00:00After weeks of de-escalation, the reprieve was only brief.
00:04U.S. President Donald Trump renewed his trade threats on Friday, recommending a 50% tariff
00:09on goods from the European Union starting the 1st of June.
00:12I'm not looking for a deal.
00:14We've set the deal at 50%.
00:16They haven't treated us properly, they haven't treated our country properly.
00:20They banded together to take advantage of us.
00:24Trump had announced a 20% tariff on EU goods last month, but suspended the measure to make
00:28way for negotiations.
00:30The U.S. President, however, maintained a 10% on imports from the bloc, along with 25%
00:35on the car, steel and aluminium industries.
00:38If the new duties come into effect, it would mean dramatically hiking the current U.S. baseline
00:43levy.
00:44France said the EU stands ready to retaliate to Washington, while the Polish trade minister
00:48downplayed the situation.
00:50So far, we have a clear signal at the political level that the U.S. and the European Union
00:57have decided to hold back on reciprocal tariffs.
01:03We have time until early July to conduct negotiations, and according to my best knowledge, these negotiations
01:10are moving forward.
01:12But the EU was not Trump's only target on Friday.
01:17The U.S. President also took aim at Apple, warning that the tech giant could pay 25% tariffs
01:22on any iPhones manufactured outside the United States.
01:26Comments that sent the global markets plummeting once again, with major stock indices in the
01:30U.S. and across Europe down more than 1%.
