00:00Yes, Gordon Sully is going to bring you up to date on the World Tag Team Title Tournament,
00:04plus the Rap Master P.N. News, plus the World TV Champion Stunning Steve Austin,
00:08plus number four contender Ron Simmons. And what's going on between Johnny B. Bend and
00:13Lady Blossom? You heard me right. We'll tell you more about it today on the Power Hour.
00:30The following contest, it is set for one fall. Introducing first, from Detroit, Michigan,
00:55he weighs 403 pounds, the Rap Master, P.N. News.
01:15Like a freight train going through your brain, but P.N. News, the posse goes insane.
01:24The posse's pumping. There ain't no doubt, P.N. News is the winner.
01:30Wipeout. Yo, baby, yo, baby, yo. Austin, yo, baby, yo, baby, yo.
01:43Ladies and gentlemen, his opponent, from Seattle, Washington, 244 pounds, John Peterson.
01:51And the introductions and rapping festivities have been completed. Hello again, everyone,
02:00and welcome this morning to TBS. Jim Ross, you've already heard from Pauly Dangerously. We thank
02:04you for being with us. John Peterson, somewhat outmanned here from the 403 pound Rap Master,
02:14P.N. News. P.N. News, a very agile man. For someone his size,
02:29moves around quite well for a 403 pounder.
02:33Now, let me ask you this. When MC Hammer does a contract, does he then go and beat people up
02:38like this? I don't think so, Paul. He's not a wrestler. I mean, shouldn't he treat his audience
02:43a little nicer? I mean, John Peterson was nice enough to stand there and listen to this guy's
02:48rap, and now P.N. News is beating him up. Well, he's not. He's a wrestler first and a rapper
02:53second. So he's paid to wrestle. He's not paid to rap. Well, he appears to be wrapping up John
03:00Peterson pretty quickly this morning. And the broadcast will be telling you about some of the
03:10action coming your way. Nice drop kick from the big guy. There's action coming in the Atlanta area
03:15to Gainesville, the Georgia Mountain Center, also to Anderson, South Carolina, and to the Omni.
03:20We'll talk more about those events in the hour. Plus, the World Tag Team Title Tournament begins
03:27tonight on WCW as P.N. News executes a vertical suplex. What's up? Nothing much. How about with
03:38you? Why does this guy interact with his audience so much? Why don't you ask him? Why don't you
03:46interview him? I'm not his manager. I did once, and he made me dance and rap and break. I couldn't
03:52understand him. He could have belly-to-belly suplexed you like he just did John Peterson. That would have
03:57certainly been unpleasant.
03:58Another slam by the big guy. And the fans here encouraging P.N. News to go to the top.
04:18And we hear music. And we hear a crash. The broken record, and P.N. News has won.
04:24Here is your winner, the rap master, P.N. News.
04:33Yo, he's P.N. News, and he lays down his rhyme. Now, why is he singing? I have a rap to do. Why
04:39is my mic, why is his microphone on? Because I'm living life, and I'm staying in charge.
04:47Yo, baby, yo, baby. We need to fire our audio guy. I say, yo, baby, yo, baby, yo.
05:06Welcome back, everyone, to TBS. This morning on the Power Hour, Jim Rawson, Paulie Dangerly back
05:10with you. Last week on WCW, the interesting thing came about. I was sitting at ringside
05:15with Johnny B. Badd and Theodore Arlong, while stunning Steve Austin, the television champion,
05:19was wrestling. Letty Blossom, in full bloom, as they say, was at ringside. And Johnny B. Badd
05:25seemingly became infatuated with her accessories, speaking of her earrings, her jewelry, and so
05:30forth. Well, you know there's something going on between the two of them, don't you? You really
05:34think that's the truth? Oh, yeah, they're like brother and sister. I mean, they've been going,
05:36skipping down the road, and they've been going shopping at the mall, and, oh, they bought each
05:41other some nice, some nice new bracelets and everything. I tell you what, though, I don't
05:45think stunning Steve's too happy about this. I don't think that he is, either. We're going to
05:48see stunning Steve Austin, the world television champion, in action in just a few moments. But
05:53first, let's go back to last week's WCW broadcast. Can we do that? Of course, we can do that. Let's
05:58do it. Fans, here's what happened last week on world championship wrestling, and then we'll go
06:04to the ring. You make sure you don't let her touch you now. Don't let her touch you, okay?
