00:00I feel like I'm gonna die.
00:06Frozen pieces are snacks.
00:11That's about a day's worth of food around here.
00:13I feel like my life has ended.
00:15Go to bed at night, I'm like, I want to wake up tomorrow.
00:17I just feel like my body's just disgusting.
00:19I've played football my whole life.
00:22I'm supposed to be everybody's hero around here.
00:26And I feel like nothing but a loser.
00:28Here I am, 44, I've never had sex, I'm still a virgin.
00:31My fear is that Ronnie's gonna die.
00:34Yeah, I want two number ones.
00:40When you're sitting there crying because you can't stop eating,
00:43it's like rock bottom.
00:45I just eat till I'll throw up.
00:47Several times Kara's had to call 911 because I couldn't breathe.
00:53If I don't get my weight under control, I mean,
00:55my lifespan will be shortened.
00:57My life's over.
00:58I'm tired of living like this.
01:00I ate.
01:01I hurt.
01:06This is no vacation.
01:07You're here to push yourself.
01:08Come on, don't quit!
01:09Don't quit!
01:10You know how to lose weight.
01:11But you don't know about keeping it off.
01:14It's easy for people to give up and say, man, it's the way I am.
01:19I can't.
01:20Not yet.
01:21I'm not ready yet.
01:22There's no not yet.
01:23It's now.
01:24Come on.
01:26I know there's something wrong.
01:28There's something broke in me that needs fixed.
01:30I don't know how to fix it.
01:31I'll make my family proud of me and I'll be the hero that all my friends have always thought I was.
01:38Cheeseburgers are my weakness.
01:50My name is Ronnie and I'm 44 years old.
01:53Okay, so now plate and cheese.
01:55Ronnie and I have been together for three years now.
01:57Got a beautiful home, beautiful family.
01:59Hey, will you get your dad a plate?
02:00Hey, will you get your dad a plate, Hunter?
02:01Ronnie and I together have six kids total.
02:04He has three, I have three.
02:05It's the most rewarding relationship I've ever been in.
02:08And I'm just, I'm very lucky.
02:10And I absolutely adore him.
02:11I look at him and I could just cry I love him so much.
02:13He's really just the strongest person I know.
02:16Let's go for it again.
02:20At this weight, I just, I can't do nothing.
02:23In high school, I was always the popular, always went out with the, you know, the cheerleaders, you know.
02:29And I played football my whole life.
02:31I was All-American in college and everything.
02:33And I've won many championships, many state championships.
02:36And just three years ago, I was voted North Georgia Youth Football Coach of the Year.
02:40And I can't do it anymore.
02:42And everybody around here knows me as Coach Ronnie.
02:47I'm supposed to be everybody's hero around here.
02:50And I feel like nothing but a loser.
02:54I'm not even a hero to my kids anymore.
02:57He has got to find out why he got fat and fix it.
03:02My fiancee, Kara, is a, she's a group fitness manager at the gym that I work out at.
03:07I can't get him to go to the gym anymore.
03:09I mean, he'll literally say, when I lose weight, I'll go to the gym.
03:12And I'm like, you need to go to the gym to lose the weight.
03:16Her dream has always been a beach wedding.
03:19I can't marry her like this.
03:20I get angry.
03:21The kids and I are, we're tied to what he can't do versus what all of us can do.
03:27Whoa!
03:28Wait, all right.
03:29Let me finish this out!
03:33He's my best friend, my soulmate, my everything.
03:35But I don't want to be stuck in a house taking care of a fat man.
03:42This is it.
03:43If this doesn't work, then it will probably be over.
03:48My name's Debbie, I'm 44 years old, and I live in Wilmington, North Carolina.
03:59I'm killing myself slowly.
04:01And sometimes when I go to bed at night, I'm like, I wonder if I'm going to wake up tomorrow.
04:06Fourth grade, I think that's when I started packing on the pounds.
04:10When high school came, I took gym class in the summertime instead of in school,
04:15because I was just so embarrassed.
04:17These are really good.
04:18With relationships, you know, I shy away of any possibility.
04:22I've never had sex.
04:23I'm still a virgin.
04:24And I just feel like my body's just disgusting.
04:27This is the weight I need to say goodbye to.
04:32Deb, I mean, I can't wait until we can actually do all the stuff we're doing now.
04:35I know.
04:36I'm at the beach now.
04:37Go skiing, go water skiing, doing biking, all that stuff.
04:39I know.
04:40I'm tired of being involved around food.
04:42She's at the bottom.
04:43She has nowhere else to go.
