Zack Snyder: The Visionary Zack Snyder is recognized for his visually striking style and ambitious storytelling.[1] He gained initial recognition with films such as "300" (2006) and "Watchmen" (2009).[1] His most significant impact on the superhero genre came through his involvement with the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), where he directed "Man of Steel" (2013), "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016), and "Zack Snyder's Justice League" (2021), Other directorial credits include "Dawn of the Dead" (2004), "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Gaโ€™Hoole" (2010), "Sucker Punch" (2011), "Army of the Dead" (2021).

A standout quality of Snyder's work is his ability to create visually stunning films, with his cinematography and aesthetic choices often leaving a lasting impression.

Despite mixed critical reception, Snyder's work has cultivated a passionate fanbase, evident in the successful campaign for "Zack Snyder's Justice League" (#ReleaseTheSnyderCut).

Regarding comic book adaptations, one perspective suggests that Snyder's portrayal of Superman in "Man of Steel" was very true to the character, depicting him as righteous, hopeful, and optimistic from a young age.[2] This perspective argues that Snyder's Superman is sensitive and blames himself for events, showing uncertainty and fear, which contrasts with comparisons to characters like Homelander or Dr. Manhattan.[2] Similarly, this view states that Snyder's Batman, while depicted as a ruthless vigilante who has lost his way and does not value human life, is not presented as heroic, and the film affirms the danger if Batman falters in his moral code.[2] This perspective suggests that Snyder might deconstruct heroes but ultimately affirms their true selves, such as Superman as a beacon of hope and Batman's need for a strict moral code.[2]

James Gunn: The Maverick James Gunnโ€™s approach to filmmaking is characterized by humor, heart, and a unique blend of genres.[1] He rose to prominence with "Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014), which achieved box office success, grossing $770 million worldwide.[1] His quirky storytelling and ensemble casts have resonated with audiences, establishing him as a beloved figure in the industry.[1] Other directorial works include "Slither" (2006), "Super" (2010), "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (2017), "The Suicide Squad" (2021), and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" (2023).[3]

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (2017) grossed over $869 million.[1] While "The Suicide Squad" (2021) received critical acclaim, earning around $167 million against a $185 million budget, it did not perform as well as expected financially, and lost Warner Brothers an estimated $150 million dollars. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" (2023) grossed over $833 million.[3] Gunn's ability to balance character depth with action and humor has made his films stand out and appeal to a broader audience.[1] While his non-MCU films have all lost money for their respective studios.[1]