06:08Okay, baby. He's going to go look, talking about her earrings. Yeah, he wants to go see
06:12her earrings. We might have to get you an earring. Well, yeah, maybe. Johnny V. Band and Lady Boston
06:18have a nice conversation. And here you can also see Jim Ross and stunning Steve is not going to
06:25have any problem with this fella in the ring here today. The man is awesome, what a tough
06:29competitor, world television champion. Oh, stun gun. Stun gun right back in the ring. Austin got
06:34the 281 pounder up. He nailed him with a stun gun while on the outside Lady Blossom and Johnny
06:41V. Band are talking earrings. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of the match, the WCW world
06:49television champion, stunning Steve Austin. Stunning Steve, Lady Blossom not in the ring.
06:58I don't know if she even knows the match is over. Uh-oh. Well, stunning Steve.
07:11Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest, it is set for one fall.
07:16Well, it's quite obvious that stunning Steve has a problem with Lady Blossom
07:20conversing with Johnny V. Band over her accessories. I think he just admired her
07:27earrings anyway. The WCW world television champion, stunning Steve Austin. Stunning Steve is
07:37rather possessive of Lady Blossom's attention. 211 pounds, Tino McKenzie. Well, wouldn't you be?
07:46I mean, she's a gorgeous chick and not only that, but she's very, very intelligent and helps him
07:51in defending the world's television championship. Well, if they have a good relationship,
07:56then why doesn't he trust her? Oh, he trusts her. He just doesn't think Johnny V. Band is any right
08:01checking out her earrings. I mean, hey, he bought the earrings for her. Johnny V. Band wants some
08:06earrings like that. Let Teddy Long buy him some. I think stunning Steve is overreacting somewhat.
08:12Caught an elbow tie up and stunning Steve, the world television champion,
08:17currently in the top 10 in the world rankings.
08:19Fans, don't forget that tonight on world championship wrestling, the
08:30world tag team title tournament will begin. Last week was announced here on TV that the
08:35Steiners were stripped of the championship and the world tag team title tournament will begin
08:41tonight with a couple of very rough, tough teams. The Hardliners taking on the Freebirds. You'll
08:46see it right here on TV tonight on WCW. Stunning Steve, the wrist lock, the fireman carry takeover
08:56to the arm bar. Nice chain offensive maneuvers by stunning Steve. Nothing fancy from stunning
09:03Steve. Everything he does. Now watch this. Very strong, obviously catching McKenzie
09:14in midair like he was a small child. Even when he makes a mistake, he knows how to make up for it.
09:22He cuts it off. Damage control by the world's television champion. And now the beautiful
09:26back elbow stunning Steve takes his time. Nothing fancy, everything basic, but he does it very,
09:33very well. I'm sure that stunning Steve and Lady Blossom will be
09:37joining all of us for the bruise cruise a little bit later this year.
09:41And a slap right to the face of McKenzie. As McKenzie had his attention on Lady Blossom,
09:47stunning Steve took advantage. Fans might even have the opportunity to put a little shuffleboard
09:53with Lady Blossom on the bruise cruise. How about some volleyball? I'm sure that there'll be a lot
10:03of volleyball being played on the cruise. I'm looking forward to McKenzie and Lady Blossom
10:09the cruise. I'm looking forward to it myself. Several of the fans have already signed up to
10:13join us on that trip. Did you get your invitation? Long time ago. I guess mine was lost in the mail
10:20or something. I'm sure that it was. Right hand by stunning Steve. And again, a kick to the solar
10:26plexus as the world television champion has been very dominant here on the power hour here this
10:31morning. And like a shark that smells blood, now he picks up the pace. He's had a couple of
10:39opportunities to put McKenzie away. Someday this arrogance is going to come back and haunt him. If
10:45you've got your opponent in a position to beat him, then beat him because they don't get paid
10:48by the hour here. Diamond stud in the broadcast. One of the hottest competitors in WCW, Ron Simmons
11:01is here. We'll also see the hardliners and big Mr. Hughes will be in action as well. The new body
11:08guard of the WCW world's heavyweight champion, total package Lex Luger, plus Gordon's got all
11:14the news. Stun gun. Wow. Stunning Steve with a stun gun, perhaps now feeling a little compassion for
11:26McKenzie and will finally hook the leg and he has beaten him soundly.
11:32Here is your winner, the WCW world television champion, stunning Steve Austin.
11:45The following contest, it is that for one tremendous crowd on hand here for the power
11:57hour here this morning. Jim Ross and Pauly Dane will be back with you.