04:45And she knows it.
04:46Oh!
04:47Who's got it?
04:48You know, it's a thin world out there, a thin girl's world.
04:51And I'm sitting on the sidelines, and I'm just trying to be a part of everything.
04:56Come on, Debbie!
04:57One of the things that keeps us bonded was golf.
05:00And Debbie had to stop playing golf three or four years ago because of her weight.
05:06She just simply couldn't walk, and she couldn't swing her golf club.
05:09Anybody want to try the trip?
05:10Why do I let little stupid things emotionally affect me that I have to run to food to eat?
05:16Why can't I control it somehow?
05:18She has to finally decide that she wants to change her lifestyle.
05:22It's now or never.
05:23If I don't get my weight under control, I mean, my lifespan will be shortened.
05:27I need to get the weight off, stand on my own two feet, feel worthy enough to have somebody love me.
05:32I mean, just control my life again.
05:34Welcome.
05:51Thanks.
05:52I'm here to check in.
05:53I'm Beverly.
05:54Nice to meet you, Beverly.
05:55Nice to meet you.
05:56Welcome.
06:01Hi.
06:02Hello.
06:03Hi.
06:04Hi.
06:05Hi.
06:06Hi.
06:07Hi.
06:08Hi.
06:09Hi.
06:33Hi.
06:34Hi.
06:35Hi.
06:36Hi.
06:37Hi, Debbie.
06:38I'm gonna take your weight today, okay?
06:39Okay.
06:40My first weigh-in, it's a little nerve-wracking because I can't remember the last time I weighed
06:42myself, so I have no clue what I'm going into.
06:46Hi, Debbie.
06:47I'm going to take your weight today, OK?
06:49My first weigh-in, it's a little nerve-wracking
06:52because I can't remember the last time I weighed myself.
06:55So I have no clue what I'm going into.
06:58Go ahead and step on the scale.
07:08401.4.
07:10I was like, ooh.
07:12It's just too big of a number to even comprehend.
07:16That I let myself get to be that weight.
07:20OK, you ready?
07:43Do you have a number in your mind?
07:44I mean, are you thinking of?
07:45I want to push myself as much as I can.
07:46All right.
07:47I see what's going to happen to me if I
07:49don't get this weight off.
07:50And I always wondered what it would take.
07:52Was it going to be getting a disease, you know, diabetic?
07:54If something happens, and you go to the hospital,
07:56and they're not equipped for somebody as big as me,
08:00and you get an infection or something, it's scary.
08:06Hello.
08:07Hey, Ronnie.
08:08Last time I weighed, I was probably 320 or something
08:11like that.
08:12So I'm really nervous to see what the scale says.
08:15Take a step up.
08:23437.6.
08:24Oh.
08:25What do you think?
08:26It was really embarrassing to me.
08:29That's the most I've ever weighed in my life.
08:32Let's turn your palm open.
08:34Deep breath.
08:35You thought a little bit about your goals for this next six
08:53months?
08:54My goal is 200.
08:55What if I say to you, there's no way you're
08:56going to lose 200 pounds in the next six months?
08:58I'll just show you.
08:59Does that piss you off?
09:00I'm real competitive.
09:01I want to lose as much as I can.
09:03I'm on a mission.
09:05I want to be healthy.
09:06I want to live a healthy life.
09:14Stepping with your heel.
09:15Today, I'm training Ronnie and Debbie for the first time.
09:18I need to be sure that I'm pushing them more than what
09:21they could push themselves.
09:22Get that butt under on the squat.
09:23Down.
09:24Exercise, it's new.
09:26I hate pushing myself too hard.
09:28Six, get those elbows in.
09:29Seven, seven.
09:30Failure is not an option for me here.
09:32There's a whole lot of people, including myself,
09:34that are counting on me for this.
09:36I'm not here just playing around.
09:38I'm on a mission.
09:39These are plank climbers here.
09:40OK, you're here.
09:41Pressing up the high plank.
09:43Back down the low.
09:43One.
09:45Two.
09:46I'm thinking, how am I going to do that?
09:51Yes.
09:52Two.
09:54Four is tight.
09:55Three.
09:55Just five, just five.
09:57Four.
09:58Come on.
09:59Five, good.
10:00Oh.
10:02I'm very impressed with the way that Ronnie is pushing himself.
10:05But he is a lot heavier than what he used to be when he
10:08played football.
10:09And I want him to kind of view that weight as a limitation.
10:12That way he does not injure himself.
10:14On your elbows.
10:15On your elbows.
10:15OK.
