:48:25Aaron Plessinger, fourth, quickest.
00:48:27That's actually really good for Plessinger qualifying.
00:48:30And Malcolm Stewart, fifth.
00:48:31Yeah, looking good.
00:48:32Prado, Hampshire, Savace, Hunter Lawrence, Cooper Webb.
00:48:35That's top ten.
00:48:36JT, what's happening?
00:48:38I just listened to James talk about Jet there.
00:48:40Thinking about this question, you know, James was in this position where Jet is at the moment,
00:48:44or has been, where no one can really beat him but himself, right?
00:48:48If he just stays within his own limits, he almost, it's almost a foregone conclusion at times
00:48:53that he's going to walk away the victor.
00:48:54And I think Eli Tomac may have something to say about that today.
00:48:57But for James, when you're in that mindset, when you know that you're on the top of your game,
00:49:01how do you stay within your limits?
00:49:03How do you avoid taking that extra risk like he did at this very race a year ago
00:49:08and just stay locked in to where you can just win races?
00:49:11Yeah, it's a good question, JT.
00:49:13For me, I had small goals.
00:49:15And the goals was, as you mentioned, like I was coming to an 08.
00:49:19I was coming to these races knowing I was going to win.
00:49:21And the same thing happened in a 125.
00:49:22So I started having goals like, okay, I want a whole shot today.
00:49:26Or did you see Jet Lawrence?
00:49:28Like, I want to pick my way around the racetrack.
00:49:30I want to jump around.
00:49:31And I think if you start looking at the small goals, it keeps you locked in
00:49:35because you're always chasing something.
00:49:37I think for him, it's a little bit easier than I have
00:49:39because if he's not on this game, he's going to get beat.
00:49:42I mean, whether it's by his brother or the guy we're watching on the screen.
00:49:46Whereas me, it was really was like, all right, I know I have this.
00:49:50So I would say those small goals.
00:49:52And I think from what happened last year, he'll learn off that
00:49:56and try not to make that mistake again.
00:49:58You're saying Eli Tomac alone can help keep you on your toes?
00:50:01Yeah.
00:50:01If I was racing this number three, maybe I wouldn't be looking at those small goals.
00:50:06Yeah.
00:50:06I'd be worried about beating this guy.
00:50:07And the good news is this is not just now for Tomac.
00:50:12He has said he wants to come back and race next year.
00:50:14We asked him about that.
00:50:19Unfortunately, I've kind of not been a man of my word for saying I'm going to be done
00:50:24and then saying I want to race more.
00:50:27But I am I'm back to to wanting to continue my racing past 2025.
00:50:33And that's where I'm at.
00:50:34And so we're working on negotiations right now to keep going for the end of the future.
00:50:39And that has led to obviously the fans are pumped to have a legend not retiring,
00:50:45but also a lot of speculation of where will he ride?
00:50:48Because certainly Cooper Webb is a star over at Yamaha.
00:50:51He just won the Monster Energy Supercross title.
00:50:54They've got to keep Hayden Deegan in the fold as he transitions to the 450 class.
00:50:58So is there room or not for Tomac?
00:51:00They would love to have him, obviously, for the results.
00:51:03But that's a big budget to have three superstars.
00:51:05So now a lot of speculation of where will Tomac go?
00:51:08Yeah, that's that's crazy to me to have somebody second all time and Eli Tomac in Supercross wins
00:51:14and how dominant he's been outdoors to possibly we don't have room for you on this team
00:51:20because we got too many winners on there and possibly Hayden Deegan moving up.
00:51:25So it's going to be interesting to see what Eli, but the good thing is he's having fun
00:51:31and he wants to continue riding and, you know, why not the way he looks.
00:51:35But as we were talking JT's question about Jet Lawrence and how you stay focused, you know,
00:51:40we hear Jet say things about Eli, a lot of good things, positive.
00:51:45He recognizes that Daytona, Eli was one of his best tracks.
00:51:49So he went there extra focused.
00:51:51I think there's two reasons why Jet's going to be strong here.
00:51:53I think he's going to want to revenge what happened last year.
00:51:56And he knows that this is probably Eli, one of Eli's better tracks.