12:03Along with at 298 pounds, the diamond stud is being introduced.
12:11Tomorrow on the main event, he'll put his top 10 ranking on the line against a red hot Ron
12:16Simmons. One of our feature events tomorrow on the main event here on TBS.
12:23That's right. Diamond Dallas Page here with six foot seven, 298 pounds of chiseled stone and
12:31bad to the bone, the diamond stud. Now where's that girl? Where's that girl? Bring it on up here.
12:38Applied for the job earlier, not having a lot of success finding a stud in the country and around
12:43the world. There's not a lot of talented women in this country anymore around the world with this
12:48man right here. Your luck may be bad, but I'm sure some of us would disagree with that to be his
12:53personal. Why do they do this? And I get the hand somewhere else. I don't. This is not the place to
12:58interview ladies to peel the real deal. Got studded. Who would want to be a stud anyway?
13:04Don't call us. We'll call you. You were wonderful. You were marvelous, but see ya.
13:10Oh, what's it pay? I don't have any idea. I mean, because of the pay is good. Hey, I'd volunteer
13:17diamond stud six, seven, two 98 and Rick Ryder here on TBS. This is a very powerful man.
13:24As you will see in a few moments, he is a firmly entrenched in the WCW top 10,
13:30and we are really looking forward to his matchup right here on TV tomorrow on the main event
13:36against Ron Simmons. I mean, Simmons has really been on a tear as of late, but can even run
13:41Simmons matchup to the power of the six foot seven inch, 298 pound diamond stud should be
13:48an outstanding one-on-one contest. It's Rick Ryder trying to get the diamond stud over.
13:53This is obviously a physical mismatch to say the least. The matchmaker for this one didn't use a
14:01great deal of intelligence, putting a junior heavyweight like Rick Ryder against a man that's
14:06almost 300 pounds in the diamond stud. What's scary about this guy is that he backs up each
14:17and every word that comes out of the mouth of diamond Dallas page, and page has a lot to say
14:22lately. Diamond stud has been racking up victory after victory during the great American bash tour.
14:29And for our fans in the Atlanta area, there'll be a action on Monday, August 10th in Gainesville,
14:35the Georgia mountain center, the great American bash and Gainesville. And then Tuesday, August 13th
14:42And then Tuesday, August 13th in Anderson, South Carolina at the civic center.
14:47And from what I understand that diamond stud has a big, big match in Anderson.
14:53Diamond stud coming off the middle rope on a helpless Rick Ryder here.
15:00Fans, I do want to remind you that tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets
15:05in the Atlanta area throughout the Southeast for the final great American bash bash event
15:12of this year. That will be in Atlanta's Omni at eight o'clock on Sunday, August 25th,
15:18about a month away. The new United States heavyweight champion will be crowned on that occasion.
15:28Ron Simmons and Lex Luger battle for the world heavyweight championship.
15:32Big Argentina versus hair match with Elegante and one man gang as a belly to back suplex,
15:38certainly another impressive maneuver by the diamond stud. And that's in Atlanta's Omni
15:43Sunday, August 25th with an 8 p.m. starting time. Remember that 8 p.m. starting time for this,
15:49perhaps the biggest card of the year in the Omni. And Rick Ryder is about to have the worst
15:55experience of his career, the diamond death drop.
16:05Six, seven to ninety eight. Extremely powerful. How well will he match up on TV here tomorrow in
16:13the main event with Ron Simmons? Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of the match,
16:18the diamond. We'll see Ron Simmons in just a few moments
16:23after we go to the top ten. But first, let's take another look at the devastation.
16:29Six, seven, two hundred ninety eight. The diamond stud tomorrow night. Six oh five eastern time,
16:34five oh five central right here on TV as he matches up with the powerhouse from FSU,
16:40all American Ron Simmons. We'll see number 50 in action right after this week's top ten.
16:49This is the current world championship wrestling top ten as compiled by promoters and members of
16:53the WCW Board of Directors. The number ten spot, the former world television champion,
16:59Beautiful Bobby. Preceding him, the number nine man from Macon, Johnny D. Band. The number eight
17:04man, the big man from Hallstatt Street in Chicago, One Man Gang. The number seven man this week,
17:10the diamond stud. Number six, the world television champion, stunning Steve Austin
17:15from Hollywood, California. The number five man, seven foot seven inch, El Gigante.