10:17She might have won.
10:18All right, I can't.
10:19Not yet.
10:20You did it.
10:20No, I'm not ready yet.
10:22My first impression of Debbie is that she's scared of failure.
10:25She's not willing to push herself because she thinks
10:27if she pushes herself, she's going to fail.
10:29Come on, you can do this.
10:30Not yet.
10:31Yes, you can.
10:32I want to get down on my knees because it's
10:34hard to get back up.
10:35I just can't support myself to get up.
10:37Deb, I would not put you in any situation
10:39where you're going to hurt yourself.
10:40I can't.
10:41No, not yet.
10:41No, not yet.
10:42It's now.
10:43Come on.
10:44Now.
10:45OK, let's pump it up to 2.4.
10:56Go, go, go, go.
11:00I know it's their first week here, but I think this is really
11:03going to put their abilities to the test.
11:05I'm going to get in here.
11:06But I want to take my time and I want to be comfortable.
11:10We're pushing it.
11:12Come on, let's go.
11:13What do you think you're here for?
11:15Huh?
11:15You think you're on vacation?
11:17This is no vacation.
11:18You're here to push yourself.
11:19Debbie does need to push it.
11:21She doesn't get too engaged in really intensive exercise.
11:26So how long are you staying on this thing?
11:28I'm getting off.
11:29When?
11:30When you leave.
11:35I don't know if she thinks that she can't do it,
11:37but she's got to try.
11:39This is her one place where she can come and try and see how
11:43far she can push herself.
11:45And one of the things you teach is, after every bite,
11:48just go ahead and set it down.
11:50Oh.
11:51Yeah.
11:52Can I have some more water please?
11:54One of the things we teach is after every bite, just go ahead and set it down.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Can I have some more water, please?
12:08So is it just water, or what else do you have to drink?
12:15Hello, look at this.
12:21And the first meal gets down there, and I'm looking at, wait a minute, this can't be it.
12:27How in the world am I surviving on that?
12:30I ordered the cheeseburger.
12:33I want the big flour tortilla.
12:35I'll make me a fajito.
12:36One tortilla.
12:37I've never eaten one tortilla in my life.
12:40Are you kidding me?
12:51I love beach boot camp.
12:53This is more like a football practice.
12:55Listen, guys, we're going to do some dynamic warm-up.
12:58And that's what I'm used to.
12:59It's challenging.
13:00Two, three.
13:01Drive his knees up.
13:0210, 11.
13:04Good job.
13:0520, and 1.
13:06Come on!
13:07Three, two.
13:08Good job.
13:09My knee is, my knee's jacked up.
13:28I just got to keep pushing.
13:29I can't stop.
13:38I can't bend my knee like this while I was trying to tell you.
13:41I can't squat down.
13:4225.
13:43He has his football mentality of no pain, no gain, when in reality there really is no gain,
13:50because it's going to create long-term problems with his body.
13:55Put it on there.
13:56I've always pushed through injuries, and it's just something I've got to do.
14:00He's continuing to try to be the hero that he is in his hometown.
14:03All right?
14:04Rest.
14:05And he's a stopper.
14:06He's going to hurt himself seriously.
14:10The pain is just about unbearable, but I can't quit.
14:16Failure is not an option.
14:19My goal is to lose 200 pounds, and I'm going to do it if it kills me.
14:32Ronnie and Debbie have survived the first week, and now it's time to see what the scale says.
14:36Hi, Debbie.
14:37Hi, Jessica.
14:38Good to see you again.
14:39Ready for your weigh-in today?
14:40Absolutely.
14:41Okay, good.
14:42388.2.
14:43So let's figure for your first week, that's 13.2.
14:57Okay, that seems unreal.
14:58It seems unreal?
14:59Yeah.
15:00Okay.
15:01Well, it might start to get a little harder.
15:02Yeah.
15:03But we're going to enjoy this first week and the success that you've had.
15:05Please.
15:08Hi.
15:09Hey, Ronnie.
15:10Good to see you.
15:11Great to see you.
15:12You ready for your weigh-in today?
15:13Yeah, I guess.
15:22Wow.
15:23414.
15:24And let's just do the math real quick.
15:2623.6.
15:27Nice.
15:28That's awesome.
15:29Great job.
15:30How do you feel about that?
15:31That's good.
15:33At first, I was kind of like shocked when I saw that number on there.
15:36Feel stronger?
15:37Oh, gosh, yeah.
15:38I'm ready to go.
15:39All right.
15:40Thanks.
15:41We'll see you out there.