00:00welcome back everyone i am going to be excavating a little bit more of my one chunk skyscraper
00:14trying to get down to bedrock um but the main gist of this is i want to talk about the snyder
00:20and james gunn fan feud that's going on and uh and kind of play uh peacemaker if i can no pun
00:28intended um i'm not really able to use any footage from james gunn trailer warner brothers is notorious
00:36for striking uh copyright striking people's videos so you're just gonna have to listen to
00:43the sound of my voice and watch me dig a hole so um but yeah first of all i've loved you know and
00:52hated maybe hates a strong word i've loved and disliked uh work from both of these artists um
00:59many of you may not know that they worked together on dawn of the dead the uh the was 2007 remake or
01:072000 2005 i can't remember 2000 it's been a long time but yeah um james gunn wrote that
01:13and zack snyder directed it i think it was his first major directing job um but yeah so they
01:20worked together and they knocked it out of the park that's an amazing zombie movie uh it's it's
01:25one of my top three favorite it's up there with 28 days later later the original one 28 weeks later
01:31um you know but anyways i'm a huge zombie movie fan by the way if you couldn't tell uh but yeah then
01:39they got stuff that i don't like i don't like peacemaker i'm sorry i know a lot of people do that's
01:46wonderful you know a lot of people love that show um that's just it's just not for me it's just the
01:51the humor just doesn't hit for me um and i don't i don't really like it's like humorous zombie movies
01:58i'm not a fan of humorous zombie movies so i'm not a fan of humorous superhero movies i like my
02:04superheroes a little more serious and uh and both artists can do serious um you know guardians of the
02:10guardians of the galaxy 3 was very serious um but um you know as this might piss a lot of people
02:18off i don't really care frankly but i love love love love man of steel love that movie um that's
02:25probably my favorite dc movie and winter soldier is probably my favorite mcu movie um guardians of
02:32galaxy one and two are way up there uh i really loved both of those uh the third one i know
02:40i know a lot of people love it a lot of people even say it's the best one not so much for me um
02:45and that's not gun's fault uh he remember he got fired and rehired so he had to um he couldn't work
02:51with his original story because you know they already had uh endgame and everything took place so
02:57he had to kind of recraft it i just i don't feel like the whole gamora star lord relationship
03:03um ended on on a positive note that was kind of depressing uh the thing with rocket
03:10it was very depressing very dark and i get it you know it's a dark world sometimes but i just
03:16i want you know my superheroes to be hopeful and optimistic i don't know a lot of you are hitting
03:23the keyboard right now going but you liked man of steel look i get that you don't like that movie
03:29i love that movie to me it's very hopeful um i like heroes that struggle and overcome their struggle
03:36i think a lot of you forget that that's a very new superman uh his father for his entire life
03:44beat it into his head that you know if he if he showed anyone his powers even to save people that
03:50it could cost him his life or more importantly the people around him could be hurt you know everyone's
03:56like oh he's invincible yeah but the people he loves aren't invincible and they get threatened
04:00all the time in the comics so you know even though he's invincible or close to it you know you gotta
04:07gotta keep them in mind so anyways um so yes movies that i've i've liked of theirs and and haven't
04:16liked like i said i love the first two guardians movies i haven't really seen much of james gunn's
04:21work outside of that but um yeah you know you want something of zack snyder's i don't like rebel moon
04:29i tried to watch that i couldn't get through it and i was so psyched i thought the trailer looked amazing
04:35and then it dropped on netflix and i was like ah what the hell yeah it just did not did not uh gel with
04:42me at all and um it just looked cheap the acting looked wooden it felt very much like a netflix
04:50movie even though the trailer looked amazing so um you know some of his other stuff sucker punch was
04:57weak watchmen was amazing i don't care what you say a lot of people hate that movie fight me you
05:03know i say that is one of my favorite movies of all time so uh but that's the point of this video man
05:09we're different people we've all got different tastes and we've got to kind of respect each
05:14other's opinions it's okay i have no interest really in seeing this uh superman movie okay but
05:21don't hate me because of that i'm not going to hate you for going to go see it you know we just we
05:26got to dial back the uh the aggression and the hostility a little bit it's it's wild man it's really
05:32wild you know um but anyways so why didn't i like james gunn's trailer well
05:39it's it's not that i disliked it i just to me it felt underwhelming but let me tell you why i think
05:45that is because a lot of people think the opposite a lot of people i see people reacting to on youtube
05:49like oh my god superman's back this is the greatest trailer ever and i you know i'm like i'm scratching
05:54my head i'm like well why why is it just okay for me and you know they seem to love it and i think this
06:00is it you know when i saw the trailer the first time i actually saw it without sound because i was
06:06watching a movie with my daughter and i was trying to be sneaky and you know take a peek at
06:13the trailers that had just dropped and i was you know i didn't i didn't waste any time i played it