17:21Preceded by the number four man, former All-American Ron Simmons. The three man sting,
17:26the former world champion, is preceded by number two, the Russian nightmare, Nikita Kolon,
17:32and the number one contender from Sweetwater, Texas, in a two hundred and seventy five pounds
17:38Barry Windham. And the WCW world champion, the total package, Lex Luger from Chicago.
17:44That's a look at the WCW top ten for this week. Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest,
17:51it is set for one fall. Introducing first, from Warner Robins, Georgia,
17:56he weighs two hundred and seventy five pounds, the All-American Ron Simmons.
18:08Tremendous ovation of the outstanding crowd here on the power hour this morning for that intense
18:13competitor. Weighing two hundred fifty one pounds, Bob Cook. Ron Simmons, who had his jersey,
18:22number fifty, retired by the Florida State Seminoles, currently ranked number four in the
18:26world. And Bob Cook, a veteran from Florida, trying to gain an early advantage on Ron Simmons.
18:32Well of course he retired his jersey, he never washed it. He was a four time All-American.
18:38Eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting in Atlanta's Omni on August twenty-fifth.
18:43He has the opportunity to reach a, as far as his wrestling career is concerned, a lifelong goal.
18:49And that is to be the heavyweight champion of the world. And on the wrestling hotline, I'll be
18:55talking about that situation. Why has it taken Ron Simmons so long to get his championship
19:00opportunity? Here we go again. Why do you do this every week? Championship committee has,
19:06they belong in a rest home somewhere. They belong in the shady rest, rocking. They need to move
19:12into the nineties with these championship committee assignments. Why do you push your
19:15luck every week on the hotline? Because I can. Oh you're saying that that's why they took my
19:21hotline away? Because I didn't have enough leverage to say what I wanted to say? Pretty
19:24much that's it. And I didn't, I don't use profanity. Oh come on, it was two four-letter
19:29words. And I didn't, I don't slander people either. Hey, wait a minute, I'm going to ask you
19:35this. How come Dice Clay can tell that same joke on HBO? And that goes on here. I tell it on the
19:39hotline. They bleep me and throw me off the 900 number. Because we have a family product here.
19:45Dice Clay is not a family entertainer. He's a part-time adult entertainer. Well, that's the
19:50opinion in 49 states. But in New York, he's a legend just like me. Bob Cook hammering away at
19:56Ron Simmons. Simmons to the Irish whip and he quickly moves out of the way. Simmons with an
20:00arm drag takeover. What power. And I guess we'll hear from his highness, Lord Pompousness, the
20:07world's champion Lex Luger tonight on WCW. If he will give us some of his valuable time to talk to
20:13his subjects tonight, we'll hear from the WCW heavyweight champion. Now I heard you talk about
20:18this on the hotline last week. Let me ask you this. If you say I slander people, why are you
20:23calling him his Lord Pompousness and everything? Because Luger is a very pompous individual. He's
20:28very conceited. He hates to sign autographs. Matter of fact, he doesn't do it any longer.
20:34Ron Simmons, I think, represents a broader cross-section of the country. A more working
20:40man's type of athlete because he comes from very humble surroundings. He's worked very hard to rise
20:46up the ladder. And I think that on August 25th, he's going to give Lex Luger the match of his life.
20:52I know Simmons is training for it with so much intentness that we could very easily see a new
21:00WCW world's heavyweight champion and it'll be in the Omni on August 25th. But there's one obstacle
21:05in his way and tomorrow night at 6.05 Eastern Time, 5.05 Central, that obstacle comes in the form
21:12of the six foot seven inch diamond stud. I wouldn't be surprised to see Harley Race and Mr. Hughes
21:17and perhaps even his pompousness himself. But Lex Luger at ringside tomorrow night,
21:22just to keep an eye on Ron Simmons. I know they're concerned about his athletic ability
21:27and they know that he's never been ranked higher than he is right now. Oh, he's number four this
21:33week and he's climbing with the bullet. I mean, Ron Simmons heading all the way to the top of the
21:37WCW top ten and he has the opportunity of a lifetime on Sunday night, August 25th against
21:43the total package Lex Luger. But like I said before he gets there, he has to contend with
21:48the diamond stud tomorrow night and he better not be looking past the diamond stud because the stud
21:53is also really on a roll. Two young athletes with a lot to gain by defeating the other. That'll be
22:01tomorrow night on the main event as Ron Simmons back up to a vertical base, but Bob Cook breaks
22:04the eyes, comes with a stunning right hand and another right hand. Simmons reverses the Irish
22:10whip to the center of the ropes and there is a power slam that has snuffed out any offensive
22:14momentum that Cook attempted to build. Simmons up on that second turn buckle. Tremendous drive from
22:21that shoulder block and Simmons has won it very, very convincingly. We'll be broadcasting next
22:33Saturday night from Simmons hometown, adopted hometown of Tallahassee. Off the middle rope
22:39with a shoulder block, this is why the man with a four-time All-American absolutely mowing over
22:45Bob Cook. It's a one, two, three for the number four contender in the world today,
22:49Ron Simmons. And don't forget WCW magazines on the stands on August the 6th.