15:42I didn't think I could lose that much weight right off the bat.
15:44I've worked as hard as I could, and when you see that number, it was like, you know
15:50what?
15:51I feel like I'm going to live.
15:52I didn't feel that way before.
15:53I didn't want to live like that anymore.
15:55Hey, Debbie.
15:56How are you?
15:57Hey, good.
15:58Even though Debbie had really good weight loss this first week, she doesn't seem to
16:24be pushing herself as hard as she could be.
16:26So we really need to talk about what's holding her back.
16:29Tell me a little bit about what it was like for you growing up.
16:33Um, I think it was like junior high that I started packing on the pounds.
16:39Eating a lot of bad choices as far as food and stuff.
16:43I wasn't thinking about my health.
16:45Then when we got to like high school, the boys thing started coming into play, you know?
16:51Okay.
16:52And I felt like, you know, I don't look like my friends.
16:55Were your friends dating in high school?
16:58Yeah.
16:59Yeah.
17:00Okay.
17:01Were you at all?
17:02Um, no.
17:03Because of my body image.
17:04Was there a boy who rejected you?
17:06Um, I didn't want to open any doors to allow that to happen.
17:10Instead of wanting a boyfriend or this or that, there's no rejection in the food.
17:14When friends would go home with their boyfriend after the bars and stuff, you know, my boyfriend
17:17was like Ronald McDonald at Burger King.
17:19You know what I mean?
17:20That was just the hat.
17:21That's the cycle.
17:30So today we're going to work on the ellipticals.
17:33Debbie's kind of used to doing her own thing.
17:35And then she's got that in her mind that that's, that works.
17:38She's never been athletic, never been a team kind of player.
17:41And my way I do it is the way the coaches put it to me.
17:44Let's go.
17:45You can do it.
17:46There you go.
17:47Good job.
17:48And he's working with a bad knee.
17:49My knee hurts so bad, you know, I can hardly sleep.
17:51But I've always pushed through injuries.
17:53And it's just something I've got to do.
17:55Okay.
17:56100 strides a minute.
17:57Let's go.
17:58Let's go.
17:59It's all over the world.
18:0070.
18:01Okay.
18:02Start smoothing it out.
18:03He wants to go faster.
18:05I'm warming up.
18:06Excuses.
18:07That's how we got that way.
18:09Let's go.
18:10Right now we need to go 100.
18:11I'm giving you what I can give you.
18:12So is that your motto?
18:13It is now.
18:14Yeah?
18:15I'm doing what I can do.
18:25He wants to go faster.
18:27I'm warming up.
18:28Debbie could do a lot better.
18:30I don't think she's putting forth 110% effort like she could.
18:33Excuses.
18:34That's how we got that way.
18:36I'm giving you what I can give you.
18:38So is that your motto?
18:39It is now.
18:40Yeah?
18:41I can do what I can do.
18:43I think we have different goals on how we want to lose it and what we want out of the experience.
18:48I don't want to hold him back.
18:49And at the same time, I don't want to feel like he has to push me to his level.
18:53The way you work out may not be the way I work out, Ronnie.
18:56Look.
18:57Like, I like to go to bed and sit down and talk.
18:59You don't like doing that part.
19:00You don't like doing that part.
19:01But I don't rag you on that.
19:03I'm not ragging you.
19:04I'm looking at the people out there who are sitting there on their couches about to die.
19:09Their family sitting there watching them die.
19:11And it pisses me off.
19:12Work it out.
19:13Do what you need to do to get that out of your head.
19:16I'm trying to get you with that mentality.
19:19I'm doing what I can do.
19:21Do you feel like you're giving it 100%?
19:23Yes, I feel it.
19:24Yes.
19:25Debbie and Ronnie are two opposite people.
19:28Okay, let's take it up to 110.
19:30110 strides a minute.
19:32Ronnie needs to concentrate on himself instead of worrying about Debbie.
19:35Come on.
19:36Come on.
19:37And Debbie has a lot more laxed attitude.
19:39But I think she's getting motivated.
19:42Debbie, excellent.
19:43Excellent.
19:44You are going faster than I've ever seen you go.
19:46I'm proud of you.
19:47I'll get there.
19:48I'll get there.
19:52One.
19:53Two.
19:54One.
19:59Ronnie and Debbie are halfway through their six-month weight loss journey.
20:03While Ronnie's knee is getting better, the stress of being away from his home is getting to him.
20:07Really starting to feel the pressure of being here, of being away from my family.
20:13I'm missing all my kids and Kara.
