A coronial inquest into the death of a toddler at a Perth hospital has concluded with the boy's father telling the court the family was betrayed. Sandipan Dhar died at Joondalup Health Campus in March last year and the coroner is examining whether a blood test, the parents say they requested two days before he died, could have saved his life.

00:00Sean Dupan Dhar was just 21 months old when he died from complications of undiagnosed acute
00:09leukaemia. His parents took him to Joondalup Health Campus Emergency Department two days
00:15earlier, with a referral from a GP to get blood tests, but they left without any.
00:21Over three days, the WA Coroner's Court heard testimony from medical staff.
00:26The most senior doctor who assessed Sean Dupan on the night he was brought to the ED
00:31told the court she did not read the referral and was not told by the junior doctor that the family
00:37had specifically come for blood tests. But Dr. Yi Xiao denied, telling the family they could leave.
00:44The inquest heard emotional testimony from Sean Dupan's father. Sanjoy Dhar told the court he
00:51could not accept his son left the ED two days before his death without staff concern, saying
00:58the hospital betrayed them and destroyed their life. But Mr. Dhar maintained he didn't want any
01:04criminal charges over the incident. Hopeful, the inquest will bring change.
01:09Our expectation is very precise. I do not want my son to just remain as a number.
01:18All of us at Joondalup Health Campus understand that this is an incredibly difficult time for
01:24the Dhar family, and we remain deeply saddened by their loss.
01:29It could be several months before any findings are handed down.
01:32Don't be careful.