22:59He is simply a fascinating athlete. Thank you. You know they retired his jersey and at Florida
23:05State, you're not an athlete, I'm sorry. That's been proven during the Great American Bash.
23:08Let's not get into that. I don't see you hitting any home runs either. Let's talk about the number
23:13four ranked athlete in WCW, Ron Simmons. August 25th in the Omni right here at Atlanta. He goes
23:20for the world's heavyweight title. Simmons versus Luger. Size, neither one has the advantage.
23:24Strength, neither one has the advantage. Speed, neither one has the advantage. Background,
23:29neither one has the advantage. If there ever was an even matchup, the total package likes Luger.
23:34Ron Simmons, you take all their accomplishments, you stack it up to equal each other, except for
23:39one thing. Luger has the heavyweight championship of the world, but Simmons is coming for it in the
23:43Omni. And Luger also has a very impressive entourage. I really feel like in the Omni on
23:48August 25th, if it remains one-on-one, I hope it will. I really believe we could see a new world's
23:53heavyweight champion. Oh, this is going to be a real battle. It's going to be a great one. Fans, we'll talk more about it with Gordon Soley next.
24:04Welcome to WNN News. I'm Gordon Soley, and our conversation this week is about
24:21the World Tag Team Championship formerly held by Rick and Scott Steiner. The hardliners have been
24:27the compelling force in this entire situation. In a moment, we're going to see two incidents
24:33where the hardliners caused the Steiners a lot of grief. Well, a tournament has now been named
24:39by the WCW Board of Directors to find new World Tag Team Champions. And I might just point out
24:46that the hardliners had insisted that the titles be vacated after Scott Steiner was injured and
24:52could not compete or defend the title in the required 30-day time limit. So we're going to
24:58go back in time right now and take a look at two incidences where the hardliners, in their
25:03determination and in their quest for the World Tag Team Championship, perpetrated all of the harm
25:08they could on the sensational Steiner brothers. Let's go back in time. Nick Breaker by Slater.
25:16The hardliners hitting the ring. They're hitting anything that moves, but we know why they're here.
25:23They're here to take apart the Steiners. There has been talk that they wanted the World Tag
25:31Team Championship. They're trying to, oh man, they're trying to break Rick Steiner's arm.
25:37Stomping away. A vicious, unprovoked attack by Murdoch and Slater, the hardliners.
25:45We don't know exactly. They've kept it a well-guarded secret, the extent of the injury
25:52of Rick Steiner. He could very easily be wrestling right now with a cracked arm. His brother hurt
25:59more seriously than that. We may have some information on his injury on the main event
26:04tomorrow night, if we are able to obtain it.
26:13What a move, what a Steiner line. Slater now in trouble, but here comes Murdoch with a chair.
26:20Whoa. Oh, he got him on the back. Murdoch working on that left arm. The hardliners,
26:28oh my gosh, they'll be disqualified. And Scottie's not here to save Rick Steiner.
26:33They're going to break that arm for good. Dealing with tag team titles once again,
26:37we're going to go back to the Super Brawl, where the fabulous Freebirds defeated the Young Pistols
26:43to win the U.S. Tag Team Championship. Now the Freebirds have their eye on the World Tag Team
26:49Championship as well. And I can assure you that they're going to do everything they can
26:54to gain that title just as quickly as possible. Right now, let's go back to the Super Brawl.
26:59Watch the Freebirds in action against the Young Pistols and the result.
27:04Scoop slams, and now all four men are in the ring in this battle for the United States
27:11Tag Team Championship. And right now, the Freebirds are in a great deal of trouble.
27:17And the Young Pistols need to start thinking about going for the win right here.
27:22Oh, they both took a chance. High risk maneuver, high risk. We knew it coming in.