00:52:00I mean, we know that minute and a half victory.
00:52:02So he might be extra focused today because of what Eli was able to do over 10 years ago.
00:52:09And it's going to be hard to beat.
00:52:11So that guy's a student in the game.
00:52:12But Eli looks good as well.
00:52:14JT.
00:52:15It's funny.
00:52:16I love James's perspective there because those two things are converging here.
00:52:20Eli knows that he has to capitalize on the tracks that are conducive to success.
00:52:26He has to.
00:52:27And also, that flies in the face of Jet not being his best self here.
00:52:31His results would reflect this is not a great racetrack for Jet on relative terms.
00:52:35So, like James is saying, Jet wants to upend that.
00:52:38He wants to defy Tomac knowing he's got to step up.
00:52:41And for Eli, the opposite's true.
00:52:43I have to make the most of the opportunities when they are there.
00:52:46One of those is going to win out today.
00:52:48That's where the magic happens this afternoon.
00:52:51Absolutely.
00:52:52Let's hope it leads to a battle, JT.
00:52:54That perspective there.
00:52:56Tomac, what we're talking about is his pro debut way back in 2010.
00:53:01He won.
00:53:02Only rider to ever do that.
00:53:04And then five years later, 2015, maybe the most dominant moto ever in the history of the series.
00:53:10He won by about 90 seconds.
00:53:13And that really set a standard of, okay, he's really good at this track.
00:53:17And he won multiple times since then.
00:53:19Yeah, I remember being home watching that.
00:53:21And I thought the timing was broken.
00:53:23I was like, there's no way.
00:53:25I mean, they must have timing issues.
00:53:27But, you know, we're looking at Jorge Prada.
00:53:30It's a little bit.
00:53:30Had a better practice section.
00:53:32A little bit faster this weekend than last weekend.
00:53:35Obviously, it's going to be a hard ask for him going into, he hasn't really raced all year long.
00:53:41You know, he raced a couple of Supercrosses.
00:53:43But new bike, new team, new country, everything's different.
00:53:46So you got to expect some growing pains with him.
00:53:49But a little closer this weekend than last weekend.
00:53:52And we'll see how that bike happens.
00:53:54Is that bike even better, JT?
00:53:57Yeah.
00:53:57You know, Prado, James, I just think right now, okay, he has to learn the racetrack.
00:54:01That's one thing we can't ignore because he hasn't ever raced here before.
00:54:05But once you feel comfortable with that, I really think that energy conservation is the key for Jorge.
00:54:11He's never raced in conditions as hot.
00:54:13This is not going to be an easy afternoon for him.
00:54:16You couple that with he's coming off an injury.
00:54:18So he's not yet at 100%.
00:54:20So I would be very, very careful about wasting any energy that you don't have to.
00:54:25And, James, I remember when you were racing, on hard days, you would pull in halfway through practice.
00:54:30We wouldn't even see you sometimes in the second sessions.
00:54:33And it always felt like, nope, he's just going to save himself for the race where it counts.
00:54:36And I feel like that may be the best strategy for Jorge right this second.
00:54:40Yeah, I mean, for sure, if you're worried about the heat, it's definitely a good strategy to have.
00:54:44Save it because you've got to play the long game today.
00:54:46But for me, when I would be pulling in the pits, it was because it was showing a different attitude.
00:54:51Like, look, I don't even need to be out here because I already know I'm the best.
00:54:54You guys ain't going to be able to do it.
00:54:55So that's why I was pulling in.
00:54:57If I was pulling in because of the heat, I was in trouble already.
00:55:00So it's good to see that.
00:55:02All right, a little flex there.
00:55:04Hey, since Prado has returned to racing, just a shout out to you can listen to the races
00:55:08with the Spanish-language broadcast with Telemundo Deportes on YouTube and Facebook.
00:55:14And also, if you're outside the United States, tell your friends.
00:55:18It's the SMX Video Pass.
00:55:20And the Spanish-language broadcast is available there, too.
00:55:22Go to SuperMotocross.com.
00:55:25Sorry, SuperMotocross.tv.
00:55:27And that's how you can sign up for the international package.