20:16Unlike Debbie, Ronnie's not attending the therapy sessions to address his emotional issues.
20:21Hello.
20:22Ronnie.
20:23It's good to see you this morning.
20:31Today, 340.4.
20:3497.2.
20:35Dang.
20:36Almost topped the 100-pound mark.
20:39I'm right there at it, and I feel so good.
20:42Yeah, my goal is 100 pounds by the time Kara gets here, one day.
20:46I'm really homesick.
20:47I've been waiting three months.
20:49She's finally going to be here, and I'm so excited.
20:51What's happening?
20:54I'm nervous.
20:55Weighing days can be a little nerve-wracking.
20:59Let's see where we are today.
21:04345.4.
21:05Okay.
21:06I'm only down a couple ounces.
21:08I'm a little disappointed, but for what I'm eating and the exercises I'm doing, I know I'm building muscle.
21:16I can feel I'm getting stronger.
21:17I'm extremely excited to see Ronnie.
21:29I can barely breathe.
21:30I can't eat.
21:31I haven't slept.
21:32Seeing him, this is the minute I've been waiting for.
21:44Hey, honey.
21:45I can't eat.
21:46I can't eat.
21:47I can't eat.
21:48I can't eat.
21:49I can't eat.
21:50I can't eat.
21:51I can't eat.
21:52I can't eat.
21:53I can't eat.
21:54I can't eat.
21:55I can't eat.
21:56You don't look like the same person.
21:57He just looks so much better than I even expected.
22:01I was absolutely shocked.
22:02You look beautiful.
22:03How much have you lost?
22:04100 pounds.
22:05Really?
22:06It looks like more than that.
22:07When I saw her face and the way she squeezed me, I knew it validated everything that I've
22:14done so far.
22:15Okay.
22:16It's time to come home now.
22:17You're skinny.
22:18We're going to talk a little about an environment that may have been uncomfortable when you're
22:29back at home, and that is meeting new people and striking up conversations.
22:34Debbie's 44 years old, and she's never had a romantic relationship with a man.
22:38One of the reasons Debbie wants to lose weight is so that she can have a relationship with
22:42someone in the future.
22:43So I'm going to take her to the golf course so that we can work on her social skills.
22:46Maybe the best way that we could do this is I'll just be hitting some golf balls, and
22:51you're going to come up and introduce yourself and do whatever you would plan on doing.
22:55Okay, absolutely.
22:56Does that sound good?
22:57Yep.
22:58Hey, Adam.
22:59Um...
23:00I'm noticing you're, um...
23:01Let's back up a second.
23:02Um, let's imagine that you don't know my name.
23:03Okay?
23:04Okay.
23:05You don't know I'm Adam.
23:06How would you first approach me?
23:07You know what I mean?
23:08What would you say?
23:09Would you say...
23:10That was a good swing.
23:11Okay, okay.
23:12That's cool.
23:13Try it again.
23:14Okay.
23:15Excuse me.
23:16That was a good swing.
23:17Okay.
23:18That was a good swing.
23:19Okay, okay.
23:20That's cool.
23:21Try it again.
23:22Okay.
23:23Excuse me.
23:24That was a good swing.
23:27Thanks.
23:28I'm having a little trouble here.
23:29You think you might be able to give me some pointers?
23:30Yeah, no problem.
23:31I'm Adam.
23:32Hi, I'm Debbie.
23:33Nice to meet you.
23:34Nice to meet you, too.
23:35So, um...
23:36You said you haven't been playing very long?
23:37No.
23:38Okay.
23:39Um...
23:40Um...
23:41So...
23:42All right.
23:43You just met me, right?
23:44Yes.
23:45Okay.
23:46Now, how do you take it from there?
23:47Right?
23:48I'm trying to give you pointers, but how do we develop more of a friendship?
23:53What do you think?
23:54Well, I mean, when you're golfing, you concentrate on golf and you don't want to talk a lot.
24:08So...
24:09Yeah?
24:10I mean, some guy's gonna be like, leave me alone.
24:12Okay.
24:13That's possible.
24:14Debbie's really trying to make things work, but she just could not figure out what to say.
24:18Well, what about relationships when you get back home?
24:20I mean, is that gonna be a priority?
24:22Is that something you're thinking about when you get back?
24:24Is that...?
24:25I'm open to it, yeah, because I haven't met the right guy yet.
24:28And so, you know, if I had it my weight, then I'd be with him now.
24:31Well, how can we find that person?
24:34Because that's gonna be important, don't you think?
24:36Oh, yeah.
24:37Oh, I'm hoping he'll find me.
