00:00Past President Abdul Hadi Awang has played down Barsan Nationals' victory in the Ayakuning by-election last weekend.

00:10He said BN candidate Yusri Bakir's victory in the by-election stemmed from the UMNO-DAP alliance,

00:16commonly referred to as UMDAB, which he claimed sought to purify DAP.

00:21The Marang MP said this included efforts to cleanse DAP and Pakatan Harapan of blame in controversies

00:28such as illegal pig farming in predominantly Muslim Malay areas.

00:32Hadi said many Malay Muslim voters in Ayakuning rejected the idea of a progressive and liberal Islam

00:39and UMDAB's efforts to cleanse DAP's image as these were against Islamic principles.

00:45He said UMDAB had led some of UMNO's supporters to embrace the secular principle of the

00:50and justifies the means and other liberal ideologies.

00:53Yusri won the by-election with a 5,006-vote majority,

00:58defeating Perikatan National candidate Abdul Mohamin Malik

01:02and Party Socialist Malaysia's Kez Bawani.