00:55:32Watch Prado here.
00:55:33Really interesting.
00:55:34We had a long talk during the week that he – oh, JT, you got something on the 70.
00:55:37Go ahead.
00:55:38Yeah, I was just going to mention he did run that scoop tire in the first session.
00:55:42That's what I was going to talk about.
00:55:42That was a big talking point last weekend is he didn't run it.
00:55:45He has run that tire throughout the majority of his career.
00:55:48And I would almost say exclusively in his career.
00:55:50So that came as a shock that he would go away from it.
00:55:53It's going to be something that I'm going to be looking for off the top of the show
00:55:55in the first 450 motor to see if he goes back to it.
00:55:58Because there's no way you could convince me that his – I want to say mediocre.
00:56:02But if you're going on a relative basis with Prado, they were mediocre to average starts for him.
00:56:08I think if he goes back to that scoop tire, trust what he knows,
00:56:11we'll see him running around at the very front, and then we'll see what happens after that.
00:56:14Huge pileup at the top of this hill.
00:56:16Hope everybody's okay.
00:56:17Wow.
00:56:18JT, I'm glad you brought up that tire topic.
00:56:20That's where I was about to go.
00:56:21So I talked to Oscar Ritterman, the crew chief for Prado, about that.
00:56:26And it does look like everyone's getting back up on their motorcycles.
00:56:30Got Mitchell Harrison there in the 86.
00:56:33The crew chief there, Oscar, said,
00:56:35well, we're trying to get faster on the track, not off the start.
00:56:38So we went with the Nabi.
00:56:40They used a scoop in practice last week.
00:56:43Don't know if they're going to go back to the Nabi for the racing.
00:56:45They did say they'd use a scoop this morning again.
00:56:48But I kind of got the feeling that right now they're just working on getting more comfortable on the track
00:56:53and not really concerned with the start,
00:56:54which is odd because that has always been the strength of Prado.
00:57:01Okay, that all logically makes sense.
00:57:03But I would counter with this.
00:57:04If I was standing there with you and Oscar, I would counter with this.
00:57:07Jorge has always started from the front.
00:57:08That is his strength.
00:57:10That's what he knows how to do.
00:57:11It's been, I would say, 95% of his career is starting within the top three.
00:57:16Well, now you're going to say, okay, let's be better on the racetrack,
00:57:19but we may have to sacrifice.
00:57:20You may have to start 10th.
00:57:22That is not what he does well.
00:57:23So you're going to handcuff him with a bad starting position in hopes of being better on the racetrack.
00:57:29I just don't think that's a winning equation.
00:57:32If everyone else is running the scoop tire, my answer would be, hey,
00:57:35we need to figure out how to go fast on the racetrack with the scoop tire.
00:57:38Yeah, and JT, you're 100% right.
00:57:41But I think the difference is when Jorge was getting out starts, starts a mindset thing.
00:57:47It really does come out.
00:57:48Like, you can mentally make yourself get a good start.
00:57:51I think what Cowie's doing is that because he's not comfortable on the racetrack,
00:57:56they know by putting him up front, it's probably going to hurt his confidence even more
00:58:01because those guys are going to end up passing him because he's so uncomfortable on the racetrack.
00:58:04So I don't think they're actually wanting him to start up front until they get him his speed up
00:58:09and more comfortable on the racetrack.
00:58:11Because for Jorge, if you get a good start, a whole shot, and then you get passed by six guys,
00:58:16that ain't going to help him.
00:58:17But if he's able to get a 10-play start and he needs comfortable and he gets his speed
00:58:22and he just gets better, then I think he'll be fine.
00:58:24So I think that's where they're leaning toward.
00:58:26Did you have a bug over there when I had this combo?
00:58:28Because that's basically what they said.
00:58:30Oh, really?
00:58:30Not ready to whole shot yet.
00:58:32That's not the goal.
00:58:33That was incredible.
00:58:34That was basically like, as we watched Jett Lawrence head over the top box,
00:58:37we'll go full screen here.
00:58:38It was kind of the goal isn't 1-1s yet and whole shots not there yet.