27:28That was a high risk maneuver. Before we get further into the World Tag Team Championship,
27:34one sad note, if I may, the recent passing of Duke Kiyomoka. He died in Las Vegas. He was 70
27:40years old. Duke was a great longtime competitor throughout the entire world and will be missed
27:45by wrestling fans and friends the world over. Now, let's take another look at this Wrestling
27:50Tag Team Championship for the world title. I certainly have to say that Mr. Jim Hurd and
27:56the WCW Board of Directors acted fully in accordance with the bylaws of world championship
28:02wrestling and regretfully having to take the title away from the Steiner brothers. But frankly,
28:07they are just not able to defend those titles once every 30 days at this point in time.
28:13Scott Steiner is still on the injured list and may be out for several months,
28:17and there is too much importance attached to the World Tag Team Championship. Now,
28:21the tournament will begin tonight. It'll be the Hardliners against the Freebirds
28:25on World Championship Wrestling with Jim Ross. Be sure to tune in.
28:41The following tag team event, it is set for one fall. Introducing first,
28:47from the Hardliners Collection Agency, 30 Dick Slater, Dick Murdoch, the Hardliners.
28:56Their opponents, total combined weight, 485 pounds. First from Tampa, Florida,
29:01Sonny Trout. And from Honolulu, Hawaii, Chris Sullivan.
29:08Well, fans, as we have been telling you, tonight on WCW, two big hours here on TBS,
29:14the World Tag Team Title Tournament will begin tonight, and it will be the Hardliners taking on
29:20the United States Tag Team Champions, the fabulous Freebirds, in the first bout of that tournament.
29:28Also tonight, we'll have the final qualifying match for the United States Heavyweight
29:34Tournament that will be held at a one-night affair in the Omni on August 25th.
29:40But the Hardliners beat the Freebirds tonight here on TV, as Slater drops the elbow
29:48on Sonny Trout. You want to make a prediction on the match right now?
29:53On the match tonight, or this match? Oh yeah, this match. I think Sonny Trout and
29:57Chris Sullivan stand a lot of chance. How about the Freebirds tonight against the Hardliners?
30:02No, I don't think I would want to go out on a limb right now on that one.
30:06I think the Freebirds are in big trouble. I mean, I understand that they're the U.S. Tag Team
30:12Champions, and with Badstreet, they're the six-man Tag Team Champions, but the Hardliners,
30:17the only men on the face of the planet that have ever injured either one, if not both of the
30:22Steiner brothers, they're on such a tear right now, not even the Freebirds can stop them. Well,
30:27I have a little problem with that tournament anyway, the way it's set up. As a matter of fact,
30:31I'm going to mention that on the hotline today. Oh, man. Boy, you really want Tony
30:35Schiavone to take over the show with me, don't you? No, not necessarily. I mean,
30:41I heard the screaming coming out of Jim Hurd's office again this week. You're getting to me
30:45just like dangerously. You're a pain in my butt. I don't think he said that. I'm not getting like
30:50dangerously in any shape, form, or form. That's what my Uncle Moysha the Peeping Tom told me,
30:53he said, and my Uncle Moysha is never wrong. Murdoch with that wrist lock and taking the elbow
30:59against the grain, putting the pressure on the wrist as well. These two guys are not just a
31:04couple of pretty faces, quite obviously. Been a lot of controversy on the way athletes train and
31:12using illegal and unethical substances for their training. I'll tell you, these two guys
31:17could pass any test known to man. Murdoch, I think he trains on choice hops and barley.
31:24These guys are tough. They are tough in the ring, they are tough out of the ring,
31:28and this is a very, very important matchup here tonight on TBS when they meet the Freebirds.
31:34It's a single elimination tournament. We'll know more about the rules tonight,
31:40but we understand that this is a sudden death type environment. If you don't win,
31:46basically, you're out. You're out of there. You have to win to advance, whether it be by pin,
31:51submission, count out, disqualification, forfeit. You have to win to advance. If it's a draw,
31:57you're out. If you lose, you're out. If you're disqualified, you're out. If you count it out,
32:00you're out. If they stop the match, you're out. You have to win to advance, and Murdoch and Slater
32:07want to become the next world tag team champions. They hurt the Steiner brothers. The titles have
32:12been held up, and now, tonight, their chance to get past the fabulous Freebirds and on to
32:16round number two. Straight right hand by Murdoch. He and Slater, very methodical
32:22in their method here. This morning on TBS, there's the tag.