06:19in the background but i played it without sound so that it wouldn't interrupt what we were watching
06:23and i think that's the big difference because let's let's let's face it man when that john williams
06:31score kicks in the bum bum everybody on earth knows that tune it's iconic it's almost half a
06:39century old at this point uh you know so everybody knows that everybody loves that music that is the
06:46superman theme and no disrespect to han zimmer uh because his theme i mean that's an incredibly hard
06:53job to follow imagine being the guy that's got to come up with something uh as beautiful and iconic
06:58as as john williams superman theme um not an easy task at all but han zimmer knocked it out of the
07:04park i really do think a hundred years from now both of those scores will be loved and appreciated
07:11pretty much equally they're both going to you know i don't know maybe one maybe john williams
07:16will be preferred a hundred years from now i don't know but one thing's for certain they're both
07:21going to stand the test of time they're both beautiful pieces of music so um but yeah han zimmer can't
07:27compete with that his his score is only uh like 12 years old right yeah 12 years old so but look you
07:34know i get it you know superman it just it just at least for me as a superman fan like i love
07:45superman i grew up watching uh justice league unlimited i actually got this when i was very very young i
07:51actually got to see um was it the fourth one had to be the fourth one the terrible terrible
07:57a superman quest for peace yeah i actually got to see that in theaters as a small child
08:01and i remember my dad being so mad that it looked so cheap oh he was furious he was complaining that
08:07it looked just like uh star trek episodes from the 60s and 70s um it really did you could see a little
08:15box around superman he's flying towards the camera and it was just zooming in it was awful so
08:21um but yeah look i i get it y'all not everybody has the same reactions a lot of people loved uh
08:27superman returns love that movie and i walked out of the theater feeling like i'd been robbed
08:34to me that just wasn't superman you know i mean he literally just like lifts heavy things he
08:40he lifts a boat he stops an airplane like it's just strength feet after strength feet and there's not
08:46even really many of them and then there's that creepy scene where he's listening in on lois and
08:51her her new boyfriend um our fiancee or whatever and it's just to me it just did not feel like superman
08:59at all and some people love that movie and that's fine you know for some people that's that's probably
09:04their favorite superman movie but um but uh anyways uh yeah for me it's man of steel all the way
09:12love that movie i know a lot of people don't it's okay just don't hate me for for loving that movie
09:19um my only problem with it was i will admit that the uh cgi battle with zod was way too long you
09:27should have trimmed that down because i was getting a headache from the the visuals from the spinning
09:32perspective uh yeah it was just it was a little too much and uh and when it was over i was grateful
09:39i was like oh my god thank god that's over so uh but you know he was trying to deliver this epic
09:45you know showdown between two gods i i get it but you know that that thing gave me a cgi headache so
09:52even in my favorite superman movie there's a scene i don't like so just wanted to share that with you
09:58um but yeah it's y'all as far as like this war between the fans goes it's being overblown okay i'm not
10:08i'm really not seeing uh you know snyder bros attacking people they're defending their their
10:16movie they love man of steel like i do um i mean don't get me wrong i'm sure there are some like
10:21really toxic individuals out there i'm just saying i'm not seeing them i do see a lot more um i guess
10:28gun fans talking about uh snyder cultists and stuff like that that's really nasty y'all we we got to be
10:35better to each other that's just that's crazy um but you know yeah i i i at the same time i get it
10:42you feel like you know this is going to be the greatest superman movie of your life and you perceive
10:48you know the snyder fans even if they're just praising man of steel it feels like an attack
10:53because your movie is is is coming up you know the movie that you wanted is coming up
10:58and the snyder fans or at least dce dceu fans are talking about a movie from 12 years ago so it's
11:06like dude shut up that movie's you know gone that's that's an old movie you know this is this is about
11:11james gunn superman so i i get it i get it you know but um but you know and snyder fans like you know
11:19my advice to y'all is like don't be don't be hypocrites don't be hypocrites okay you know you didn't
11:25like people trashing man of steel for the past 12 years so it's not time for you to get revenge on
11:31james gunn fans okay i know there's the temptation to like oh now it's your turn now i'm gonna
11:37haunt it well don't don't do that don't be be the better person okay not all gun fans are trashing
11:44man of steel i've actually seen quite a few people say that they loved man of steel but they're still
11:50looking forward to uh james gunn superman so just respect each other y'all okay just respect each
11:57other um there's no need for it to get super ugly and something i'd like like everybody to consider
12:04is that you know superman is an ideal to aspire to you know it's it's the goodness of mankind
12:11and we should all we should honestly all be a little kinder a little nicer to each other
12:18um superman belongs to both no one and everyone so you just just keep that in mind
12:26you want to be like superman be nice to each other later