00:58:44Hey, Weege, I whole shot it here in 2004.
00:58:47I can tell you what not ready to whole shot is.
00:58:51We want to have that conversation.
00:58:54We can.
00:58:54Okay.
00:58:55But, man, I understand that.
00:58:57That all does make logical sense.
00:58:59But I just, when you look at who Jorge Prado is as a racer,
00:59:03he's a guy that starts from the front.
00:59:04And you're just asking him to bat left-handed as a righty.
00:59:08Like, it's just not what he does.
00:59:10So protecting him, sure.
00:59:11But at some point, they're going to have to peel back the curtain and see what he's got.
00:59:15Well, that's what it's all.
00:59:16We can boil this whole conversation down to this.
00:59:18If we see him with the scoop tire at the gate for the moto,
00:59:20what did we just see from Jett Lawrence there?
00:59:24If we see Jorge Prado with the scoop,
00:59:26maybe that needs its time to get a whole shot and try to win.
00:59:29But what was that from Jett Lawrence?
00:59:31Well, that's what he was working on in that first practice.
00:59:34He was just able to get it.
00:59:35And that was pretty sketchy because he went down there.
00:59:38He's got to hit that bump a lot faster than he wanted to,
00:59:40and that bike reacted.
00:59:42But, again, that's what that guy does.
00:59:44I mean, that's what he's known for, popping in that deal.
00:59:48Well, that's the section JT talked about at the beginning of this show.
00:59:52But, man, did he grease it.
00:59:53Justin Cooper, second quickest overall, as we mentioned.
00:59:59And looking pretty fast right now.
01:00:01Yeah, I just like how smooth he is right there.
01:00:04And because he's so smooth around the racetrack,
01:00:06he doesn't necessarily have to do what Jett Lawrence does
01:00:09because he opens up the corners.
01:00:11And one thing what Justin does really well on the motorcycle
01:00:14is that he's very light on the bike.
01:00:16You know, like he doesn't bear to bike in.
01:00:18And that's why he was such a good starter.
01:00:20And also he rode the 250 so well is because he's really light.
01:00:23He doesn't really, you know, slam the bike in.
01:00:26Or, as you can see, when Eli Tomac, he's going super fast
01:00:29and he buries it in the corners,
01:00:30Justin Cooper really doesn't do that.
01:00:31So track here at Hangtown where it's going to be about momentum.
01:00:35That's why he's rolling around pretty good right now.
01:00:37I just want to update.
01:00:38I'm going to ask you about that.
01:00:39But first I want to say on track right now in this session
01:00:41is Lawrence, Tomac, Hampshire, Justin Cooper, Prado.
01:00:45Those are the five fastest in this session.
01:00:48The times you see on the left side, that's fastest overall.
01:00:51Yeah, I've always wondered that with Justin Cooper.
01:00:53You don't often see where he is fast.
01:00:57To me, it's that middle part of the turn.
01:00:59And that's why it's the not burying it.
01:01:01That's what does it.
01:01:02Yeah, no, exactly.
01:01:03That's a good observation because that is where he makes his time up.
01:01:06And it's because he doesn't, the bike's not moving around a lot.
01:01:09And because he's so light on the bike, he's keeping it all one motion,
01:01:13a lot smoother, and it's working for him too.
01:01:16The Frenchman here, Benoit Patrelle, fighting for top 10 last week.
01:01:21I believe that was his first pro national in America,
01:01:24racing for the Twisted T Suzuki team.
01:01:26And this is a crazy story how he made this happen.
01:01:29Here's his explanation.
01:01:34Yes, it came about middle of March.
01:01:38I talked with Dustin, and then he came back to me a few weeks later.
01:01:43Then I had a test middle of April, and then we had an agreement by hand,
01:01:50and then time to make the contract and stuff.
01:01:53I go back to France for a few weeks, and beginning of May, come back,
01:01:57ride a few times with the bike, make some testing,
01:02:00and then race last weekend.
01:02:03So really happy about how it went.
01:02:06And what makes that even funnier is that when he said he was over here in March,
01:02:11he didn't have a ride for MXGP.