24:39Yeah.
24:40Well, just like you've practiced your physical exercise and eating habits and that kind of stuff while you're here,
24:47you also gotta practice your social habits, you know?
24:49Right.
24:50Clearly, Debbie, she's got a long way to go, but she's gaining confidence that's gonna help her get there.
24:54Being more secure with my body and the more comfortable with my body, just in my own skin, anything's possible.
25:03One, get your heels on.
25:06Step down or jump down?
25:07Three, jump down.
25:08I took Kara to the gym because I wanted to show her, you know, hey, look, my man's getting strong.
25:13One, seven, stick that butt out, butt out.
25:17Ronnie's progress he's made here is just huge.
25:22Before I got here, I worked out with Kara and I felt like I was gonna die.
25:26I couldn't do anything.
25:33Today, he was so strong and really pushed himself, like, beyond where I thought he could go.
25:38He's so strong.
25:42When Ronnie finally saw Kara's reaction to him, she sees the changes, people around me see the changes.
25:48It's hard when you're in it every day.
25:50Good work, guys.
25:51It really sparked that motivation for him.
25:57Kara, my name's Beverly, and I've been Ronnie's life coach while he's been here.
26:02And so my job is to try and find out why he's put on this much weight.
26:09Ronnie, you're very headstrong.
26:10Oh, yeah.
26:11And being an ex-athlete, you've learned how to drop weight really quickly, but you've never dealt with any of the emotional and mental issues behind it.
26:22I don't think I have an issue.
26:24I'm here to lose weight, and that's what I'm doing.
26:27You're in complete denial.
26:28I'm hoping Kara will have more influence on Ronnie in getting him to attend some of the therapy sessions he's been resistant to take.
26:36The angle his mind's going at it is the same angle he went at it before.
26:40My focus is the eating and the working out. That's it.
26:42Well, obviously, that don't work because you've done it that way.
26:45You know how to lose weight, but you don't know about keeping it off.
26:50And that's what these sessions with me or Beth every week is going to help you with.
26:55I really don't think I'm an emotional eater.
26:57They can help you figure it out.
26:59That's as big a part of losing the weight as it is what you're eating.
27:03I mean, it is bigger, probably.
27:05It is bigger.
27:06I've always been the big, tough, strong person, and it makes me feel like I'm weak if I have to go to somebody else and tell them my issues.
27:15I don't want to be the person trying to get in your head and trying to figure out what triggers things.
27:20I mean, you're here.
27:21Talk to somebody.
27:22He feels he doesn't need them.
27:23I don't.
27:24Well, you go or she's going to call me.
27:27Like, that's a slap in my face.
27:45The meeting with Beverly yesterday, it seemed like they ambushed me, but they're right.
27:53I mean, I should be going talking with people and trying to get in-depth, because it's going to be hard to keep the weight off.
28:00A couple months at that point.
28:04For a lifetime.
28:06Well, tell me a little bit about what it was like having Kara here for a couple days.
28:32Having her here just reassured our commitment for each other and motivated me more.
28:40You said in the past you take care of your family.
28:42What were the things that you were doing to take care of everybody?
28:45My mom had cancer for 10 years, and I mean, this lady was, I'm sorry, she was our everything.
28:56My mom was one of these caring people, the caretaking kind of people.
29:00And then when she got sick, I did that for her.
29:04I sold everything, house, everything, and moved in with her.
29:07I did all the cooking, and I just kept on putting the weight on.
29:10And then they gave her like three months to live.
29:13And she just fought it.
29:16And she finally passed away.
29:18And Kara and her mom had cancer too.
29:21And I ended up taking care of the kids while she was taking care of her mom.
29:26Of her mom.
29:27Wow.
29:28So you've done a lot of caregiving in the past.
29:30It changed my life.
29:31It turned me into 450 pounds.
29:34Sometimes people are using the food to cope with what's going on in their life.
29:38Right?
29:39Yeah.
29:40Sounds like you haven't had a lot of time to take care of Ronnie in the midst of all this.
29:46No.
29:47Right?
29:48Yeah.
29:49And what I'm hearing is that that's what Kara wants for you now.
29:52That's exactly what she wants.
29:54Right?
29:55Yeah, she wants you to take care of you.
29:58Ronnie surprised me.
29:59He was open.
30:00He was willing to talk a little bit about some painful experiences in his life.
30:06He was able to get in touch with his feelings.
30:08And to me, that was a big step for him.
30:11Beverly and Kara said I would get something out of that.
30:14And they were right.