32:28These two guys don't go through a lot of wasted motion. It's obvious they don't spend a lot of
32:33time shopping for fancy ring attire. They are very yeoman-like in their efforts.
32:43And as we mentioned, and especially the matches that I've seen them participate in,
32:48they've beaten everybody the last few weeks via submission here on television.
32:58Murdoch with that patented elbow right across the collarbone.
33:05Scott Steiner today, sitting at home, watching this match, thinking to himself,
33:10these are the men that put me out of action. These are the men that show the world that the
33:14Steiner brothers are human beings, that they're not impervious to pain, that they can be injured.
33:20Slater and Murdoch tonight have a chance to take what used to belong to Rick and Scott Steiner,
33:25to advance from the first round into the second in the tournament for the world tag team championship.
33:33Double elbows by Murdoch and Slater, and these two veteran campaigners have been very dominant here.
33:41If you're into bodybuilding and like bodies that look pretty, this is not the team for you,
33:46but if you want to see somebody that can fight and that can wrestle, and that are, I mean,
33:52bona fide tough individuals, Murdoch and Slater are the guys. They have certainly become one of
33:59the most hated duos in WCW since jeopardizing the career of Scott Steiner.
34:11They've made a lot of very timely tags here.
34:19Tremendous teamwork, and now Slater, bending the arm backwards.
34:27Sullivan has given it up. The winners of the match, Dirty Dick Slater, Dick Murdoch,
34:32the Hardliners. It'll be a real war tonight here on TV when the Hardliners meet the Freebirds
34:38in the first round of the vacated WCW world tag team title. Murdoch having problems with our
34:46cameraman. They don't like anybody except each other, and they might not even like each other,
34:50but for pure business reasons, they stick together. Murdoch driving his elbow into the
34:55neck of Chris Sullivan. A punch from both of the Hardliners, and then Chris Sullivan
34:59very wisely giving up. I mean, if Scott Steiner can be injured, so can anybody.
35:09Fans, tonight's a big night for the Hardliners here on TBS because they will be involved in the
35:13first round of the world tag team championship tournament to determine new world tag team
35:18champions. Now the Steiners are no longer the champions, and the Hardliners tonight, a very
35:22interesting situation. We'll be taking on, as we mentioned, the fabulous Freebirds. How do you see
35:27that matchup? Oh, I see this matchup as being the battle of the best cheaters in all of world
35:32championship wrestling. I mean, really, let's be honest with each other. Dick Murdoch against Michael
35:36P.S. Hayes. Now, which one can psych each other out? Jimmy Jam Garvin against Dick Slater. Which
35:41guy can cheat behind the referee's back better than the other one? This is gonna be, for me,
35:45a dream match. Let me ask you one question. Will Big Daddy Dink and Diamond Dallas Page,
35:50could their attendance at ringside make the difference? Oh, they most certainly could make
35:54a difference. I mean, Big Daddy Dink, Diamond Dallas Page, what kind of game plan can they go
35:59in against the greatest cheaters in all of world championship wrestling, the Hardliners? We'll
36:03have that big matchup tonight. We'll talk more about tonight's big event, but first, this time
36:07out. Welcome back, everyone, this morning to the Power Hour. We're gonna take a look at a piece of
36:23videotape involving Big Mr. Hughes. Now, when this match was taped, Mr. Hughes was a full-fledged
36:29employee of the York Foundation. We all know that he has had a change of employment, but in any event,
36:35in any circumstance, he is an awesome athlete. You want to see why Lex Luger is going to remain the
36:39heavyweight champion of the world? Check out who's standing behind him each and every time he comes
36:44out to the ring, Mr. Hughes. Let's go to the ring. The following contest, it is set for one fall.
36:53Introducing first, accompanied by the executive director of the York Foundation,
36:58Alexandra York, along with the computerized man of the 1990s, Terrence Taylor, and the newest member
37:06of the York Foundation, Richard Morton. Ladies and gentlemen, at 375 pounds, he is head of security
37:15for the foundation, Mr. Hughes. His opponent from Rock City, USA, 233 pounds, Scott Allen.
37:28Well, as we mentioned, ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Hughes, now the bodyguard of the WCW world
37:33heavyweight champion, Lex Luger. This match taped a few weeks ago, but again, the reason that we
37:41wanted to bring it to you this morning was to show you the tremendous athletic ability
37:46of Mr. Hughes. Now, the questions are still unanswered as to Mr. Hughes' wrestling schedule.