01:02:13So he was told, some friends said, just go to California, ride the tracks,
01:02:17and let everybody see how fast you are, and things will probably come together.
01:02:21And that's exactly what happened.
01:02:22Yeah, that is exactly what happened.
01:02:24And you think about years ago, that's what brought Ryan Hughes back out of retirement.
01:02:30I mean, he retired, and he was going to Elsinore, laying wood to all those guys,
01:02:33and then he was like, man, I'm fast enough, and he ended up riding.
01:02:36So for sure, for all the kids out there, look, if you don't get drafted,
01:02:40go out there to the track, let them know what kind of speed you got.
01:02:44Haley.
01:02:44Why do you be paying attention, Haley?
01:02:45Yep.
01:02:46Yeah, Benoit in for all 11 rounds of the pro motocross leg of the Super Motocross World Championship Tour
01:02:52in hopes to qualify for playoffs this September.
01:02:54And I asked him, is Supercross in the cards?
01:02:56He says, I'm not sure yet.
01:02:58He says, I'd like to, but the focus right now is outdoors and playoffs.
01:03:01Oh, that would be cool.
01:03:03And a lot of those French riders do have a background in Supercross,
01:03:06so he might be able to adapt if he has a chance next season,
01:03:09at least for the hybrid tracks and SMX.
01:03:11Let's check in with RJ Hampshire, who, as I mentioned, third fastest on track right now, looking good.
01:03:16Yeah, the thinking man.
01:03:18Suddenly.
01:03:19Yeah, we're going to call him the thinking man because, you know, RJ looks good,
01:03:23and I'm sure he's happy because he's got a lot of power underneath that bike.
01:03:26He's got a teammate, Malcolm Stewart, my brother out there.
01:03:30And, again, he's riding with Aaron Plessinger and Malcolm during the week,
01:03:34so he knows what kind of speed it does, what's needed to be out here to compete.
01:03:38Here's RJ yesterday on this transition to the 450.
01:03:42Yeah, I mean, my goal last weekend, realistic goal, was top 10, and we did that.
01:03:48But, yeah, it's just crazy.
01:03:49It's a new kind of stage in my career where it's like, all right, you got to kind of build up again,
01:03:54keep the goals realistic every weekend, get stronger.
01:03:57So, you know, that second model, I had nothing left last weekend, so be a bit stronger this weekend.
01:04:03I did some testing this week on the bike, so I should feel a bit more comfortable.
01:04:08And, James, you're calling him the thinking man because that's what he told me yesterday.
01:04:11He has time to think about lines instead of having to hammer everything wide open everywhere on the 250.
01:04:17Yeah, definitely a different part of his career and new part.
01:04:20I'm sure it's fun for him.
01:04:21And when you look at RJ, you know, he's 30 years old, and it's hard to say he's a rookie.
01:04:26But, I mean, he is a rookie at this point.
01:04:28He's almost like a 50-year freshman in college.
01:04:31So good to see him out here.
01:04:32JT?
01:04:33He goes over the checkered flag there to end this session.
01:04:35But when you guys said that, I was like, he's the guy that everybody's asking, what is he thinking?
01:04:39So this is quite the heel turn for RJ Hampshire.
01:04:43But, honestly, he does look a lot smoother on the 450, so I give him credit for that.
01:04:47Well, he said he wants to eventually get to the point where he can start hopping those bumps like Jett Lawrence.
01:04:51But what Jett did hopping at the end of this session is several levels above the normal level of hopping.
01:04:58And he does end up fastest on track in this session and fastest overall.
01:05:06He's walking over to the podium.
01:05:09I guess he went back to the truck.
01:05:15This is not the fast line.
01:05:17So his bike is already back there.
01:05:20What a gentleman.
01:05:21I'll still do the interview.
01:05:22I'll come on down.
01:05:23He's going to run.
01:05:24What happened to conserving energy?
01:05:25Uh-huh.
01:05:26Flex move.
01:05:26Flex move.
01:05:27Put the bikes on the stand.
01:05:29Already in the pits getting washed off.
01:05:31I don't need to be out here.
01:05:31No problem.
01:05:32Hey, Deegan did the interview with the helmet on.