30:15Learning how to let my guard down is just as important as losing his weight.
30:24When you're losing weight, you get a bigger return by cutting back on cowards.
30:28It's actually easier to cut back 500 cowards than it is to exercise those 500 cowards off.
30:38Good.
30:39Come on.
30:40Go.
30:41Go.
30:42Go.
30:43Go.
30:44Go.
30:45Harder.
30:46Take the wall down.
30:47Come on.
30:48Debbie has changed.
30:49There's been a definite change in her.
30:50Don't stop.
30:51We got 10 seconds.
30:52Come on.
30:53Okay.
30:54Go.
30:55Go.
30:56When she arrived here, Debbie's attitude was so bad that she didn't like anything about
31:11anyone, including herself.
31:13Come on.
31:14Don't quit.
31:15But now she's had this spiritual awakening.
31:17She's so much more positive, and that is what's going to change her in the long run.
31:22Three, two, one.
31:24Excellent.
31:28Yeah?
31:29Yeah.
31:30Okay.
31:31Six months is a long time, half a year, and I'm going to my final weigh-in, and I feel
31:47excited.
31:48Hey, Debbie.
31:49Hi.
31:50You ready for this?
31:51Yes, I am.
31:52Last weigh-in.
31:53I know.
31:54It's bittersweet.
31:59Your starting weight is 401.4.
32:10269.8.
32:11That puts you at 130.6, and that's over 30% of your total body weight.
32:19That's great.
32:20I know.
32:21I'm excited.
32:22They told me six months ago I'd be losing 130.6 pounds.
32:26I'm like, no, you're crazy.
32:27No way.
32:28There's no way I can do that.
32:30I'm so happy with my results.
32:32You know, I've left 131 pounds of baggage here, and that's a lot of baggage to leave,
32:38and it feels really good.
32:44I'm going to my final weigh-in, and I feel it's been a real learning experience for me,
32:49and I feel great.
32:50Hey.
32:51Last one.
32:52Yep.
32:53Let's do it.
32:57Your starting weight is 437.6.
33:10264.8.
33:11Let's see your total.
33:12172.8.
33:13You know that's about 40% of your body weight.
33:17That's great.
33:18That's amazing.
33:19I'm walking out of here almost 180 pounds down, and I feel like a champ.
33:23I feel like I'm ready to take on the world.
33:26180 pounds.
33:27My 16-year-old son weighs 135 pounds, so I've lost more than that.
33:33My confidence level is so high, and I'm ready to get home and be a dad and a husband to Kara,
33:39and take care of my family the way I should.
33:41I'm going to run a minute for every pound that I've lost.
33:48The thing I wanted to do at the end is I wanted to run a minute for every pound I lost, so 180 pounds is three hours.
34:05Ronnie's telling me that he's planning to do this 180-minute run, and I'm thinking he's got to be out of his mind.
34:11Ronnie, where you at now?
34:14Two and a half miles, 31 minutes.
34:1731 pounds, son.
34:18First week?
34:19One week down.
34:20How crazy is that?
34:22When Ronnie first got here, he could barely move, and now he's planning to run for 180 minutes.
34:27If he's able to complete it, it will be simply astounding.
34:31We are an hour into this, and I feel great.
34:36Good.
34:37You're the man.
34:40I'm there to support him 100% on this.
34:44Just to cheer him on, and I'm going to see him through it to the end.
34:47100 pounds down right there.
34:51I didn't celebrate it the first time I hit the 100 pounds.
34:54This time I did.
34:56100 pounds down.
34:5880 more to go, and it's worth it.
35:0160 seconds up
35:16täck денег I hit.
35:17Damn it so much.
35:18Raunni inspired me so much that it made me want to jump on the treadmill and run next to him for the last bit.
35:21Awesome!
35:29There you go.
35:31Hold strong. Now, last minute. Come on, Ronnie. Push, buddy.
35:40Three, two, one. Damn.
35:44Easy, easy, easy, easy.
35:47Easy.
35:50Damn, Ronnie.
35:51Good job.
35:53Here, walk around a little bit if you can.
35:55I ran just over 15 miles.
35:57When I finished the 180 minutes, three hours, my body felt strong.
36:02And I feel a sense of pride to know that I can do that now just after this short time.
36:09Ready for a marathon now?
36:10Yeah, I'm ready.
36:12What kept you going?
36:13I had to.
36:15I promised when I came down here that I was going to do everything I could to do it.
36:23Yeah.
36:24And if it wasn't for a lot of support from y'all and my family back home, I couldn't have made it.
36:33I couldn't have done this.
