00:00as we will now have a rematch between the Florida Panthers,
00:03our reigning champs, and the champs once again
00:05in the Western Conference,
00:06Connor McDavid, Leon Dreisaitl, Stuart Skinner even,
00:10and the Edmonton Oilers.
00:11Game number five last night, DRS,
00:13in Big D against the Dallas Stars,
00:16and Dallas was a slight home ice favorite
00:18to keep their season afloat
00:20and extend this series to a sixth game
00:22to send it back north of the border.
00:25Edmonton had other ideas from the very start.
00:28Three goals scored in the opening 10 minutes of regulation,
00:31and the Oilers never looked back.
00:33A goal and an assist out of Connor McDavid
00:36as well in game number five.
00:38The Oilers win it,
00:39and they win the Western Conference crown
00:41for a second straight season by a final score of 6-3.
00:45Yeah, six-pack by the Oilers.
00:46Those are the anticipated games, right?
00:48Even though we're looking at like five and a half as a total,
00:50like, ah, how's that game going to go?
00:51Always hard to keep Edmonton down,
00:53but also understand this.
00:54When a team is losing in the third period of a closeout game,
00:57they're going to pull that goalie a lot earlier
00:59than they anticipated to try to get back into that game.
01:01But credit to Oilers.
01:02The better team in the series, as you stated,
01:04losing game number one, oh, no, in heartbreaking fashion,
01:06and then you win four straight games
01:08to wind up back in the Stanley Cup Finals
01:10to take on the Florida Panthers,
01:11a team that you lost to in seven games last year.
01:15And it'll be interesting to see
01:16because the talking points are,
01:18is Edmonton good enough to win a cup?
01:19They're probably the best player on the planet on their team.
01:22It's just that can Canada actually win a Stanley Cup
01:25at this point with the best chance to finally break through.
01:28But as we talked about yesterday, too,
01:29Zach Hyman, one of the better players there
01:31for the Edmonton Oilers,
01:32out for the remainder of the playoffs.
01:34We'll see how that plays into it.
01:35Didn't hurt them in a game last night
01:36on the road against Dallas
01:37as they easily dispatched the Dallas Stars.
01:39And so many people came on this show, Ben,
01:42and talked to us throughout the year
01:43of how much they like the Dallas Stars
01:45to win the Stanley Cup.
01:46So this wasn't a surprise
01:47that Dallas was in the Western Conference Finals,
01:50but the surprise here at this point was
01:52the Oilers easily dispatched of them.
01:55That they certainly did.
01:56That 6-3 win for Edmonton last night
01:59in game number five.
02:01DRS, as we shared,
02:02the opening game of the series,
02:04the only victory for Dallas on home ice,
02:06they entered that third and final period
02:08trailing 3-1.
02:09They scored five straight goals in the third
02:11to win game number one
02:12by the final 6-3.
02:14And then Edmonton pulled off a sweep
02:16from that point.
02:18In the goal margin in those four consecutive wins
02:20for the Oilers, plus 14.
02:23They outscored the Stars 19-5
02:26in the four consecutive wins
02:28to win the Western Conference crown once again.
02:31The Dallas Stars have reached
02:32the Western Conference Finals
02:34three straight seasons.
02:36They have failed to reach the Cup Final
02:37in any of those three trips.
02:40And although last year, DRS,
02:42the Edmonton Oilers got ousted
02:44enforcing a wild seventh game
02:46against the Florida Panthers.
02:48There was still a thought.
02:49Is it finally McDavid's time in Edmonton?
02:52Because the Oilers entered this season
02:54as the favorites not to just win
02:56the Western Conference title,
02:58but also that Stanley Cup as well.
03:00And maybe, just maybe,
03:01return Lord Stanley's Cup
03:04to the Great White North.
03:05But entering the Western Conference postseason,
03:08a plus 480 price on Edmonton.
03:11That was the fourth best price
03:12in the conference.
03:13They have now reached the Cup Final once again
03:16where they will see the same foe
03:17as a season ago
03:18in the reigning champions
03:19in the Florida Panthers.
03:21Yeah, I mean, dating back to the 1980s,
03:23which was my heyday in hockey
03:24with the Philadelphia Flyers,
03:26like the Stanley Cup
03:26always went through Edmonton
03:28at that point.
03:28I mean, great players,
03:29the Yari Currys,
03:30the Wayne Gretzkys,
03:31the Mark Messiers,
03:32the Grant Fuehrers out there,
03:33Glenn Sather,
03:33the great head coach,
03:34the Northlands Coliseum up there
03:36where nobody could beat Edmonton there.
03:37And even my Philadelphia Flyers
03:39in 86-87
03:40lost game number seven.
03:41After, Ben,
03:42they scored an opening power play goal
03:44in the first period
03:45to go up 1-0,
03:45but still losing that game
03:47overall 3-1.
03:48I would love to,
03:49and again,
03:49oh, keep away from Canada.
03:50It is a fun talking point.
03:52Like, Canada's sport is hockey.
03:53They can never win the Stanley Cup,
03:55but it's not like
03:55only Canada players
03:56playing Canada
03:57and only the United States players
03:58playing the U.S.
03:59So it's a fun go-around
04:01when you talk about it.
04:01But I've always liked Edmonton.
04:03The brand of hockey
04:04is a lot of fun to watch,
04:06similar to when we saw
04:06like the Devils of the 1990s,
04:08the worst brand of hockey
04:09in the history of sport,
04:10the left-wing lock
04:11and all this nonsense
04:12where they actually had to make changes
04:14to the NHL to say,
04:15hey, the goal is not
04:161-0 every game
04:17and in complete war.
04:18Thank you, Edmonton,
04:19for bringing scoring back
04:20and making it cool again.
04:21We'd love to see them win.
04:23Over in four of the five games
04:24in this series
04:25or at least three of the five
04:27for Edmonton,
04:28who yesterday, Donnie,
04:29when we looked at the hypothetical matchup
04:31that seemed likely, right,
04:32the Oilers were up 3-1
04:33in the Western Conference Final,
04:35who would be the favorite?
04:36The Florida Panthers at minus 115,
04:39who is the actual favorite,
04:40not in the hypothetical,
04:42but the real Stanley Cup rematch
04:43that we have?
04:45The Edmonton Oilers,
04:46Donnie's Canadian
04:47and Western Conference team
04:48ever so slightly
04:49at minus 113.
