I tried the 'No Waste' garlic bread from Booths

00:00Today I'm here with this frozen garlic bread which is from Booth. They've got a new scheme
00:08where they're hoping to cut down on food waste by turning baguettes or other bread that would
00:16otherwise have been thrown away at the end of the day into garlic bread. It's a copy of the scheme
00:21that Marks and Spencers launched five years ago and there's that some really well. So I've asked
00:27them to send me some which they have done I've picked up from my local shop and it would have
00:33cost £2.15 for these two baguettes now I've not opened it this is how it was given to me so that's
00:38that's how you buy it in the shop and it says it comes with some cooking instructions so
00:44you cook it at 170 for 20 to 25 minutes ensuring the butter is completely melted but you've got
00:53to remove it from the freezer for 30 minutes before cooking so this is something that you're not
00:58just going to whack in the oven at the last minute to go with your bolognese you've actually got to
01:04think about it because it's going to take the best part of an hour to sort this out so I'm just opening
01:11it because I haven't looked inside um the only thing that I would say before I get them out is if I
01:20was paying for this at £2.15 for two
01:26is it quite expensive look at that that's cute though isn't it um looks like a little hedgehog
01:32I've not seen that before but yeah so this this little half baguette um would have been chucked
01:41out so I'll leave it for half an hour we'll put it in the oven it'll all melt I'm a little bit worried
01:46that it's all gonna come out onto the baking tray but look we'll see um and we'll do a proper review
01:53so it's been half an hour I'm about to put it in the oven um one of the garlic butter circles discs
02:02whatever you want to call them uh fell out and it's gone kind of floppy so uh we're not off to the
02:08best start are we all right it's been in for 12 minutes it's meant to be in between 20 and 25 but
02:14I'm worried because look because of the curvature of the baguette it's falling onto its side like I
02:20thought all the butter's come out and look this has happened and if I leave that for 25 minutes
02:27at 170 which is what they've told me to do that is just going to be burnt to a cinder so like I said
02:34I've taken it out much earlier than uh than you meant to but I think that's done and I didn't want
02:40it to start burning it seems crispy enough now this isn't going to be that deep it's garlic bread at
02:46the end of the day um I was worried about all the butter um hanging out of it like a hedgehog and
02:52it all coming out onto the baking tray it has but in fairness quite a lot of it stayed on the inside
02:59as well so I'm going to try it and see it's very hot yeah okay um yeah it's garlic bread it's um
03:09like I said it's not deep um there's lots of butter the the parsley and the garlic butter there
03:16which is nice really nice lots of it um baguettes the baguette um the curvature of the baguette is
03:27a problem and I don't know whether that's the baguette that as it's been left out all day and
03:32hasn't sold because this is obviously a repurposed one has got moist and it's done that I don't know
03:38um that is a problem in cooking it the price point two pounds fifteen for two um so yeah one pound and
03:47a few pennies each that's expensive when compared to other garlic breads twin packs of garlic breads
03:55that you can pick up in other supermarkets I don't really know what to say about that I don't expect
04:02booths to be competing with the likes of Lidl and Aldi um but I do think that although it's really nice
04:12product it's fine um it is still quite a basic product and if you are doing this to save something
04:21going in the bin and extend its life span and do your bit for food waste then I think that this
04:29could have been put at a lower price point that is my criticism of it um everything else
04:36is perfectly lovely I've got another one in the freezer I'll be happy to eat it the taste is
04:42great there's plenty of butter could it have been shoved in a little bit better yes or could it have
04:46been hand on like the Marks and Spencer's one look like they put on by hand these are like the discs
04:52that I think I've seen in the butcher section um where you can put it with with some like joints of
04:58meat and cook it I think it's a similar thing to that I couldn't say for sure um but yeah if if
05:06if food waste and cracking down on that is your thing you like a bit of garlic bread why not