37:55In other words, we don't know how much activity Lex Luger and Harley Race, Luger's new advisor,
38:02will allow Mr. Hughes to participate in. But if he's given the opportunity, he's going to be
38:10in my opinion, one of the most dominating athletes in WCW.
38:14Well, at the time that this match took place, a lot of us thought that Mr. Hughes was wrestling
38:19to break into the top ten. Tremendous clothesline by the 375 pounder. And at the time, we thought,
38:25okay, Ms. Alexandra York might have the next heavyweight champion of the world on her hands.
38:29But now we realize that his contract was up for sale. Now we realize he was up on the auction
38:34block and Lex Luger paying a tremendous sum of money to Ms. York, to the York Foundation,
38:39for the services of Mr. Hughes. What we've learned now is that is why he was wrestling,
38:44so that somebody could purchase the contract of this awesome commodity.
38:49We know that Barry Windham has signed a rematch to take on Lex Luger.
38:55Obviously, Ron Simmons will meet Lex Luger in the Omni on August 25th. Tremendous power slam
39:02by Mr. Hughes. But I had a real good conversation last evening with the Stinger that I'll relay to
39:09fans on the wrestling hotline here today about his thoughts regarding Lex Luger and his thoughts
39:16regarding the WCW World's Heavyweight Championship. I think you'll be
39:20most intrigued to hear what he had to say. And we'll hear it on the wrestling hotline for you.
39:28It's on right now, as a matter of fact. It'll be on all day today and tonight.
39:39Tremendous drop kick by Mr. Hughes. 375. He's a real tremendous competitor.
39:46Unbelievably agile. I mean, here's a guy 25 pounds short of the 400 pound mark.
39:52He's throwing drop kicks. Even Terrence Taylor and Richard Morton have to feel sorry for Scotty Allen.
40:00Hope you fans will join me tomorrow night on AM 750 WSB
40:06for Wrestling with Jim Ross. We'll be talking to you live for one hour.
40:12We'll be enjoying your participation in the broadcast tomorrow night,
40:16nine o'clock eastern time, for one hour on AM 750 WSB. As Mr. Hughes stomps away again.
40:23Well, one thing about it was the magnificent mind, the experience that Harley Race brings to the
40:31table. With Mr. Hughes there as a bodyguard. Lex Luger certainly has himself surrounded by
40:39very competent people, both mentally and physically. And Mr. Hughes now takes his time.
40:49Obviously, we see here why he's wrestled this match. Now we see that he was up on the auction
40:55block. Now we see that his services were for sale. As he makes an example of Scotty Allen,
41:00one that's so impressive that he was hired by the heavyweight champion of the world.
41:05I don't think his service is on the auction block at all.
41:08I think the guy, Luger, knew what he wanted. He came right for Mr. York and made a deal.
41:14There's Robert Gibson, who still has not settled his situation with his former partner, Richard Morton.
41:22And Gibson now fighting with both Morton and Taylor until Mr. Hughes gets his big mitts on it.
41:39There's Dustin Rhodes.
41:43And a double drop kick. It took both men to get Mr. Hughes down.
41:47But even Dustin Rhodes' rights and lefts are ineffective.
41:57The York Foundation doing a number on Dustin Rhodes.
42:02Robert Gibson getting a chair out here.
42:10Dustin Rhodes beaten up by the York Foundation, as was Robert Gibson.
42:16Richard Morton ready to take on his former partner right now.
42:31Well, Morton did the smart thing and so did Taylor by leaving because cooler heads prevail.
42:39Discretion is the better part of valor. As you see right here, Mr. Hughes throwing Scotty Allen
42:44into the rope. Unbelievable drop kick right in the mush by a 375-pound man into the ropes.
42:51Comes off a side slam. One, two, three by Lex Luger's bodyguard.
43:01Fans, in addition to the first round of the World Tag Team Title Tournament involving the
43:05Hardliners and the Freebirds, tonight here on TBS, a very special WCW Control Center with Gordon Soley
43:10as he will address how WCW officials plan to crown a new U.S. champion. And the reason we're
43:15going to have to crown a new U.S. heavyweight champion is because Lex Luger had to abdicate
43:19the throne. And guess who's going to talk to the total package tonight? Me. Gosh, I would have
43:25never guessed that. Fans, dynamic two-hour broadcast tonight for Paulie Dangerously.
43:29I'm Jim Ross. We'll see you tonight on TBS.
