The Market Online brings you the latest news as the Canadian Markets Open.
Transcript
00:00Happy Monday, here's the market open update. Canadian equity futures surged on Monday as
00:07Mark Carney is sworn in and US-China agreed to temporarily slash reciprocal tariffs,
00:12easing investors' sentiment. The TSX futures surged up 1.34% as of 6am ET. The venture also
00:18glows green and futures at the Dow in the Nasdaq both increased by over 2%. Peaking at some
00:23headlines, the US farm economy is beginning to feel the strain from Trump-era tariffs.
00:28Crop trading is disrupted, tractor purchases are on hold and chemical imports are facing delays.
00:34And US and Chinese officials said Monday they had reached a deal to roll back most of their recent
00:38tariffs and call a 90-day truce in their trade war. Looking at currency futures where the loonie is
00:44steady at 71 cents US, on the up against the euro and Bitcoin leaves behind 1,000 points.
00:49And finishing with commodity futures where copper grabs a 1% boost, gold takes an over 2.5% hit,
00:55WTI springs up $60 to $63 US a barrel and natural gas is on the positive.
01:01That's your market open. I'm Lindsay Melchuk. Have a great day.
