I took the train from Tallinn to Paldiski to see what there is to do in the small town. Paldiski was a closed city during the Soviet occupation as it was the base for Soviet submarines and nearby islands were used for bombing practice. As a result, the city was almost 100% Russian because they were the only ones trusted to live in such a sensitive area. The Russian military left Paldiski in 1993 and the town remains overwhelmingly Russian-speaking and is home to a major freight and ferry port. And a lighthouse.

01:18Now on the edge of Paldieski. Despite this being a town of about 90% Russian speakers,
01:26as we're everywhere in Estonia, all signs must be in Estonian.
01:34Paldieski seems like a good location for some kind of horror movie. Lost in the woods,
02:02stranded in the cold, trapped in this treeport zone, clubbed to bits by the blades of the wind turbines.
02:14So on the walk to Pack Free Lighthouse, I found some abandoned buildings.

03:06Good news is I didn't die, but I couldn't make it down to the beach, so I'm having to go back to the road again.

03:17Another turning, look what I found. That's the sea. And one of the two islands, I think, that sits off this peninsula. I think it's called Big Bakri and Small Bakri.
03:39This area is wild. And cold. Almost at the lighthouse. Gotta look forward to the long walk back afterwards.