36:34I wouldn't have done this myself.
36:36Really impressive. Great job.
36:37Ronnie and Debbie are leaving today.
36:48If they can do this much in six months, it would be amazing to see what those two will be able to have done in a year.
36:54I know a lot of sweat and tears went through this.
36:57Even the three of us side by side six months ago.
37:00Look at that.
37:05You know, you can call me anytime you need me.
37:07I will, Ronnie.
37:08I love you.
37:09Thank you for everything.
37:10I'm proud of you, too.
37:12I'm going home.
37:13I just can't wait to see everybody.
37:17Just, oh, it's going to be great.
37:20Thank you so much.
37:21Oh, gosh.
37:22We love you, all right?
37:23Keep it up.
37:24Keep everything going.
37:25I'll be able to play with my nephews now, you know, golf with Dad, you know, go kayaking with friends.
37:31You know, I've got my life back now, and now I can share it with them.
37:35Man, it's tough to say goodbye.
37:37It is.
37:38I'll tell you what, though.
37:39All right, pal.
37:40You can keep that 180 pounds while I'm left.
37:42I still got work to do.
37:44I'm not done yet, but leaving here with just all the confidence in the world, and I feel like that athlete again.
37:50I'm ready for anything.
37:55You guys ready to do this?
38:10We're giving you a beauty makeover.
38:12It's been six months.
38:13A whole new life.
38:14Oh, my.
38:15I cannot wait for my friends and family to see me.
38:19My life's totally changed now, and I feel very confident.
38:22We're so proud of you.
38:25Oh, I'm so proud of myself.
38:32I can't even express it.
38:33I'm just so emotional because we've been keeping in touch, like, through texting and email, but now I'm going to see how she's physically changed.
38:40I'm so proud of you.
38:42I'm so proud of you.
38:58I'm so proud of you.
38:59I'm so proud of you.
39:01You're so proud of yourself.
39:03It's just been a remarkable transformation.
39:05Amazing.
39:06I have to admit, I teared up a little bit.
39:07It was really emotional.
39:09I literally worked my ass off.
39:10What I thought of Debbie when she walked through the door is unbelievable.
39:21She now has a chance to live, to have a life she didn't think she had.
39:28Good job.
39:36Here we are at Salon Lotus.
39:46getting my mullet cut off.
39:48Can you do anything with this?
39:49Yes, absolutely.
39:50We're going to make you look fabulous.
39:51All right.
39:52They put some highlights in there,
39:53and they colored the gray out.
39:55I feel fantastic.
39:56I feel like I'm young again.
39:59Look at you.
40:00Awesome.
40:01Great.
40:02I can't wait to Kara sees it, and my kids see it,
40:04because I feel like a different person.
40:06I've changed inside and out.
40:11Kevin, is the door?
40:12Is the door?
40:13Is it him?
40:13Is it him?
40:14Is it him?
40:14Oh, my God.
40:19Oh, my God.
40:21Oh, my God.
40:23I'm in shock.
40:26It's not even the same guy anymore.
40:28He looks completely different.
40:29That is the thinnest he's ever been in his life, ever, ever.
40:32High school, college, that is the smallest he's ever been.
40:36While I was gone, y'all motivated me every day.
40:38I had to do everything I could.
40:40Don't start crying.
40:44Your mouth's careful, right?
40:46No.
40:48You see, my family won't let me get emotional.
40:50I've about lost it in there.
40:51And they brought me back down to earth.
40:54Oh, it's great being home.
40:55But it's time to party.
40:57It's been six months, and I'm ready to go meet my friends.
41:00I'm excited to show them all the work I've done.
41:02Ronnie!
41:03Ronnie!
41:04Ronnie!
41:05Ronnie!
41:06Ronnie!
41:07Ronnie!
41:08Ronnie!
41:09Ronnie!
41:10I couldn't have done it without all y'all's support.
41:25It was hard.
41:26Look, I lost 180 pounds in six months.
41:28I love you too.
41:31Look, everybody knows we've already made a vow of how much we love each other, and that
41:37we want to be married.
41:38But she told me since the first time we were together, she always wanted a beach wedding.
41:44But I was too embarrassed to do it.
41:47But I picked this little shell up here, and I want to tell you, I'm ready for that beach
41:52wedding.
41:53This is a picture of ours.
41:58It was awesome seeing him really make the difference and make the change, and my wheels
42:09are spinning in my head.
42:10I just can't believe that Ronnie lost weight, and that we're really going to get married.
42:15This is just amazing.
42:45golden days of me.
