Heading to Download Festival 2025 and looking to off load some old vinyl for some merchandise or beer money? Perhaps take a look at some of the biggest sales on Discogs from some of this year's headline acts - including Green Day and Sleep Token.
Transcript
00:00Calling all Metal fans, I repeat. Calling all Metal fans, Download Festival is upon us, I repeat. Download Festival is upon us.
00:12With Download, well as of recording two weeks away, we're diving into the vinyl world once again to uncover some hidden gems from the back catalogs of this year's massive headliners Green Day, Sleep Token and Korn.
00:27And we thought we'd have a little look around the other stages, not just the headliners, but find out which other artists that are performing at this year's festival at Donington have items in their back catalog that you can't afford to throw out or sell for beer money or whatever pocket money you need to take with you at Download this year.
00:46First stop, Pop Punk Legends Green Day, and while their discography is huge, one of the most sought after finds is a 2001 7-inch pressing of waiting.
00:57Now, this isn't just any single, it's a limited edition pink marble edition personally signed and thumbprinted by the band members.
01:06And that kind of extreme rarity makes it a holy grail for collectors, with one copy famously fetching over £420 on discos.
01:17Not to be outdone though, the enigmatic UK group Sleep Token and their debut album Sundowning had a very special Record Store Day reissue in 2022.
01:28This limited edition, black and transparent 2LP, pressed at 45 RPM, is a must-have for their devoted fanbase.
01:37Its scarcity as a Record Store Day exclusive saw a copy sell for nearly £390 on discos, so it's a true gem for the vessel's followers.
01:47For new metal pioneers Korn, and those of us who still own a pair of baggy jeans, a wallet chain, and, well, maybe on occasion we did frost our tips on our hair.
01:58The most valuable gem might, or probably won't, surprise you, but it's not a fancy vinyl, but a self-released untitled demo cassette from 1993.
02:09Now this pre-album is a raw foundational piece of history, made even before they signed a record deal, and as a super limited, self-distributed format, finding one is incredibly rare.
02:23Finding a walkman to play it on, perhaps even rarer.
02:26But a top sale on discog saw a copy of this demo tape go for over £590, so who said cassette tapes were a dead format worth nothing.
02:38But away from the headliners and a personal favourite of mine, let's talk about Weezer.
02:44Now their cult classic second album Pinkerton at the time got a bit of a middling kind of review.
02:51But the 1996 album did receive a special deluxe edition dressing in 2010.
02:57The expanded 4 vinyl set pressed on premium 180g vinyl, meaning that if you don't have a slip mat, don't worry so much, included a ton of bonus material.
03:10And for fans of this beloved Raw album, including myself, this comprehensive edition is highly prized, with sales reaching up to £259.
03:22And finally, Metalcore Heavyweight's Bullet for my Valentine, another band I've got a soft spot for, so no doubt you'll hear me blogging about them when we're at download.
03:32Their groundbreaking 2005 debut, The Poison, can be a real treasure, so look out for the original UK limited edition vinyl pressing.
03:42It was released when vinyl production was lower, its explicit limited edition status makes this an influential debut, a prized item for collectors, with one selling for over £500.
03:57So if you've got it, hold on to it, or sell it, you know, I can't tell you what to do.
04:03But there you have it, five incredibly valuable releases from some of your favourite download festival acts.
04:09And while finding these might take some serious digging in record shops or online, knowing what to look for adds to a whole new level to your record-hunted adventures.
04:19Happy hunting, and I will see you at Download 2025.