01:05:35These guys are showing just how tough they are, even in these conditions.
01:05:39Justin Cooper will be second overall in qualifying over Tomac, Plessinger, and Hampshire.
01:05:44Stuart Prado, Lawrence Savacci, Jason Anderson.
01:05:49That's top ten.
01:05:50So Jett Lawrence, the Monster Energy Fast Qualifier in the 450 division.
01:05:54Hayden Deegan, the Monster Energy Fast Qualifier in the 250s.
01:05:57Going to take a quick break here from Hangtown.
01:05:59And we'll be back with more Race Day Live.
01:06:02We'll be back with more Race Day Live.
01:06:02We'll be back with more Race Day Live.

01:10:59Кейден, congratulations.
01:11:02You told me that this is where you expect yourself to be,
01:11:05but how much of this win was earned in that first moto?
01:11:08I mean, yeah, that first moto was tough.
01:11:10I got a bit of a rough start, but I made quick passes
01:11:13and got a bit of a lead and just kind of managed the race,
01:11:16but it's hot out there, so it was a tough one.
01:11:19Great work managing it after such great starts.
01:11:22Congratulations, Caden Minear.
01:11:23We also have joining us the Coaches Cup winner for this round, Brock Tickle.
01:11:27So, Brock, this means your guys all collectively perform the best.
01:11:31How did you lead them to that success?
01:11:33You know, it's awesome.
01:11:34This SMX opportunity for these athletes is a perfect stepping stone into the pros,
01:11:39and for me to be here, it's nice to give my knowledge
01:11:42and give them my feedback,
01:11:44and along with all the other coaches and all the other teams helping us out do this,
01:11:48I think from my side, it's just a blessing for these kids
01:11:51to come here and get our feedback and learn.
01:11:53It's really cool to have you in this position, Brock Tickle.
01:11:56We have Caden Minear, winner for the SMX Next Moto Combine
01:12:00and winner of the Coaches Cup, Brock Tickle.

01:12:30Thanks, Chase.
01:12:35And we'll show you what the fans voted for in Rocky Mountain ATVMC.com Fantasy.
01:12:41They're picking Jet Lawrence for the win over Tomac and Hunter Lawrence,
01:12:44Plessinger and Cooper, fourth and fifth.
01:12:46That's basically what the results were last week,
01:12:49and that's what they were thinking there.
01:12:51And the wild card for this weekend is 15th place,
01:12:54and they're picking Freddy Noren for that.
01:12:57A little trivia there.
01:12:58If Freddy races today, which he's going to,
01:13:00he's not qualified, I believe he'll become the all-time leader
01:13:03and starts at this racetrack.
01:13:05I'm racing here since 2011.
01:13:07Now, speaking of Fox Raceway and the results from last weekend,
01:13:10there is a race taking place there this weekend.
01:13:12It's a qualifier for the Monster Energy Loretta Lynn's National Championship,
01:13:16and there are wildfires raging a bit down the ways from the track.
01:13:21I talked to some people who were there.
01:13:22They said it's definitely smoky.
01:13:24But, man, certainly thoughts to everyone in that Southern California area.
01:13:28We learned big time earlier this year the type of damage a wildfire can do,
01:13:32so hopefully they can get that contained.
01:13:34That's Fox Raceway this morning.
01:13:36And we're about two hours away from the first MotoGate drop this afternoon
01:13:42from the Hangtown Motocross Classic,
01:13:45brought to you by Michael's Reno Power Sports.
01:13:49Fastest qualifiers, Hayden Deegan and Jet Lawrence.
01:13:52That's perhaps not a surprise, but we have seen in 2025
01:13:54many examples that just when you think you know what's going to happen,
01:13:59it changes.
01:14:00Hey, Pop's having a good time there.
01:14:02They're qualifying.
01:14:03For James Stewart, Haley Sanley, and Jason Thomas, I'm Jason Wycan.
01:14:08Thanks for watching Race Day Live.
01:14:10We'll be back in two hours.
01:14:12For the Motos from Hangtown.
01:14:14We'll be back in two hours.
01:14:44We'll be back in two hours.
01:15:14We'll be back in two hours.
