00:00The road crash that killed nine FRU officers in Teluk Intan on Tuesday drew comparison to
00:07a similar tragedy more than three decades ago. On February 28, 1990, 11 FRU members were killed
00:15in an accident involving 12 vehicles at Kilometre 31 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway. The FRU
00:23officers from Troop 4B were en route from the police training centre in Kuala Lumpur to Kuala
00:29Terengganu for an operational readiness drill. Investigators later found that an express bus
00:35descending a hill had gone out of control after its brakes failed. The bus struck two cars before
00:42colliding head-on with the FRU truck, which was leading a convoy of five vehicles. The force of
00:49the impact drove the FRU truck beneath the bus, which was then hit by a fuel tanker attempting to
00:56avoid the crash. Five officers died at the scene, while six others succumbed to their injuries
01:02at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
