00:00so let us talk about asyad's commitment unity shared values reaffirmed during the 46th summit
00:16in kuala lumpur but an integral part of this cohesionness is to ensure that we remain true
00:25to our ideals a community that focuses on responsible and good governance at the core of this good governance
00:39and good governance is to be accountable okay we talk about inclusivity sustainability yes but if you look
00:52at the asean community vision 2045 the premise is of course responsible and good governance that
01:03represents the conscience of the majority of people who wants to read the country of excesses endemic
01:10corruption and waste that is why i strongly support asean audit institutions to implement
01:21this vision and more so because we have um this woman of steel to hate as auditor general
01:35extremely tough and unpopular it doesn't matter because she's not contesting in the elections
01:46oh at least for now i don't know about the future so now we extend beyond this about
01:56upholding the highest standards of transparency and accountability and through this strengthen
02:07anti-corruption anti-corruption frameworks again through the independence of auditors and regulators no auditors in the past
02:17including the big audit firms are not entirely free from being the target due to excesses you know that
02:28here in this country and of course you look at the more developed industrialized economies
02:38there has been complicity at times if you look at for example the story of the one mdb scandal
02:46complicity of the big audit firms
02:49so we are not it's not a matter of actoring by them or lecture we have it enough so we have to prepare
03:00to face
03:02the challenges in our country and in our region that is why to my mind it's a particularly important
03:14endeavor that audit institutions to be empowered to operate independently and to follow the trail of
03:27accountability wherever it leads now having said that i'm telling you as prime minister it's not easy
03:36particularly we have a tough dg like this but she's doing her job that is why i've told mentioned this to my
03:44cabinet colleagues even i i don't determine what should be the results of the priority they brief me of course
03:55recently last two weeks or so about the report but brief not for me to go and interfere and change report
04:03i said brief me just before i present the report to the cabinet to be presented to the parliament for an
04:10open public debate that is what we mean by good governance and transparency
04:19now and this ultimately will strengthen governments and integrity and will be reflected in sustained
04:27improvement again to the corruption profession corruption perception index
04:35so let me give you this encouragement you want to see the future of asean is this cohesiveness
04:43this is trust this is born that would want to showcase the region
04:51the most peaceful region in the in the world right now and the fastest growing economy in the world
05:01is 650 million people but to showcase not because of numbers not because of our economic strength
05:11that because we represent a region that's peaceful and that honors good principles of good governance
05:26and accountability
